They year is 2008, Osu players are in love with night core, slow approach rates and small hit circles, they like tapping in time to the vocals rather than the song *loud bang* *all players turn around* It’s A-L-I-E-N everyone stares in shock “H-h-how do you p-play this???” One mutters A-L-I-E-N stares into their soul, picks them up… and rips their head open The Osu players scream, running away with their night core and vocaloid music 2star maps. “SOMEBODY SAVE US”, they all scream The horror spreads as the entire world because to scream
glad and surprised to see tsuka's rootus since it was deleted years ago and the map that inspired me the most and brought me to a new world entirely. while it's true that a lot of mappers after one point were heavily inspired by me, i honestly never thought that i was the 'origin' of this whole wub mapping category. as most of you may have already known, there were already a bunch of mappers trying to figure this kind of maps out in 2013~2014, most of them are actually where my inspiration came from. without their creations, i would've never been able to make maps like neuronecia and dreamless wanderer. i may be the one to start the trend, but i've never been the 'creator'.
dreamless wanderer is a masterpiece even today controlled without being boring exciting without being extreme subtle without being obscure maps nowadays are harder, with more intricate structure, some with more stylized sliders but they are rarely more balanced, and never more beautiful in my opinion
Could you to a vid incorporating A-L-I-E-N? It sparked a lot of controversy and I'd love to see a tried-and-true mapper to give their thoughts on it. Love your stuff
Well interesting video, but in part I was disappointed not to show Hanzer's map (Nhato - Miss you) and Nold_1702's map (Meg & Dia - Monster (DotEXE Remix)). These maps that I quoted take very much these technical map concepts.
You can just "learn" mapping. You just do it. Unless you mean a step by step guide where you can literally just copy and paste what he did and call it a map lol
pishis may i give you some Streetlight manifesto's song suggestions for you to map? I love the way you map ska punk (you can also make a video about this genre of music, high bpm jazz/blues/sax music) I'd like to see your "Somewhere in the between" BM turn into a BMS. I'd also would like to see your way to map "We will fall together", "Point-counterpoint" and "Down down down to mephisto's cafe" It would also be interesting a map made with a Toh Kay song
I wish there were more maps mapped like Worldwide Choppers or Kokou no Sousei rather than more sliderheavy techmaps. While they can be fun every now and then, playing maps like Amber's Love or some Pho maps or Camellia maps can get boring really fast. You can't even multi right now because those are the kind of maps everybody picks (aside from pp-maps) Well, atleast it seems to me that the style used in Worldwide Choppers / Saten-maps isn't really be used anywhere else (anymore). I wonder if people just find it too one-dimensional or if it's just outdated, or both.
how to map the drums on the start of the slider only? i realy want to map.but there are so MANY small questions.. like.. - how do i make sliders that change speed WHILE sliding.. like in aspire.(i dont mean slider speed change) - how do i switch slider heads? like if i want a complex slider but in reverse
I'm not that big of a fan of having sliders represent sounds instead of sections of songs. They tend to make maps a lot more technical, sometimes needlessly.
I was surprised to not hear any mention of the 2013 Foreverends map for Imma Try It Out. That was the first ranked map I can remember using very strong "wub" elements. Do you think it has any place in this timeline regarding osu wub maps?
maybe video about low bpm songs? I would like to see video how to map them in interesting way instead making of 'normal' mapping, so they're still challenging and fun to play, like for example highest diff of Ooedo Ranvu
hey pishi, i know you did a video on aesthetics already but i was really wondering if you could go into more detail about what actually makes a map look. well... good? its just something that i cant seem to understand no matter how hard I try, and it seems unbelievably complex for a noobie mapper like myself, i would rly appreciate it uwu
Hey pishi would you mind adding timestamps for the maps mentioned in your videos? It'd be really appreciated. For example I got really interested in the map shown at 9:21 but can't for the life of me figure out which one it is out of the huge list in the description.
Hey, pishi, even tho I've watched your 'aesthetics' video a ton of times, it still seems I can't get it even though I use symmetry and geometry (and figures, and blankets, and repetition, and etc). Could you make another video about aesthetics (like how to represent music in aesthetic way)?
nold was tried used something like that in skrillex maps since 2012, Hanzer have mapped Miss You months after skystar map and ranked too being the point of discussion about spacing and sliderspeed and you said Skystar was the origin of that?
To be honest even today Miss You is very controvencial map with a lot of players disliking it (personal observeration when I picked it few times in multi lobby)
The day the age of wub wub dies and get replaced by something else cant come soon enough. There is exceptions but most of the time it just feel too random.
1:52 Calling a slider velocity "vast" is kind of strange considering that the variable is one-dimensional. It in no way detracts from what you're trying to communicate, I just found it a little awkward. EDIT: In hindsight, you probably said "fast" and just slurred the "f" into more of a "v". That makes much more sense.
It wouldn't be incorrect, but just a little strange. I don't mean to complain, it's just something I noticed and felt like I wanted to share for some reason.
i think that with this kind of maps, you have to play it like one hundred times to fc them, and that's why i don't like it when people put them on the multiplayer. I just collapse c: (they are good maps tho)
Skystar was person that made "wub" maps popular , priti has his own style and he just followed the flow but I even wouldn't call him wub but technical mapper . On the side note I would say that first persons to introduce technical maps to osu are most likely Tsuka/Tsukamete and NatsumeRin (kinda) I would advice to check their maps
pishifat: "wub" maps

i was just going to type this

I thought RLC was the only mapper to ever map Rootus. :^)
i thought this was about old maps because wub=wubwoofwolf=old maps

i don't have a lot to thank this game for but i will give it credit for introducing me to camellia because his music is really, really fucking good
Steph fuck yes Camellia RULES
Steph Listening to Camellia - WHAT THE CAT is like orgasm
Flower of Wilderness
same with nhato tbh, he's the best producer i've seen on osu right next to camellia
this game introduced me to Camellia, Porter Robinson, Reol, S3RL, DM DOKURO, Panda Eyes, and more. Plus it's one of the best rhythm games I've played.

