Lyrics:
Listen now to the wind babe
Listen now to the rain
Feel that water lickin' at my feet again
I don't want to see this town no more
Wastin' my days on a factory floor
First thing you know I'll be back in Bow River again
Anytime you want babe, you can come around
But only six days separates me and the great top end
I been working hard, tweleve hours a day
And the money I saved won't buy my youth again
Goin' for the heat babe, and a tropical rain
In a place where no man's puttin' on the dog for me
Waitin' on the weekend, set o' brand new tyres
And back in Bow River's just where I want to be
Listen now to the wind babe
Listen now to the rain
Feel that water lickin' at my feet again
I don't want to see this town no more
Too many years made up my mind to go or stay
Right to my dying day
I don't want to see another engine line
Too many years and I owe my mind
First set o' wheels headin' back Bow River again
First thing you know I'll be back in Bow River again
Got the motor runnin', got the rest of my days
Sold everything I owned for a song
So anytime you want babe, you can come around
But don't leave it too late you just might find me gone
Listen now to the wind babe . . .
I don't need the score
I'm goin' through the door
Gonna tell the man I don't want no more
Pick up a fast car and burn my name in the road
One week two week maybe even more
Piss all my money up against the damn wall
First thing you know I'll be back in Bow River again
This is the only song my severely autistic, non verbal 7 year old boy dances to. He literally stops in his tracks and goes into a trance. Amazing
That’s magic ❤
so cute!
That may well be true but Christ did it make me laugh, best of luck with your son, we're all human
I Love this story about your son I am 63 just found out 18 month's ago I have very bad ADHD I knew I had something my friend's used to call me manic as in always full of electricity highwired then I would crash for 2 day's them full on again and I always dance and sing out loud to this song makes so much sense God Bless You and your Beautiful Son and family baci x
I have a fully Autistic Step Neice she is 22 now non verbal only sings to song's and is obsessed to the song's JANUARY and MAGIC by the English 70's band PILOT she joined the Music Maker's in Sydney Australia when she was about 12 that's where she learnt to sing well sort of the best thing ever to happen to her baci x
I love just finding an amazing song out of the blue, apparently Australia was kicking ass in the 80s.
And you are surprised? It had simply an AMAZING live music scene. Especially in Melbourne. I grew up with this. I feel blessed.
@@drunacres Me too!! Great bands every weekend across Melbourne, I am so grateful that I was born where and when I was. The live music scene was incredible and I would give anything to go back and do it again. A great free time in my life, no responsibilities, just finding out who was playing where and deciding where to go.
Haha just play it loud man yeah lot of awesome Aussie Rock
Melbourne was the best place to be for music in the 70’s and 80’s. The most difficult decision of my week was which bands to go and see every weekend. Just a great time and place to be alive! We were so lucky!!!!
Lucky duck xo keep up the good work :)
I dare anybody to play this song while driving at 80 Km/h, on a country road and not be doing 120 by the end of the solo.
Easily done 😁
Hahah mate the radio does it all the time to me ffs
🤣😂😅
Only if you're on drugs or a complete f....wit
Liking it Bro
I picked up on great Australian and NZ music after being an exchange student in 1980 in NZ. Returning home to US, it was a struggle to always find the imports. Fortunately I found a guy that had great connections. I’d be jamming to Cold Chisel, Australian Crawl, Mondo Rock, Split Enz, Mental as Anything and Icehouse -and friends thought I was nuts, until they too became fans.
Now that is a high quality playlist, right there!
Great taste mate.
Music ambassador ! Nice.👍 .........🦘
You mightt have missed gangajang, inxs, powderfinger, the angels, the Mark of Cain, the saints. Cosmic psychos, Billy Thorpe and the aztecs, midnight oil, the skyhooks, Joan jett, the radiators, the butterfly effect and cog to name just a few.
Onya mate/bro
Cuzzy/cuzo
Dave Blight on harmonica adds so much to this classic tune.
Thanks mate -was about to ask who was hatted harp guy...nice wailing licks ✌
Ian Moss Underrated Singer & Guitarists!! My Favourite Cold Chisel Song!!👍😉
I agree on both counts. Mossy showed he is all class when he went solo. Best Chisel song
He played back seat to Jimmy
the money i saved won't buy my youth again.............
when music was music. RIP rock'n'roll.
Barnes / Moss. The rough and the smooth. THAT'S why Chisel was so very exceptionally good.
Jimmy Barnes and Ian Moss. Their voices compliment each other perfectly
Holy shit, I didn't know I could hold my breath for over 5 minutes. This is some serious ass kickin' music. Well done, Aussies.
