Mark, I think your choice of "Walk Right In" is an exceptionally good choice of the song that really brought the 12 string into popular music in America and Canada. You are right --- it had been used in mostly Hispanic culture songs, Eastern Europe songs, and to some extent, American and Canadian songs in folk songs, etc. but it was "Walk Right In" that really introduced it to our popular music culture. Great to hear that song again. It was one of the major reasons that I started learning guitar and bought a 12 string (Egmond, from Sweden I think) when I got my first student loan in1970. Btw, still trying to learn it properly 50 years later. Great video, Mark.
Awesome Gregg!! Like me, you must be a perfectionist! Lol! I've been playing for over 30 years (eek!), and I say the same thing! We are actually much better than we think we are...I've stumbled across a few recording of my friends and I fooling around, having fun at a couple of "jam sessions" and yeah, they sound pretty good! After buying my 12 string 8 years ago, I'm having fun playing! They sound great!

In my case, I found your channel after Trogly reviewed a Rickenbacker 360/12C63 about a month ago. It sounded so cool that I immediately searched "12-strings riffs" and your video was among the top results. Watched it, then a couple more, and subscribed. In the following days I watched a bunch more. I remembered thinking at the time (and was even gonna comment that at the time, but I don't think I did) that surely out of the tens thousands that watched Trogly's video hundreds or even thousands probably searched for more 12-videos and that probably would give your video and channel a bump in the almighty and mysterious algorithm.

Over the years, as you’ve stated, the 12 string has been in many, many songs. The general audience didn’t realize it. I got my 1st 12 string in 1968. It was used, and the neck warp was so bad, it would never stay in tune. I played it at the children’s mass at church (along with 2 6 strings). I’d say it was more like nails scratching on a chalk board. Lol The songs you’ve played have inspired me and today’s 12 string is much better than my 1st. People actually like when I play it. Can’t wait for those oldies! Keep on trucking Mark.
Got my frist 12 string second hand in 1970. Was an EKO built like a cricket bat. Played with only 6 strings the first 3 months so I could grasp the chords. Never looked back.

Viewers have kept me honest over the years and according to Mark Lewisson who painstakingly went through every session and every instrument used on every session, it's a six string on You've Got to Hide Your Love Away. I know he strums one in the movie. I love the song. Here's a couple of Beatles songs that you may or may not know employ a 12-string. While My Guitar Gently Weeps (George uses a FENDER 12 to mimic Paul's bass line) and She Came in Through the Bathroom Window (the answer to the trivia question 'what's the last Beatles song with a 12-string on it'). Another well informative video !! I really enjoyed it !! My two favorite 12 string songs are "Hope" by Alex Lifeson of RUSH, and when John Denver plays "Rocky Mountain High" on the 12 string. John before is death, started to really Vocalize very clearly, the word "Colorado" on the 12 string guitar. You could hear Colorado plain as day. That isn't as easy as it sounds either. Vocalizing like that to me, is Talent ! He was another guitar genius !!

Great video Mark!! "Walk Right In" is a must for the 12 string! The thing to remember on a 12, the "money strings" are the bottom base string and their octave. It's what gives them their iconic sound!

That's It! 1962, the year I graduated from High School - everyone that had a 12 string that I knew was playing this! (I tried, but failed) The year that I discovered folk music, at the Ice House. Thanks so much for bringing those memories back.

I always loved 60s and 70s music but if I knew back I'm the mid 90s that the current music (counting crows, third eye blind, black crowes) was going to be rocks last gasp, I would have gone to a show everyday. Nice little walk through 12-string history! I was pleased that you landed on my own personal favorite, "Walk Right In," after a brief pause on my 2nd personal favorite, "I'll Never Find Another You" (sharing that position with "For Emily, Whenever I May Find Her," by S&G). I think there's a hidden factor behind questions like this - a generational one. You're in a younger generation than mine; my pop-musical "roots" are more along the lines of Pete Seeger, The Byrds, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Seekers, Simon & Garfunkel, all of whom made great use of the 12-string, as well as many other groups who didn't, so much. Basically, the 1960's, and a bit in the 70's. Your roots appear to be more in the 80's & 90's; and please do weigh in on what you consider to be the bands in your own "zone," if you please to. The Eagles may be on the boundary between our "home territories." Possibly also Leo Kottke. And the generation before mine, might well call on Leadbelly or Pete Seeger for this one. BTW, I heard, back in the 60's, from a fellow amateur guitarist, that Leadbelly used a standard tuning on his 12, except with a 2-octave bass E-string pair, and I think, a unison G-string pair. Eagerly looking forward to your video on Leo! My personal favorites of his include Louise (wr. by Paul Seibel), Vaseline Machine Gun (heavily feat. slide work), and Pamela Brown. I must confess not having got much deeper into his oeuvre than those, so I'm looking forward to getting more immersed in his recorded works. Fred

