My goal is to play through this without having to use total concentration. I lose concentration for a second it could go wrong before the end of the song.I want to be relaxed and not have to concentrate as much and just jam on. Practice practice Keep on keeping on.Your the man. Thanks for sharing. For me this is extremely useful without making it through this basic beat I myself am not sure how one could be a drummer.👍
This is actually really invaluable. Should be an ongoing series for whenever you are short of video ideas, just do something like this.
I am a retired teacher, serving for 39 years in the elementary school. You, my friend, are a wonderful teacher. You have the God given ability to connect with and hold the attention of your audience. Thank you for your service.
My son said he isn’t confident about his playing.
He told me he learned drum solos and parts of songs.
I keep telling him that he needs to learn FULL songs and it will improve his confidence if he can play songs all the way through.
He is FRUSTRATING! His teacher said he has natural rhythm and “gets it,” but getting him to practice is like pulling teeth!
I wish he would learn full songs and make practice more entertaining, for him.
Has he tried drumming to drum less versions of songs he likes ? Has he tried to follow how his favorite drummer handles that song? That would give him a confidence boost
If you play an instrument too why not jam a song with your son, at the very least something you could sing along to together
This kind is a very rare lesson in the drum world. Never seen before. Great work man!
yeah had a ZZ top type of vibe.. heard that same drum part at least the frame work - I always respond immediately when I hear the bassline - way easier than constructing on paper for me.. thanks for your efforts Rob.
Mr Brown, you are by far the best teacher on RUclips... But not just this video, a lot of your older vids too. Your approach, the slower speeds for us that are learning. I'm subscribed and working through your older catalog. By far the best teacher for my 50 year old brain.
That was pretty cool.
Messed around a bit more with it and added some cymbals, twisted up the fill and threw in some cowbell
Watch James Brown, Stevie Wonder...those grooves don't change, they rock and they are awesome..it's hard not to overplay, it takes years to learn to play lotsa cool things, then you gotta learn not to play them. Thank you Rob!! I'm a guitar player who started playing drums 5 years ago, your lessons sure help me alot!
Awesome thanks for this you’re helping my 16 yr old become a drummer! And I’m enjoying learning as well!
Newbie drummer of 3 months with a yamaha dtx e kit. You are superb mate a fabulous instructor. Steve 56 from England .
Thanks much, Steve 👊🏾🤓 Shout out from Canada
Man that snare sound beautiful 🤓🥁👍🏼
Great sounding snare also the way he is hitting it, rest of kit also great.
crispy tight drumming.
Rob has got to be one of the coolest people on the planet.
Yes!!!!
Thanks, man 👊🏾🙂
Rob, you da Man !
So simple yet so helpful.
I love your content! I’ve been watching for a few years now on and off and you’re an awesome instructor THANK YOU FOR MAKING THESE‼️🙌🏽🤟🏽
Really like enjoy watching cool intro at all time, fun to watch inspire to learn. Thank you
Hi Rob , just started drumming again after forty years , it is a bit like riding a bike , retrieving my groove and all , but that was great and not at all boring , love your channel , keep it up .
Exactly the lesson I need. Thanks Rob, I appreciate all you do. Peace.
I’ve been hittin the cans for 35 years and your the first drummer that has explained this in a language we can all understand. We all think it as drummers but it’s hard to explain. You nailed it!
I did the same groove as you but I added some 16ths on the hats 2nd time around in chorus just for shits and fills! Love your vids!
This is the best advice i have ever heard and learnt thAnk you
I enjoyed that one - gives me hope 😊
Rob you give us new drummers so much hope and tools for our drumming toolbox
Thank you Rob 👍
Straight from the Method.
Thank you, Rob ! :D
Thank you Rob i appreciate you
Happy Friday
Great stuff as always, Rob! I learn something new every time I tune in to your RUclips channel. Keep up the great work! Rock on!
Great video! Your content is always useful. I’ve only been playing for a few months on a cheap e-kit at home but it’s a start. I have the basic 8th notes down but my struggle lies with figuring out mentally how many bars have passed. I can kind of “feel” when 4 bars have gone by but I lose my place when 12 or 16 bars have passed. I wonder what other drummers think about when playing? I’ve tried counting in my head 1,2,3,4 2,2,3,4 but always get lost after awhile. Hitting the actual drums doesn’t seem to be my problem (after all, like Rob said in other videos, it’s all color-just focus on the subdivisions) my struggle is what to think about. Regardless, I’m having fun on my journey and that’s all that matters to me.
Great to see you doing some more drumming essentials content, Rob. Also, as an aside, quit showing me cool stuff to spend money on! I was noodling along to this on my practice pad with a pair of Promark broomsticks I "randomly" decided to buy last week... 😂 Keep on doing the good work, brother.
This is great! I'd be down for more of this!
You're such a good teacher! Thank you
Awesome 👏🏻
Great to jam to, great stuff
Hey I just noticed congratulations on 250K🍺🎉
Thank you this is so helpful
That is KICK-ASS!!
