Welp, I watched this one twice - as instructed... ;-) - and really liked how well this worked on a 12. I’ve attempted this before on a standard 6, but now will try it with my 12 as well. Nicely done, Mark!
Damn Robert. My humble apologies. You've already commented on the new one and here I am still getting around to responding to the previous ones. The good news is that the reason is I've been hard at work. I have 4 more videos in process. That is a rarity for me. Usually I can barely keep up. Thanks again for your amazing support!! -Mark
Hey David. Yes, I actually sang it falsetto almost jokingly during playback and I thought 'that'll work'. A little more production never hurt. Thanks again!!! Have a great evening. -Mark
Wow! Great job, Mark, and I have to agree with some other commenters that this might be my favorite so far. I know that because I got actual *chills* while listening... a sure sign. I watched a few times, just to be sure it wasn't a fluke, and there they were each time from the opening bar. Long a favorite song and you did a fantastic job with it.

Hey Thomas. I owe you an apology. You're an entire video ahead of my replies (I saw your comment on the new one come in a little while ago). My Sweet Lord would be a great one. Also gives me the opportunity to 'cut in' again with the electric like I did on the Counting Crows tune. Maybe a comparison of He's So Fine and My Sweet Lord like I did with Hotel California and the Jethro Tull tune. I appreciate the suggestion. And love from Atlanta!!! -Mark
Hey brother. I really appreciate your support very much. People told me that once I reached 1000 subs I'd never be able to keep up with the comments. I'm almost at 20k and I'm still answering every single one. I haven't even considered the auto reply. I am very grateful for your time and support. Have a great evening and take care. -Mark
Hey Ron. I really appreciate that. The vox are so low at the end of each line but overall not too difficult of a song. Thanks again for all of your support. Have a great evening. -Mark

