its ridiculous how many people in the comments think that me being a content creator had *anything* to do with getting my map ranked or my mapping abilities
emk1996 pishifat didnt know about me and the other BN looks at basically anyone's maps. Attention in general doesnt push maps for rank, BNs do. All mods changed next to nothing about the map, as well, its final state is essentially its first
are you sure that being a known content creator didn't help at all? not saying your map is bad, I think it's really nice and makes sense. I could only wish to map that well, tbh.
i have seen no benefits from being a known content creator beyond people who saw my map in the ranked maps list honestly. no one has treated me special or given me mods or anything because of it before my first map getting ranked none of my maps had more than 10 favorites except for one which i had sent to some top players/streams which got it seen, and it only had 20 favorites.
i follow rrtyui's mapping style, which is to make an interesting map, not to make an easy to play one. but since i'm a nobody i just hope people who play my map like them. some of my friends do enjoy them a lot, and for me it's already better than trying to get a map ranked. it became the reason to why i map, just to have fun, not for popularity. and nobody is gonna say how well pishifat played the hard part of atomosphere? i almost screamed when he hit all of those triples and triangle streams like how the hell? (except when its a replay of someone lol)
Sam Becker yes, but itll never happen, because a bad mapper wouldnt get this lucky making such a good map. and a really really good mapper wouldnt be not known
Sam Becker Well that was his conclusion. I'm in the stage of slowly being noticed, and wow the effort it took to reach there. It is basically rng on how fast it will take, but if you have something rankable and good, you will eventually make it.
I don't have a problem with the maps that break conventions. In fact, I would like more of that because it's interesting. However, what I hate are the mappers that spit out the same shit every single map (like MANY well known mappers). Not to say that those maps aren't good, they are just boring.
Pishifat: its a masterpiece because of slider velocity, giving you a clue of what’s to come in the future, also I like how usually only circles represent the hardest jumpy part of the map but this emphasizes the easiest which makes the user know this is a great map Me: epic circle TAP DHXIJDJEBDJOWKQL
i would like to thank pishifat for making this wonderfully indepth video, rrtyui for making this fantastic map that i "passed" with nf on and can't pass again (kms), and lastly i would like to thank the god of music creation, Camellia, for making the best music and allowing all of this to happen.
Rrtyui's map actually shows technical understanding, proper difficulty creation, works with the chaotic themes of the song, and is quite a marvel to behold.
I have a lot to say, but I don't want to be all negative, so... I really like the "animated" sliders at the start of the map, those are SUPER cool. I also noticed how the infamous "cross-screen triples" weren't PERFECTLY in-line with the cardinal directions, they were slightly diagonal lines instead. Makes the map looks less boring and sterile and instead gives it some personality without actually affecting gameplay. And regardless of difficulty, I have no issues with streams, jumps, stacks, etc., even those weird star-shape circle patterns, because they are still perfectly readable thanks to the approach circles (And even the fact that they fade in one at a time). I guess that introduces a problem when playing with Hidden enabled, but that's meant to be a difficulty-increasing mod to begin with, so it's within the realm of acceptablity. But, well... I honestly disagree with a LOT of what you've said in this video. A lot of things that you pointed out as "good map design" are the exact same things I look at and say, "That should be 100% unacceptable in ANY ranked map". To give an example, I don't feel like it's at all acceptable to change slider velocity so suddenly like that map does. It's literally impossible to read the first time you see it. Another is those crazy noodle sliders near the end. There were a couple in particular that I saw which could easily have gone in two different directions because of the way they overlapped over themselves. And stuff like the really short sliders being slightly curved to show a change in slider speed... You're telling me you noticed that very tiny shift in slider shape and then automatically assumed it meant it would be going at a different speed, the FIRST time you played the song? I know some people are just CRAZY good at this game and can read stupidly fast approach rates, but that's a lot to figure out within the space of a few milliseconds, no? I could go on, but if this community is anything like it was when I left it, then I'm already going to be ridiculed just for saying what I already have (Now I'm questioning not only an extremely popular mapper but also a RUclipsr with a sizeable audience! Because THAT always goes over well). I mean no disrespect though. I just feel like too many maps started sacrificing gameplay for this pretentious idea of being unique and artistic with how you place your circles and lines in a video game. Maps just became harder and harder, and the unpredictable and/or unintuitive changes in spacing and speed during songs just made it feel like the mapper was TRYING to make me miss a circle here, get a slider break there. It felt like the map was trolling me and trying to make it so that it would take multiple attempts just to clear it, and straight-up memorization to FC. Dare I say it feels like... Artificial Difficulty. For the sake of being able to say that you are the devilish persona who can say you've made a REALLY hard map. So that when somebody says, "This map is so hard!", another person replies and says, "lol, you wanna talk about REAL difficulty, try playing one of rrtyui's maps". Not that I think every mapper who creates a really insanely tough map is doing it for that reason. I'm just trying to explain what the map design FEELS like it's trying to accomplish, in my opinion. I guess at the end of the day, what I'm saying is, *It's not fun to play, and if the majority of ranked maps play like this, the game of osu! in general stops being enjoyable to play.* I REALLY hope this makes sense. Keep in mind this is coming from someone who is more or less an outsider at this point, having not seriously played the game in years. I thought I was okay at the game, but I guess compared to what the "average skill level" probably is at this point, I'm nobody special. You could find my top plays on my profile, I guess? I went by the same username on osu!, just without the spaces. I also had a few maps, none ever ranked, but I at least recognize that my maps were probably never that great.
Not artificial difficulty, *Forced difficulty* and that only applies on farm maps to squize the most pp out from the system (extremly sharp jumps, full screen jumps, and alot of reversed slider ends to a jump patterns)althought i agree on all what you said,i still think his map is pretty good,HOWEVER what he meant by slider changing curveture is by establishing ''identity'' since any hard maps was not liked that time, that been said,i still think not knowing the right people will not get your maps ranked no matter the quality.
despite me believing you dsco is somewhat bad example, because he's known for his videos and whatnot on the second note, thanks for explaining why atmosphere is the best ranked map, ily pishy. please more detailed map analysis like that. it really helps to understand how mappers apply all that theory that you explained over your previous videos to a real song
Pishifat, do you think you could do a video specifically about 2B maps and how they are made? If not thats fine, but I can't find any videos that cover that topic so i think it would be interesting

