How To Make Home Style Goulash | Amy Roloff's Little Kitchen

  • I remember growing up with a version of this dish. I loved it then and have made it for my kids when they were growing up and here it is today, a slightly different version of it. I call it ‘Home Style’ because it isn’t considered true Hungarian Goulash. Which is more like a stew but ‘we Americans’ or I should say I, typically have ground beef and pasta. This is full of rich hearty flavors and it is so good. I hope you like this version of Goulash.

Hi Amy, We just made Hungarian Goulash for the first time. It came out so delicious 😋 my 26 year old son cooks dinner with me every night, he Loves to cook, so that is a big help to me. I am 55 years old and at 48 in 2015 I was diagnosed with a incurable rare cancer on my spine which makes it very difficult for me to stand fr longer than 5 minutes. I use a bar height chair to sit by the stovetop and cook, but having my Sons help is a blessing. I liked to use the Smoked Paprika in any dish that calls for Paprika, it is the best!!! I will try your version of Goulash next time. I put the broth in the cans also to get out every bit of tomatoes or juices left in the bottom of the cans!! I am going to look through your videos I am looking for a good Chili recipe. Thanks for your videos and Love seeing you doing a cooking vlog. Take Care 👋😊❤

My husband and I have been married 35 years. I made this a couple of weeks ago for him. His mother had to feed four hungry boys and this was her go too. I don’t use green pepper because she didn’t use it. I cut the onion in big dice and only use 🍅 sauce and S&P. He loves it, they ate it once a week. YUK!

Yea, we can hear it or I can. You know, that green pepper really makes the dish. Goulash was my favorite meal growing up. When I started making it, I left out the green pepper and it had no flavor! I'm back to adding the green pepper. lol

    Hiii Amy!!
I'm a huuge fan!! I LOVE & ENJOY watchin yr cooking channel!! As I was watching this goulash video... I miight have to give you a tip!! So... I watched you toss in the meat... RIGHT ON THE VEGETABLES... iii criiinged!! Um... In my latin culture, we wld brown & flavor the meat... PRIOR to introducing it to the vegetables... actually... the MEAT... Is the most important part of this dish... meaning... you cook it & season it to its specialty "FIRST" before introducing the VEGETABLES. LOL... NEXT! I watched as you tossed in the noodles OVERR the meat & vegetables...😳...☝😬... umm... my advice... Brown those noodles with the SAME spices you used for everything else... then... boil them... for 15 minutes... let them sit for another 15 to rise... THEN!! AS THEY ARE READY TO ABSORB EVERYTHING & ANYTHING!! YOU INTRODUCE THE NOODLES TO THE MEAT & VEGETABLES!! OMGOODNESS!! YOU WILL NEEEEVERRR EAT GOULASH AS YOU COOKED IT IN THIS VIDEO!! YOU WILL ABSOLUTELY "LOVE"!! THIS GOULASH!! & NEVER GO BACK!! I wld also add a diced potato, celery, leaks, an entire clove of garlic ((Just toss that bad boy iN the meat!! & let it do its THING... AS YOU ADD MORE IN, the flavors ALL COME ALIVE!!)) oregano w cilantro; a dash a dash... ok... try... teaspoons, if a big mix... try tablespoons... you WILL ABSOLUTELY LOVE this recipe!
In myy family goulash, we also add diced olives & rinsed black beans OR if not ground beef... then shredded beef! 🤌UHH!! THEE BEESSTT!! *BUT... to each... his own 😁👍
    HAPPY EATING EVERYONE!!

And by the way, beside this food in the video is not being Goulash at all, because just the paprica (red sweet pepper) will not make it Goulash, the correct way to spell it is GULYÁS. Definitely no pasta and no ground meat in it. FOR SURE. Here is the authentic recipe:
    3 tablespoons oil or lard.
    5 medium onions, diced.
    2 1/2 teaspoons salt.
    2 1/2 liters (2 1/2 quarts) water, plus a few extra spoonfuls.
    3 tablespoons Hungarian paprika (sweet)
    1/2 teaspoon black pepper.

Originally gulyás was a food of shepherds out alone in the wilderness, in the boondocks with their animals, that's why it was so simple, there was no fancy pasta or ground meat in it. Just the basics, onion, meat, and red pepper and water and what ever they can pull out of the ground, like potato, different carrots... that's all... GULYÁS is actually the name of the HERDSMAN.
Anyway, I was addressing this to Amy, not to a lot of cynical ignorant commentator who has no respect to other people's culture and tradition.

Most celebrity women keep their famous names because it's how they earn their money. Husband's of celebrity women are perfectly fine with it and they accept their wives business decisions about marketing strategies from the start. People should leave her alone about it.
