I used to drum and I cannot imagine using kick pedals for osu! I was already tired after drumming with it for like 2 hours so I can’t imagine streaming with this lol
I feel like there’s absolutely no downfall in learning how to alternate, but if you’ve played for many many months only single-tapping, alternating is extremely harder to learn. One of the main problems people say alternating has is not being able to stay in rhythm, but that’s just the learning curve imo. Maybe it’s just personal preference, but I believe alternating is overall better 👌
Guys is easy to learn the alternating. You just have to play osu taiko with 2 buttons, so you alternate very often and in few hours you get used to the alternating perfectly, that's my experience
I'm one of those people that have been single tapping my way up the Osu difficulty, however I am now stuck because I can't do streams. My plan is to go back to the very beginning and start with easy songs and forcing myself to alternate, to then eventually get back to the level I am at with single tapping.
MeowSaysMe Unfortunately , i have the same issues especially with 200+ bpm I single tapped from 4 years but then when I started playing 5* and higher and those tech maps it’s really difficult to keep up with the bpm with single tapping and it’s really hard to maintain consistency and stamina as it’s really exhausting to do a 4-5 min map with like over 9 AR+ and 200+ bpm some parts are extremely hard to keep up with especially the triples on curves as you really have to start those triples and double bursts with your dominant finger so yeah, in conclusion alternating is a must if you wanna go on high levels of this game , you have to do it all over from 3 star maps up again and it’s gonna take a while.
@Orfan Warrior streaming is obviously hard on a fundamental level, but i don't think it's unreasonable to say that having 2 fingers is obviously easier to do it than with only 1.
That’s what I did. When I started to get to 3*+ songs, I went back from the very beginning and forced myself to alternate. I got used to it very quickly.

I singletapped until about 2.1k pp and decided to fully transition to alternating at the same time I switched from mouse to tablet, took me 3 weeks to learn to play with that combo but from experience I'd say you can improve faster by alternating as faster maps become way easier
This is the video that made me decide to start alternating after weeks of single tapping, and after learning how to alternate I improved more than I expected. Thanks man
loool i started playing osu! only alternating and with the time i switched to "hybridalternating"... i dont know it just makes me happy to see that for once i did something right feelsgoodman :,)
hmmm, I always fully alternated, and I don't imagine myself stopping. Because it seems like another effort to know when not to alternate :s I'm not ready for this ! Also, I love to think that my fingers will actually be equally trained. Which is not the case with pseudo alternating. For example, starting a stream with the weak finger is a bit harder for me. I can't imagine for a pseudo alternating person.
elie520 well my fingers are equally trained because I use both to singletap when I need to... so I don't have something like a "stronger" one but yeah it all comes down to preference
Oh okay. I didn't think that pseudo-alterrnating ppl used different finger to single tap :) Seems good then. Because indeed it feels like single tap is more accurate.
Yea they do only on streams, and that’s the only thing we lower level focus on when watching pros, on streams and bursts, not knowing they single tap more than alternating depending on the level
when I learned you could use 2 different keys to tap I just instinctively alternated everything because it was way easier, and felt almost instantly natural to me. I was doing it basically from the start (after the very first couple maps I obviously mouse clicked) I only learned much later that the majority of people don't do this and it kind of floored me. If I tried to single tap I would probably fail every map I try lmao
At first alternating felt awkward because I was so used to single tapping, but after a few days of practice I managed to get the hang of it, and I'm doing way better than I used to before.
I single tap but switch fingers every once in a while on long maps, when I have a split second break. My middle and pointer finger, i'd say have the same dominance in strength and stamina level. Im currently switching over to alternating and I think that since I basically have 2 dom fingers, it will make the switch a lot easier. I've been playing for about 3 months and have 2.4k pp. Played keyboard and tablet since the start, for reference.
When i started playing osu i thought that everyone is alternating, so i learned this. When i played more i realised that everyone single taps. Lately i wanted to switch from alternating to singletapping, to go from alternating to singletapping is so hard to learn. After this video i'll probably stay on alternating, like i already said it's pretty hard to learn singletapping and it's also pretty frustating.
Same, just today I learned higher skilled players only alternate on streams and bursts and now after learning alternating I have to learn hybrid but I’m willing to try so I can be better

Only a 3-4* player here, but decided to try alternating rather than single tapping today and I'm so used to doing it single tap I can barely do a 2* lol so if you're going to alternate do it from the start or you'll be like me
In my experience if you're actually used to alternating, accing jumps is just as easy as while singletapping, maybe even easier because it requires practically no stamina no matter what the speed. What's difficult is complex rhythms and stream stamina.
it took me years to master alternating between sequences of doubles and triples, what a fucking demonic pattern. regarding stream stamina, i think that's a problem for all styles.