Nicely done. I remember the song when it came out in the 60's. I was 9 or 10. But as much as I like the sound of acoustic 12's, I'm a little partial to the electric 12. My favourite pre-Beatles song with a signature electric 12 string riff is Jackie De Shannon's 'When You Walk in the Room'. I believe Glen Campbell played on that record.

Well Mark that was a very surprising and clever choice .Yes pre Beatles that is a terrific choice featuring two 12 strings including the lead. Great stuff. Of course I remember the song. But I was unaware of any of the differences in guitars at that point. I was 10 or so. My first introduction to a guitar would not be for another few years. Just so much great music came out in the 60’s. It spoiled me to pretty much everything else that came after that.

Excellent Mark. Great to hear the Mexicans getting a well deserved rap. The guitar was in Mexico for a century before it sneaked across the Rio Grande. The bajo sexto (12), and its smaller brother, the bajo quinto (10), were traditional instruments in Mexico long before the six string became popular in America, around the time of the land rushes. Wagoneers were attracted to the six for compactness, lightness, low price and portability. It initially boomed in popularity as a worship instrument, pianos and organs not being very portable. Interesting choices in your 12 string influences, Kottke and Butler. They are at opposite ends regarding their tunings. Kottke uses a lot of D, particulary Drop D and Open D, and is handy with the slide ('Vaseline Machine Gun' is his jaw-dropping Magnum Opus, and 'Jack Fig' is a personal favorite), and Butler favors Celtic tunings, with Drop CG and Orkney Tuning appearing in his works, with a capo well up the neck. I haven't worked out 'Ocean' yet but it's also heavily influenced by Celtic. He also omits the bass G from the 3rd course and plays an 11 string, which seems to work well with his tuning choices. You're right about "famous". Their were other names that spring to mind in 12 string history, chief among them 'Blind' Willie McTell, and Leadbelly. McTell had a profound influence on Dylan, and Dylan's nasally vocal treatment is a direct reference to McTell's voice. I've heard a lot of Dylan (who hasn't), and the only song I can recall where he sang in his 'own' voice was 'Lay Lady Lay'. McTell used an oddball tuning on many songs, sometimes tuning strings individally instead of the usual octave aprt. Leadbelly's 'Hangman' was a big hit for Led Zeppelin. Leadbelly also used a strange tuning but I don't remember it offhand. (Open E variant??) Can't mention Leadbelly without giving Lonnie Donergan a well deserved kick in the gonads. Donergan's two biggest hits 'Goodnight Irene' and 'Rock Island Line' were stolen from Leadbelly and used without credit, he claiming to have written both. Objections were raised, but Leadbelly was an impoverished black man and lacked the resources to legally challenge Donergan, an international star. Long after both men had died, the Leadbelly Foundation took the matter up, and retrospectively sued Donergan's Estate. They produced published manuscripts that pre-dated Donergans own stolen works. The Court proceedings lasted several years, but Leadbelly's Foundation won. Compensation for Royalties not paid, reputational damages, damages for outright plagiarism, and legal fees, bankrupted Donergan's Estate. They appealed but the case was thrown out. Bruce Woodley, The Seekers guitarist, revealed in an interview that he was heavily influenced by the 'Great Folk Scare' of the early 60's and began using the 12 as a result. He, in partnership, wrote the song that I and many others hope will become our National Anthem, 'I Am Australian'. Our current Anthem is a witless dirge that expresses a lot about Australia's natural beauty, but says not a word about the people. Woodley's song is enormously popular, and features a verse in one of the many aboriginal tongues. My latest trip to the vortex, has yielded me a 12 string 'jo. Like I really needed a 'jo! But I can use guitar chords, so it's not back to square one. I've been watching for you to bob up nursing the Pelham Blue 339. You still have it?

