SURFING WITH AND WITHOUT KITE, BUT IT ALMOST WENT DOWN THE TOILET - SwT 196

- Kite surfing in Sanur, wave surfing in Kuta Beach, and fixing a blocked toilet! Planning things is not always so easy living on a yacht, and more rule than exception is that something always will fail and need full attention. This time it's something blocking the drain of the holding tank making it full when it is supposed to be empty. This requires immediate attention as this warm climate makes things happen in a grey water tank really fast. I'm sharing my solution for emergency emptying the holding tank in a place without pump-out facilities.

ABOUT THIS CHANNEL:
I'm a sailor with a RUclips channel and not a RUclipsr. Sailing around the world in a Bavaria 55 Cruiser mostly solo, making videos whenever we have time for it.
Comfortable at sea with 4 decades of sailing experience and hundreds of thousands of miles behind me.
Even though this is season 6 on RUclips I did not make that many videos in the beginning, and obviously not from my entire sailing life. Before full-time sailing 6 years ago, I sailed several seasons in the Mediterranean, and obviously also in Scandinavia. I had my first sailboat at age 7 and have been sailing and racing ever since. Also, more than 10 years of experience as a captain in Search and Rescue at sea in Norway.
Thomas, you’re brilliant! An indirect version of having the seacock open dumping the head to the sea! Well… Whatever works :-)
Thank you so much for your kind words and for being here 🙏🏻 All the best
Thanks for a fun video Thomas. It seems like it is more enjoyable when you have friends with you to share the adventure as well as assisting on the boat. Looking forward to more great videos. Cheers.
Thank you so much my friend 🙏🏻 I probably the most social solo sailor out there. I’m happy to know that our good energy and friendship shines through. Cheers 🍻
Love your videos!! Thank you for sharing!! ❤
Thank you so much for letting me know 🙏🏻 Much appreciated and thank you for being here
I'll miss the gal, she adds a lot of cuteness to your videos.
Ha ha😆 She is for sure cuter than me😆
Life of a sailor, surf and turf 😅 Thanks for sharing Thomas! Looking forward to the polished intro.
Thank you so much my friend 🙏🏻 Cheers from BE FREE 🍻
you guys remind me of my first time to surf and all the people I helped learn to surf including my grandchildren
Thank you so much for watching and for being here🙏🏻 We are super amateurs in wave surfing but it’s so much fun! We had a blast out there, and are continuing with this!
Cheers 🍻
thank you for all the fun and hard good work ! safe sails :)
Thank you so much🙏🏻
Glad to know you enjoyed this episode. Cheers from BE FREE
Another Great video! Always enjoy your videos.

You fixed a shitty situation. 👏
Thanks for sharing. 🏄♂️🏄♀️
Thank you so much my friend 🙏🏻 Some of the tasks on a yacht are not the most glamorous😀
Cheers from BE FREE 🍻
Enjoyed the video. Surprised you didn't surf in Bocas Del Toro.
Thank you so much for watching and for being here. I was actually thinking about it when I was in Bocas.
Cheers from Bali 🍻
Goodluck to Brian on his job search!
On behalf of Brian, thank you so much 🙏🏻 He already received several job offers so it will for sure go very well
Ahhh thanks Thomas!
I don’t think I will ever swim in the oceans again without the image of you emptying “the shitter” w a makeshift hose into the sea!!! Ugh. 😜🤣🤢
You have no idea how big the ocean is and how much shit gets dumped in...
Ha ha😅 I’m sorry!
Swimming is totally okay where the water changes and circulate. However crowded ports/anchorages might not be the best places to go for a swim.
Thank you so much for watching 🙏🏻
So, you dumped your sewage in a small harbor? Did you fill your water tank and swim there, also? Great video.
Sad but true!
If you had seen this bay you would not go for a swim here, ass all the houses and restaurants sends everything straight out here. So it’s a definitely no for running watermaker at this location.
It’s actually among the worst anchorage ever in terms of water quality.
Thank you so much for watching 🙏🏻
Hi guys, I had a friend of mine when we were in Fiji. He wanted to go and surf at Cloudbreak when he got out there. He nearly pooped them self. The waves are so big he was so scared and it wasn’t even when the surf was up really high Never surfed in my life , when I was young fella year, the road, a surfboard or a motorbike, I chose the motorbikes , Cliff from Australia 🇦🇺
Hey Cliff, thank you so much for watching and even sharing this story. It’s lots of energy in a big wave, so totally understand the feeling.
Cheers from BE FREE🍻
Hadde samme tank løsning i min Bavaria 38 sport.
I never use the toilet in my boat, at sea i have a dump over the side and in the marina i use the toilets on shore😂😂😂
Ha ha😆 That’s also a solution. Thank you so much for watching and for leaving a comment as well
💙🌎✌🏽😇.
Thank you so much 🙏🏻
So thats why you get ear infections from swimming in serangan 😂😂
Ha ha😂 Yeah never swim in close proximity to a crowded anchorage😅
Might be the rivers from Denpasar and even all the houses around this bay that sends all they have straight out is of a more significant impact though. Some days the water here are so gross I would never swim here.
Thank you so much for being here🙏🏻
Maybe drop some Brine Shrimp in the holding tanks after the vinegar is flushed out and let the brine shrimp consume the poop like they do in septic tanks?
Thank you so much for watching and for your hint here. I don’t know this chemical, so it’s absolutely interesting. Do you know if it’s safe towards plastic and rubber that’s some of the components in a standard yachts plumbing solution?
Cheers 🍻
@@SailingwithThomas What are some fun facts about brine shrimp?
Artemia are also known as brine shrimp. You may have seen them advertised commercially as 'sea monkeys' and sold as pets. They look similar to other shrimp, however have 11 pairs of legs and a long tail. They get the name sea monkeys because they are excellent acrobats!
@@SailingwithThomas Do brine shrimp clean tanks?
Brine shrimp are filter feeders and remove fine organic particles from the water as they swim.
@Useless_Knowledge07 Thank you for sharing 🙏🏻
May I ask how big each holding tank is?
They are 80-100 liters
Lots of black water if you can’t pump it out😅
Gnarly vid ;)
What's up with your sails?
They will be stitched here in Bali, so that I can make it to Thailand where there are several sail lofts.
Thank you so much for being here🙏🏻
...an exploding black water holding tank, not something I even considered ... now I will though...😳🤢
(of course, fifty years ago our offshore "head" was a bucket on a long line, different from the bucket that was our "shower" ...)
The simplest solutions are often the best. But in Europe you are no longer aloud to sail without a holding tank.
And in Norway it’s illegal to just pump it out in the entire oslo fjord. You need a pump out solution as well. This is more and more normal. EG. The Panama Canal now also demands a holding tank, and even inspect the valve to verify you can close it. If not you will not be accepted for transit. More and more marinas has pump out, and will not accept you to pump straight into their marina basin.
@SailingwithThomas - Thank goodness we are (slowly) learning to treat nature with respect!
An other great video, although a bit shitty
Cheers
Ha ha😀 Shitty indeed! Thank you so much for being here 🙏🏻
