You can tell on the albums too, they don't process or mess with her voice at all, it's just natural, and that's why she sounds so good live ... because it's effortless for her (not that she doesn't put a lot of work into it, just that it's like talking is for the rest of us, it just comes naturally). That girl was born to sing like a bird. :)
This song is so powerful that it makes me cry. To quote a friend "there are few things more sublime than the last 1:30 of this song". No truer words have been spoken.
"And I'll keep hoping you are the same as me And I'll send you letters, and come to your house for tea We are who we are, what do the others know?" These lyrics have always made me well up. She's such a genuine sweet person, that always came through in the Sundays' music.
NEVER NEVER do I tire of listening to The Sundays. They are magical at every listen. It will be a great joy if we ever get another release from Harriet and the gang.
I was lucky enough to see them twice in Connecticut and Boston in the early 90s. This is my single favorite song of all time, and it was great to find this on RUclips. Every couple weeks, I check the Internet in the hope that there will be a reunion. One great day, this will happen. I'm sure of it.
I saw The Sundays perform at UC Irvine in 1994, I believe. What an incredible show/this song is my absolute favorite of theirs and Harriet sounds phenomenal-live!!!! 🫶🏼 🎶
one of the few bands where they sound just as good live if not better than on record.her voice is amazing and although she wanted to settle down etc I'd have loved at least one more album from them!!
I still love their music. So timeless. Saw them in Boston and then later at the Marin Civic Centre in California. Both great shows. Even got Harriet Wheeler to sign my CD!
I listened to this on my way from NY to Maine for grad school in 92.........to this day, i STILL get goose bumps when i hear her sing........i'm thankful that i can still listen to this
She's just the greatest ever!! I bought this cassette when it first came out after reading a review in an L.A. rag and I must've listened to it a hundred times.. I was unlike anything I'd ever heard..
Wish I had seen them live in '97! Found out they played in Hollywood after the fact. One of the best "unknown" bands. Everyone I've exposed to them fell in love with the Sundays!
So many favorite bits in this performance - one of my fave of favorite bits.... "The finest hour, I've ever known".... (looks momentarily to the left) "........ is finding a pound on the underground".
I cry watching this why wont she sing again it's a sad world without more of her voice....if anyone who ever reads this knows any of the Sundays personally, just by some slim chance, please tell them how much they are missed and needed...thank you for posting this video
Oh my god this is the first time I have seen this video. It has always been one of my favourite Sundays songs and Harriet's vocal performance is astonishing. God I miss this band so much I just hope against hope that they know how much they are loved and decide to record again
One of the truly regret of my life. I have never been to a concert of The Sundays. They never came to Italy and i never was able to fly in England at the right time. By the way, thanks for all Harriet. Thanks for all the emotions that your voice give to me every time.
@comebackharriet yeah, I was in Home depot - I'm brit away from home - and I couldn't believe I heard "Finest Hour on the PA". I hung around the indoor plants just so I could hear the beautiful end of the song - its finest hour!
Harriet Wheeler, Billie Holiday and Karen Carpenter all have this mesmerizing quality to their voice that makes me stop what I'm doing and just sit there listening in absolute rapture.
One of my favourite Sundays songs, Harriet really uses her vocal talents on this one. It is a shame the later B-side Gone from 1997 couldn't have been an album track, it is one of their most beautiful songs.
I could have been watching wrong but I think the drummer never plays the toms on this song which adds to the simplicity and beauty of this song... Stunning
I dunno myself, steele - I never did see them myself; she does seem a little intense in this performance, but her pitch and enunciation are absolutely perfect, and she stays true to the original recording; a little improvisation is fine sometimes but I do think some artists get a little carried away with their voices when they do live shows; this is a fine performance, I think - she has a marvelous voice and I do miss her.
Someone needs to give those kids some real good paying jobs real quick, so they can move the fuck out of the house and let mummy and daddy get busy with them guitars again.
@steele66 I agree...If you watch some of her work from the 92 tour she looks a lot happier. No complaints. It's still a privilege to watch any Sundays work
You can tell on the albums too, they don't process or mess with her voice at all, it's just natural, and that's why she sounds so good live ... because it's effortless for her (not that she doesn't put a lot of work into it, just that it's like talking is for the rest of us, it just comes naturally). I was at this gig. One of my most favorite memories.
her voice is incredible
"And I'll keep hoping you are the same as me
And I'll send you letters, and come to your house for tea
We are who we are, what do the others know?"
These lyrics have always made me well up. She's such a genuine sweet person, that always came through in the Sundays' music.

