I know I am answering this kinda late so you may have already found this but I did use the berry knot incorporated into this larger project for example ruclips.net/video/rUZTKQcmJVY/видео.html
Hi, I’m new to macrame and have done two basic projects, one with a leaf and one wall hanging using lark and square knots. Both projects were from two different RUclips authors. Even though I followed the measurements very closely, I had so much cords left over in the end, which was a big waste. I would like to do this project, and want to clarify that I need 8ft to 18ft? The finished project barely looks 3 feet. Are the measurements correct? Thanks in advance!
I get it, the leftover cords are very frustrating but so is running out of cords so I think that's why a lot of people will prefer to have longer cords. The measurements are correct - 18 ft are the longest cords, 8 ft the shortest. The berry knots "consume" a lot of cord and there are a lot of them on that one side so that's why you really need those cords to be quite long.
Hi! I’m so glad I found u! Thank u so much for all the great tips! Question- what type of ‘stand’ are u using ?? Is it like a standing clothing rack? Ty
Hi hi👋I want to start with this beauty but don't know how many meters I need😳I'm a beginner pls help 😅😵you're a great inspiration for me. Greets from Germany 🎉 OK I have read your discription for it. Can I say it'll be taken for 6 knots 12 cords, right? So always the half and the length i really don't know yet🤔
Hey! Very nice video the way you have given the exact measurements made video different from others. But I'm still confuse with measurements. 2 cords at 2,4 m means I have to take 2 cords each 95 inches???
Sorry for the late reply, you may have already done this in the meantime but yes, it should work if you double the cords and then use double the lengths for those new cords.
Oh I get you, I am loving the braided cords more and more with every project I make with them. Have you seen the modern chandelier and my latest spiral knots wall hanging videos? I was using the braided cords in both of those ;) ruclips.net/video/gQcXiSSFMzE/видео.html ruclips.net/video/6T6aR8XdXxA/видео.html
Hi, I'm new to macrame. I have enjoyed watching your tutorials. I'm in the process of doing this wall hanging. I've watched this video 25 times. I've had to take my project apart 3 times. Would you please elaborate on how many berries per row? I've done the rope length in inches. My far left side, the last 4 rows b4 the very last are coming up with short cording. Would you please go in more depth with this video for beginners? Thanks. I'm enjoying your channel. I would love to complete this project. Any help you can give will be very appreciated.
Hi, the first row has 12 berry knots and then it's always one less for the next two rows, so 11 and 11, 10 and 10 and so on until you have only one berry knot in the last two rows. If you are running short with your cords you could do fewer knots at the top, maybe only start with 11 or 10 (unless you want to cut longer cords of course).

Hi Anna! I love your projects! I am attempting your berry knot wall hanging. I have started it twice and had to tear it down. I just don't understand the numbers. What does 18,7 mean? I've added the numbers & can't come up with 319 total feet. I would so appreciate your help! I want to see this on my wall! Thanks! Joyce
Thank you! Yeah, the measurements for that berry knot wall hanging are tight. The 18,7 feet is for the first set of two cords - so cut each cord at 18,7 feet. These then go on the very left side. I added up all the measurements to check and they do come to 319 feet (each measurement is added twice because you always have two cords at that same length). Did that help?
@@kittykittydogsonmom sorry, I am not used to using that system....18,7 means almost 19 feet. You can use a convertor you are familiar with and put in 570 cm to see what it converts to
Hmm, that’s a good question and it’s something I struggle with too. I’m glad it doesn’t show that much 😁. I will keep this in mind and show this in one of my future tutorials. But basically I just wrap the cord about three times around the dowel and then make two knots at the back to tie the two ends together. You could also glue the short end to the dowel at the back to make sure it is not visible at all.
Thank you! Yeah, same here, I try to calculate as precisely as I can so that I am not wasting too much cord and it doesn't always work :D The great advantage of the RUclips tutorial is that I have already re-calculated to make up for my earlier mistakes and I give you guys more accurate measurements.