I played single tapping for about a month, then one of my friends told me to try alternating and now i've pretty much trained myself to alternate with just about everything. The only time i don't alternate is when there is a large gap in time between jumps, otherwise, i alternate. I've become so accustomed to this, i'm not sure if i want to try hybrid alternating.
Single tapping is useful for starters. But the problem as the map goes harder and faster your single tapping skills is at disadvantage due to either can't catch up anymore. That's the reason alternating should be learned early, same as single tap if you want to train both type of tapping.
I started out single tapping then got into mania and quit standard. A few months then I decided to play standard again and tried out alternating, and I actually found it way more comfortable than singletapping.
Personally i find it more comfortable too, just i lack the speed to hit some jumps and end up overtapping/undertapping, in the end its all about finger control. I don't have enough of it yet to fully alternate.
to be 100% honest I got bored one day and was like "fuck it, I am shit at standard so let's meme around and learn mania," xd. I am only 19k on mania though ;-;
@@ackerman4421 like if i singletap my fingers just give up and either don't move or i just start alternating unconsciously, however i feel comfortable alternating so i don't really care
I naturally Hybrid Alternate, been that way since I started and I feel super lucky I didn't have to learn it. Probably the reason I became a 4 digit within a year.
Alternating is better. Higher skill cap in my opinion when it comes to acc and fcing songs while alternating than single tapping. There are also songs that are pretty much impossible to single tap that are only made possible through alternating and really fast dt maps that require alternating. Single tap fast bpm for rsi 😂
As a player who played full alt for years and smthing since the beginning, I'll say that trying singletap is good because it makes the way you just tap and way you stream different, so I can now stream just a little. Full alt is still deep in my heart though
Something in this video that I don't think was emphasized enough was recommending whatever works for you. Everybody is different, some people can single tap super fast without much time needed training, some people can naturally alternate without having a dominant finger. Other people will require many hours to do one of or both of these things. Personally I single tap almost all maps, but have little issue full alternating if I feel like doing so. I find it varies heavily depending on the map you're playing.
I started 2012 singletap only now im learning to alternate since i can not singletap 260 BPM upwards consistently and its really hard but getting bettter overall is a huge sideeffect! And the satisfaction fcing spaced streams or 300+BPM jumps
Dang you guys are weird i started alternating from the start and started to single tap cause thought it was easier to single tap on jumps so basically I can single tap or alternate if i want to willingly
@@Amesyy but how long did it take to fully learn? do you never accidentally miss patterns with alternating doubles and triples? or doubles and quadruples or weird patterns like that.
@@BattousaiHBr probably as long as it took me to master 3 stars, as I already said I've been full alternating since the utter start so there wasn't really a learning curve for me.
One thing that's rarely mentioned: full alting tech maps is very, very satisfying. It's a feeling that's specific to full alt, quite similar to how you feel when you start properly reading patterns or hitting jumps or streams. Your brain will tingle
When I started I did single tapping but when like 1 week passed I decided to do alternating, then that was when I realised: I cant get back to single tapping, like at all
i was ,,hybrid alternating" form the very beggining (after i stopped clicking mouse) For me it was natural to alternate tho i still singletap some double or triple circle bursts
I am using K1 for sliders, K2 for singletaps and doubletaps (if they are slow enough) and use both (alternating) for streams and triple+ tapping (if too fast for only K2). Can this be called Hybrid Alternating?
its really all just preference. simple. u can always build consistency, speed, finger control with both techniques after playing with the style more often. play with what ur comfortable with.
I have carpal tunnel with my left hand in which my index finger was most affected, so i started alternating hybrid and singletapping with all my fingers in my left hand.
Bro... I've been alternating from the begging and im actually trying to learn how to single tap. Here you are telling me alternate is better. I feel like a clown.
Just my own playstyle as a beginner (like 1.3 million rank) I believe the best way to Alternate is to hold down the button you pushed regardless if it is a singletap; therefore, when you need to jump, you just need to alternate to the other finger whilst letting go of the already-pressed finger. This emulates single-tapping on both fingers; however, this style is mostly applicable to low-star beatmaps. When doing bursts, it'll often be easier to mess up due to the shittapping of not building a conscious 2-tap switch or 3-tap switch or even 4-tap switch or even letting go at the end of a burst where you move onto a slider.
I learned how to play by alternating, and sometimes if a map does not have an equal amount of k1 and k2 numbers I will keep on trying untill I get it even and balanced, as all things should be...
I just started roughly two weeks ago, first began with clicking with my pen, then I hovered and singletapped, then I disabled my mouse keys and kept on singletapping and when I was getting into the "normal" maps I began alternating and for me alternating is much easier. It feels as if I have twice the time for each note and now I started deleting one-star maps. If I'm able to beat a harder map of the same song I delete the previous difficulty. The learning phase was five minutes, because I was still on easy maps.