they'll get time in the spotlight at some point too dw
I wanted to create a beatmap but after seeing this video I am not motivated any more... xd
MrKrejzol ᴴᴰ Just map!!!
cool
Yeah, he's got a whole series of "mapping" videos and not a single one teaching us how to map anything. Lmao
da leezard
yo dipshit try actually experimenting and learning from trial and error
You can just "learn" mapping. You just do it. Unless you mean a step by step guide where you can literally just copy and paste what he did and call it a map lol
I love the name that you gave them, let's call them wub maps from now on
john matthews they've already been called wub maps
pishis may i give you some Streetlight manifesto's song suggestions for you to map? I love the way you map ska punk (you can also make a video about this genre of music, high bpm jazz/blues/sax music)

I wonder if people just find it too one-dimensional or if it's just outdated, or both.
Combination of both. The style you're thinking of is very limited in rhythm and ideas, so most mappers stopped doing that.
hiyuumi how does that disprove my point lol.
how to map the drums on the start of the slider only?
i realy want to map.but there are so MANY small questions.. like..

You will NEVER have nothing to talk about, and if it sounds boring, you make it really interesting!
Did you just assume the pronunciation of rrtyui's name
i am proficient in keyboard spam pronunciation, do not second guess
pishifat *second guesses
Its pronounced "ruruchi" but spelt rrtyui
I'm not that big of a fan of having sliders represent sounds instead of sections of songs. They tend to make maps a lot more technical, sometimes needlessly.
Hey I kinda made it into a pishifat video (I'm the guy who made the /r/osugame survey)! And in a video about my fav maps too! :D
Pishifat: Skystar used good mapping and unique slider styles to expre.....
Skystar: Yeah.... I totally meant to do all that.
8:02 triggered me, it has been around for far longer xD
I DONT SEE PEPPY'S NAME ON END SCREEN
PEPPY U BETRAYED ME
I was surprised to not hear any mention of the 2013 Foreverends map for Imma Try It Out. That was the first ranked map I can remember using very strong "wub" elements. Do you think it has any place in this timeline regarding osu wub maps?
Damn, what a coincidence, i was just watching another video from that channel and this popped up in my recommendations.
you should do a vid about old mapping cause i thought the title meant www maps lmao
DUDE I JUST REALISED YOUR KEY PRESSES ARE VERY SIMILAR TO MINE HOLEY SHIIITTTT. LIKE NO SINGLE TAPS.
ambers love and boogie are both so goooood
I really love "wub" maps that said, they're interesting to play I think
maybe video about low bpm songs? I would like to see video how to map them in interesting way instead making of 'normal' mapping, so they're still challenging and fun to play, like for example highest diff of Ooedo Ranvu
Solniczga that's mapped at 268bpm lol
Commentator well, it's mapped differently than a song which have originally 268 bpm
it's an alt map
I was waiting just for this :D
If we didn't have wub maps i highly doubt i would still be playing
I don't even map, sometimes I find myself not paying attention to your videos. But I still keep watching all of them //
hey pishi, i know you did a video on aesthetics already but i was really wondering if you could go into more detail about what actually makes a map look. well... good? its just something that i cant seem to understand no matter how hard I try, and it seems unbelievably complex for a noobie mapper like myself, i would rly appreciate it uwu

Just something: dreamless wanderer is a collab
1:40 umm the map is from Amamiya Yuko...
Skystar's nickname was "Amamiya Yuko" in past
RockStyle which is skystar
ouhhh okay thanks
Hey, pishi, even tho I've watched your 'aesthetics' video a ton of times, it still seems I can't get it even though I use symmetry and geometry (and figures, and blankets, and repetition, and etc). Could you make another video about aesthetics (like how to represent music in aesthetic way)?
Could you make a video about the star rating system? Love your vids
will you map anything from rise against's new album? I'm dying for more edgy music on osu
not planning on it
oh ok thanks for responding

I always feel motivated to map more after the weekly dose of hello there
no link for the drumstep4 map? ;-;
4:52 yeaa he knew...
would you ever make a video about non-rankable techniques, like 2B?
aspire
nold was tried used something like that in skrillex maps since 2012, Hanzer have mapped Miss You months after skystar map and ranked too being the point of discussion about spacing and sliderspeed and you said Skystar was the origin of that?
skystar's the one that garnered tech maps' popularity. the critical response for nold and hanzer were very divided when they released their maps
To be honest even today Miss You is very controvencial map with a lot of players disliking it (personal observeration when I picked it few times in multi lobby)
do a video on Hollow Wing's notch hell lol
CAMELLIA FEATURED ARTIST WHEN
Its called technical
You could've just explain "wub maps", by "actually not overweightet maps". Works
they're so satisfying to hit too :D
what about osu!mania wub

rip pishizor
dreamless wanderer by skystar is the best map in the game
hey can you lend me some mapping motivation thanks
Take a shot every time pishifat says “wub”
hanzer is not in plz come again
Tech?
Camellia is a beast when it comes to edm and his tracks are perfect for osu not for all though
the graph says that players don't like slider heavy technical maps, so why are you saying they are popular ?
RockStyle Because theyre hard, and players like hard maps.
because they're known in the community?
they're popular because a lot of people known them lmfao not because they like it
RockStyle it's the same as with Justin Bieber, although the majority doesn't like him, he's popular.
if you're talking about the reddit survey graph - 4 was the highest grade you could give, which meant "I really like this", if I recall correctly
that clears it
thanks
