Also, if nobody knows this, the first gen Durango and second gen Dakota has a built in code reader, turn the key from off to on (don't start it) 3 times and on the 3rd time leave it in the on position and watch the odometer, it'll show you all your codes.... you can also do the same thing but 5 times if I remember right, and it'll do a gauge and warning light check where you can see if all warning lights and gauges are functioning properly

I bought my 2002 5.9 RT-V8 7 years ago from a dealership and it ran great till around 3 months after we bought it. Since then we have put a $2,000 new transmission, replaced sensors as they crapped out, replaced hoses as they burst, had to get a new catalytic converter, Radiator, external fan to keep the engine cooled, distributor cap, wires plugs, you name it. My power windows work only 20% of the time, the rear heating has never worked, the seat heaters quit working, the list goes on...... I was just under the hood replacing the crankshaft position sensor last night and it STILL wouldnt fire up, it makes total sense though now. That brain (ECM-PCM) is the first chain of command that all that crap had to go through before it was screwed with and failed to perform. My Durango is precious to me, it has a lot of sentimental value. I taught all my kids how to drive using my Durango. Except for the youngest who is 8 years old but I hope this idea works because if so I see the family tradition being continued. Just wanted to let you know that I really appreciate you posting an update, I looked around for an update video and couldnt find one, watching it gave me some much needed hope for my durango's future! I know how people can get connected to their cars. I have never had a car that was so hard to fix like the Durango has been. But my daughter still drives it, but while she drives the lights come on and off. The radio plays and stops. Interior lights flash the dash go completely blank then on again, BUT the car stays running lol. So she keeps driving it. Good Luck, patience is the name of your game.
@@josaljo1 found the whole source of the issue. You have to read this. It's going to blow your mind. I'm just in shock. I'm getting the cord and going to use my smart phone to get the subscription so I can reflash the PROM chip. This is in the 1993-2003 PCMs. I build computers. I'm very very familiar with this process. Everytime somthing is upgraded this has to be done. It's such a horrible pain that it was discontinued. But just like your cell phone auto updates its programs and new apps, the PCM has to be updated (only if it's not an aftermarket PCM.) when somthing is serviced whether it be spark plugs, crankshaft sensor or camshaft sensors, all the way to fuses, if its aftermarket from the 2003 and earlier, the PROM chip in the PCM that holds the readable memory for all codes, tries cycling codes continuously untill it doesnt get an error code back, which if new codes were never downloaded to the PCM through the manufacturer's website then it never stops cycling and causes codes to pop up that have no meaning and that causes the diagnostics to basically go haywire and start misfireing codes and that causes other sensors that were fine before, to go out. So multiple issues one source. A dinasour old computer that in a lot of cases is not worth the over haul to get aftermarket PCM because your wireing and vin# which goes on the permanent invoice of the vehicle so every time this happens it's better to get the new codes and just update it. It has the directions on this link I'm adding. I've been wondering why the entire 7 years I've had this Durango, something new kept malfunctioning. The OTHER COOL THING is that these have a fuse to protect them from being damaged by hot or cold, or shorting. I had a similar problem with my 99 Durango randomly shutting down. Mechanic assumed it was a fuel pump issue. After he replaced that, the problem still persisted. He didn't want to touch it after that, cause it had to be an electrical issue. Took a chance and purchased a re manufactured pre-flashed pcm on ebay for around $200, did not work. They sent me 3 different pcm's and could not get the coding right, kept giving my NO BUS. Luckily they refunded me since they couldn't get it right. I let it sit for another year, and was gonna try a pcm from NAPA. The sucker cost over $500 without pre-flash. I'm in a small town, no one has an engine coder but the big dealerships. I took one more chance on another guy on ebay, just searched the exact part number. Guy looked to have good reviews, and for a re manufactured pcm for $118, it worked. Just plug in and started up.
I've had my 1999 Dodge Durango 5.9L since 2004. The "no bus" reading being indicated on the mileage odometer several times (PCM -programable computer module has failed). Also, the engine may start, but will soon stall out. After a few occurrences, I took the Durango to a mechanic. Early on Dodge replaced the first one under warranty. Back then, $1300 for the job. After the 8 year power train warranty ran out, I certainly started looking for other options. I also found the same PCM repair shop mentioned in the Josalijo Won video. They did a great job repairing it at a great price. I reinstalled it and it worked great for several years. I sent it back for a "new" repair, and they said it was too fried inside, but they sent me a replacement which I kept as a "spare" for several years. After I was told that my PCM had fried, I acquired another PCM from a shop in Long Island, New York. This one has also been running great for 2 years. Now in January 2020, my engine stalled going to work. The engine will start, but will not maintain idle, and will not run unless you keep your foot on the gas pedal. It may not be the PCM this time, but I'll try the spare to know for sure. My Dodge only has 135K miles on it, gets only 12 MPG, but it is fun to drive. Obviously, the engineers missed something when they designed this PCM. The repair shop stated that the circuits pull away from the circuit board due to the heat under the engine hood. Also, a few electronic components are notorious to fail. Still lovin' my Generation 1 Dodge Durango! I still see so many on the road running.
I swapped out the PCM with another (supposedly a good one). The engine wouldn't even start now. Put the original PCM back in, engine started running normally again. On the first and second day later, the engine started and ran normally. On the third day, the engine would start, but you had to keep your foot on the gas pedal again. This time I got a check engine light with a code P0505 (Idle Air Control Valve circuit malfunction.) I went bought an IAC Valve for $43. Changed it out and starts and runs great immediately. I'm putting the truck on probation for 1 week to gain trust in it being reliable again. Let it run in the driveway for an hour. Drive it up and down my street for 30 minutes. Drive it around the block for 15 minutes. Finally, drive it down the freeway for about 30 minutes. If no problems, then I can trust it to get me back and forth to work each day, 25 miles roundtrip. Crossing my fingers. Still loving my (7 passenger) 1999 Dodge Durango 4x4 Generation ONE!

