actually no, it can be worse.......
But to be honest: the number 1 thing that any person should learn first off is to be 100% content or happy in their own skin and by themselves. THEN you can be happy with someone else. If you rely on anyone else to be happy, or "not lonely" you're doomed.

Those kind of customers are very common and are always the ones who make a huge fuss and complain about pathetic things or invent imagined slurs or rudeness from team members because they sit in silence for the whole meal and the 15 minute wait for food seems like an unbearable eternity. I guess that’s the tragi-comedy of the sketch and why it’s so funny really. I mean it’s the truth or authenticity in it. It’s really sad but at the same time life is a comedy for those that think and a tragedy for those that feel as they say. And this sketch kind of gets at both of these things. I mean it’s observational and that’s it’s strength… it’s really sad though.

This is the kind of couple you read about in the papers or see on the local news after the wife has stabbed her husband 117 times. And when interviewed, their neighbours say:
_"Quiet couple, kept themselves to themselves, really. They've lived nextdoor-but-one for over 20 years, I suppose. We used to nod at one another while mowing our lawns or washing the car, but we didn't really know them. Nothing like this ever happens round here."_

I couldn't talk to girls for ages. I forced myself to while I was at uni because I realised if it would only become harder to learn later. I probably came off a bit strange for the first 100 times. Probably still do to be honest lol, but if I want a girlfriend, I can get one. Try tinder too. You get a lot of practice seeing what conversations are interesting, what where is the line between coming off too weak/strong. Find something rare you're passionate about so you can carry a conversation if the girl is shy / doesn't talk much. For me it's philosophy, economics, and stand-up comedy. Then there's basic stuff you like that can help start a conversation: movies, TV shows, games, animals.
You've got to try talking to girls and be willing to embarrass yourself for 100 conversations before you have a good one. If you can't even talk to other guys, learn to talk to guys first.

It’s the Irish way too. And to the system ⚠️ as a whole too. I think people marry too young and they don’t even know themselves yet. They don’t understand who they are and they inevitably grow and change and evolve and they don’t understand who the other person is anymore. They have nothing in common. And they drift apart. He would be an abuser in real life though. He’s very hurtful in what he says. We don’t understand the complexities and subtext in what has really transpired between them.

I couldn’t for the life of me figure out why my dad married my mom. Then, she at 61 began a quick downhill slide because of a rare brain disease. My dad did EVERYTHING for my mom until the day she died, at home, in her favorite chair, at 65. Why did he love her? I don’t know. But he did, and no one should’ve questioned that. Especially their kid. I’ve always been sad about that. Aren’t I lucky he was such a great husband to my mom!?!

This was my parents before they divorced. They had nothing in common. My mother met someone else and left my father, and he was mainly aggrieved that the man she left him for was a van driver. He found it outrageous that she’d rather be with a van driver than him, an accountant. She married him and they were together for 24 years before she died. I don’t know if she was truly happy even with her new husband, but at least they talked to each other.
I’ve been married to my husband for 33 years, and 3 kids and many ups and downs later, we are closer than ever. Our kids say we still act like teenagers when we start riffing off one another. The thing is, it takes effort to nurture a relationship, and I think some people just can’t be bothered. If I thought we were going to end up like that, I’d leave him tomorrow. We only get one life and we shouldn’t waste it being miserable with someone we despise.

But what people forget is that marriage is a commitment, and you’re going to go through a lot with your partner. This happens to couples that married purely out of the "necessity" to marry and out of pressure from their parents and society. This type of emotionless relationship is more common amongst eldery couples because back in the day marriage wasn't an option, but an absolute must. If someone failed to get married before they turn 20, people started to think that something is wrong with this person and if someone failed to get married before they turn 25, they became an outcast of society and it was almost impossible to get someone to marry you at this age because you were labelled as being to old to get children. At least that's what my grandparents and other eldery people told me. So many couples didn't had much time to get to know each other before they decided to mary. They were in a hurry. The real sad part is that they probably realised early on that they married the wrong person, but divorce was also not an option back than if you didn't wanted to end up as an outcast.

They made me remember a couple I knew in a hospital, the man had been operated on, his wife was coming to visit him every day. They didn't talk. She sat next to the bed, took a magazine out of her bag and read, he filled out crossword puzzles during the time she was there. Thus they remained during the two hours of the visit. Not a single word except good evening and goodbye.

Sometimes people are so content with each other that not much has to be spoken at all

I just love how the wife doesn't react when her husband pours tea in her lap :D

Just watched the sketch: “Little Britain - Happy Couples” A friend asked me, once, if I ever regretted not getting Married!! I said that I can feel lonely in a crowded room. I am fine with my own company. Watching this sketch 📺 Made me realise how fortunate I am. It is interesting that the husband does all the talking, but has nothing to say!! The wife’s silence speaks volumes!!🌞

Everyone feels sorry for him, while I think I'd have her exact facial expression, being with someone that's constantly narrating everything for decades.
Would be fun if he walked off, someone else talked to her and she'd be all animated, happy and chatty 😁

The sad thing is that couples similar to this exist. People are so stuck on the idea that they should not divorce, no matter what, that they actually stay in that one bad relationship. Some people stay together for the rest of their lives and can be quite happy. I don't think this is very common. It's not as common as people would like to think, that's for sure. Most of us will fall in and out of love many times during our lives, and there's nothing bad in that nor should it be fought against. People should neither be stuck with the idea that monogamy is the only way to go. But when you find a person you really want to be with (and you shouldn't stay with someone you don't) you need to work to make that relationship work. After all it would be nice to have a person beside you that knows you though and through, that takes care of you and you care for them. If a relationship is not like this or heading this way, then something should be done about it.

I'd rather die in a retirement home than wait around and die spending my last days like this couple, but most seniors do and it's depressing.
