The amount of fun I had playing osu increased exponentially once I got to the point where I could handle hard and light insanes. There is such a signifigant lack of good quality low difficulty maps.
Which is sad because that what new people playing osu will play, and if it's designed like a chore and it's bad, it will just make them stop playing the game

@@pishifat Hey, should I begin mapping maps that are in the playable zone for me? Because you need to play quite a fair bit of maps to see what they have in common and learn from them.
@@All-star_Giga_Gargantuar I would say (if your new to mapping) start out with non complex low - mid bpm maps / songs. Rank / 'play zone' does not = mapping experience. Starting slow and working your way up is the way to go (imo). Mapping is like an entire game within the game. I see a decent amount of 6 digits mapping 6 - 7 stars so that's why i think it goes down to mapping exp not playing exp.
fanzhen's Basic diff on Dopamine is amazing imo, but anyways. i think easier diffs are really nice because just like insanes and higher, they might be able to describe a song perfectly compared to any other way of mapping. low-fi, chillstep, Hollow Wings' two super pretty maps. that kind of stuff.
I can fc 3 star maps but not much higher and I hate it when mappers take an already fast song and put things like triple taps constantly or put big streams because it's already going fast but now I gotta worry about making sure I'm hitting z and x fast but not so fast that I get ahead of the circles.
Oof Master imo hard is the hardest of the 3 and as I go down in difficulty, it gets easier and easier. But that’s because I don’t understand hard difficulty construction
Mercury - Hard isn’t hard because normal people who can comprehend circles and curves perfectly is more focused on Hard-Insane maps. Easy and Normal difficulties are actually difficult to map because of inexperienced players playing it, you can’t really determine whether a map is too hard or you’re underestimating new players. Since distance snapping exists, mapping easy difficulties went easier than before. If you’re having a bad time mapping Hard levels, distance snapping isn’t actually an option due to the jumps needed to make a map harder than before.
12:30 that's exactly whats wrong with low star maps. And they are ultra boring because of that. Of course there are some good ones but you have to know how to find them. As a new player you don't. I started playing maps that were way too hard for me and spent over 400 attempts just to pass my first two maps, each. I didn't mind it then because the maps were actually fun to play, but I didn't learn to play. I just spammed buttons. There should be couple tutorial easy maps that anyone can read (like described in the video) and leave the rest to mappers. If mappers are allowed to do more interesting low star maps I bet they will. (Also maybe not mandatory to have low star maps for every song. Like make 2 get 1 for free kind of deal.) quality >> quantity
As someone who has been playing Osu! for 2 1/2 months and has recently been able to get a B on 3-star maps, I really do appreciate the people who put effort into their low-difficulty maps.
The problem for me in creating low level difficulties is not that hey are boring or a chore, but that they are untestable by me as I can't fit myself in a new players shoes. I don't understand how hard or interesting the map feels for the target audience...
Will you be making a similar guide to higher difficulties? Or are you just focusing on the issues of the grey area on easy, normal, and hard difficulties?
Easy, normal, and hard difficulties are very limited in rhythm choice and concepts. You have to adhere to strict guidelines for your lower difficulties to be rankable. The higher difficulties allow virtually anything, so he can't really make a video like this for higher difficulties.
circle on slider start is harder for me than double circle on slider hahaha Btw while you do not use certain features in lower difficulties and others in higher difficulties you could also teach users the harder features in lower difficulties if done right :P
I know that this is a horrible idea, but someone should map one of these videos, but every slider, circle, and spinner are actual things you have to click.
I played easy maps, progressively playing harder maps until I already reached 2*. Skipping to normal seems a bit unnecessary unless you already have experience in the game, which is impossible if you're new.
I never played easy diffs. When I started i found them to be too easy for me and thus I am really bad at maping them. The same goes for hard diffs too, so thank you for this video :D maybe I will finally get my first map ranked ._.
I think that would be for the ingame playtime, not real time. I got to normal diffs during the first night playing, but i played for 5 hours, unlike most ppl