He replaced the fuel pump and didnt put gas in it he sent the computer to SIA... they said it was bad but he reinstalled it and i ended up sending it to the dealship . The said the first mechanic couldnt keep it started because it had no gas .
More than likely they replaced the voltage regulator on the circuit board inside the computer, they're notorious for going out, most often recommend installing a '70's style external voltage regulator to help prevent the one on the factory computer from taking a dump, and causing more problems.
Yes, this is exactly what I did on my step daughters 2005 Durango. I installed an external voltage regulator for $24 plus some wiring and connectors. To avoid replacing the PCM for several hundred dollars. Why does Chrysler put the voltage regulator in the main computer? I don’t know, but I can guess that it is because it makes them more money. Other car makers (GM, Ford, etc) put the voltage regulator in the ALTERNATOR…. DUH! Way to go Chrysler.
I have a 2000 Dakota V6 4WD with 80k on it,so far no problems like that! I always thought the ECM was located inside the cabin on the passenger side kick panel. I guess I learned something new tonight! I've watched about 30 videos in the last couple of weeks about various problems with their Dakota/Durangos. In one video our in the comments,someone mentioned that if you remove the bolts & use washers to shorten the depth of the bolts,it will also cure that problem. Apparently those bolts being too long grounds out&creates a short. Even that person said it sounded crazy to him,but he tried it anyway & it worked.
I have had the ECU fail on several Dakotas and DUrangos of the first and second generation. I always start with the ECU now. They have a special ECU for high altitude models.
This video really helped me with my Durango. it has done the exact same thing as what you described. Thanks for posting as this can help many people with this problem. Dodge should have taken care of this issue. This is the reason why I choose not to ever buy anymore of Dodge broken cars
I have a 2002 thats never gave me an issue besides replacing common wear items. You really shouldnt kick a brand to the curb over one little thing. Now if youre like my family and have a piece of junk f350 powerjoke and its had every sensor replaced and still has a no start issue but the next day will fire right up then a couple days later give another no start/no smoke issue as well as the previous f250 having issue after issue after issue as well as well as a 1995 f150 5.0 having issues as well as well as well as(lots of as wells huh) an 80's model 150 standard stall in gear when the manufacturer says no thats not possible then my parents almost get into an accident when it stalled in the middle of an intersection...then you can kick a brand to the curb...and i have. We had a 1998 dakota with the 318 and it was the best truck we had. Dont crap on dodge over one fault. Crap on Ford for taking their plant to mexico and removing american jobs to save money. That seems a tad bit worse than not addressing an ECM that wasnt even a big enough issue to need to address because i have been a dodge guy for years and havent even heard of the ECM failing being a thing. The only thing i heard is that on jeeps they are model specific. You cant take a 96 cherokee 4.0L and put it in a 98 body and use the ECM from the 98's motor, it has a hard time communicating with the other motor and wont start right unless you send the computer off sorta like he did here. It may be the same for durango ECM's as well where the motor and different ECM cant talk properly to eachother. I think he said it had a brand new ECM in it didnt he? Thay would make sense if i remember correctly and he said it was a brand new ECM. They sorta have to be calibrated to the new motor.
@@ratedredneck96 I bought a 4.7l 2002 last year and it was a mess. Changed nearly all the sensors and inspected and tested the others. Ran like shit. Crankcase breather were dry rotted and somebody had crushed the shit outta the air intake tubing and glued it back together on the bottom. Finally got it running kinda right and something in the fuel system just took a shit. Running outta minor parts to change. Gonna be getting in the spaghetti in the dash this weekend that the guy before me rewired.
