Tourists have to be the dumbest people on the move. The way some of them act makes one wonder who raises these heathens. They disobey rules, show entitlement and are just plain stupid. They should either stay home or learn how not to be idiotic jackasses.

It is not the tourists fault, it is the greedy people within the industry, who try to make as much money as possible! And also the behavior of the people nowadays, rude, selfish, uncaring etc…. If we were nicer and more caretaking, it would be way better

I feel your pain. I live in Las Vegas. 5 generations here, and I barley recognize my City. People moving here by the thousands, property values going up. The Corporations have taken over and it's no longer safe as it used to be. We've had Tourists damage our National Parks. Just recently Tourists were caught breaking loose Huge Boulders, in Red Rock Canyon as well as Graffiti. Look up Red Rock Canyon. It's beautiful with huge natural rock formations. Garbage by the Truck Loads as well as abandoned Vehicles/ Trailor homes by Lake Mead. Not to mention we live in the Desert our water supply has become an issue as well. It's Heart Breaking.

I just finished watching the video. The cities you have exposed to us fall into a number of different categories, which I would first create by city size. Some large cities have many areas that are not really touched that much by tourism. So if you live in a touristy area of say Paris, this is a huge problem. But there are huge parts of Paris, away from the landmarks that foreigners want to see, that remain pretty well unscathed. I suspect the same would apply in Rome and Athens. At the other extreme would be tiny Hallstatt (and also Santorini and Dubrovnik) where it is hard to escape the presence of all those tourists. Venice, although larger, would unfortunately fall into the same kind of problem, I imagine that if you live in parts of Rome and Athens and even Amsterdam (and possibly Barcelona ?) that are well away from what the tourists are looking for, life can be more or less normal. I was somewhat disappointed that you signaled out Iceland as your number ten, because there many areas are not really that are not that touched by tourism. Other cities you might have considered are Bergen and Lisbon, but even these two are very different in size. It's only a small part of Bergen that is invaded by folks getting off cruise ships. I hear that some southern resort areas in Turkey have been invaded by Russians. Speaking of Turkey, how is Istanbul doing ? I was there in July over forty years ago and I just melted into the local population. That's the way I like to visit places, no matter where I am, and that is why I now like Europe in late September and early October. I think that Venice is on the right track if it completely bans those gigantic and ugly cruise ships/floating hotels. There has to be a way for cities make it financially unattractive for speculators to buy up properties in order to convert them into short term bnbs. A final thought and question: You did not list London. Is that because you feel that over-tourism is not a problem ? Is it because they have enacted policies to keep it under control ?

Majorca is like an enclave of Bavaria. Krakow is over visited and there are many better cities in Poland such as Wroclaw. Prague is another. St giamano in Italy.These places are far too rich and expensive and have lost any real working people almost perfect no litter stray dogs etc. I like a bit of edge to my cities such as Hong Kong or Bangkok I dont want to pay 20 euros for a couple of pieces of cake and coffee

I just read the Patti smith book, she visited jim Morrisons grave in 1974. She meets the woman who is looking after the graveyard , who complains to her sbout how thoughtless tourists are concerning the graffiti people write.! It seems they were the only ones in the graveyard. Can you imagine the scene in 2024. You probably need to queue for a ticket to get in the graveyard for a start, then traverse the fucking tourists that are taking selfies.

I'm 76 and first traveled to Europe over 50 years ago and it wasn't nearly as crowded as it is now and cheaper, even though for back then it was still very expensive, but cleaner! Beautiful Paris was so clean you could eat off the streets and yes, the French were rude to Americans even back then! The cruise ships today are humongous and ugly, imho! They're not the sleek elegant cruise ships prior to the 1980s! They're no longer "floating palaces/hotels", but "floating Petri dishes" and like huge buildings just so they can pack more people in like a can of sardines all for the money/greed of course! Unfortunately, many tourists today are slobs and have no respect for public property! We were raised to not deface public property and dress appropriately when traveling! The French hate the way Americans dress when they come to Paris, with sloppy clothing, torn jeans, sweat pants and dirty sneakers! "When in Rome, do as the Romans do"...old saying from the 1700s! Lisbon not being on the list is a travesty. The government is making the city exclusively for tourists and doesn’t think a single second about the locals. And all the money they make from tourism, they reinvest it into tourism making it impossible for locals to live in the city and making the infrastructure outside of the tourist areas a hell.
