Credit where it is due, your Calypso impression is top tier.
Thank you! Even if I don't think my impression is that good, I adore Calypso's voice so if I can even slightly mimic it I'm happy.
The first Twisted Metal game is such a joy, it feels like the rock solid foundation all the rest of the titles were built upon, and while it isn't extravagant and has all the bells and whistles of 2, it really has to say something that honestly 2 didn't really have to fine tune all too much from the first game! Driving feels different between all contestants, you got almost all the regulars from the beginning, the weapons all feel super good and serve purposes (minus oil).
It's a game which knew what it wanted, and was largely able to get it all in a way that if it was the only game in the series people would look back on it fondly and not have a ton to criticize. Though I will say this was a super well done critic, and analysis of what makes this title tick and your enthusiasm was really good to hear on this game I feel many don't really give the limelight it deserves for what it accomplished on it's own! Keep up the great work, and have a lovely day!
Your ramblings on cheesy shlop horror movies from the 80's is spot-on exactly what I was always feeling with Twisted Metal but never could find the right pins to point it. Dark Humor and Campy while not holding back on the kills is the vibe that feels just right for the series, and it's a shame they could never find that balance again.
I originally just played the first game because I wanted to finally give the series a try, but when I started playing it it really was this huge moment of finding what I was looking for. As for it losing that tone I agree but also kind of don't mind? I don't like 3 and 4 but I also kind of see them tone wise as the more comedy focused horror sequels such as Texas Chainsaw 2, Elm Street 4, or Jason X. And I see Black as the series going from 80s and 90s slasher to the more intense horror of the 2000s. Either way 1 and 2 have that perfect sweet spot of shlocky grittiness
@@ColeTheFactGuy TM4 was my first TM game way back as a kid for christmas and I was enthralled by the series ever since then, always changing my mind what I feel is most right or could be evolved on as I go back and forth which I play
These games are so good. I watched him play them all
My first Twisted Metal was 4 I know its not everyone cup of tea but it the reason I got into Twisted Metal in the first place and played them all but I like TM Black controls betters than 2 never was a fan of if you ran into a wall hard you lose health
I started with TM 2 in late 90s. I never played the 1st one but you make me want to play it. Very good video
I liked the Twisted Metal Reboot as well on the PS3
Recently played that one for the first time. It's great! I miss all the characters but gameplay wise it's one of the best
@@ColeTheFactGuyVery Troo!
the pc version of tm1 has drakside shooting a freeze and raming as his special
This was well written and a great watch more twisted metal please
Homers do very little damage? For like 90-95% accuracy. They do huge damage.
Cyburbia is pretty trash.
Many levels have kind of piss weapon placement. There is waay to many defensive items with something like the catapult being rather useless. The game desperetly needs a few more fire missle placements.
Overall its a fun game. I like almost all TMs. Sept small brawl, head on (like the idea, everything is to homogenized. Every special is likr 30 damage) and 2012. 3 characters sucks.
Twisted Metal is my favourite game series as you can tell from my profile pic. For me Twisted Metal has the perfect balance of gritty and cartoony. TM2 being my favourite.
I played this new when it came out, bought it after I played or watched a part of it on a demo disc.
I hate that you make me wanna go back and play them all for the first time. My backlog doesn't appreciate your tone. Great video as usual 😊
16:29 these actually got cut because of the girls wearing bikinis. parts of the team were okay with the violence but not the somewhat nude girls, and they had to be cut as a result. otherwise, they would of probably stayed in.
the david jaffe interview with ghenryperez is really fascinating and sheds some background onto the development of these games.
Vigilante 8
😎
I had this idea for a twisted metal game/comic but the characters were furries-
NO NO WAIT HEAR ME OUT. one of the characters was a donkey supposed to represent Bill Clinton and was called "Jerry Mandering" He would be ferried around in an armored limousine by two comedic relief secret service eagles
I love the idea of violent automotive bloodsports complemented by over the top crazy characters
Hahaha 😂that Thumbnail hit Me Hard 😂🫶🫶🫶🫶
That's how my thumbnails get made. Me and my fiance just think of what would make us laugh the most
...wasn't there a crossout event of this?
i started with tm two back when it first came out. I rented one and two is just better.