As a second generation alternater (with a holy wacom intuos cth-480 passed down to me by a washed up 4 digit player), it still took a month or so to get it right. Once you get it right though, you will feel a big improvement and your finger control while alternating will skyrocket. Alternating *isnt* about your muscle being accustomed to it or having trained muscles on your secondary finger. It is all in your head, which means once you learn to be able to instinctively alternate, you will be able to alternate with any two fingers on that hand.
dude I was trying out alternating before but i couldn't quite understand it, I watched this video and after about 30 minutes of practice I was able to break my skill ceiling and see good improvement. Very glad I watched this amazing video
ive used alternation since day one. the really good thing about it is that you always have one free finger to tap the next circle when the other is busy recovering from the last one
What I have been trying to learn is single tapping but use my middle finger halfway through then when I can, switch to my index finger so I don't continuously miss at the end
I used to single tap, then when I got to hard maps where I'd run out of stamina from it I ended up taking a year long break from Osu. Now, I always alternate, and I have enough control after about 2 weeks of relearning muscle memory using AutoPilot to end Happppy Song (the first one, with the stream replaced with sliders cuz I know I can't do the stream and it dropped my acc a ton) with exactly enough inputs per finger and 82% accuracy which is improving every day. My though process is: if I don't care which finger I press, it doesn't matter how fast the song is or how complex the pattern. My goal is literally to have my fingers always able to keep up, and never panic spam. I went from 75%acc with 80x misses on Happppy Song to now having 82%acc with 20x misses. I also went from about 635 inputs per finger to 615, and with the modification I added to a separate difficulty I should have 615 per finger. I can definitively see that I have gained control, so personally, I would recommend alternating. Replay easy maps until you always alternate, then increase difficulty until you end up with too many inputs. Keep trying at that difficulty till you get consistent alternation, and you'll find you can do way, wayyy longer maps with consistent accuracy in no time. Plus, not having one finger get tired and lock up is really nice.
As someone who has alternated since the very beginning, I don't know if there's a correlation, but I've always been better at streams than jumps. Although I still deffinitley have one finger get more fatigued than the other.
commenting 2 years later, i started playing standard more (mainly osu!mania player) and have no problem single tapping and/or alternating. So I think that mania helps, for those that struggle learning it
I started the game alternating because I thought that’s how u played the game, I never knew what single tapping was until I started watching videos about osu
I would say as a full alternate player, alternating is also much harder to learn triples and streams. This is because single tappers just keep clicking the rhythm they did before the streams and when streaming they just alternate fingers with the exact same rhythm of their dominant finger, so it is very easy to know how to click twice as fast. However for alternate players we don’t have a finger for speed reference, we just have to click what we think twice as fast alternation would be, which is pretty abstract.
I usually overcome the fatigue problem by changing the finger midsong and just continue singletapping with the other finger. I don't know if this playstyle has a name, I just kinda did it forever and never thought about it very much, it just suits me good.
I've been full alternating since I started osu, I never really watched osu content until later where I would find out my natural tapping method was hard to learn
im a mania player but ive been trying to learn how to be more consistent at alternating in standard for a while now, and something ive noticed is that playing more handstream/generally dense stream maps in mania helps a lot with gaining consistency in tapping in standard, i still normally singletap because i dont have too many issues with finger control or stamina, but i have very bad raw speed so i can only singletap up to 220bpm, so playing trilly mania patterns often helps me a lot with getting accuracy on streams and jumps too fast to singletap
single tappers: "my dominant finger is tired"
alternate and hybrids: no pain
me hybriding after 1 map: "well i guess my both fingers are broken now"

i literally can’t alternate cause my brain gets confused and i just don’t do it when I try
same
conclusion: just press the damn key
As a player who played full alt for years and smthing since the beginning, I'll say that trying singletap is good because it makes the way you just tap and way you stream different, so I can now stream just a little. Full alt is still deep in my heart though
Something in this video that I don't think was emphasized enough was recommending whatever works for you. Everybody is different, some people can single tap super fast without much time needed training, some people can naturally alternate without having a dominant finger. Other people will require many hours to do one of or both of these things. Personally I single tap almost all maps, but have little issue full alternating if I feel like doing so. I find it varies heavily depending on the map you're playing.

hey im on tv!
what
I started 2012 singletap only now im learning to alternate since i can not singletap 260 BPM upwards consistently and its really hard but getting bettter overall is a huge sideeffect! And the satisfaction fcing spaced streams or 300+BPM jumps
Dang you guys are weird i started alternating from the start and started to single tap cause thought it was easier to single tap on jumps so basically I can single tap or alternate if i want to willingly
i like how the instant the video started i immediately recognized you're playing through the fire and flames
god i love that map so much
Actually the most effective method is alternating 4 ways between the keyboard and mouse buttons, get it right.