If I am using a regular twisted cotton rope at 5mm am I going to be using the same measurements that are in the description? or is it different between braided and twisted chords?? Thanks so much! love your work
Hi Jessica, there are certainly difference between braided and twisted cords, you can check out my video on cords here: ruclips.net/video/9vGbMDy_VFk/видео.html. But I would say the difference is not that great and especially since you are using a 5mm cord as well I think it's safe to go for the same measurements. Maybe just a little bit longer for your twisted cords since the braided can be stretched more and you can't really do that with the twisted cords.
Hi Paola, well it depends on how you define “huge”. There will definitely be a difference in the final size of the piece. But there is a couple things you can do to make the piece a bit bigger. One is that you can simply make the berry knots more apart so there will be a gap between all of them. This will spread them more at the top and make it wider and longer as well. The second option is to add more cords (and berry knots) at the very top. But keep in mind that if you want to do this you will also need to cut your cords longer to account for the extra knots that you will be doing. You can check out my video on how to measure your cords if you want to do this second option ;) I hope this helped.
hi there! thank you sooo much for this video :) my grandma wants me to do one like this, but 90cm long (overall, fringe included). and with only 10 knots in the first row. could you tell me if my math is correct? haha my cord is also 5mm. since I’m doing only 10 knots, my longest would be 5,1m (I just “ignored” the first 2 measures of your project). if 5,1m = 60cm in the finished piece, then I need 7,6m to have a 90cm finished piece. is this correct? or should I measure based on the shortest cord? then my shortest would be 3,6m... I figured I could just do a rule of three hahaha thanks again!!
Hi Rafaela, I am glad that you liked the video! So if you want to do 10 knots at the top and the total length should be 90 cm then you are right that you would skip the first two measurements and your first pair of cords should be 5,1 m + 60 cm. This is because the difference between my 60 cm of total length and your 90 cm is 30 cm but these 30 cm will be added only to the fringe section, the knot section stays the same. And then you need to multiply the 30 cm by 2 to account for the lark's head knot at the top. So the total length of your first pair of cords should be 5,7 m, I would suggest to make it 6 m just to be on the safe side. And then you would just keep removing 30 cm for each following pair of cords until you get to your shortest ones of 3,3 m. I hope this makes sense, please feel free to ask more questions if it's unclear ;) These calculations can be really tricky sometimes...But I am sure that you will make a great piece and your grandma will love it :)
Ah, okay, now I got you. That’s correct, you will use those two ropes on the left only in the third row when creating the first knot on that row. I hope that helped.
I love this project. I made this but had problems with the final cords being different lengths. I tried cutting it to the shortest cord on the right but unfortunately it made it way too short on the left. I used braided cord but it didn't seem as plump as your cord was not as flexible. This may have been my downfall. I tried to compensate for the short cords by adding a row of cords behind it. Unfortunately because the color cord was royal blue and adding the additional cords it changed the whole look. Do you have any suggestions on how you would have tried to fix it. I didn't want to ditch the whole project. I would like to send a photo but can't figure out how to attach. 😮
Unfortunately you can't attach photos here on RUclips, you can either find me on Instagram or if you would join my Patreon community www.patreon.com/uzliky we have Discord which is a chatting platform where you can also attach photos. I would love to help you and have a few ideas but it would certainly help to see a photo of where you are with it at first.
Thanks for the tutorial 😀. If I start off with 12 berry knots and continue with 12 rows of alternating berry knots to create a square with 50cm fringe ( instead of asymmetrical) ... can I start with approx 5 .5m each. Using 4mm cotton string.
You're welcome! I think that should work given that you will also be working with slightly thinner cords. My longest cord was 5,7m but I think you can get away with 5,5 because you will also have fewer rows of knots if you want to create a square.