Saw them in Boston on the Reading, Writing and Arithmetic tour. Harriet was truly mesmerizing.
Their music was a thing of sheer beauty!
this is my favorite song in the whole entire world.
I saw The Sundays perform at UC Irvine in 1994, I believe. What an incredible show/this song is my absolute favorite of theirs and Harriet sounds phenomenal-live!!!! 🫶🏼 🎶
As close to perfection as it's possible to get.
Oh Harriet you were so perfect in every way. But the band is about as tight as can be here too. Just stellar all around.
Was just thinking that
Saw them in Pittsburgh in '93. They are perfect live. Miss this amazing band.
Metropol, I was there too 🥰
An incredeble band who finished on a high note ''static & silence was a beautifull album, miss them so very much.
Saw them around 1990 in Dublin. Still stands out as one if the best. Like listening to an album.
one of the few bands where they sound just as good live if not better than on record.her voice is amazing and although she wanted to settle down etc I'd have loved at least one more album from them!!
Just beautiful! I love her! Perfection!
this song makes me want to cry tears of joy for some reason

The Sundays Music. Isn’t it just amazing? just the voice and the guitar. It’s mental!

Simply superb.
Thanks for the post.
Her vocal pitch is great live.
I still love their music. So timeless. Saw them in Boston and then later at the Marin Civic Centre in California. Both great shows. Even got Harriet Wheeler to sign my CD!

Amazing! Fantastic band!
O Harriet and DaveYou have been by muse. Everytime I play your songs I suddenly realise i want to write music like yours.
Wish I had seen them live in '97! Found out they played in Hollywood after the fact. One of the best "unknown" bands. Everyone I've exposed to them fell in love with the Sundays!
Great footage, thanks
So many favorite bits in this performance - one of my fave of favorite bits.... "The finest hour, I've ever known".... (looks momentarily to the left) "........ is finding a pound on the underground".
We have to be thankful for such music and performance. I am.
I cry watching this why wont she sing again it's a sad world without more of her voice....if anyone who ever reads this knows any of the Sundays personally, just by some slim chance, please tell them how much they are missed and needed...thank you for posting this video

+The Sundays Music Yes, thank you, you rock very hard!
Oh my god this is the first time I have seen this video. It has always been one of my favourite Sundays songs and Harriet's vocal performance is astonishing. God I miss this band so much I just hope against hope that they know how much they are loved and decide to record again
The words sum it all up!
One of the truly regret of my life. I have never been to a concert of The Sundays. They never came to Italy and i never was able to fly in England at the right time. By the way, thanks for all Harriet. Thanks for all the emotions that your voice give to me every time.

Please come back. Your disappearance is so symbolical of the good music that came from the 90's. I love you Harriet.

Come back Harriet and Dave, you had way too much talent to take that early retirement.
Absolutely beautiful and I agree. This is real !!!!!!! Not reproduced!!! Harriet and David!!!
Mesmerizing.
Her voice is a dejavu for me
One of my favourite Sundays songs, Harriet really uses her vocal talents on this one. It is a shame the later B-side Gone from 1997 couldn't have been an album track, it is one of their most beautiful songs.
Amazing voice!
The ending is crazy awesome..
I love your voice..so peaceful... you sing very very nice.. comeback!!!
She is beautiful, but when you hear that voice you don't even care what she looks like!
She's just THAT good!
Jeff Buckely ROCKS!!!....such talent gone so quickly.
I could have been watching wrong but I think the drummer never plays the toms on this song which adds to the simplicity and beauty of this song... Stunning
I'm in love again...
OK. This really got me. Deep down.
I do too, trooperJac. Gorgeous.
OMG perfect!

Finest band ever. Surpass The Smiths.
Like I said earlier the ending is awesome......
Maybe she'll come back when the kids are grown up. I'll be waiting for that sweet voice and David's awesome guitar hooks.
Someone needs to give those kids some real good paying jobs real quick, so they can move the fuck out of the house and let mummy and daddy get busy with them guitars again.
If loving her is wrong I don't want to be right.
2 dislikes? seriously??? wtf?
ty
@steele66 I agree...If you watch some of her work from the 92 tour she looks a lot happier. No complaints. It's still a privilege to watch any Sundays work

Come back Harriet. Amen to that.
@comebackharriet You can tell it's live. Harriet's voice is just that spectacular.