I’m glad that you’re not just crapping all over the game. This one is in my top 3. Ramming is also a big aspect of the game. The sides take higher damage than the back and the front is not a wise choice to hit. The lack of cover for Free Way Free For All is an issue for me. In the spectre lost ending, that one makes me laugh all the time. Not just because of how bad the driver’s acting is. It’s the look on Calypso’s face before he shoot’s him. It’s like he’s thinking, “You know it’d be hilarious if I shot this guy when he revives.” You know. For the lolz.
Also, please do more Twisted Metal. And more memes
I totally will do more Twisted Metal. Not sure exactly when because I prefer to jump around rather than railroad into one series. Also yeah I totally love the way ramming is encouraged, really adds to the idea that if you've got nothing left, might as well charge forward into someone.
The rear flames are by far the worse weapon pick up. Seeing as it's super difficult to even get a hit. They'd have to be right up your ass for rear flame to even work. Which by then, what's the point? Let them get that close, and your health will be in red.
Same with the Catapult. It's pnly used to reach that one power missle hidden on top of the tree in River Park Rumble.
All that difficulty, and getting that missle is annoying. Best used only with faster vehicles.
In terms of levels, River Park Rumble and Assault on Cyburbia are my personal favorites. I actually also like Freeway Free for All. I get the dislike, but i love being able to freely drove around for a bit without worry. Similar to what you said about the Health Stations where you get to recollect yourself. Freeway Free for All is THAT for me.
Sweet Tooths armor is very cheap. It doesn't feel like the 4 points that's shown on display. He gets crumbled up very easily, especially by the other bigger guy's.
Hammerhead feels weird when you run out of his Special. Try it out and you'll see what i mean.
Darkside is the best at ramming, but doesn't stand a chance against Hammerhead.
And Warthog is the only one who Darkside can't just ram into and dominate. He can take Darkside head on and receive little damage. So his armor os actually above Sweet Tooth's in my opinion.
Bro, if you like that kind of feel in old horror movies, why dont you play puppet combo games?
I actually do! They're fun. If I'm being honest, they're just too loud for me. I enjoy the atmosphere so much but the actual scares and kills are way too loud and take me out of the game
@@ColeTheFactGuy thats ok and fair, i feel the same too, i recomend trying to mess up with the settings so it isnt that loud, also i have videos on My channel of both twisted metal and puppet combo games if You wanna check, but they are in spanish
Black and 4 are my favorites could never get into 2 because of the freeze spamming and ice rink controls. 2 and 3 being my least favorites
2 is very spam happy with how the AI works, as for ice rink controls, I just don't see it. I think it's very fast which can kind of lead to that, but the weight is still there. I wish I could love 3 and 4 but those are the ones I tend to say have ice rink controls, as the cars feel so weightless. Glad others can still find enjoyment in them though
@ColeTheFactGuy yea I always believed 4 was crap till I actually played it and found myself loving the leveling system and weapons once I got used to the controls. Characters are ass though lol
TM2 remaster pwease
3&4 are the best
For someone like me however who only likes good games, they're actually pretty weak
@@ColeTheFactGuy if you like good games then I'm surprised you don't like those two since they made the controls, graphics, physics, and code inputs so much better.
Twisted Metal Black feels a lot like a kind of HD version of the original. It has partial heals like other games, but the stations from this game return as full heals. A lot of the stages are also reminiscent of the originals. The most obvious being Downtown being a lot like River Park Rumble, but bigger. TM:Head On similarly feels like TM2 HD. Twisted Metal 1 is the best kind of jank. It's fun, chaotic and probably the only game I could see being easily comverted into an arcade machine. Definitely plays like an arcade game
I agree with the Black comparison. Also has the return of Yellowjacket, a car previously only in TM1. Suburbs are also like Cyburbia, there's a highway level, a bug city with a wide open space in the middle. As for Head On, I kind of disagree. It has similarities with 2, but I've finally been playing it recently, and while it's great, I feel like it does enough different from 2 to be considered a sequel. But also is held back a lot more by its hardware than 2 was
@@ColeTheFactGuy I forgot to mention that Black also has ambient music play when you're far from any other cars. I think the original is the only other one that does that. Head on definitely only has that comparison in aesthetics like the similar comic book style cutscenes, locations and landmarks and overall less realistic, more cartoony graphics during gameplay. There's also the fact that it continues TM2's story, but gameplay wise it's funnily probably the easiest Twisted Metal game. Still cool to have on PSP
