I missed out on a used MK II 10" for $300 a few years back. Recently picked up a new MK IV 10" for $500, very happy with it. I even named it "Pinocchio" due to the long barrel. 😁
That’s a great name for these, Pinocchio! Those Mark II’s definitely came down in price once the Mark IV’s came out but they’ll never see $300 again, that’s for sure. Something about the original engineering and the challenge of disassembly that’s just fun for me on the old ones.
I got a Mark IV 10in, and it came busted beyond belief, would fire twice, jam. Fire twice, jam. FINALLY after two years, I decided to send it back. Was a huge oversight on Ruger's part, since I bought it new. They were super cool about it, fixed it, and sent it back. The thing shoots like a champ now, copper, lead soft tip, whatever. LOVE IT. It makes me feel like I'm a sharp shooter until I grab my 9s and then get brought back down to earth.
LOVE MINE! Great gun, interchangeable barrel, FABULOUS!! Accurate as heck. I l replaced end sight and grip and will forever keep it. Mark IV is so easy to take apart, to clean...
Awesome video, love seeing the Mark II unboxing and original ad as well, my older brother was given a Mark II by my grandfather when we were kids, lots of grouse, rabbits, and squirrels hunted and eaten by both of us using that pistol. I always wanted one of the Ruger Mark pistols and was planning on getting a Mark III, but couldn't afford it at the time, glad I waited until the Mark IV came out for the ease of dissasembly!
on both of my Ruger MKII 10" pistols (Blued / Stainless) I have the grip that comes up and over the pistol for a scope. Really love the 10" pistols. Hoping to get the MKIV versions some day. So much fun to shoot.
You have all the 10" lol! Damn cannot find one in California at all and if I do it's well over $1k in price do to our dumb roster! Beautiful and dead accurate pistols! Will forever be my favorite!
Fun video. You mentioned no difference in accuracy with a shorter barrel version. What about the velocity of the round? I think there will be more speed and possibly greater impact of the shot..
As thorough as you were while describing the variations among all of these models, you didn't mention that the Mark I and II (don't know about the III) Target models have a Patridge style undercut front sight blade. It was apparently designed by some guy named Patridge (not Partridge as many call it, that's the bird in a pear tree that we sing about at Xmas, LOL) to shade the blade from glare in the sunlight, making it better for target shooting. I took your 1950 MSRP of $37.50 for the Standard and extrapolated it to 2024 and the equivalent cost would be $489.00. That doesn't sound like such a deal today, but it would be, since the 4.75" Standard is listed as $569.00 MSRP today on Ruger's website. The moral of the story, buy good guns cheap when and while you can get 'em!
I have a 1987 Ruger Mark two 10-inch bull barrel I could see myself buying the Ruger Mark 4 10 inch everything is great on them except the magazine disconnect but I guess that can be converted thank you for your video you did great job on the review
I bought a blue and stainless last production run drilled and tapped 10" , I bought a blue and stainless mkiv 10" , all N.I.B. , those stay in the safe , I have a blue 10" mkii as my shooter , fun to shoot , I have a mkii 6 7/8ths blue heavy tapered target I've put over 250,000 rounds through over the past 40 years , it shoots just as good now as it did when I got it , the mark series is my favorite , for down and dirty dependability and longevity my choice is Ruger , other brands are nice and pretty and functional , but I don't believe will stand up to the abuse I put them through . Very nice examples you have big man , 2 thumbs up .
People get messed up on the mainspring reassembly on the older ones. Some are really tight and take a bit of banging with a rubber hammer. I love the challenge and have been tempted to run an ad asking for the ones that people just gave up on. I’ll bet there are more than a few out there in boxes/bags. I recently learned how to tighten up the ones where the barrel goes on too loose. Such fun pistols.
I have a Mark LL and you're right, it's not difficult to field strip and reassemble IF YOU FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS! A lot of people don't.. Plus slot of people bought these used and the instructions were lost at some point before they got it.
Glad you guys are both finding them in Stainless now. They are heavier but fantastic to maintain. It's amazing what a little touch with the gray Scotchbrite pad will do to help keep a stainless gun looking new.
Just ordered a 10 inch mark IV. I had been trying to find a 10 inch Mark II, but the prices were ridiculous. Now, I am sure those 10 inch Mark II's will drop in price now that the 10 inch IV is available.
Yes, the 10" Mark II's had really started to rise. They did seem to drop a couple hundred with the Mark IV coming out but now it seems they are going back up. They don't make more of them so collectors will still buy them.
@@tomdgunnery8360 I just picked up mine this week, added a Volquartsen trigger, could not be happier. I used a Mark II 10 inch back in my much younger days to take a few first places in competition. It was my dad's pistol. Alas, for whatever reason, he had a gunsmith cut the barrel down to 6 inches. Been looking for one for years, then Ruger makes the Mark IV 10 and I had to have it. I guess we can recapture our youth!
As far as I know, all of the Mark IV barrels are interchangeable with other Mark IV barrels. I've bought a few extra barrels that were new take-offs from Volquartsen and everything fits great. Ruger did a great job on these.
Thanks for your feedback. I have exchanged Mark IV barrels with other MarkIV’s with no problem. Not sure about crossing a MarkIV with a 22/45 version though as I’ve never tried that. Enjoy! You can’t go wrong with any Ruger Mark pistol. Always great shooters.
I thought the same thing until I bought one with a scope already on it. With my aging eyes, it's a hoot to shoot out to 100 yards plus. May not be practical but it sure is fun!
Yes, that’s too bad as the smooth stainless finish is so easy to maintain. Oh well, there Ruger Mark guns last forever and are such amazing shooters. Love them all!
I got a Ruger Mk 4 Target (the 5.5" version) Stainless and ordered the Volquartsen LLV 6 ", the Volquartsen Competition Bolt and the Volquartsen Accurizing Kit. Just need to pick the stuff up. I want to go on using the 5.5 Target as my iron sight option and the LLV with a reddot (probably C-More Railway). And I'm thinking about the 10" Target with a pistol scope - probably UTG 2-7/32. As a mere "fun gun". I'm also about to order the Volguartsen Laminated Grip in red. It's just a pitty that a lot of the stuff is rather hard to get since I'm situated in Europe. Not from a legality standpoint but almost everything has to be imported from the US and not everything is listed eg. by Brownells in Europe (eg. the red Laminated Grip only can be acquired via a special order that's extra expensive ;-). Of course the whole importing issue drives up prices in general. While the MSRP of the 10" Stainless is 719$ in the US, it's 1120€ here...which is about 1355$ ;-). So my LLV Frankenstein Mk4 will be about 3000$...before adding the reddot... ;-)
Yes, Ruger got right on this one. According to their safety bulletin, the recall affects those Mark IV with serial numbers starting with 401 or WBR. They say that the new ones which start with serial number 5 or later are not a part of the recall. Read the bulletin if you have any concerns. Ruger customer service is excellent to deal with. Thanks for pointing this out, DrK!
you are the only one who shows all the diferences between many model in 10"...thank you for that, very informative

