Speaking for all the comedians. If you guys give some tips, we can keep doing these. Imagine a world with no more gatekeepers. Where the only things holding us back is the amount of money it takes to make these. I like the Edinburgh Free Fringe model of shows where we don't charge the audience for tickets. But then after the show, the comic stands outside with a bucket and people throw in their "thanks" as they file out. On great shows, I made more. On shows where I was off or tired, I made less. The adults put in more than the college kids. But even the college kids threw in a pound or two. And the people who owned houses kicked in 20s or 50s. Sometimes even 100! This model allowed everyone to take a chance on a show without financial risk, and then afterwards they gave what they woulda given had they known how good it was going to be. The amount of money I'd get in my bucket was always in direct correlation to how good a show I had put on. When I was on fire, the bucket would be overflowing with cash. When I was off the bucket would be lighter. It was fair. Well, same with these specials. If you see one you loved throw in a lot. If you see one that was so-so, throw in less. It was paid for by the guy on stage. And you're directly paying back the guy who brought you an hour (or in this case 90 minutes) of laughs. I think a fair price for an ok special is $3-7 dollars. That's a good price for something they worked on for 2 years (or in this case 5 years 6 months 11 days). And I think a fair price for something amazing is closer to $20. I've never been a fan of Ari shaffir, but this special was one of the best specials I've ever seen!! I mean it was so cleverly written and every joke was really thought out. Wow. I'm actually really impressed and I am now a fan of Ari shaffir!
I think this is the start of a new era of Ari’s comedy. He’s finally starting to allow himself to be a bit more vulnerable, which makes him so much more relatable. Religion aside, he’s sharing more personal stories, and I think that’s always a solid move in comedy.
A great example of how important every aspect of stand up is. From concept to performance, writing and working out material. This is so extremely tight, well written, and brilliantly performed. Thank you Ari
I saw Ari in Kansas City back in May, while he worked out his special Jew. I watch a LOT of live comedy, and when big comedians come through for their special it's always at a theatre. Instead Ari went to a comedy club near me for a quarter of what you'd normally pay to see a Comedian of his class. For an hour and a half, and 25 feet apart I got to see the best comedy show I've ever been to, and at a club no less. Thank you for coming to KC Ari.
@@RamminRanch Aww someone not have a sense of humor? Or are you one of those super hero Super Wokes? I laughed so hard I cried multiple times. So yeah, you must be fun at parties.
I've never sent anybody money besides family but this was one of the most classic specials I've ever seen and I know how much went into it. This was so original that I SHOULD have to pay to see it.
I think for me this ranks in the top 50 if not top 20 specials of all time. Not many specials that you car rewatch and still laugh and zone in. Plus for Ari its not overly raunchy and you can even watch it with your mom. I think its perfect. I hope theres a sequal down the road
Every artist says "this is my best work" and I take it with a grain of salt, but hands down this ONE MAN SHOW is one of the best comedy specials Ive seen in years
Yeah, we all really do say that. I’ve said it before. I think it’s a mix of everybody constantly growing so every work is a little better than the last, and also a little promotion.
Would LOVE to see a feature length Movie or sketch comedy series like this on modernism in Various Religion's stories acted out by people of that faith/race. & I know it's been done before but, I Fuckin' Love Ari's take🙌🫶 Fuckin' Genius! ...& I'm a "Born Again Christian" & Mazdayasnian, who happens be from Utah, whom also happens to be a butt-fucking Native-American Tranny🌈🌏 #GoodThoughtsGoodWordsGoodDeeds🙏 This Special Is Fuckin' BRILLIANT 💎
Thanks Ari. That was truly awesome. My wife and I didn't intend to watch 90 minutes of comedy tonight and I didn't intend to give you any money, but here we are. Sincerely one of the best specials I've ever seen. Congrats.
Thanks Ari -- I watched this when it came out and couldn't believe people didn't even pay you... then I realized I was one of them! You deserve all the good stuff that comes from putting this special out for free.
The circumcision act out always gets me. I've seen this special like 5 times now - such a good, tight set. This one goes right up there with the classics.
I hear Ari on lots of podcasts and generally think he’s a very funny dude. But this special is DIFFERENT. Talk about a special that is so much different than everything else that has come out in recent memory. Part storytelling, part education, all completely funny, every joke hits. Well done sir, definitely passing this along to the homies 👏🏼
Damn! That makes me feel really good. I love a new fan. And a not cheap one, too. Welcome to the group. You're going to hear a lot of wild stuff about me but only some of it is true.
A friend recommended this to me and I was not disappointed! I grew up Catholic and did a few years of Religious Studies at university and this was right up my alley. Hilarious!.
As a 33 year old Jew this was great...Not only was this an amazing special, but I learned more about being a Jew during this 1.5hr special than I ever did in Sunday school, Torah Study, etc. Mazel tov, Ari! 🇮🇱🕍💎🕎
Your comment says so much. How could you possibly learn more about a religion in an hour and a half than years worth of schooling and a religious lifestyle?
Hands down one of the most artful displays of stand up comedy that I've seen. He almost seemed like he was floating on stage, brimming with confidence, expert timing, quick wit with the crowd, and most of all, educational, actually.
Always talked shit about Ari until I heard him interview a little more. Been disappointed with standup lately and this was a breath of fresh air. Awesome set. Respect to you Ari. New fan
Yeah he wasn’t the first but he did also produce and pay for it out of his own pocket so that’s impressive. Comedians usually don’t make much selling their specials to streamers anyway unless it’s chappelle or some shit. They are aiming to break even atleast and then after that it’s views they want so they can sell more tickets. They will go wherever they are confident they will get eyeballs and RUclips is perfect for that. He has a big enough fan base that he could’ve put this behind a pay wall on his website but the views were more important.
@@SARJdk hmmm first time I tried to watch this I turned it off after 5 minutes, here to try again. Alright well I made it to 7 minutes but not for me. I love how diverse comedy is.
The most amazing thing is that his friends all were pulling for him and believed this special would be great. Almost putting him back up on the respectable comic that he should be. I don’t think even Ari believed it would hit a million in 2 days. I loved the❤ podcast man. True friends.