every video i wonder why this guy has a big-ass cursor
He did it so it looks satisfying for Auto to play the maps, since Auto's cursor will always sync with the circle that way.
@@All-star_Giga_Gargantuar it's not auto play though but yeah it's satisfying
cuz its the same size as the circles probably
it's the same size as the hit circle if you put the correct configs

Yes, this map definitely has a short of genius behind its design, but regardless, that top Reddit comment is completely true none the less.

porochu, your assumption that unknown mappers are bad mappers is heavily flawed.
Sam Becker An unknown mapper would face opposition to what they have made, which is when they justify what they have created.
I feel like you might as well create a new series where you break down how some of the less known maps are well made
I REFRESHED MY PAGE 3 MINUTES STRAIGHT FOR THIS THANK YOU PISHIFAT
this is the most interesting video ive watched all year, and i dont even map standard

Ayyan Sea after he got better at mappiny tho

don't think pishi has the map for this tbh
"It takes time and luck, but rushing is not gonna help"
Most important part...
NXX how less does "not rushing" mean? are 7 years still too rush~ish? 🤔

Feels like rrtyui is Ainz and pishifat is Demiurge
Most underrated comment of the vid
that triangle with a thing in the middle is the fidgetquad
but there are the sotarks/armin maps where they are ranked solely by reputation though
if they arent famous it wont even get ranked
4:03 it's Atomosphere not Atmosphere
3:59 - *cough* -you spelled it wrong-

"Exit This Earth's Atomosphere" really IS the title. Source: www.discogs.com/%E3%81%8B%E3%82%81%E3%82%8A%E3%81%82-PLANETSHAPER/release/7778061

i am pretty sure it was on purpose
its obv about nuclear winter after the 3rd world war, the atmosphere is now a ATOMOSPHERE CAUSE OF ALL THE ATOMIC BOMBS... its just the DEEPEST LORE
yes, its a typo from camellia itself, not rrtyui.