I think people would be shocked to realize that the actual lodging establishment which shall not be named, is in the middle of the most touristy section of Santa Monica. The pier is one block down, and there's a Del Friscos grille across the street. I enjoyed this very much.
Are you talking about the fauxtel that Henley is suing because they're calling themselves 'The Hotel California?" The actual picture they use for the song is the Beverly Hills Hotel which is of course in Beverly Hills. I went to one party there when I lived in L.A. At the time, I didn't know it was the hotel the Eagles used. FYI, the party was really lame. Certainly nothing like the party in 'Almost Famous'. LOL. Thanks for checking out the video. @@8MinuteAxe it’s annoying that Frye and Henley who guided (with an iron hand) one of the greatest bands of all time into music history were/are such asses. I suspect though that the assishness was a big part of their success. They demanded perfection in every aspect from writing to arrangement to rehearsal to recording and performance. Although all the members contributed so much (Felder’s guitar on Hotel? He should be in HOF just for that alone) it was definitely the Don and Glenn show.

I'll take your word for it as you seem to be the all knowing 12 string expert. I suppose it could be debatable since everything on guitar never seems to be clear cut on who did what and when they did it. That's the wonderful thing about subjectiveness in music. Great performance by the way!
Keith Potter played 12 string on just about every Seekers song and inspired me to buy my first guitar - a 12 string - with my first school holidays pay packet. Still got it.

At 55, I'm late in discovering the catalog of The Seekers. I knew Georgie Girl for decades, but I'll Never Find Another You left me speechless. I have since bought that 45 for my jukebox, and several albums. What a phenomenal group.

Mark, great video. If there were no Beatles, then the musical landscape would have been vastly different. The cross pollination that arose as a result of our music being done by young English guys absolutely was responsible and paramount to the future of music as we know it. Also, seminal works such as Mayall's Blues Breakers with Eric Clapton, along with other first rate English Blues Musicians led to a resurgence of interest in Blues Music and revived the careers of many of the Blues greats such as Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, et al. Mark, I think you're on the right track, and your knowledge along with how to express it; is and will continue to pay big dividends for you; now and into the future. I'm certain that many of your viewers don't even play guitar, but watch you anyway because you make interesting and informative videos. Also, you're a hard guy not to like. Take care my friend!
Hey Michael. Thanks for another very kind and very informative comment. I'm a huge music history buff (actually my wheelhouse is colonial American History. Lol) but my weak spots are definitely blues from the 20s to 50s. I started learning a lot more when I was researching a now aborted video called, In Search of the First Hard Rock Riff. I was going to work my way back from Sabbath, to Zep, Helter Skelter, You Really Got Me, Louie Louie, and land on Smokestack Lightning. The idea being that even though the riff isnt hard or distorted, the sensibility of the song is. As you probably know, there are many tunes that could vie for that claim so I kind of put it to the side. As far as the Beatles, they're such a phenomenon and cultural anomaly it's hard to measure or put in perspective, the impact is so far reaching. I'm so glad I connected with you on this video too. I thought youd appreciate it. For years, I only had two Mayall albums. Beano and Bare Wires. Quite possibly, his best and his worst. Lol. Thanks for everything. Have an amazing day! Mark