For fuel injected gasoline engines with those symptoms, the first thing to consider is normally the Idle Air Control (IAC) valve. These things oscillate under control of the ECU to control idle air volume. The little solenoid that does the oscillation isn't particularly strong and fuel residues are sticky enough to jam the valve; typically shut. Now is could be that the IAC is one of the things you replaced. If not, then read on. The remedy is either to replace or clean the IAC. Back in year 2000, my Saab 9000 had a similar issue - the engine would start but not idle without foot on the gas pedal (though I confess I never had a backfire in the couple of days it was playing up). Anyway, for what it's worth, a friend knew a simple fix, which involved spraying an automotive solvent (Wynnes?) directly into the air intake with air filter removed and engine running at high idle, foot lightly on the pedal. The engine hated the spray and each time the revs dropped near to stalling, he stopped spraying. We did this three times in quick succession, after which the engine idled perfectly for the rest of the Saab's life. Now, on the assumption that yours was an IAC issue and given that the fix was in the ECU, my first guess would have to be that SIA Electronics' installed a circuit to boost the signal delivered to the IAC. If I'm right, then your IAC is still sticky but the IAC's solenoid is pulling stronger to overcome the stiction.
Nice. My 2005 durango had miss fire issues. Did all kinds of things. Computer injectors coil packs. Nothing worked. One day it was idling erratically. I cleaned the TPS and it fixed the miss fire. Go figure
I have a 2000 durango slt with the 5.2l v8 and it had the same problem minus the backfiring, all I did to fix it was changed the idle air control valve and the throttle position sensor. I've put 10k miles on it since then without anymore issues
Been dealing with my 1999 and I'm almost rdy to do the PCM trip to SIA as you suggested. I have not replaced a bunch of parts but testing wires looking for possible bad wire. Let ya know how mine turns out.
My 99 Durango priodically will stall out when starting, and not idle like it should. I always reset the computer when this happens and it gets everything back to normal for a while.
Thanks for posting this video. I've already done the IAC and TPS sensors. I'm dealing with the same issue right now and am going for the computer to see how that goes. Thanks especially for the part where you say it doesn't run when you shut it off... Ha! ;) ;)
pushing metal against that is a terrible idea. One drop of rain and bye bye, not to mention the added heat, which causes most of our beloved NO BUS issues. Fix leaks, test the sensors for 5v after it no bus, move the harness around in all accessible locations while its running to look for signs, check grounds, clean grounds on trans, look for shorts. Replacing the computer does nothing , cept the rare occasion it was the computer. If you dont fix the issue , or bypass it, youll just spend another 3 on a new PCM.
I bought my 1999 Durango in 2014 an the computer went out 2015 an replaced it an went out again after a few weeks an had yr warranty an replaced it could been a short but it's worked great since an now I'm not sure if it's computer again cuz been having trouble last month or so again now lock chirp went out an now my blinkers went out I may or may not need a new computer or a blinker relay but y my alarm chirp went out I'm not sure has anything do with blinkers I am disabled so I have trouble getting around my truck like I use to I have broken my neck 3 different times an my lower back once so I'm very limited on wat I can do I have no family or friends I can have help me I am 100% disabled an I help Al people I use to hang out with wen I need a lil bit help no matter wat there always bizzy so I am now on my own I won't ask anyone help an I sure as hell will never offer help to anyone ever again that used me for everything cuz I'm that person gets used an never helped I'm done ust need a lil outside help if anyone can please I would not ask but I'm at a loss an have a to take care of my 74 yro father he's a quadraplegic an my mom has severe heart an many physical problems an I have no help for me an my folks so i don't know we're to turn anymore cuz I have no money to take to shop an I can't get under my dash I