Wow Mark that was wonderful. This is my favorite Beatles song to play solo and I never thought of playing it on a 12 string. I will be going forward. Still astounded by your Strawberry fields performance recently.
Hey Al. I really appreciate it. Did you catch my 12 string cover of Long Time by Boston A LONG TIME - BOSTON- 12 STRING COVER ruclips.net/video/KBF0cuOqing/видео.html. One of my favorites along with Strawberry Fields and the Rain Song. I also did an acoustic cover of Whipping Post several months ago that I think came off pretty well WHIPPING POST ruclips.net/video/vwQjtpkiUAw/видео.html. Thanks so much for your support of the channel and your positive feedback. It is very much appreciated. Take care and have a great evening. -Mark
This song is within my capabilities, and I am currently working on it. I am familiar with Jon MacClennan, and have watched some of his videos. He is an excellent guitar teacher.
Hi Mark, as you use to do, great playing and singing, and I love the information about the songs. Keep on doing well and stay healthy. Greetings from Madrid
Hey Juergen. Did you catch today's yet. My buddy and I pulled off a decent version of Long Time by Boston. Thanks so much for the positive feedback. Talk soon. -Mark
Very nice ! When you spoke about the 12 string mimicking the Sitar. I thought about why I love Alex Lifeson's playing so much, and his ability to make his 12 mimic other ethnic tones and sounds. Like his song " Hope " You'll hear some Indian/Asian mixture of sound. It's just Brilliant !
I sent you the tab, right? If not, please email me again. I'm having trouble with my gmail. It's not receiving emails sequentially. I think my son hit multiple keys at once and turned on the 'suck' feature. Did you check out Long Time yet ruclips.net/video/KBF0cuOqing/видео.html. I thought you were one of the first to comment on it but I'm behind on that too. It now takes me between 4 and 5 hours to return all emails and comments. But I stay grateful. Much better than March when I was getting 5 views a day, total, on the channel. LOL. Thanks so much for your amazing support! -Mark
Hey Ned. Ever since the first video where I was using the borrowed guitar which I've since repaired nicely, I believe I've done everything in standard. The new Takamine is a little stiff right now but it plays reasonably well and sounds and looks absolutely amazing. I apologize for the delay in getting back to you. Hard at work on the videos. Here's a new one for you that I bet you didn't expect! ruclips.net/video/KBF0cuOqing/видео.html. Thanks again. -Mark
Hi Mark. Been very busy lately at work, so didn't have time to watch a lot RUclips videos. But now it's time to watch everything I was missing.. great cover of this beautiful song. 👍🏽 Maybe you can play 'Hey Jude' sometime? Wouldn't mind to listen 12string version of it. 👍🏽 Take care, buddy 🙂
Hey man. Great to hear from you. I'm just getting back from a mental break from the channel. More videos to come soon. Hey Jude is definitely doable and a great one. I'll put it on the master list. Don't worry, the list isn't that long. I'll catch up with you more soon! Take care and be well. -Mark
That was very nice! Takes me way back to when that album first came out. I think the sitar on it got me interested in Ravi Shankar - saw him a couple of times. Thanks !
Hey Randy. I just talked to the guy again. He's going to look you up re the fingerpicking. I like the sitar but Ravi overstayed his welcome at Monterey Pop. 30 minutes of that when the Who and Hendrix only got 20. Whew. Thanks again. Any new videos out?
@@8MinuteAxe I have one I am about to post. I could do a short tutorial on fingerpicking. Its about the same on a 12 string with one more rule - dig in and enjoy the ride. I'm happy to explain anything I can.
Hey David. Thanks so much for checking it out. I really appreciate your support. You have multiple entries in the contest. I will close out the contest this weekend and announce the winners next week. Moving forward I will be uploading a new video every Friday at 2pm. Please make sure you have all upload notifications on for the channel (I would really appreciate it). Email me at markaranalli@gmail.com if you have any questions. Take care and be well! -Mark
Once more, an awesome cover! The 12 string really brings out everything awesome about a song! This song if one of my favorite Beatles tunes and also one of my favorites to play on guitar, the riff is just sooo fun to play! Could you could do a cover of Something? Please?
Hey Ian. Did you check out today's upload yet. I did Boston's Long Time with a friend. ruclips.net/video/KBF0cuOqing/видео.html. Check it out when you have time. Do I still owe you some tabs? I feel like I do. If I have you confused with someone else, I apologize. If I do, shoot me an email at markaranalli@gmail.com and I'll get them to you. It's all free. And go get that Sigma brother!! -Mark
Hey Harshit. Thanks so much for the kind words. I started doing covers of songs off of the Sgt Pepper album. Here's a cool cover and an even cooler video to go with it LUCY IN THE SKY WITH DIAMONDS COVER AND LESSON ruclips.net/video/vZdVOj1wSr8/видео.html&ab_channel=8MinuteAxe. Let me know what you think. Have a great weekend and take care. -Mark
Thanks Dean. Much appreciated. I just uploaded Long Time by Boston when you have a minute ruclips.net/video/KBF0cuOqing/видео.html. It's probably my favorite video to date. Thanks so much. Take care and be well. -Mark
A little rip off from Mash. Frank Burns: the only reason I'm paranoid is because everyone's out to get me! LOL. Thanks brother. I appreciate your support. You check out the new one yet? ruclips.net/video/KBF0cuOqing/видео.html. It came out really well. Usually, I don't watch again after uploading but I'm happy with this one and it was fun to do with my buddy even if it was done remote. Take care. -Mark
Mark, great video. I play Norwegian Wood in my solo set lists. I use a capo on fret 2 across 5 upper register strings and leave the low E open giving a low E note drone in various portions of the song. See if you like it. 🎸🎶
That's interesting John. Probably work better with a shubb capo over a kyser, huh? I've been working on Leo Kottkes Vaseline Machine Gun and the biggest challenge is doing the slide part on the top 2 strings while the g string rings open. I'll give it a try today. Have a great weekend. Mark
Hey Rob. There's another viewer that can definitely give you excellent advice on how to finger pick with the 12 string. His you tube page is Randy's Context I believe. I had a link for you earlier but my computer crashed. If you go to my new video ruclips.net/video/KBF0cuOqing/видео.html and search for Randy in the comments he will help you. I told him you were looking for some guidance. As far as generally getting even attack a thin pick works really well too. Let me know how you make out. Also, if you can't find him for some reason let me know.-Mark
Hey man. Shoot me an email at markaranalli@gmail.com and I'd be happy to talk shop with you. If you just want the short of it, Rode Condenser, Sony stereo condensers, Zoom h6n, cakewalk, and Davinci. I'll look for you email. Thanks so much. -Mark
Hi, love the content, keep it up! I'm thinking of getting a 12 string and wondered if you had any recommendations! I'm looking for something about $500 or under if I can find a good one in that price range. Thanks!
Hey! So I think I can help you. If you've followed by channel for more than a couple of months you know that the quest for a new 12 string became more of a saga. I tried many guitars, failed on two purchases, and finally ended up with a pretty sweet guitar. My experience has been that right at $500 the difference starts happening with the 12 strings. Under 500 you're gonna have to make some sacrifices. There's the $300 Ibanez, plays great, looks great, but has that damn laminate top. Guild makes a pretty good one at $450 but it doesn't have a huge sound. I have the Takamine GS72. It's little brother, the GD30 sells for exactly $500. If I had exactly $500 to spend, I'd probably look at getting a gently used Martin D12x1. They're typically priced right at $500. Almost all of the music houses and Amazon all have very easy return policies, so if you buy something that you don't love, return it. I've returned several guitars. If something catches your eye and you want my 2 cents, shoot me an email at markaranalli@gmail.com. Happy hunting! -Mark
Do you have your guitar tone down half step with capo on 2nd like you recomend for 12 strings? Beacuse in tutorial Jon is playing normal 6 string with capo on 2nd fret. So Im not sure what is original tone
Depends on the song. Lately, I've been doing everything live. I have the zoom H6N. I set up a Rode NT1a and a couple of SM58s. I have the full version of Ableton Live but lately I've been using Cakewalk. It's open source now! 100% free. Full version that cost $600 for years. With Help! and some other tunes I track it using Scarlett 2i2 right into Cakewalk. Same mics. I used to have higher end mics but with technology so good now coupled with the fact that I'm doing mostly youtube, the quality is fine. I do have a high end camera and professional lighting. Email me if you want to chat about equipment. Are you doing recordings or thinking of starting a channel? If so, I'm happy to help in any way I can. -Mark
8 Minute Axe I’ve been writing my own stuff, and using GarageBand at the moment. There’s not much to use as far as selection. I’m trying to find a good DAW and maybe some help with setting up mics for the amp and vocals. Thought about starting a channel as well but don’t think I have a set idea yet lol. The 12 string really does have a star quality to it. Even more, I like the effect on your voice.
“Sitar”, not “Star”. Thanks autocorrect.
It has both.
The start quality comes from the guys that wrote it! :)
Mark, you can play the Beatles on your 12 string for every video and I would be happy. The singing is nice too.
That would be too easy. I always make things as difficult for myself as possible. Side note. This video took half the time to shoot, edit, and render than any other video. It just flowed nicely. Thanks again.
Another awesome Beatles cover. This one is probably my favorite one. Sounds like a little more production went into this one. Well done mark!