Amazing Special! Ari was one of the first comedian's I saw live after I started doing stand up 8 years ago. I waited until everyone else had talked to him and bought merch. I introduced myself and said I had just started stand up. He was super nice, took the time to talk to me and asked me a few questions. Then he signed the shirt I bought from him and wrote on the shirt "Stick with it," ruining a perfectly good fucking shirt! When I started I fucking sucked but I took his advice, and obsessed over comedy and last month I got to perform a short opening set in a 450 person theatre and crushed it. Thanks Ari for caring about the up and comers and shitty open micers.
This is what every special should aspire to be. Not just an hour of new jokes, but something truly special. The last time I felt this way watching stand-up from home was Chappele's "Sticks and Stones". Ari Shaffir is truly one of the best of our time.
As someone who grew up in a very religious environment and can relate to a lot of this material from a different cultural perspective and as someone who appreciates comedy in a city that largely doesn't get it, thank you from the bottom of my heart. This material will always hold a special place to me, because of the look I got when you performed the Berlin bit in NOLA and I laughed hysterically and looked to my right to see the 50-ish year old woke couple looking at me in disgust before abruptly leaving. Getting a picture with you at the end made my night. Thanks for all your work. Until next skankfest

This special was awesome, probably the most interesting and extensive sets I’ve watched on a single topic. Not to mention absolutely hysterical jokes. Watched it while I was at work which kept me from busting a lung in laughter unfortunately. Once I finish work I’m going straight home, rolling a spliff and playing this again. Coming from an Irish catholic family I had a similar crisis of faith in my early twenties, the emphasis you put on the priorities a lot of people concern themselves with struck a chord. This special will be biblical.

I think this is the start of a new era of Ari’s comedy. He’s finally starting to allow himself to be a bit more vulnerable, which makes him so much more relatable. Religion aside, he’s sharing more personal stories, and I think that’s always a solid move in comedy.

Releasing his new special for free on RUclips is a ballsy move by Shaffir, and I respect it. Well done, Ari.
Thanks for an amazing special- in the truest sense of the word. Just simply one of the best specials in the past 10 years.

Hands down one of the best sets I have seen a very long time. This is also the very first Ari set I have ever seen. Absolutely loved every single minute of this one
-- watched it again and read the notes part. This is definitely not a so-so special. I learned a lot, had a lot of laughs. I hope you make your money back and then some.
