I know it's weird to say but this is and will always be my favourite 'Christmas song' . I don't live in Australia anymore, and it just makes me homesick, in a good way. Yeah, the Hills hoist decorated in tinsel, the hot day that won't stop the massive roast that's still prepared and eaten and the Christmas hats that end up soaked with sweat, even the blow flies buzzing around and the high pitched mozzie in your ear at night. ( Those were the two things that made me realise I was too homesick to stay away any longer. Missing blowflies and mozzies! Nice Aussie tune Paul Kelly.
Reminds me of calling my family from prison on all those Christmas days spent missing them, escaping for 6 mins hearing everyone having fun and being merry. Beautiful song.

I had the pleasure of meeting PK nearly 12 months ago, he is the nicest bloke. I was very lost for word's but I thanked him for his great music and performances, wasn't sure if he would say yes to a selfie, my word he said yeah of course mate. Proudest moment for me and will never forget that day.
His music has been apart of my life for 30 plus years it's also has helped me through some bad times and depression.

I heard this live when Paul Kelly toured with Niel Finn years ago, and i can tell you not one person in the crowd made a single noise until the song was finished. Truly an incredible song.

Met Paul Kelly last year in a shopping centre. Wearing shorts and a T-shirt. I said "Heh! You look like that dude Paul Kelly". He said. "Probably because I am". I fanboyed embarrassingly before I realised that he probably wanted to be rid of me and I said goodbye. Must suck arse to be a celebrity and have everyone fawn over you but I couldn't help it.
He was super humble and appreciateive. Fucking legend if you ask me. Not only a great singer/songwriter but pretty chill dude too. Came across to me as just a normal dude doing his shit, just like the rest of us.. No airs or graces, just a bloke doing his shopping. I'm a HUGE fan. Seen him play several times in Sydney, with and without Vicka and Linda Bull. Never disappoints.
Oh, and don't forget Peter Bull on Keyboards. He was the musical glue that held them all together IMHO.

Christmas last year I was 1500km from my family and friends, up at work in the Pilbara WA. This song was played loud at our work dinner and drinks that night at our FIFO camp for all that couldn’t be with their loved ones. Thankful this year myself and my workmates will be flying back home Christmas Eve morning and you’re damn right this song will be playing when I’m just about to land and on Christmas Day. Love to all on a challenging year it has been!

Well Ian was absolutely stoked and me too. He died not long after and I played “To her door” at his funeral that is our song. ♥️