Quick question. What would I need to do if I wanted to remove the berry knot from the wood dowel? How would I tie it off? I'd like to make a berry knot and then use it for a miniature doll head. :-)
Hmmm...maybe you could try doing the berry knots with separate cords like I did for example here on this project with those colourful cords in the diamond pattern ruclips.net/video/rUZTKQcmJVY/видео.html&lc=UgywyRBH1-pTqrcRQ5t4AaABAg
Hey hi Anna... Thanks ones again for this wonderful tutorial. Will definitely be trying it. Just wanted to know if I am using 3mm-4mm twisted cord, then will the measurement differ..?
Hi Priti 🙂 well you could use the same measurements however the finished piece will be a bit smaller than mine if you are using thinner cords. Or the other option is that you add more knots to the top row to make it wider but then you will need to cut all of your cords a little bit longer, about 20-30 cm more for every extra knot you add to that first row. I hope that helps.
Hi, that's strange, you might need to click on "show more" or something like that to see the full description. All of the cords are different lengths so it would be best to follow those exact measurements.
I know I am answering this kinda late so you may not need this information anymore but you can definitely do this with fewer or more cords, it just needs to be a number that you can divide by 2 😉
I know I am answering this kinda late so you may have already found this but the description box is right underneath the video window. You will have to click on "show more" to expand it to see the full description 😉
I think I saw some cord size conversions online but I can't find them now and I haven't done them myself. If you want to play it safe just use the same length 😉
Hi Lisa, you don’t necessarily need to add anything to the length but your final piece will be slightly smaller than mine because of the thinner cords (very slightly, 5 mm vs 4 mm is a really small difference). What you could do is add another knot to the first row to make the final piece larger. If you do that that’s when you will need to cut your cords longer (about 20-30 cm for each berry knot you add to the top row). I hope that helps.
Very clear and easy to follow! Thank you for this beautiful video! Will definitely try it! Ps. I have 3mm rope, and just started my adventure with macrame so don't really know the differences with different mm. Could I use that and apply same measures? Thank you very much :)
Thank you Charlotte 😊 You could use the same measures and pattern but your final piece will be a little bit smaller (both in width and length). You can check out this video where I talk about measuring cord and also the difference for different role sizes ruclips.net/video/Eah8xMSfPyI/видео.html
Hi Ana 👋 I have done this video explaining how to calculate cord ruclips.net/video/Eah8xMSfPyI/видео.html and I think it's perfect for you because I am using this exact piece for one of the examples 😉 So I hope that helps...
excited to try this as my third macrame project! Would love to know how you figure out what size rope to use for your projects. Being new and following along with tutorials its easy everything is noted, but as I get more comfortable I would like to start some of my own designs so know how to figure out the length of material needed would be extremely helpful. Love your work keep sharing
Awesome! Have fun creating :) Yeah, that's probably the most frequently asked question everybody has when it comes to macrame projects. And that's probably because it's not an easy one to answer...I have this topic as one of my future videos, it should be published in the next three weeks or so, I will share as many tips as I can give you guys ;)
Hi Barb, well, not exactly, it would be a bit more complicated than that because the length of each cord is made up of the length you need for the berry knots and the length you need for the fringe and those two are not increasing equally....You would basically be adding another set of 12 knots in the first row on the left side of this. So you would still have this pattern that I made with the initial 12 knots and so your berry knot length would stay the same for that initial set but your fringe length would need to be longer on all the cords. And then for the other 12 knots across your berry knot length would have to increase while the fringe length would be the same as it was for my pattern. Complicated 😅 I don't know how to write it so that it's more understandable. But maybe my video on measuring cord will help you ruclips.net/video/Eah8xMSfPyI/видео.html&lc=Ugz8omdFkCn2stsA3D14AaABAg
I’m new to macramé and I’m not a math person! So, What does this mean, 17, 7….18, 7ft so forth? In inches what does that equal, and is that the length of 1 cord or both?
So for example if you put 18,7 ft into an online converter it should give you 224,4 inches. This is the length of the cord you should be cutting. I hope this was at least a bit helpful...
