I owe Tony Wilson a lot as he gave me a big break in that far off year of 1990 when he signed a track of mine for his Factory label. As a consequence I got to know Shaun a bit when we had a mad night out in Jersey where we talked for most of the night scoffing prawn sandwiches and smoking weed from a bong he handily made from a toilet roll ... great memories and lovely guys the pair of them.
@@lazer2365 No an improvised pipe made from the cardboard centre of a toilet roll and silver paper from a cigarette packet. I don't need to lie to make my life interesting.
Pulp and 'Different Classes', Happy Mondays 'Pills Thrills & Bellyaches', Blur and 'Parklife', Oasis and 'Definitely Maybe', and for sure you can add Saint Etienne's album Foxbase Alpha to that list from a decade of fantastic music. Great episode btw, thanks for posting.
Paul McCartney - Number 29 in the UK. Nelson - Number 1 in USA. Number 54 in the UK. Saint Etienne - Number 80 in the UK. Vixen - Number 71 in USA. Number 41 in the UK. Candy Flip - Number 98 in the UK.
Brilliant TV! There is a rumour that Happy Mondays or Black Grape were managed by Paul McCartney's son. But there is a legal restriction on it being discussed. If true it obviously did not go well. St Etienne are a great band. Glad they were on this show.
The Joy Division boys along with Gretton ,Mason and Wilson more or less fucked anything that wasn't tied down why do you put Wilson on a pedestal anyway he was a pretentious cunt at the best of times clever but a 'bit of a wanker' (his words) , get over it

A glass toilet roll.
I think you lie.

It was a good decade for music, wasn't it? Probably better than the eighties. Pulp were magnificent.
Pills and Thrills isn't even the Mondays best album
Tony simultaneously doesn't give a fuck about anything at all, and also cares intensely about every fiber of his being.
Love the colors in this vid.
Like a 1970s color television.
It's colours no colors where in England not America

Where in England are we?

Time Lord Victorious
A Man Called Adam at the end - that was a classic chillout tune in 1990.
St Etienne went on to greatness next year with there debut album though..
BLAST FROM THE PAST!
They have 2 bring this back
Agreed Susan..it was a great show!
Brilliant TV!

Nah - it was Nathan McGough, son of Liverpool poet Roger, that managed Happy Mondays.
5:53 What was that word you used earlier Shaun? "Wabosh Jools... nosh" Jools: Ah lovely, loverly :D :D
Anthony is so sweet.
Oh man. I busted out as soon as Nelson started. Now I need to watch Beavis & Butthead rip on those fartknockers.
Funny how the candy flip track sounded like a happy Monday’s rip-off and tony Wilson spoke his mind on Paul mcartney said he was shit spot on !!!
Paul McCartney shit ....lol
@@timcomley3241he was and is, ceased being any good about 50 years ago
It's a pity most of these episodes are cut short..why is that?
Candy Flip was just a weak clone of the Happy Mondays. Not calling them on it shows what a nice bloke Shaun is.
Some dreadful songs they are being asked to judge.
Wonder why Tony referred to Linda as Linda Eastman? (Her maiden name I know)
seigfried and roy didnt get any better
anyone know where i can watch the full episode?
They almost knocked that dog off of Babs’ head
Broadcast 7 October 1990
I love jools Holland
this is such a strange premise for a programme lol
Jools "Ladies and Gentlemen" Holland........🤔
0:10 I thought the licensing laws had been relaxed a couple of years before.
08:00 Precursor to Jedward?
Were they male or female, brother & sisters?
Very yanky doodle, wouldn't stand a chance over here.
Shaun Ryder looks like he was wearing a wig.
Stretched out to widescreen…. Hard to watch
Never mind the terrible music, the whole show was a miss.
No budget spared on this show hey. WTF?
Tony Wilson is a huge inspiration to me but his sexism was a pretty sad letdown, especially for someone otherwise so intelligent.

shite tunes bar from Saint E
Wabosh haha
wow those sad sad women desperately clutching at the old feminist straws... get a grip
If you don't like Vixen that means you're a male fascist!!!!!!
Got to be honest, the whole thing would have been better with the girls' tits out. Except Lindsey's or Bab's.