Rob a great lesson as always. I usually note the BPM of the song as well. If need be I can just use my metronome to practice at the BPM before playing with the song. For instance when you were counting down the song on your playthrough the quarter note was a lot slower than I initially heard. Lastly Drumeo has a neat form where you list say the Intro and # of bars, verse and # of bars, chorus and # of bars back to verse and then say outro. You can do this on a sheet of paper too. Keep up your great work Rob. Bill.
Congrats on the big 250 Rob! I hope you reach ‘n teach a million
Thanks, man 🥳
Nice. Always wanted to know the logic behind it coming up with a part for a song. I couldn't help myself though, threw in many more fills in the chorus and some tricks in the verse
This was very awesome. Cheers, Rob! ✌️🥁
Why do you choose the specific layout of your cymbals? Is it related to proximity to other cymbals or drums? Why do you have the splash over the toms?
Cool video like always 👍💯🙏
Absolutely LOVE this guy!
Rob, You are AWESOME! I'm 53, played trumpet in the school band. Fast forward 30-40 years and my 20 yr old daughter is lead singer in her band. I bought a maple Mapex set for her and she ended up playing guitar. I want to play just one song with her band. You are a godsend man! And your vids make me make time to sit down and play. This one REALLY HELPED. Just reading the other comments, you are helping so many. I can't thank you enough for taking out time to do vids. I'll let you know when I finally get to be the noisy kid in the back keeping the beat.
MY daughter's name is Macy Addis. Search her name on RUclips if you get a chance. She has a ton of songs out there. Patiently Waiting is the title of one of her originals. Lot of beat/rhythm changes but a pretty cool song. Thank you again for all you do. So freakin awesome!
Bryan
Killing it as usual dude 👍when will you do a clinic in Ireland ???
👌... Thanx.. 👍
Nice pocket!
Feel like I just found a new friend, Hi Rob ;-) Subbed !
Nice. I prefer your 1/8th note version to the 1/4 note version that was in Jared's lesson.
Though this was quite easy for me, some very good tips in there, great work!
Rob, where did you get those lights on the tripod behind you. I WANT!
Thanx, Bill
This is not my first song to be honest. But dude, this track is SICK! Even if you're more advanced drummer, you should constantly improve your pocket. Thanks for this one, Rob🤘
OMG!!!! I did it! Hahahaha this is AWESOME
Noice! 🤓👍🏾
Thanks as always u da ma'am 👍 thanks no
This sounds like one of the grooves in my Yamaha DTX430K. Thanks for the video Rob, gonna try this out tonight!
I have a dtx 432 mate. Steve from England. Newbie of 3 months.
@@stephenvenables3179 Same...newbie about 3 months but had a lot of exposure from high school and college. No formal lessons but my buddy showed me the 1/8 signature.
@@fsubulldog03 I have had 3 lessons so far, I have one a month.
In a 2019 video, you showed how to develop the weak hand. Can I use the traditional grip while practicing that method?
What happened the great sounding set of mics that came in a snazzy case?
Rob, you might want to alter the first line of the transcription of this one...oops! :O ;)
Another great lesson. I always feel ever more confident after watching your vids. Thank you.
Awesome content as always
Im sorry to be off topic, but this seems to be a great community of drummers, so can anyone suggest some free music software that will enable me to cut a song into sections so I can work on the different parts individually? I love all kinds of music, but I just love playing metal music and stuff like lamb of god would be easier to work on with loops of each section. If anyone can help it would be much appreciated. Oh and be careful putting to much funk on the Djent beats! 😁
❤aku ingin sekali belajar drum, meskipun aku sdh tua 😂🎉😅
Wait...is that easy rock from Drumeo? I know I've heard this before and I'm pretty sure I'm right.
Edit: Ha! Knew it lol
??? Have you seen an iPad holder that attaches to the drums ???
Oh this is GREAT! Thanks!
Hey Master Brown, (or any other drummer actually.) Question on your audio set up. First what I have, my computer is plugged into a big outdoor style speaker, but it's still not quite loud enough to hear over my drums. So playing along with stuff goes wanky when I cannot hear it clear enough. I can put my ipod on with headphones, but then no one else can hear what I'm hearing. I see you wear earphones and am guessing you have audio of what you are listening to right in your ears as well as through the speakers. HOW do you do that? Is it just a simple matter of some kind of jack? I have yet to figure out how to get sound out of the speaker AND into my ear at the same time.
I doubt that he is playing anything through the speakers when he is recording. It is probably just in his earphones/ in ear monitors. If he was playing anything over the speakers all the mics on the kit would be picking it up. People try to avoid that sort of thing (bleed) when recording because it makes it hard to mix the recording.
@@greganderson3096 I see. Ok, well I'm not recording anything. I just need a way to hear the music over my drums without blasting the walls down.
@@artmakersworlds You should be able to get some sort of splitter cable so you can listen through your headphones and the speakers.
@@greganderson3096 Yea I need to figure something out. Tried playing along with this but as usual, gets to a point I can't quite hear the music. Thanks.