It was always bit a shame Cold Chisel never really made it outside of Oz, cos in Australia these guys where monster huge, and still considered on of the most important ozzie bands of all time.
oh the entire COvId virus mask wearing thing. what the fuck is wrong with everyone in sydney. the flouride . i don't know.
piss off mate
If you like Cold Chisel then check out Jimmy Barnes solo stuff , Australian Crawl , Hunters and Collectors, The Angels and Paul Kelly
yewwwww is all we do. come have a beer
Ian Moss,a truly modest guy...class act on stage ! 👌
"I been working hard, twelve hours a day
And the money I saved won't buy my youth again"
Actually so true.
In my opinion this is the definitive version of Bow River. Check out those killer harmonies in the beginning of the song. Barnsey and Mossy had voices that perfectly complemented each other.
It's the right version, but is it missing a solo? Or am I mixing it up with another version? I mean this is *definitely* the right version, no question. They tried to recreate the magic but never quite topped it.
Agreed. the original album version doesn't come anywhere close.
This live version was the one which they included on the 1991 compilation album "Chisel".
Isn’t this the live version from the Last Stand DVD /Video recorded during one of their last gigs at this Sydney Entertainment Centre about 1983???
@@bogan-slayer7469 Yes, it's a combination of two of their last gigs in 1983.
@@Cynwidion That’s because Chisel was, in heart and mind, a full blooded live band. I read Barnesey’s autobiographies and he explained that they only ever felt at home on stage, not in the studio
Mossy had great vocals and probably should have been the front man of Cold Chisel
The money I save won’t buy my youth again...live by that and hasn’t done me wrong yet 😂
The BEST Australian song of all time sung by the BEST Australian band EVER!
Simple music can make you sing simple hug can make you feel better simple things can make you happy, i hope my simple Hello brings smile to your face
Ian moss is a fkn legend.❤
I've came to Australia nine years ago and never heard of Cold Chisel before that. Now I love them - this song is my favourite!
welcome! and I'm glad you like the music :-)
Always good to hear of outsiders enjoying our country and our music. And you got good taste this my favourite song of theirs too.
Where are you from mate?
Welcome and thank you for acknowledging our best band. This song brings tears to my eyes, and I was born in 1981 lol
Make yourself comfy my friend and start listening to some AC/DC, Hunters and Collecters, Hoodo Gurus, Midnight Oil, Aussie Crawl, Noiseworks, Screaming Jets I mean the list is endless this is just to get you started on our way of life...oh and also Mossys solo work, Jimmy Barnes solo work and his sidekick Diesel, shit son you got homework haha
One of the best songs ever, fucking love this band!
Grab a copy of BLOOD MOON and look up GETTING THE BAND BACK TOGETHER on here in the meantime . They are back and they're still kicking butt
the money i saved won't buy my youth again.............
Glennie B oh yes i Never thought looking back at such good times could hurt me so much.
Every day I think about that line, reminds me not to work too hard, enjoy the good times as they come.
Heck yes I feel that but it did buy me the chance at an education, late in life
So
There is no greater period of rock in Australia than the 80’s, lead by the great Cold Chisel.
Hi. How are you doing. Hope you are fine and enjoying your day today.
FkN A. Truth.
Your response was lame. Nothing about Cold Chisel or Bow River. Maybe you start your own band. You could call it The Lame Arses.
Particularly the early 80s (for me at least.) So many great Aussie bands during that particular time period (and NZ artists too.)
@anzaeria I agree with you. It was a great time for Aussie music.
Thank You very much #AmylandtheSniffers for offering this wonderful band to the world!
Barnes / Moss. The rough and the smooth. THAT'S why Chisel was so very exceptionally good.
After all these years, it still gives me goosebumps. Bloody legends.
Fucking brilliance personified.
I can smell my dads garage just from this song 🎵
G'day lads, welcome back, great Musicians are visionaries at the same time, this very day!
I came to Melbourne, Victoria Australia in 1980.
Went to a Cold Chisel Concert in 1980 at Festival Hall in Dudley Street, West Melbourne, I was 23 then and 68 now and still love Jimmy Barnes👍😎👍
Keep Rockin old mate.👍😎👍
@Jane Seymour Saw them a week ago today in Canberra , bloody brilliant . Bought their new CD on Monday and it hasn't been out of the car stereo since
I was there!
Brilliant.
Well I'm known as a bit ruff but Jimmy is my kinda bloke
I was here too !! Used to lived on Kilda Beach !! Greetings from France !!!
That was fun.
If your damn nursing home won't let me play Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Deep Purple and Cold Chisel (no particular order there) real loud, then I'm just not going there! A little bit of Akka Dakka 'd be nice too, and maybe one or two Oils classics.
I just wanted to say thank you Cold Chisel - We love you for the beautiful memories you have left in our minds. I am 61 years old now and you do wonder where the years have gone. Your music is timeless and I thank you for the pleasure of listening to your songs.
