YOU DON’T WANNA END UP HERE! - SwT 191 - BALI THE ISLAND OF GODS

  • Bali is the island of Gods, and maybe more spiritual than most first-time visitors know. Visiting a new country with different cultures, religions, and traditions can sometimes be quite a challenge. In this video, I am sharing how I succeed in making friends despite huge differences in culture and background. Bali is a Hindu-dominated Island, still, it belongs to Indonesia a Muslim nation. Even though the Island of Gods is extremely friendly and welcoming towards tourists, it is easy to misbehave and act disrespectful especially because the party factor is so high. This might mislead you to forget about their heritage and spiritual traditions. I always try to learn and understand my destination's culture and even pick up some of their language to show respect and genuine interest in the nation I visit. This enables me to easier make friends wherever I go, no matter the differences in religion or culture.

    ABOUT THIS CHANNEL:
I'm a sailor with a RUclips channel and not a RUclipsr. Sailing around the world in a Bavaria 55 Cruiser mostly solo, making videos whenever we have time for it.
Comfortable at sea with 4 decades of sailing experience and hundreds of thousands of miles behind me.
Even though this is season 6 on RUclips I did not make that many videos in the beginning, and obviously not from my entire sailing life. Before full-time sailing 6 years ago, I sailed several seasons in the Mediterranean, and obviously also in Scandinavia. I had my first sailboat at age 7 and have been sailing and racing ever since. Also, more than 10 years of experience as a captain in Search and Rescue at sea in Norway.

Very nice Thomas. Glad to see you, Alisia and Brian getting to enjoy some of the cultural sites of Bali. As you say, being open to learning about a regions culture, people and language is the key to making friends in a new country. Keep up the great videos my friend!🙂

Thank you so much my friend! It is a very obvious way to approach a new country but so easy to not prioritize or even to forget. But investing in this few things will make such big difference in the experience. All the best

I visited Bali about 30 years ago. It was very beautiful but I don't remember it as a very tourist place then. Although, there were many Aussies in the bars at night.

Hi Thomas, Alisia and Brian, you’re probably find out it is free for the locals and for tourist do you have to pay when I went to Zambia we went down to the Victoria Falls. My wife is it Zambian got in for free but I had to pay US$20, but when they found out we were married and we were on the honeymoon they let us in for free but I was happy to pay when I didn’t want to get anyone in trouble Bali is a wonderful place, but unfortunately the tourists go there and they do not respect the local culture I like to UBak in the middle of Bali. It is so picturesque and you will see the monkeys that have a bath every day

It is for sure a business around tourism wherever you go. At least here they are super friendly! If you tell them you are local and have been here for a while you normally get the local price on things. A bit tiring now and then, but we are so lucky to be aloud to visit their island anyway. All the best