I naturally do alternating always have it feels weird to do single
I’ve been full alternating since the start lmfao
how long did it take for you to fully master it? by fully master i mean never ever missing a note because your fingers got confused.
@@BattousaiHBr idk my fingers just know, it's like a second nature for me
@@Amesyy but how long did it take to fully learn? do you never accidentally miss patterns with alternating doubles and triples? or doubles and quadruples or weird patterns like that.
@@BattousaiHBr probably as long as it took me to master 3 stars, as I already said I've been full alternating since the utter start so there wasn't really a learning curve for me.
@@Amesyy i think you might be misremembering...
singletapping fast parts and alternating slow parts for me
Siru I do the exact opposite of that lol
jfjdikqkalapncjcofo lmao same
One thing that's rarely mentioned: full alting tech maps is very, very satisfying. It's a feeling that's specific to full alt, quite similar to how you feel when you start properly reading patterns or hitting jumps or streams.
Your brain will tingle
i started alternating from the beginning bc i thought that was the point of having two buttons/keys
When I started I did single tapping but when like 1 week passed I decided to do alternating, then that was when I realised: I cant get back to single tapping, like at all
Yup it's so hard lmao
Same, though after learning to alternate, I preferred alternating over single tapping.
I started playing 2 months ago and i always did hybrid alternation without knowing anything about the game haha.
Lucky you
i was ,,hybrid alternating" form the very beggining (after i stopped clicking mouse)
For me it was natural to alternate tho i still singletap some double or triple circle bursts
I started off alternating and now I just cant bring myself to do anything else, I don't understand how people are able to single tap anymore.
Now... Single tap 270bpm jumps!
Alternating . Boom were done here.
OwO updated stream tips plz
I am using K1 for sliders, K2 for singletaps and doubletaps (if they are slow enough) and use both (alternating) for streams and triple+ tapping (if too fast for only K2).
Can this be called Hybrid Alternating?
its really all just preference. simple. u can always build consistency, speed, finger control with both techniques after playing with the style more often. play with what ur comfortable with.
I have carpal tunnel with my left hand in which my index finger was most affected, so i started alternating hybrid and singletapping with all my fingers in my left hand.
Why did alternating take me like 1 week to adjust lmao, I didn't even have to learn it, but now singletapping is super weird to me
RozumariSama Rank?

lucky u
Bro... I've been alternating from the begging and im actually trying to learn how to single tap. Here you are telling me alternate is better. I feel like a clown.
Just hybrid alternate.
Just my own playstyle as a beginner (like 1.3 million rank)
I believe the best way to Alternate is to hold down the button you pushed regardless if it is a singletap; therefore, when you need to jump, you just need to alternate to the other finger whilst letting go of the already-pressed finger.
I actually single tapped with both my fingers so learning alternating was pretty easy 😄
I played with both fingers thinking it would help with alternating
All it did was confuse my brain even more
I feel like people coming from things like step mania will definitely find just flat out alternating pretty intuitive.
That moment you manage to figure out the beatmap playing in the background just by tapping to the beat POG
I alternate literally EVERYTHING and never used single tapping before💀
I'm glad I was playing full alt since day one. Being a pianist makes osu very easy sometimes
What I have been trying to learn is single tapping but use my middle finger halfway through then when I can, switch to my index finger so I don't continuously miss at the end
Apparently I have been Hyber alternating for years. Not sure why this video came up, but it was fun to look at.
True, but I think learning to stream at the proper pace is important anyway for playing maps with variable bpms and tricky maps in general.
I started alternating from the start, i thought: why not it is probably better.
i’ve been alternating since the second i began playing bc my friend who was a 4 digit at the time told me to single tap and i don’t regret it
I usually overcome the fatigue problem by changing the finger midsong and just continue singletapping with the other finger. I don't know if this playstyle has a name, I just kinda did it forever and never thought about it very much, it just suits me good.
At first I single tapped a lot, but as soon as I got a good hang on alternating, It's improved my playstyle a lot. Now it's just instinct.
Other people : "My finger hurt spamming the keys"
Me : My forearm in pain controlling the mouse.
.
Weird
for me it's my shoulder since i play with low dpi (arm aimer in csgo)
Ive been Hybrid alternating and its pretty great
I've been full alternating since I started osu, I never really watched osu content until later where I would find out my natural tapping method was hard to learn
im a mania player but ive been trying to learn how to be more consistent at alternating in standard for a while now, and something ive noticed is that playing more handstream/generally dense stream maps in mania helps a lot with gaining consistency in tapping in standard, i still normally singletap because i dont have too many issues with finger control or stamina, but i have very bad raw speed so i can only singletap up to 220bpm, so playing trilly mania patterns often helps me a lot with getting accuracy on streams and jumps too fast to singletap
As a hybrid alternater, I basically just alternate for everything including jumps. I only single tap for double up to quadruple burst.