New album out called BLOOD MOON , grab a copy , you'll be glad you did (y)
Your welcome, now help the Kids, & Join Liabilitymate
Simple music can make you sing simple hug can make you feel better simple things can make you happy, i hope my simple Hello brings smile to your face,,,,
Best chiisel song ever. I luv this
Especially being a fellow north Queensland error.
Best rock group ever. Holy shit this is amazing.
Dazza Howard
They were a GREAT PUB band just like 99.9% of AUSSIE Bands
Where's all the talented musicians gone, now were listening shit like the Baker boy's and the crew!????
The guy on the harmonica makes the song with Mossy, love the harmonica!!
30 odd years ago, arrived in Oz for studies and Cold Chisel was the introduction to many of the best of Aussie home grown music. Still loving them today.
seeing Chisel in full force is awesome, when they are on song, no one can beat them.
Mossy always was the best thing about Cold Chisel.
Barnes / Moss. The rough and the smooth. THAT'S why Chisel was so very exceptionally good.
I never get bored reliving my teenage years, listing to this amazing bad. Thanks for the memories!
This version is so much better than the studio version. The harmonica adds so much more to the song, and it's a faster tempo than the studio version which is the cherry on top
most live versions are better ,they put their heart and souls in to them
There's a reason the studio version didn't do too well as a single, but the live version did. The studio version is decent enough, but the live version has so much more dynamism and energy to it, whereas the studio version feels like they're holding back.
Different, not better.
The best chisel song of all time.
the money i saved won't buy my youth again.............
when music was music. RIP rock'n'roll.
I never get bored reliving my teenage years, listing to this amazing bad. Thanks for the memories!
you old bruh!!!....but even tho i'm younger than you I love 80's music...I am secretly jealous
A true anthem 😭
when music was music. RIP rock'n'roll.
Most dangerous driving song ever!
I never get bored reliving my teenage years, listing to this amazing bad. Thanks for the memories!
Ian Moss plays a HOT guitar!!! DAYUM!
Ian Moss plays a HOT guitar!!! DAYUM!

when music was music. RIP rock'n'roll.
The time when aussies were aussies, ruff and ready anytime.
God how I love this song! Whenever I have a crap day at work I crank this up in my car on the way home and belt out the song with Mossy and Jimmy. It has kept me sane for many, many years. AND I LOVE THAT HARMONICA!!!
+Sheryl Everett ..I totally agree Sheryl, this song can re-align the stressed out cogs in ya head like nothing else can. Smooth, loud, fast, haunting, emotive...it's got everything. I like the way Jimmy sings a quieter support harmony for Ian, those guys are way cool !!!
I've always loved this song , arguably the best song on Circus Animals . Its great the way Jimmy backs up Ian .
I think that is where Barnsey is at his best , backing or harmonizing with Mossy or Richard Clapton or anyone .
How about Phil's bass ? So funky and spot on . He is is one of the great rock and roll ( Blues style ) bass players
ever . I reckon he could fit in with any of the great rock bands .
One of the greatest Aussie songs of all time!!!
I only googled this song as it’s the theme tune for the Aussie Export TV show, Outback Truckers and I couldn’t hear all the lyrics. The tv programme should have its own theme tune. This is a great track played live on stage, wish id been in the audience!
Classic Australian hit
So lucky to have had a Bow River back to which to go.
Only way to listen to this song is fucking loud. Love love it
Used to fly over property in the kimberlies to work . Where mossy wrote tis songs. Was bo river station. His brother or something worked there. He liked it. Visiting.
How good is that!!!! Been 25 years since I listen to Jimmy or Chisel. That song sounds even better. Aged well.
Still goes gard iver 40 years later. I did a half decent impromptu version of this at work on friday night and my mate gave me the hest compliment, he said it felt like he was at the pub!
The time when aussies were aussies, ruff and ready anytime.
Best rock group ever. Holy shit this is amazing.
The most underrated guitarist, vocalist. song writer in Aussie history. Luv him.
One of my favourite songs ever. Reminds me of being a kid in a country town. Wanting to be free of it. Wanting to stay in it. Loving and hating it. I am older now. Song still makes me feel nostalgic.
This was the song that I'd throw on the jukebox to get me pumping when I played the pool comps at Blackwater in the early 80s. This song, no matter what album, live, or studio, just rocks. This and Goodbye (Astrid Goodbye) is another awesome chisel track.
Blinder of a song, Mossy can really kick some arse!
😘😘
Hi. How are you doing. Hope you are fine and enjoying your day today.
Two amazing vocalists a wailing harmonica, rock at its pinnacle
Ian Moss plays a HOT guitar!!! DAYUM!
Mossy always was the best thing about Cold Chisel.
I saw Cold Chisel in the Darwin amphitheatre last December, it was still 30 degrees when they came on stage at 9pm.
I'd definitely go and see them again but nothing will ever beat the pure Aussie experience of listening to songs like Bow River and Khe Sahn in the Darwin heat. It was such a great night!