live in small town an I don't have friends anymorelet them all go I'm done being used so if anyone know of sumone in Riverton Wyoming an is able to give me a hand u hav no idea wat u will b doin for me I have a to my truck for everything to do all my folks errands an if it's dead I'm dead an my folks r in trouble an I have nobody turn to! Also another fact.ppl don't know how to keep there vehicle in good maintaince.its all more than just changing oil,trans,sparks and shit like that.it also cleaning cpu,s,cleaning pcv,s,cleaning the fuel injectors etc.a lot of the times shit doesn't need to be replaced but just cleaned..its a machine and machines will run longer and better with just some care of these parts..some carb clean and some cleaner for electronics once a month will save thousands.
In an air conditioned residence/office, a fairly clean and controlled environment, computers still "blue screen", crash and lockup. In a vehicle or even an aircraft, tons of moving steel and aluminum, computers should NOT have such a vital role. The recent crashes of 737Max jets are a warning.
Nope.mine did the same thing I took all the computer parts of and just cleaned them as Well as the intake and carb.that was 1m and a half a ago.shit still runs great and idle is fine...there's 2 types of ppl,those who regularly maintainace there engine and those who do not.I shitty well maintainced engine will always run better that a good one that is poorly maintainced..thats just fact.
hello i was wondering on the bracket you made and installed on the ECM. looks like it supports the 3 plugs into the ecm. did that work or is it personal preference. after getting the ecm fixed are you still requiring that bracket. thanks in advance. good video and good info
When is running good my 98 Durango is great! To bad that's not always the case. About a week ago my 1998 5.2L 4x4 Dodge Durango was having trouble starting as would start and i give it a little gas and as soon as let of peddle would die and while trying to start it and give it a little gas thete was an oil like substance on ground leaking from Directly under the car and in between the passanger side front seat and back seat area! Ive tried fuel injector ive bought and replaced the Fuses and that worked for about 3 days and now back to do that same thing having hard time startimg and staying on! Truly am.so.sick of having car issues Nd troubles. I thought hAving no payments and getting title was best thing and truly id rather have monthly payments on new car then monthly parts and trips to mechanic!!
Anything electronics from the late 90s to early 2000s suffer from black market electrolytic capacitors from China. That's probably what they replaced. This happened mostly to asian manufacturers, especially S. Korea and Taiwan. Some companies covered under warranty some didn't. This Dodge lasted a long time (low voltage device) before it happened. This is my guess.
I have a 1999 dodge van 1500b it would die during flight till it cooled off everyone its the computer i got a used one flashed and cheep computer was three inches over engine.
What is that metal bracket on the ECM is it keeping the plugs from coming out if that is the only issue you could make one yourself. I could fabricate something like that on the cheap. Save some money??
Yes i fabbed that because the customer told me that when she wiggled the wires the car would start. But I removed the bracket after putting the fixed computer. Been running ever since.
I replaced it with an oem one from mopar. Just not sure if they refurbished it or not. Im just leaning toward the plugs/pigtails coming loose. It seems to run fine as long as they are tight.
It wont hurt to put something on to keep the wires on the terminals. But after I got my ecm back I did not need the bracket to keep the wires on. Sorry I cant give you a more specific answer.
Did you find a fix for it? My dad's 2002 Dakota stalled out this morning. So we changed the crankshaft sensor and it turned on for a few seconds then it turned off. Then we changed the distributer cap, the rotor and the coil that was in it and it wouldn't start at all. So I looked up the no bus warning in the odometer and they all pointed to the computer. But since you said that you have a new computer in it and it still stalled, I don't know if we should go and get one ourselves.