No manufacturing can ever be perfect. Ruger has some of the best customer service.

This was a very well done video. I really like the look of the blued over the stainless steel.

Many thanks for the reply! Great guns to collect.
Great video. Awesome job. I think I’ll buy this gun now. Would it be good for squirrel hunting. Always wanted to try to use a pistol?

Thanks Tom! Always great to connect to a Ruger fan. Mr Ruger really made something special with the Mark pistols. Enjoy!
I bought a mkii years ago and was intrigued by the takedown, however it really wasn't that bad. I think people are just lazy.

I just ordered the stainless model today. I...can't....wait.
Awesome. That was my first choice but I got impatient waiting for them to show up. So much easier to keep looking new. Enjoy!
Awesome. Need to find a stainless one. I have 2 Mk2 10" SS.
The Mark II’s are still my favorites but then I enjoy taking them apart. Some just hate that.
Wish to buy this and try it
A truly next gen welrod lol.
Now you got me wanting a 10in lol
The mark 4 has a thicker barrel jt seems.
Awesome video! Good content! Just bought a 10” ss mkiv! Can’t wait until it comes in
me too. Sold out almost everywhere. I found one online in Texas.

They're accurate, just a lil' low on the capacity and heavy.
Yes, they are a handful. But so accurate. Fun to lay on a sandbag and see how far you can make a cloverleaf.
10 shot comply s for Internationale buyers that help make ur gun cheaper
Very awesome beautiful guns
Can the 10" barrel fit onto the regular Mark IV ?
As far as I know, all of the Mark IV barrels are interchangeable with other Mark IV barrels. I've bought a few extra barrels that were new take-offs from Volquartsen and everything fits great. Ruger did a great job on these.
I have a never fired new in the box Mark III stainless bull barrel six inch. I am thinking about selling it.
Sold? You in California??? Lol
Are the barrels interchangeable?

Got one just like this one, it’s a tack driver.
They are scary accurate. So fun!
The only reason for a 10 inch barrel is sight radius. It makes no sense to put a scope on a 10 inch barrelled Mark series (in my opinion).
I thought the same thing until I bought one with a scope already on it. With my aging eyes, it's a hoot to shoot out to 100 yards plus. May not be practical but it sure is fun!

@@tomdgunnery8360 thanks, I just bought one, need to pick it up at my gun shop once it arrives. So it will probably need the recall modification.
Congratulations! Enjoy.
The problem was solved before the 10" version was even released...