KellyJayneAustralia shit i didnt even realize they played here DAMNIT I MISSED THEM
This song reminds me of the Territory
Simple music can make you sing simple hug can make you feel better simple things can make you happy, i hope my simple Hello brings smile to your face
Mum & dad music
And my kids love it
Enjoy !!!!millenials !
Hello. How are you doing. Hope you are fine and enjoying your day today.
i was 16 and snuck into the largs pear hotel and got 15min before i got thrown out but i will never forget what i saw that night.
Onya Vince.
We used to call that place Number 96 when we were kids...
@@gusmif why?
@@nathanielpillar8012 back in the '70s there was a raunchy drama on channel 10 called Number 96. The Largs Pier reminded us of the apartment building the show was based around
@@gusmif thanks
The greatest pub rock and roll band of them all.
Real AUSSIE rock. The Americans have got nothing on AUSSIE bands. Cold Chisel, AC/DC, Midnight oil, The Angels, Men at Work.....
Dragon and Models, too :D
Whoa whoa half those bands you mentioned are from New Zealand!. Had enough of you Aussie's claiming our stuff for yourselves.
Apologies PM ScroMo, I didn't do the read more. Too many after work beers and short cut reading
Is t the singer Scottish?
@@markblakeway80 WTF are you on about.
❤MASTERPIECE ❤
Im so lucky this was the soundtrack to my youth, Oz music in 70's and 80's was unique. WE know how to rock
Yes indeed. These days, I go to pubs, and the live music is one half thud-thud-thud from a really large drum kit, and the other half of it is vocals, if you're lucky a lead guitar, and a backing track with the rest of the instruments on it. :-( I'd rather than drum kit be on a backing track, turned down, and the guitars, bass and keyboards live. Oh, and Barnesy isn't a screamer compared to a lot of what's out there, that IS just screaming without really much at all in the way of melody being sung in between. Angry fast-spoken bad beat poetry to me does not a song make, either. You know a band or artist isn't fully there musically when they have to depend on gimmicks like backup dancers picking them up and carrying them around stage to create a show.
How the real old boys get down at the pub shakin the whole place blasting this on 17 whiskeys 7shots of whiskey just let the vibrations play out big fella 😉 👍
everyones got their own bow river and thats why everyone feels this song..
Could not be more right
the money i saved won't buy my youth again.............
when music was music. RIP rock'n'roll.
Best rock group ever. Holy shit this is amazing.
I only found this song/group because of the discovery channel. They're using it as the theme to the programme 'Outback Truckers'. As a truck driver myself I downloaded the album straight away and will be playing it on the long lonely highway next week. Thank god for random songs from random tv shows
Jimmy Barnes (singing with Ian Moss here) did a song "Driving Wheels" it's basically THE truck driving anthem here in Australia.
@@goodshipkaraboudjan can't forget slims truckin songs, under the spell of highway one probably one of his most known but from here to there and back

Nothings Changed M8!
Nothing changed, gotta know where to go bud 🇦🇺🍺
We're still like that
When bands spent time making songs and music as opposed to time spent in a beauty salon and in front of a computer.
Too right, Reg.
Australia's version of the blues crossed with some good old fashioned rock n roll
What a under appreciated Talent in that band, What a outstanding Voice and the guitar playing Just magic!!!!!!!!! Not Under appreciated by the Band, But certainly by the punters!!!
Ian Moss is a God to many.
Hello. How are you doing. Hope you are fine and enjoying your day today.

Australian (Pub) rock at its absolute pinnacle!
So sad when the pub rock scene died (let's call it late 80s). So many memories of Balmain pubs shifting on their foundations.
That was the best song ever! I'll certainly be listening to that again
Mossy always was the best thing about Cold Chisel.
I miss the days when someone would throw a bucket of water at the mosh pit knowing we’re all cooking ❤️❤️
Chisel at their finest. Thanks for the memories, boys. Cheers :)
My hometown of Adelaide has produced so much talent. Im proud to be an Adeladian. I love my city.

underrated song by an underrated band - emotion, melody, passion - you want great songs you got em!!!!!!!

Certainly not underrated in Australia though.. America tried to tell them how they wanted them to be. Barnsey replied with 'You go nothing I want'
Agree with Andrew not at all underated in Australia

Top 10 greatest Aussie songs. Love Mossy!
Copy that last comment brother, I hit this song in the unrestricted speed zone in the NT....chasing a high way patrol car. Best 200km to Alice Springs. Woo hoo
Same lived in Oz for 6 year this still does it. Lump in the throat... Feel that water licking at my feet again! Unreal
Such a massively under rated band. One of the greatest of all time. Anywhere. Period. These guys were truly talented.
Aussie rock at it’s finest
I LOVE THIS SHIT!!!!!!!
It's a bit better than shit.