Hi Asmita, so if I understand you correctly you want to do all the filler cords in one color and the berry knots in another? That is quite tricky to calculate as the berry knots are in the alternating pattern so every other knot would still be done by the base color. I would think you can cut the cords maybe about 30% shorter than what I have in the description. I hope that helps
Can I get clarification on measurements below. I read the first line as cut one to 18ft and second one at 7ft. Is that correct? So I actually have five 7ft cords at end and they all go on right side of dowel and so on. Seems like I maybe read it wrong
So both of the first two cords you should cut at 18,7 ft. (they will go on the very left side of the work), then the next two at 17,7 ft., the next at 16,7 and so on as in the description until the last two cords which will be at the very right you will cut at 7,9 ft. Did that help? I know these measurements can be tricky sometimes so feel free to ask further if needed.
@@annabaginova01 thank you! Now wonder i ran short on cord...I put all the long to left and all short to right, instead of pairing them up. Bummer. I may redo.
Right, the pair should always be two cords of the same length. Fingers crossed it will work out the second time! Or you may want to just add new cord onto the ones where you ran out. You can find videos how to do that on YT as well 😉
Glad you like it 🙂 You may have to click on "Show more" or something similar right underneath the video to expand the description to see everything. The cords here are all different measurements so it would be quite difficult to go through it in the video (plus I always know only at the very end if everything worked and what the exact lengths should be).
Well depends how thin they are. The thinest cord I've worked with was 1,5 mm and that's doable but I think that for a beginner it's easier to start with 4 or 5 mm cords 😉
I was using a 5 mm braided cord by the brand Bobbiny in the color Kiwi. Are you planning to create something similar? :) I have put all the lengths and measurements into the description box of the video so that can help you as well ;)
Great video… I know it’s over a year old. The cord you’re using looks great… unfortunately the cords you suggested aren’t as good as the one you seem to be using. Yours looks like it maintains its shape as far as the diameter of the braided cord looks. The ones you suggested come flattened, so it tends to twist as you braid the shape… it comes out ok, just doesn’t finish as well as yours for some reason. Yours looks perfectly round all the way through the length of the cord.
This turned into an absolute nightmare. I meticulously followed the measurements but was left with hardly any rope for the right hand side knots. I tried adding rope but it became a complete mess. The measurements are wrong!!
I love how this turned out and I’m looking forward to trying it 😊thanks again I just love your videos and how you explain everything

@@annabaginova01 thank you so much.. 🙏😊
Pls tell me how many meter u used?
What if we are using 3 mm 3 ply twisted cord
Hi there, for some reason the description box does not appear on my screen. Could you give me an approximate length for the cards? Thank you so much .
Hi, that's strange, you might need to click on "show more" or something like that to see the full description. All of the cords are different lengths so it would be best to follow those exact measurements.
Will this piece work with 14 cords? Thanks Anna
I know I am answering this kinda late so you may not need this information anymore but you can definitely do this with fewer or more cords, it just needs to be a number that you can divide by 2 😉
Where do I find description box to find lengths of cord?
I know I am answering this kinda late so you may have already found this but the description box is right underneath the video window. You will have to click on "show more" to expand it to see the full description 😉
If I wanted to use 3mm cord, how would I adjust the cord length? Maybe subtract 20%?
I think I saw some cord size conversions online but I can't find them now and I haven't done them myself. If you want to play it safe just use the same length 😉
If I use 4 mm cord do I just add 44% to each length
Hi Lisa, you don’t necessarily need to add anything to the length but your final piece will be slightly smaller than mine because of the thinner cords (very slightly, 5 mm vs 4 mm is a really small difference). What you could do is add another knot to the first row to make the final piece larger. If you do that that’s when you will need to cut your cords longer (about 20-30 cm for each berry knot you add to the top row). I hope that helps.
@@annabaginova01 thank you !
