@storybydanehev This is absolutely wild. I've discovered the bar just next to this (General Lee's) by accident in dec 2019. It's so crazy you guys made a documentary about it! My video in the review of this place now has 40k views on Google. I'm baffled & very happy at the same time! On all of Gili T, i believe this location touched me the most. Away from all the hussle & bustle of the island. Wow! (name on Google is "Wim De Groote" if you'd like to see the video :) )
Very touching and great story! This has inspired me to keep faith and keep doing what I’m doing until I reach success! Sending love ❤️ and blessings from Jamaica 🇯🇲
This is a beautiful documentary. I fell in love with Bali years ago when I travelled and went to Nusa Penida. I thought I would live there and every year I thought about it. It hasn't happened yet! But listening to Martin speak honestly about the ups/downs of building a dream is similar to what I'm doing now with a boat renovation. There are weeks you really question your life, your decisions, exactly as he says, and don't so much enjoy the journey at the time. It takes time and space to evolve to appreciate the journey, and you have to appreciate the bad and good parts. Thank you for sharing this, and please keep up the good work. Send my appreciation to Martin for being strong 💪
The little bits of footage martin captured and the way you incorporated it in to this documentary is truly amazing!! Aspire to be and live like Martin!!
Very well made and inspiring! Thanks for giving Martin the recognition he so much deserves. I'm amazed by his resilience and perseverance and as his friend can only hope some of it rubs off on me because we should all aspire to a little bit more like Martin, who not only created what he set out to do but did so with his own sweat and tears and by learning the language fully and respecting the country and its people more than any other expat I've met.
Great fucking story! Congrats on the achievement. Reminds me of a kid I went to high school with named Brian Kelly. He up and moved to Bali and made a life.
usually, i'm always skeptical about foreigners making videos about something in Indonesia, but i really appreciate this one. i respect the effort he made and how he try to blend in with the locals. very enjoyed watching this video, great documentary.
Great documentary. This is the reality of making any worthy dream come true. Its hard and it comes with years of no guarantee anything is going to work out. Why? That way if your dream does come true it has meaning. You know how much went into it. And you're accustomed to not knowing how in gods name you're going to survive. You just keep going. Martin, you're a proper entrepreneur and I am sure you would be a great mentor. Best of luck to you!
A joy to get to know Martin's story. Very good presentation. Excellent in the sense that I now feel somehow connected. Please continue to show persons with such perserverance and gratitute. These are lives well lived. Think of it, someone arrives in a small village in Bali. Gains the vision to build. The vision completed by the village, and now he is releasing it to them - in the sense that they have a well run resort. How many travelors woud love to visit! Easy to understand the joy and appreciation of all involved.
Loved the peace that this guy breathes. Thanks for making this film about his increadible journey. Your family will come, enjoy it. Its the best thing in live.
This was enjoyable. I feel like a mini tour of the finished resort was missing, to see what he actually built. There were glimpses, but it left me wanting to see more.
Great documentary Robin, thanks for sharing your story Martin. You’re a proper sound guy and deserve all the good things coming you way, be at peace and enjoy the rest of your time in Lost Paradise!
@@storybydanehav No, not at all, I nearly lost my life a few times trying to follow up with my dad's estate, I got defrauded by my family, and disowned. I got a dog out of the deal and so we've been pals ever since. I can appreciate that someone worked themselves nearly to death trying to process the pain, the neat thing in this case is that he has something to show for it; and isn't like the rest of us, just treading water.
Wow that's a really sad story with people taking advantage of a bad situation. For me it's been 17 years and I didn't have anyone (professional) to talk to either when it happened. I guess it took me some 15 years to figure out what I want to do in life, and possibly because this process was in the way. The dog is a good thing though.
@@storybydanehav The silver lining to my story is that a bunch of toxic relatives showed their real colors and are no longer in my life. The flip side is that I struggle with PTSD, and have trust issues and generally feel like I'm around people but not ever with people. I'd be really great to make a support group were guys can just state the obvious, in the safety of the group.
Tack 🙏♥ What a wonderful story. Got a little teary-eyed at the end. A fantastically inspiring journey and wise words to others around the world. We can all choose to step outside the boxed and square life that we have been brought up into. Thanks 🙏♥
This is God's country , humble, simple, honest, the characteristics of what humans attain. I can really relate to Martin on his own solo path, and Robin who can see and connect in a way to truly observe Martins inner world. Following my own 15 year inner journey.... Thanks for sharing this journey 🙏 😊
incredible. inspiring story and very well documented. would have been fun to get a part 2 on this documentary in 10 years or something like that. Thanks for the inspiration and good luck with everything!❤
I can relate so much to this guy! I’m currently working on a beach cottage myself and having my struggles, it’s the reason why I’m staying out of a relationship until my beach villa is done.
Beautiful documentary and idea to do more of them to inspire people, this has inspired me. Thank you Robin. And Martin is a beautiful human 💖💖 thank you to both of you
Ah Gili T, last time I was there was in 2005 it must have changed a lot. This is called discipline, sticking to the plan no matter what. I can only admire it. I can only tell you from a deep knowing and experience that our loved ones are within us and know what we have done. Once we pass on we transform, our spirit leaving the fleshbody so it can feed Mother Earth and recycle, the spirit freed. They know, when you talk or just feel the sensations of your surroundings, all our loved ones and loved beings are around us and KNOW what we do in our lives
What a great inspiring and touching story and achievement. It must have been an incredibly difficult journey. Great documentary and thank you for sharing 🍀
Losing a father unexpectedly is turned my world too everything is kinda flat. I think we missed so badly our father five stars attention. I still trying to escape from the feeling. God bless us men who lost a great father!
I know exactly what you mean with everything turning flat. Like nothing really matters anymore. Grieving properly is so important and still something almost noone is taught until we have to figure it out... Time makes it easier to cope with, but the wounds never go away. I wish you all the best on your journey
This story really inspired me ❤ tq for sharing this story with us, much appreciated. Martin is rare gem in bali, he is apart of the tourism development
The storytelling, thoughtfulness, determination…loved everything about this. Lost my mom around the time he did his dad and ended up trying to ride a motorcycle across as many countries as I could.. This hit deep, all the best on your journeys 🫡