William Wells dam that sucks if you didn’t replace the camshaft positioning sensor and the crankshaft positioning sensor I would have somebody check them next if you don’t know how to yourself.after hearing you replaced your pcm and fuel pump it is highly likely to be one or both those sensors..I’m no mechanic I’ve just about heard it all dealing with my dodge.
Many times, the computer need fixing. The car to this day lights up lights, dings, and what not, BUT it stays running. That is all that matters with those junkdangos.

I’m going through this exact same issue I’ve change all my sensors just like you stated and I have replaced the computer as well and I still can’t get it to start can anyone give me any additional advice
@@josaljo1 I would have done the same thing. When the computer went out the first time, in my 2003 Durango, it was under warranty. I had to watch it be towed away on a rollback. I did cry. Now I am on my second computer with only 105,000 miles, I wanna cry again. It looks brand new and has always been well maintained. ✌🏻❤

I've been wondering why the entire 7 years I've had this Durango, something new kept malfunctioning.
The OTHER COOL THING is that these have a fuse to protect them from being damaged by hot or cold, or shorting. So if ANYTHING activates, that means the PCM is still good, just needs the codes updated. It's the cost of a cord and subscription. Lifetime access.

I had a similar problem with my 99 Durango randomly shutting down. Mechanic assumed it was a fuel pump issue. After he replaced that, the problem still persisted. He didn't want to touch it after that, cause it had to be an electrical issue. Took a chance and purchased a re manufactured pre-flashed pcm on ebay for around $200, did not work. They sent me 3 different pcm's and could not get the coding right, kept giving my NO BUS. Luckily they refunded me since they couldn't get it right. I let it sit for another year, and was gonna try a pcm from NAPA. The sucker cost over $500 without pre-flash. I'm in a small town, no one has an engine coder but the big dealerships. I took one more chance on another guy on ebay, just searched the exact part number. Guy looked to have good reviews, and for a re manufactured pcm for $118, it worked. Just plug in and started up.
They can be a real nuisance. I was ready to junk it at one point.
I've had my 1999 Dodge Durango 5.9L since 2004. The "no bus" reading being indicated on the mileage odometer several times (PCM -programable computer module has failed). Also, the engine may start, but will soon stall out. After a few occurrences, I took the Durango to a mechanic. Early on Dodge replaced the first one under warranty. Back then, $1300 for the job. After the 8 year power train warranty ran out, I certainly started looking for other options. I also found the same PCM repair shop mentioned in the Josalijo Won video. They did a great job repairing it at a great price. I reinstalled it and it worked great for several years. I sent it back for a "new" repair, and they said it was too fried inside, but they sent me a replacement which I kept as a "spare" for several years. After I was told that my PCM had fried, I acquired another PCM from a shop in Long Island, New York. This one has also been running great for 2 years. Now in January 2020, my engine stalled going to work. The engine will start, but will not maintain idle, and will not run unless you keep your foot on the gas pedal. It may not be the PCM this time, but I'll try the spare to know for sure. My Dodge only has 135K miles on it, gets only 12 MPG, but it is fun to drive. Obviously, the engineers missed something when they designed this PCM. The repair shop stated that the circuits pull away from the circuit board due to the heat under the engine hood. Also, a few electronic components are notorious to fail. Still lovin' my Generation 1 Dodge Durango! I still see so many on the road running.
I swapped out the PCM with another (supposedly a good one). The engine wouldn't even start now. Put the original PCM back in, engine started running normally again. On the first and second day later, the engine started and ran normally. On the third day, the engine would start, but you had to keep your foot on the gas pedal again. This time I got a check engine light with a code P0505 (Idle Air Control Valve circuit malfunction.) I went bought an IAC Valve for $43. Changed it out and starts and runs great immediately. I'm putting the truck on probation for 1 week to gain trust in it being reliable again. Let it run in the driveway for an hour. Drive it up and down my street for 30 minutes. Drive it around the block for 15 minutes. Finally, drive it down the freeway for about 30 minutes. If no problems, then I can trust it to get me back and forth to work each day, 25 miles roundtrip. Crossing my fingers. Still loving my (7 passenger) 1999 Dodge Durango 4x4 Generation ONE!