How did I never notice it's Atomosphere and not Atmosphere lol
what about farm maps that are like *unsynced* but still ranked
Hey pishi, do you have any plans to make a video on score v2 and how it might affect mapping?
gonna wait til it's fully in place before making a video of it
Okorin does the same thing. Hes looking over almost every map if he finds time.
Still can't believe this map was finally FC'd
Pishifat, your voice soothes me....no asmr needed.
and thus, tech was borned?
and i didnt even know, that notepad maps could get ranked. (the one sv is at 0,07)
lolplay ͡ you're allowed to change the sv via notepad
despite me believing you dsco is somewhat bad example, because he's known for his videos and whatnot
on the second note, thanks for explaining why atmosphere is the best ranked map, ily pishy. please more detailed map analysis like that. it really helps to understand how mappers apply all that theory that you explained over your previous videos to a real song
and we just gonna disregard the fact that the map got ranked with an offset that is 50ms off
k
Pishifat, do you think you could do a video specifically about 2B maps and how they are made? If not thats fine, but I can't find any videos that cover that topic so i think it would be interesting
Rrtyi: yeah this is big brain time

Can you do a video on break times?
Exit This Earth's Mapping Meta.
hi, Is there a video about blanketing already?
I would understand as much from this video if I was blind and deaf.
Well im an unknown mapper and i dont get modded.. Well.. Maybe because i hardly map at all but this is the one big evidence that Reputation > Maps
Does this mean you need an interesting map to rank it, or is it also possible with a well-structured basic tv-size map that has an enhix spread?
Marnz you basically need just some BN's and QAT's as bf's
*looks at monstrata and Ascendance*
Marnz pretty sure you can just look at ranked maps at see what the answer is, both work
you would make a great asmr youchube tannel
20:02 Name isn't important, huh?
Then why are all the mappers you said in this video have names you can't pronounce, then, HUH?
There are exceptions, I know this mapper "with great DETERMINATION".
thinking that reputation doesn't help is having a mental illness (do i have ur attention ? good)
it's a mix of Anchoring
, Mere-exposure effect and other Cognitive bias
like for people who already know the mapper and already played map of him, they will tend to approve what the mapper do even if they're is things who would be a no-no if they never play his maps
Anchoring can happen if the first impression u got of a mapper is "damn he's good" u'll more likely say the same thing for his other maps and u will find things he didn't even thought about
at the contrary if u have a bad first impression of someone (Anchoring), this someone will have a hard time making u change your point of view and because u never ever saw him before, you don't have the mere-exposure effects.
like a new mapper do something weird (but good) with some mistakes, people would more likely be like "unrankable" and will try to discuss every choice the mapper made and because people tends to don't like new things (Status quo effect) they may have a bad first impression of this new mapper
while a well know mapper will not have this Anchoring effect so people will be less likely to discuss his choices
we can see this in every aspect of life : politics, science, art ect...
if brad pitt make a bad joke, they'll still be people laughing
if u make a bad joke well... u made a bad joke, and only people with low standart will laugh (like me)
not saying rrtyui did a bad map (it's not)
not saying it's wrong to take advantage of that (in fact do it, as long as u don't hurt anyone.. and clicking circle won't hurt anybody..... except you)
but saying it doesn't exist, it's thinking we're not subject to bias which is unfortunatly untrue
for people who still think they're not subject to bias, yeah i'm sure it's true, your special ^^

"amellia - Exit This Earth's Atomosphere" pls fix.
So you analyzed a rrytui map beyond comprehension. *claps*
But dsco does have a reputation from his youtube channel.
also "make cooler maps if you want to be noticed :(" but in order to make good maps, you'd still need a reputation. As shown by dsco and rrtyui
not really, because pishi took a look at his map and liked it, without knowing about dsco's mapping ability
i understand, getting a mapped ranked could need some connections, but how does making a good map have anything to do with your reputation? you get a reputation by making good maps, not the other way around. right?
(Copied because i wanted to share my opinion lul)
His popularity probably didn't affect Pitch Fucker directly
However, having a good reputation can definitely help his mapping
career. He's able to get mods and ask for help by numerous amounts of
people. That's how he's able to make such good first maps. Same applies
with rrtyui. On the other hand, no name mappers aren't able to receive
the support that popular people get. You never hear of no name mappers
