  • Welcome to Amazing Europe! In today's video, we delve into the comprehensive ranking of all European countries from worst to best, as determined by the Legatum Institute. This ranking takes into account 12 different factors including security, health, economy, infrastructure, and education. We've also included transcontinental states and those that identify socio-culturally as European, but excluded the 5 microstates as they are not part of the Legatum Institute's ranking. We can't wait to hear your thoughts! Enjoy the journey as we unveil Europe's diverse landscape, from its lowest to its highest ranked nations.
Welcome to this new video titled: "Europe Unveiled: Ranking ALL European Countries From Worst to Best".
IMPORTANT NOTE: The Legatum Institute's Prosperity Index does not include microstates and Kosovo. The reason they gave for this choice is the following: "due primarily to their small size (in terms of population)".
These are the 12 categories considered by the Legatum Institute: Safety & Security, Personal Freedom, Governance, Social Capital, Investment Environment, Enterprise Conditions, Infrastructure & Market Access, Economic Quality, Living Conditions, Health, Education, Natural Environment. Each category is further divided into many subcategories. If you want to know the complete list (which includes all the nations of the world), you can find it here: www.prosperity.com/rankings

This is a Eurocentric view of the world. If there are high taxes and a regimented society with a lot of governmental control, as it is typical of the Nordic countries, including Germany, France, etc., then you cannot say that the citizens enjoy a lot of freedom. Usually enjoying individual freedom means that the government is not breathing so heavily on your shoulders,

Hi! We want to clarify that this list is not based on our opinion (and in fact, we disagree with some of it ourselves), but on the Legatum Institute's. However, we do not think it is based on prejudice, but on the analysis that this Institute has done, which has analyzed various countries taking into account data classifiable in 12 categories. These are the 12 categories considered by the Legatum Institute: Safety & Security, Personal Freedom, Governance, Social Capital, Investment Environment, Enterprise Conditions, Infrastructure & Market Access, Economic Quality, Living Conditions, Health, Education, Natural Environment. KOSOVO! -- Where is the Albanian Republic of Kosova on this list? Kosovo is recognized by Germany, UK, France, Ireland, Poland, Czechia, Austria, Albania, Sweden, Norway, Italy, Turkey, Slovenia, North Macedonia, Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary, Switzerland, Denmark, Croatia, Montenegro and the list goes on and on and on ... yet it is not listed here! Ugh. Why?

Hi! You are absolutely right, in fact we also noticed this lack and we had written it in the description of the video. The motivation that the Legatum Institute gave for not including some countries (like Kosovo) was that they are small and with few inhabitants. It is not up to Amazing Europe to judge their choice, but it may be that the real motivation is to avoid creating problems with nations that do not yet recognize it. But it may be that we are wrong and that there are other reasons 🤷🏻‍♂️ Have a nice day!

Kosovo's Albanian population (close to 2 million in Kosovo itself & another 2 to 3 Million Kosovo-Albanians who have immigrated out of Kosovo for various of reason around the world since Kosovo broke away from Yugoslavia) is larger than let's say: Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg or Estonia. How can 5-6 countries in Europe who do not recognize Kosovo have more say than the overwhelming countries in Europe who do recognize Kosovo like Europe's most powerful countries of Germany, UK & France? The ranking criteria seem relatively objective to me, with the exception of the climate which is important to me: I don't like the cold and obviously, that would lower the position of the Scandinavian countries.
I don't know if the issue of insecurity is the main criterion that brings down my country, France, I have the impression that this problem is very localized in certain regions of the country (not where I live). Above all, these are problems of governance, social cohesion and increasingly individual freedoms (notably freedom of the press threatened by private monopolies) which are weakening France.

It's a pretty accurate ranking, I think. Exept I would swap the places of Sweden and Norway on the list. I can't think of one thing better in Sweden than in Norway, maybe exept the hockey team and cheaper beer. We have thousands of work immigrants from Sweden, taking all the low paid jobs Norwegians won't do. And the crime in Sweden is terrible compared to Norway. We have much better nature, and we also have the freedom to roam laws mentioned for Sweden in the video. Denmark I can agree on, it's pretty good.

Pardon my rudeness, but if you ask me, I'd call this sort of ranking next to completely pointless waste of time. In fact I'd be shocked to see anyone taking it seriously. Can you actually assign a meaningful weight to the different categories of the important factors? I have nothing against Iceland, but ranking a frozen country of a few hundred thousands inhabitants and a rather unpleasant climate with limited fauna and flora as one of the best in Europe, something you seemingly base on the low crime rate and a few natural hot pools, seems to me almost comical...

It is one indicator that has not been used, it is the currency exchange rate change for the last 20 years why?? At least it shows how people globally judge each country's evolution favorably or unfavorably. The introduction of the Euro in 2001 created a huge market distortion where some countries were beneficiaries and others were losers!!! Accordingly, we have seen the countries that kept their currencies have been judged much more realistically. The UK has dropped the most for the last 20 years at more than 30% and the Swiss franc has appreciated by more than 30% versus the Euro!!!!!!!!