Hope my message finds you well. I have an 2002 Durango with a 5.9 4wd and mine cranks just fine but it will suddenly die while driving. It will crank up again but will stall out over and over until it is turned off again.
It been running great ever since. It was the longest time it took to fix a car for me.

He replaced the fuel pump and didnt put gas in it he sent the computer to SIA... they said it was bad but he reinstalled it and i ended up sending it to the dealship . The said the first mechanic couldnt keep it started because it had no gas .

More than likely they replaced the voltage regulator on the circuit board inside the computer, they're notorious for going out, most often recommend installing a '70's style external voltage regulator to help prevent the one on the factory computer from taking a dump, and causing more problems.
Yes, this is exactly what I did on my step daughters 2005 Durango. I installed an external voltage regulator for $24 plus some wiring and connectors. To avoid replacing the PCM for several hundred dollars.
Why does Chrysler put the voltage regulator in the main computer? I don’t know, but I can guess that it is because it makes them more money. Other car makers (GM, Ford, etc) put the voltage regulator in the ALTERNATOR…. DUH!

I have a 2000 Dakota V6 4WD with 80k on it,so far no problems like that! I always thought the ECM was located inside the cabin on the passenger side kick panel. I guess I learned something new tonight! I've watched about 30 videos in the last couple of weeks about various problems with their Dakota/Durangos. In one video our in the comments,someone mentioned that if you remove the bolts & use washers to shorten the depth of the bolts,it will also cure that problem. Apparently those bolts being too long grounds out&creates a short. Even that person said it sounded crazy to him,but he tried it anyway & it worked.
The ecus are sealed with a silicon sealant from the factory, they probably replaced some bad caps and chips then resealed it again.

I have had the ECU fail on several Dakotas and DUrangos of the first and second generation. I always start with the ECU now. They have a special ECU for high altitude models.

I have a 2002 thats never gave me an issue besides replacing common wear items. You really shouldnt kick a brand to the curb over one little thing. Now if youre like my family and have a piece of junk f350 powerjoke and its had every sensor replaced and still has a no start issue but the next day will fire right up then a couple days later give another no start/no smoke issue as well as the previous f250 having issue after issue after issue as well as well as a 1995 f150 5.0 having issues as well as well as well as(lots of as wells huh) an 80's model 150 standard stall in gear when the manufacturer says no thats not possible then my parents almost get into an accident when it stalled in the middle of an intersection...then you can kick a brand to the curb...and i have. We had a 1998 dakota with the 318 and it was the best truck we had. Dont crap on dodge over one fault. Crap on Ford for taking their plant to mexico and removing american jobs to save money. That seems a tad bit worse than not addressing an ECM that wasnt even a big enough issue to need to address because i have been a dodge guy for years and havent even heard of the ECM failing being a thing. The only thing i heard is that on jeeps they are model specific. You cant take a 96 cherokee 4.0L and put it in a 98 body and use the ECM from the 98's motor, it has a hard time communicating with the other motor and wont start right unless you send the computer off sorta like he did here. It may be the same for durango ECM's as well where the motor and different ECM cant talk properly to eachother. I think he said it had a brand new ECM in it didnt he? Thay would make sense if i remember correctly and he said it was a brand new ECM. They sorta have to be calibrated to the new motor.
@@ratedredneck96 I bought a 4.7l 2002 last year and it was a mess. Changed nearly all the sensors and inspected and tested the others. Ran like shit. Crankcase breather were dry rotted and somebody had crushed the shit outta the air intake tubing and glued it back together on the bottom. Finally got it running kinda right and something in the fuel system just took a shit. Running outta minor parts to change. Gonna be getting in the spaghetti in the dash this weekend that the guy before me rewired.

The problem with these is the ecm has terrible soldering on its boards. They can be re floated/soldered and it fixes it.