Great video Mark! Song sounds great on the 12 string. Cornershop does a cool cover of this tune as well - check it out! And keep the vids coming

-Mark
Love this song
Excellent version, was the 12 stringer in standard tuning or had you tuned down a ½ or full step?
-Mark
I'm thinking of getting a 12 string and will start w this song. Been playing 6 string for years.
Great job, Mark....loved it. .... Crossbow, BMI
Thanks again brother. I hope you're enjoying the weekend. Where are you located?
@@8MinuteAxe Northeastern Florida
Best song, good cover.
-Mark
Awesome! Great song
Once more, an awesome cover! The 12 string really brings out everything awesome about a song! This song if one of my favorite Beatles tunes and also one of my favorites to play on guitar, the riff is just sooo fun to play! Could you could do a cover of Something? Please?
:) Something is on the short list
Fine job there Mark. Really enjoying your videos. Need to dig my Sigma 12 string out.
-Mark
@@8MinuteAxe I think you may have me confused with somebody else but I'll ping you an email anyway if you wouldn't mind sending me the tab.
Great stuff!
-Mark
Realistic sound !
:)
Fantastic!
That was very good. Has subscribed !
Top stuff mate !
Thanks Dean. Much appreciated. I just uploaded Long Time by Boston when you have a minute ruclips.net/video/KBF0cuOqing/видео.html. It's probably my favorite video to date. Thanks so much. Take care and be well. -Mark
If you think you going crazy hearing things you probably are! HA HA words of wisdom to live by!
Mark
@@8MinuteAxe thanks Mark. I normally use a G7th 12-String mostly, but for this song and 1 or 2 others I use a Dunlop or something similar.
Any ideas on how to fingerpick a 12=string? Fred Kelly's don't work for this, and that's one of the few I can use.
Hey Rob. Found it. Here he is ruclips.net/channel/UCLLCnT5-cPuxfw5hzUcqCBA
8 Minute Axe - Thank you. That has always been the reason why I gave up on the 12-string early in my playing. (About 30 years ago.)
Ok how did u record this I like the sound
Hey man. Shoot me an email at markaranalli@gmail.com and I'd be happy to talk shop with you. If you just want the short of it, Rode Condenser, Sony stereo condensers, Zoom h6n, cakewalk, and Davinci. I'll look for you email. Thanks so much. -Mark
Would you ever consider getting a sitar? Or sitar guitar (like Steve Miller)? Or sitar pedal?
You should do Needle and the damage done. 🎸🤘😎
-Mark
8 Minute Axe thank you so much!
Do you have your guitar tone down half step with capo on 2nd like you recomend for 12 strings? Beacuse in tutorial Jon is playing normal 6 string with capo on 2nd fret. So Im not sure what is original tone
Twelve string=cool
This was the quickest video I ever did. Took two hours from idea to finished project. Usually takes about 10 hours.
Completely zoned out with this one. The backing vocals were the perfect add on. On a different note, what do you use for recording?
This is one of mine

Thanks for asking. Doctor said that I was her only patient to survive 14 days of quarantine and come out with no covid19.
Thank god. Very good news. I'm waiting on some medical news myself that should be coming back tomorrow.
I hate to ask but I'd love to have the music to this
You mean sheet music? Of course man. Shoot me an email to remind me!
I think you are a Beatles fan too alongside Rush
Real interesting how it sounds on a 12 string

what tuning are you using?
Mmmmmhhmmmm

This is a kinda weird song, but then again, John Lennon probably wrote it
Too much talking. Please just play 😮
Hey Timothy. Yeah, early videos suffer from a lot of talking. I learned my lesson though. ruclips.net/video/M0ncR5fCSEA/видео.html&ab_channel=8MinuteAxe
