I was a student here around 10 years ago and had never been back there since working in Japan. This really brings back memories! I came from School Of Art, Design and Media, down the slope leading up to the North Spine Plaza, and it's the huge, pretty glass building that you probably passed through while taking the bus into the campus.
nice to meet a follower..haha..you said absurd looking building..in a way..it is absurdly interesting..haha..as always..love the way..you present anything and everything singaporean
Why absurd? Looks very unique architecturally. Guess it is eye of the beholder. I still think Singapore has one of the best building maintenance n facilities n cleanest to say the least compare to other countries in Asia.
🤔 I think ntu also have own fast food outlets, Everyday you walk the stairs you burn abit more😋, make your leg stronger 🤣 There are a few canteens in NTU There is a garden there with waterfall too U walked small part of NTU
NTU’s history goes back to 1955. It was then 南洋大学, Nanyang University. It was built by the Chinese community and donations from all walks of life poor to rich as the only Chinese University in Sg. But the students were infiltrated by communists that stoked the students to carry out protests demonstration & riots. Many of the graduates who took part were black listed and could not find jobs in SG. Many emigrated but kept the Nanyang U spirit alive. Then in mid / late 1970s NU was closed by Ministry of Education stating no need 2 universities in SG. Then in around 1980 it was revived as Nanyang Technological University (NTU). The then University of Singspore was renamed National University of Singspore (NUS).
Correction: Nanyang University was merged with the then University of Singapore to form the current NUS in 1980. The Campus in Nanyang university was subsequently converted to Nanyang Technological Institute (NTI) which houses part of engineering students from NUS. It subsequently took in students from Accountancy, etc. The graduates were still conferred the NUS degree. In 1991, NTI was fully inaugurated and became a full fledge university (NTU) and it confers its own degrees. I was the last batch of NTI accountancy student being conferred the NUS degree in 1991. And fortunate enough to be both alumni of NUS and NTU.