It is more than 3 years still runs great.
For fuel injected gasoline engines with those symptoms, the first thing to consider is normally the Idle Air Control (IAC) valve. These things oscillate under control of the ECU to control idle air volume. The little solenoid that does the oscillation isn't particularly strong and fuel residues are sticky enough to jam the valve; typically shut.
Now is could be that the IAC is one of the things you replaced. If not, then read on.
The remedy is either to replace or clean the IAC.
Back in year 2000, my Saab 9000 had a similar issue - the engine would start but not idle without foot on the gas pedal (though I confess I never had a backfire in the couple of days it was playing up).
Anyway, for what it's worth, a friend knew a simple fix, which involved spraying an automotive solvent (Wynnes?) directly into the air intake with air filter removed and engine running at high idle, foot lightly on the pedal. The engine hated the spray and each time the revs dropped near to stalling, he stopped spraying. We did this three times in quick succession, after which the engine idled perfectly for the rest of the Saab's life.
Now, on the assumption that yours was an IAC issue and given that the fix was in the ECU, my first guess would have to be that SIA Electronics' installed a circuit to boost the signal delivered to the IAC. If I'm right, then your IAC is still sticky but the IAC's solenoid is pulling stronger to overcome the stiction.

Nice. My 2005 durango had miss fire issues. Did all kinds of things. Computer injectors coil packs. Nothing worked. One day it was idling erratically. I cleaned the TPS and it fixed the miss fire. Go figure
I think these durangos need some serious redesign.

I have a 2000 durango slt with the 5.2l v8 and it had the same problem minus the backfiring, all I did to fix it was changed the idle air control valve and the throttle position sensor. I've put 10k miles on it since then without anymore issues

Been dealing with my 1999 and I'm almost rdy to do the PCM trip to SIA as you suggested. I have not replaced a bunch of parts but testing wires looking for possible bad wire. Let ya know how mine turns out.

My 99 Durango priodically will stall out when starting, and not idle like it should. I always reset the computer when this happens and it gets everything back to normal for a while.

I like the bracket you made to push wires in the ecu do u have template or selling it
pushing metal against that is a terrible idea. One drop of rain and bye bye, not to mention the added heat, which causes most of our beloved NO BUS issues. Fix leaks, test the sensors for 5v after it no bus, move the harness around in all accessible locations while its running to look for signs, check grounds, clean grounds on trans, look for shorts. Replacing the computer does nothing , cept the rare occasion it was the computer. If you dont fix the issue , or bypass it, youll just spend another 3 on a new PCM.
Same year same trim same color but mine runs just as good as the day I bought it

I bought my 1999 Durango in 2014 an the computer went out 2015 an replaced it an went out again after a few weeks an had yr warranty an replaced it could been a short but it's worked great since an now I'm not sure if it's computer again cuz been having trouble last month or so again now lock chirp went out an now my blinkers went out I may or may not need a new computer or a blinker relay but y my alarm chirp went out I'm not sure has anything do with blinkers I am disabled so I have trouble getting around my truck like I use to I have broken my neck 3 different times an my lower back once so I'm very limited on wat I can do I have no family or friends I can have help me I am 100% disabled an I help Al people I use to hang out with wen I need a lil bit help no matter wat there always bizzy so I am now on my own I won't ask anyone help an I sure as hell will never offer help to anyone ever again that used me for everything cuz I'm that person gets used an never helped I'm done ust need a lil outside help if anyone can please I would not ask but I'm at a loss an have a to take care of my 74 yro father he's a quadraplegic an my mom has severe heart an many physical problems an I have no help for me an my folks so i don't know we're to turn anymore cuz I have no money to take to shop an I can't get under my dash I live in small town an I don't have friends anymorelet them all go I'm done being used so if anyone know of sumone in Riverton Wyoming an is able to give me a hand u hav no idea wat u will b doin for me I have a to my truck for everything to do all my folks errands an if it's dead I'm dead an my folks r in trouble an I have nobody turn to! Also another fact.ppl don't know how to keep there vehicle in good maintaince.its all more than just changing oil,trans,sparks and shit like that.it also cleaning cpu,s,cleaning pcv,s,cleaning the fuel injectors etc.a lot of the times shit doesn't need to be replaced but just cleaned..its a machine and machines will run longer and better with just some care of these parts..some carb clean and some cleaner for electronics once a month will save thousands.
In an air conditioned residence/office, a fairly clean and controlled environment, computers still "blue screen", crash and lockup. In a vehicle or even an aircraft, tons of moving steel and aluminum, computers should NOT have such a vital role. The recent crashes of 737Max jets are a warning.