@@annabaginova01 I see, thank you very much for the info and link to your video, that I actually saw after commenting :)
You’re welcome! 🙂
hello! If I want to do this piece with 100 cm wide and 200 com long. How i can calculate the measure of cords. Thank you for inspiration
Hi Anna...if I wanted to double this to 24 knots across would I have to double length of the ropes? thank you
Hi Barb, well, not exactly, it would be a bit more complicated than that because the length of each cord is made up of the length you need for the berry knots and the length you need for the fringe and those two are not increasing equally....You would basically be adding another set of 12 knots in the first row on the left side of this.
Thanks for clarifying Anna. I watched your video and understand what you mean. I think I will stick with the original pattern. Can't wait to start!
Great tutorial, thank you so much. Do you happen to know the thickness of the dowel? Thank you kindly
Glad you liked it. I can't remember now, but it might be mentioned in the video description, if not my best guess is about 4 cm.
Yes I am going to try this. I am new at this so ….
Fingers crossed that your project goes well 😉 if you are on Instagram you can tag me there once you are finished, I would love to see your piece 😊
Aonde vc compra essa linha? Qual o nome?
I buy all of my cords from the brand Bobbiny and I can highly recommend those 😉
How much base thread to use if i making the berries of different colour???
Hi Asmita, so if I understand you correctly you want to do all the filler cords in one color and the berry knots in another? That is quite tricky to calculate as the berry knots are in the alternating pattern so every other knot would still be done by the base color. I would think you can cut the cords maybe about 30% shorter than what I have in the description. I hope that helps
Can I ask how thick the dowel your using is please
Sure, this one was 3 cm, so actually quite thick.
@@annabaginova01 perfect thank you so much
I would love to know how to do calculations!
Well it's a good thing I have a video for it then 😊 here you go ruclips.net/video/Eah8xMSfPyI/видео.html
You can find videos how to do that on YT as well 😉
@@annabaginova01 Hi - where are the videos to add cords?
I mean to add to an existing cord
Very nice tnx❤
I can't see the description box so I wish we could have been given the cord lengths verbally...I really like the wall hanging
Glad you like it 🙂 You may have to click on "Show more" or something similar right underneath the video to expand the description to see everything. The cords here are all different measurements so it would be quite difficult to go through it in the video (plus I always know only at the very end if everything worked and what the exact lengths should be).
Where do I find the description box please?
You should see that right underneath the video, you might need to open it up with the little dropdown arrow if you are on your phone…
I wanted to say this is my first time with macramé I’ve got how to do it but right now I have thin rope so I guess it won’t work with it thanks 🙃
Well depends how thin they are. The thinest cord I've worked with was 1,5 mm and that's doable but I think that for a beginner it's easier to start with 4 or 5 mm cords 😉
Belíssimo tutorial!
Ameiii!
👏👏👏👏👏👏😚😚😍
Obrigado :) I'm glad you liked it!
Bellissimo 😍🇮🇹
Thank you 😊
How thick is the dowel?
This one was actually pretty thick - 3 cm (1,2 in)
What thread u used say me
I was using a 5 mm braided cord by the brand Bobbiny in the color Kiwi. Are you planning to create something similar? :) I have put all the lengths and measurements into the description box of the video so that can help you as well ;)
Can you give me the length of your cords?
You can find the measurements in the video description box on all my tutorials 😉
Por favor, coloca legendas em português Brasil nos seus vídeos!!! Parabéns pelo seu trabalho!!
Thank you Luciana, I am not planning to add the subtitles yet, but if I do I will consider the Portuguese ones as well.
What happened with the smaller cords in between at the end? You must done something to make it even. That means your measurements were wrong….
Same here.. so many hours and it is so short 😢
👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼😍
Lindo👌👌👌👌👍👍👍👍👏👏👏👏💋
Thank you 😊
The measurements are not correct.
This turned into an absolute nightmare. I meticulously followed the measurements but was left with hardly any rope for the right hand side knots. I tried adding rope but it became a complete mess. The measurements are wrong!!
meu Deus ñ tem legenda em português 😢😭
Hi Vanuza, I am not considering adding subtitles yet but if I do Portuguese is very high on my list of languages to add.
