    How soft is the matt compared to a wooden floor lol? Because I kinda wanna practice, but I just have the wooden floorboard in my house 😂

    • @aiwassmirko
      @aiwassmirko 4 года назад +6

      For my experience you can practice on a hard surface if you have some background and that actually is going to give you more feedback on how good you are. Keep in mind this is a roll so you have to roll, not jump. If you jump you're going to feel pain. If you don't have any background I'd start trying on a grass.
      If you have to try bumps, that's a different thing. You'll need at least an one inch EVA mat; that is the same hardness than the wrestling ring though the ring has a shock absorber which makes it even softer

      work on your figure 4 get ups. If you can do the right quarter roll then you're half way there. You just have to duplicate it. Try not bending your leading knee more than a 120 degree angle. Lean over till your leading arm nearly touches your leading toe. As you roll (roll on the back of your hand, wrist, forarm, bicep to shoulder to a 3/4 of your back. Remember to do the figure four get up which will throw you off if you don't

    Just bought me an air track to practice rolls in the yard while our ring is locked up for Corona-isolation. But I find that I get more whiplashes than in the real ring, when I hit any bump or roll due to the increased bounce . Any advice for good ways of training basics without a ring?

    This seems like it should be so easy, but the very first thing my school started students off doing as a cardio exercise was putting one student in each corner and having us do rolls to the next corner, turn and roll to the next, etc.... which is fine until you have someone like me who struggles to get up out of a roll, then you've got people rolling into you. :(
    Luckily I'm not planning to be a wrestler. I'm just taking some of the very basic training with those guys cause I'm going into reffing and I want to be able to take bumps, etc. when the match calls for it.

      Squat lower, tuck your head deeper, utilize your hands to control your movement without halting it. Push off the ball of your feet and grab your knees on the way up in order to get back to your feet. Also body weight workouts will help you control your body. Push ups, Squats, Lunges, Updowns, jumping jacks etc etc.

    • @jessinotjessie
      @jessinotjessie 4 года назад +2

      It is typically canvas over 1.5" foam rubber padding which lays on wooden planks laid across steel beams. It gives a little, more towards the middle, and offers a slight cushion (in the sense it doesn't feel like a concrete floor) but that's about it. Stiff, not soft

    • @aiwassmirko
      @aiwassmirko 4 года назад

      @@jessinotjessie steel beams with a shock absorber in the middle. To answer the question, IDK how a gymnastic spring mat is, but basically it is very bouncy in the middle but close to the ropes it's pretty much like a boxing/fighting tatami. That's why all the big bumps, jumps, suplexes, slams, etc. are done as close to the middle as possible

      Yes. Brody King is 300+ pounds and can do all these rolls. Do big wrestlers NEED to do this? Rolling and or tumbling rarely come into play unless you're taking an armdrag. But psychology tells me it must be a big dude giving said arm drag which would not make sense either since it's another big guy. What the rolls do is it gives you the advantage of being able to move in the ring.
