      totally agree, these LM are asian limos. the N.America crowd often use big US suvs Escalades, Suburbans, Denali, Navigator. there's this stigma here about vans as if they're not alpha, macho or pro- enough.. that's the silent truth.
      but bottom line- we all just want comfort!

  • @ryannatividad3137
    @ryannatividad3137 Год назад +54

    These would make much more sense as luxury livery vehicles than the full-size XL SUVs (Escalade, Denali, Suburban, etc.) that have become most commonplace in the US. Also, would make the ultimate large luxury family vehicle, but at the very least it seems like they would make sense as a commercial vehicle that is meant to transport people and their stuff for short distances, such as hotel shuttles, luxury taxis, etc. It would be so much more space efficient, and easier to load/unload people and stuff.

    I rode in an Alphard van in Thailand, the hotel set one to pick us up. It felt like sitting in a business class seat, the seat recline all the way plus it comes with a champagne holder which chills the champagne which I doubt is possible in the United States unless its used to chill some sparkling apple cider instead. Ours was 3 rows and didn't come with a big screen TV however the middle seat can do a 360 and face the rear seat. What an amazing car, why can't limos in the US be like this?

Luggage super important. Minivans don't offer adequate space behind the 3rd row BUT neither do the non-extended versions of American SUVs

  • @SkyWKing
    @SkyWKing Год назад +7

    They will not introduce this into America simply because nobody would spend more than $100k on a minivan. Meanwhile in China the ultra-rich would pay $200k MSRP AND another $100-200k in mark-ups to get this VIP transport. You may call that markup ridiculous but it's pocket change for the billionaires and maybe even embezzled money that needs to be get rid of.
    Chinese dealerships love the LM because it's literally a money printer and only the best performing salesperson is allowed to sell it and collect that fat commission. This is a Bentley/Rolls-Royce competitor, not a "more upscale Alphard". And Lexus dealers don't ask too many questions like where the money comes from, unlike some European brands that do background checks to avoid being related to corrupt CCP members.

    It kills me that we won't get this in the US, it looks much more elegant and practical than the US Sienna's "soccer mom" vibe imo. I'd love to see at least one these boxier minivans hit the US market for roomier headroom in that 3rd row, and maximized vertical cargo space with the seats down. I guess the VW Buzz is the closest we'll get on this side of the globe. :(

    • @TechNick1
      @TechNick1 Год назад +13

      @NOS They do sell a more "affordable" Toyota badged variant of this LM called Alphard, although even that model is pricy. There is also the Toyota Noah/Voxy which have a very similar style and are truly affordable, coming in around or even below the cost of Corolla Cross. Beyond Toyota, most major (and minor) brands offer these boxy minivans in various sizes - I'd just like to see any single one of them be offered in the US as a more distinctive alternative to the Sienna/Odyssey.

  • @tonicgin2087
    @tonicgin2087 Год назад +11

    The previous LM sells for USD $300K+ (with dealer markup) in China and it’s only 3 years old. Its reputation suffered a HUGE hit from a famous one-car accident in China where its all five doors were locked after a high speed impact. People had to pry open the front doors to save the front row driver and passenger, and broke the hatch window to check on the rear passenger (owner). The owner was killed in the accident because she was lying down + using the ottoman (leg support?) when the car was in motion. The helpers were not able to get her body out before the car caught fire and cremated its owner in a few minutes. If there was no help (fortunately there was) the same would have happened to the others in front row. Minivans are not known to be safe cars but apparently Toyota needs a new version of this to hopefully erase that negative image. I do like the new design BTW. Very futuristic and elegant for a box. The interior is also an absolute dream.

I wish Lexus built more refined ultra-luxurious vehicles that market only to affluent families and individuals, like Maybach, Bentley, Rolls Royce, Auston Martine, Ferrari, etc. No one would buy a $200K Lexus for everyday vehicles in the US. 11:30 Those phones look like Lexus went to Apple and said make me some custom phones... OMG.... 😳 I doubt it tho. Apple is not the company to do that. And then who would want that done w/ a Windows phone? NO ONE... it is odd. These phones...I feel like its to much to fully integrate a phone in a car like this. Look at the 90's car phones. IF they are still there they no longer work. This would be the same thing in 50 years.

    The size is too small for the US and European markets because it is based on the Alphard, which is mainly for the Japanese market. There are a lot of copycats of this in the Chinese market, so I don't think it will be as easy as it used to be for Lexus without a BEV version.

      Not everywhere is a war zone. This is the most common way of luxury transportation in east Asia (and a lot of places).

    That grill is RIDICULOUS!! I am sad that they haven't announced the TX as of yet... I put a deposit on one a couple of months ago... really hoping it announced soon so that I can get it by end of year!! Think I will likely get the TX of the Grand Highlander (unless it has this grill)...

    Does the new LM, in anyway, share the same build structure, frame, etc as the Sienna? I always thought the previous model Alphard were completely different, since they appear narrower, smaller.

    Kirk, we don't care about this model which we cannot buy up here in Canada. Since Toyota treats Canadian minivans buyers like Sh.t ! You MAY get a Sienna in 2030 if you order in 2023. Nice job giving all the business to Honda. Excellent strategy !!!

    Gimme the Super Ultra Lux in Gold! Yeah, sure, I'll take two of them LOL! So it seems to me like the question for bringing it here would be: Are there enough super-rich parents of younger families who would feel the need to have one of these over an SUV (or a Sienna)? I don't have kids myself, but I would think the answer is No. They don't need the land yacht / lier jet atmosphere just to go to school. Plus I would think the parents would constantly be worried about the kids somehow making a mess in it!

    No that fan of the exterior design. Lexus should follow the MPV lines of the VW Buzz, which wouldn't be a surprise that will start a new trend on the BEV market.