Brilliant!!! Saving this location on my bucket list. Well done on the video and even better on Martin for pushing through and reaching goals by working hard, you are a BIG inspiration to work hard on my own dreams. Robin thank you for sharing the video it is well presented!!❤
I'm on almost a similar journey.. in my fifth yr...created a unit to process my tea..a garden with tea..and building houses from.natural materials plentiful in my area but slowly dying ..sometimes it's tedious, boring and very discouraging...as u don't see the result soon..but it's a process..u cannot speed it up..u have to enjoy the pace..and will eventually find joy in things, what most would find inane..
Mate! If I could have more kids I'd be booking my ticket! I'm sure you'll have no problem finding someone to love you, sadness and all. 😊 Thank you for the inspiration. I gave up my dream of building, (illness, abuse, raising children etc) but perhaps it would be easier in another country (because Australia has strict codes and councils that make little to no allowances for alternative building). Perhaps I'll try again. Thank you for the film 😊
Bangga sekali !! Martin sangat menginspirasi ! Sukses terus ya Martin! Terima kasih Robin, dokumentari yang sangat menyentuh dan bagus sekali! Sangat detail
Amazing achievement, what a legend Martin is. How he embraced the culture, language, the locals. Pure spirit 😊 ..Let's also acknowledge the privilege that men have to be able to dedicate their entire focus of their 20s and 30s to working and building something, and still be able to start a family in their 40s and 50s. Women don't have this opportunity due to biology
Wow, what a story, big respect for your patience and resilience!! 🙌 Very inspiring. You are so courageous..🐍in your first house 😬💪💪thanks for sharing. Blessings and @Robin this is a such a high quality documentary! Excellent!
Norweeds are such brave sensitive souls and look at her beautiful hair and precious smile...Gods grace be upon you sweet and gentle norweed, may your nightly plumes of weed bring you deep and sordid dreams!
you would have to be smoking wacky tobaccee to make those longterm life decision...the weed addiction made you a genius, especially since no foreigner may own land there, so you must be leasing it. Cool story bro
You look familiar Martin, not sure if I met you before in BKK. What a great story! Cheers to what you have done! I opened a hostel in BKK 9 years ago now I'm building a farmstay in my hometown in the south. Some days I reached the point where I wanted to give up but I have to dream about the day when it's all done to drive me forward. Salute to you!! 👏👏👏
Love the journey of martin stories. And you make it so interesting sir 🙌🏻, like a short movie, add on some real footage when himself to face heavy situation, almost give up, but not the end finally he made it happen.
I enjoyed this, thank you. I would have liked to see more of a "tour" though. It was difficult to follow how the building progressed into what it is now.
Thank you for your comment! Who knows, there might be a tour coming up in the future? :) I felt like that wouldnt really contribute to the story since it would become more of a MTV cribs vibe than what I wanted to create :)
What a great film! I’m also living in Gili Trawangan and in process of building villas here. It sure does require a unique logistical journey hehe! What a lovely and inspiring story from Martin. Hope to cross paths some time. We also have a music studio here so maybe he will enjoy to visit our place so it’s not only work time on Gili :)
I can see myself being this man. Thinking "is this all?" buying land somewhere, failing at making a well, taking way too long to complete, fall in a depression spiral, seeing no end, after years of work 1 costumer says you're doing good, continiue, do well, have a short film made about your deepest emotions and what drove your life in this way, say you're fine but people stay skeptical
You have done what other people want to do , but they never done anything. Props to you my friend. You hsve just shown in this video that LIFE IS A JOURNEY! PEACE MY FRIEND.
Looks idyllic. Pity he associates the island with hard times. He has achieved so much more than he realises. I hope the island will become a place a joy and refuge for him one day.

A wonderful story. I wish you love and tranquility. Fabulous.
Thank you
I enjoyed this, thank you.
Amazing, inspiring story
Thank you!
Wow thank you! I’ll pass the message on to Martin so you can meet up and make some music. That would be an awesome outcome of making this film! 🙌
great video - great human
I can relate to this in many ways...
Amazing analysis. I think we all have been there at some point :)
You have done what other people want to do , but they never done anything. Props to you my friend. You hsve just shown in this video that LIFE IS A JOURNEY! PEACE MY FRIEND.
It is indeed! Thanks for your support

Indonesia is my number one country! Gili is also awesome. There are no police, a lot of diving, and good food!
It's an amazing place indeed

Salut for u effort and fighting spirits to achieve your goal, every difficulty always have sweet memories to tell.
It might become a good book :D
Looks idyllic. Pity he associates the island with hard times. He has achieved so much more than he realises. I hope the island will become a place a joy and refuge for him one day.
It's beautiful, but very small. So I understand that spending 10+ years there makes you need more land mass to roam :)
lovn it brother! always stay true......................................
Thank you for watching it!