Nope.mine did the same thing I took all the computer parts of and just cleaned them as Well as the intake and carb.that was 1m and a half a ago.shit still runs great and idle is fine...there's 2 types of ppl,those who regularly maintainace there engine and those who do not.I shitty well maintainced engine will always run better that a good one that is poorly maintainced..thats just fact.
hello i was wondering on the bracket you made and installed on the ECM. looks like it supports the 3 plugs into the ecm. did that work or is it personal preference. after getting the ecm fixed are you still requiring that bracket. thanks in advance. good video and good info
The bracket does help hold the wires but I dont think it is necessary.
When is running good my 98 Durango is great! To bad that's not always the case. About a week ago my 1998 5.2L 4x4 Dodge Durango was having trouble starting as would start and i give it a little gas and as soon as let of peddle would die and while trying to start it and give it a little gas thete was an oil like substance on ground leaking from Directly under the car and in between the passanger side front seat and back seat area! Ive tried fuel injector ive bought and replaced the Fuses and that worked for about 3 days and now back to do that same thing having hard time startimg and staying on! Truly am.so.sick of having car issues Nd troubles. I thought hAving no payments and getting title was best thing and truly id rather have monthly payments on new car then monthly parts and trips to mechanic!!

Anything electronics from the late 90s to early 2000s suffer from black market electrolytic capacitors from China. That's probably what they replaced. This happened mostly to asian manufacturers, especially S. Korea and Taiwan. Some companies covered under warranty some didn't. This Dodge lasted a long time (low voltage device) before it happened. This is my guess.

I have a 1999 dodge van 1500b it would die during flight till it cooled off everyone its the computer i got a used one flashed and cheep computer was three inches over engine.
My 99 Durango will either not start or stall out while I'm driving. it has a brand new computer.

What is that metal bracket on the ECM is it keeping the plugs from coming out if that is the only issue you could make one yourself. I could fabricate something like that on the cheap. Save some money??
Yes i fabbed that because the customer told me that when she wiggled the wires the car would start. But I removed the bracket after putting the fixed computer. Been running ever since.
Should I try that with a 97 Dakota its pretty much the same deal no start or run issue.

I replaced it with an oem one from mopar. Just not sure if they refurbished it or not. Im just leaning toward the plugs/pigtails coming loose. It seems to run fine as long as they are tight.
It wont hurt to put something on to keep the wires on the terminals. But after I got my ecm back I did not need the bracket to keep the wires on. Sorry I cant give you a more specific answer.

Did you find a fix for it? My dad's 2002 Dakota stalled out this morning. So we changed the crankshaft sensor and it turned on for a few seconds then it turned off. Then we changed the distributer cap, the rotor and the coil that was in it and it wouldn't start at all. So I looked up the no bus warning in the odometer and they all pointed to the computer. But since you said that you have a new computer in it and it still stalled, I don't know if we should go and get one ourselves.
I put a new computer on my Durango Durango this morning and it's still shutting down after 20 minutes does anyone know what I need to do next. 🤔🤔🤔

William Wells dam that sucks if you didn’t replace the camshaft positioning sensor and the crankshaft positioning sensor I would have somebody check them next if you don’t know how to yourself.after hearing you replaced your pcm and fuel pump it is highly likely to be one or both those sensors..I’m no mechanic I’ve just about heard it all dealing with my dodge.

Many times, the computer need fixing. The car to this day lights up lights, dings, and what not, BUT it stays running. That is all that matters with those junkdangos.

@@josaljo1 I would have done the same thing. When the computer went out the first time, in my 2003 Durango, it was under warranty. I had to watch it be towed away on a rollback. I did cry. Now I am on my second computer with only 105,000 miles, I wanna cry again. It looks brand new and has always been well maintained. ✌🏻❤