There's a good reason that Clapton is God slogans started appearing all over London after it came out. Bare Wires is a monotonous mess and even Mick Taylor couldn't save it. Mark, you've been given a gift on getting through to people without alienating them. Also, you talk TO your viewers, not AT them. As I said previously, "you're a hard person not to like." Continue to stay in that lane and you're destined to continue to add followers. Your hard work and conscientious nature will, and already is, paying off. After 4 years of our bombastic, narcissistic, and contentious previous leader; your easy going nature and the way that you distribute your knowledge is a welcome respite for most of us. I'm thankful that I "stumbled" across your site. Just don't do anything to make me regret it, but I don't think that suddenly you'll become a pretentious, horses ass. It's just not in you to behave that way. Now I have to get back to the shrine that I'm building to you(yes, I'm just joking). Keep up the good work!
First of all, it's always nice when someone you like shares your politics. 😃 its extraordinary that you used the word pretentious as no more than 4 minutes ago I texted a friend and said that this weeks video could be taken as 'you can do it too' or as being pretentious. It's called THE SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT GUITAR LESSON. Simple, play everything slowly, accurately, and in time before all else. I worked extremely hard on distilling it so there are no wasted words. I present it with a clear conscience as its basically a 5 minute presentation of what I cover to a greater degree with probably 95% of the 500+ students I've taught over the years. I believe to the point of obsession, that small adjustments to ones practice routine has an enormous impact on how far that player goes. Its amazing how many adult students (and the majority of my students are adults) simply cannot play slowly. They literally cannot slow something down to a snail's pace and get it right. It boggles the mind but it's TRUE. Anyway, I hope you enjoy it. This one has been cooking in my head since I started the channel and I believe that it will connect with a couple people and completely change their guitar destiny. I hope so. Have a great evening. Mark, you strike me as a somewhat of a perfectionist who is constantly analyzing if what they do is resulting in better or more productive outcomes. It's not how much you practice, but how well you practice. Certainly, if you practice well and put a lot of time in practicing well, too, then the odds of a person improving will go up. Look how much time and how many takes of one song The Beatles put in the studio; especially from Pepper on when they quit touring. By that time nobody doubted that they were the greatest band on the Planet, yet they stuck with a song until they got it right; sometimes taking 50 to 100 or more takes before they were satisfied. I'm looking forward to seeing you revealing your teaching technique. I'm certain that you've pared down your presentation to cover your teaching technique to the essentials and eliminating any unnecessary "fluff." I'm also certain your show will be informative and very interesting as well. Mark, I think your choice of "Walk Right In" is an exceptionally good choice of the song that really brought the 12 string into popular music in America and Canada.
You are right --- it had been used in mostly Hispanic culture songs, Eastern Europe songs, and to some extent, American and Canadian songs in folk songs, etc. but it was "Walk Right In" that really introduced it to our popular music culture. Well done, good choice. Doug ("Crossbow")

In my case, I found your channel after Trogly reviewed a Rickenbacker 360/12C63 about a month ago. It sounded so cool that I immediately searched "12-strings riffs" and your video was among the top results. Watched it, then a couple more, and subscribed. In the following days I watched a bunch more. I remembered thinking at the time (and was even gonna comment that at the time, but I don't think I did) that surely out of the tens thousands that watched Trogly's video hundreds or even thousands probably searched for more 12-videos and that probably would give your video and channel a bump in the almighty and mysterious algorithm.

Over the years, as you’ve stated, the 12 string has been in many, many songs. The general audience didn’t realize it. I got my 1st 12 string in 1968. It was used, and the neck warp was so bad, it would never stay in tune. I played it at the children’s mass at church (along with 2 6 strings). I’d say it was more like nails scratching on a chalk board. Lol The songs you’ve played have inspired me and today’s 12 string is much better than my 1st. People actually like when I play it. Can’t wait for those oldies! Keep on trucking Mark.
Got my frist 12 string second hand in 1970. Was an EKO built like a cricket bat. Played with only 6 strings the first 3 months so I could grasp the chords. Never looked back.

I know he strums one in the movie. I love the song. Here's a couple of Beatles songs that you may or may not know employ a 12-string. While My Guitar Gently Weeps (George uses a FENDER 12 to mimic Paul's bass line) and She Came in Through the Bathroom Window (the answer to the trivia question 'what's the last Beatles song with a 12-string on it'). Another well informative video !! I really enjoyed it !! My two favorite 12 string songs are "Hope" by Alex Lifeson of RUSH, and when John Denver plays "Rocky Mountain High" on the 12 string. John before is death, started to really Vocalize very clearly, the word "Colorado" on the 12 string guitar. You could hear Colorado plain as day. That isn't as easy as it sounds either. Vocalizing like that to me, is Talent ! He was another guitar genius !!

Great video Mark!! "Walk Right In" is a must for the 12 string! The thing to remember on a 12, the "money strings" are the bottom base string and their octave. It's what gives them their iconic sound!

I always loved 60s and 70s music but if I knew back I'm the mid 90s that the current music (counting crows, third eye blind, black crowes) was going to be rocks last gasp, I would have gone to a show everyday. Nice little walk through 12-string history! I was pleased that you landed on my own personal favorite, "Walk Right In," after a brief pause on my 2nd personal favorite, "I'll Never Find Another You" (sharing that position with "For Emily, Whenever I May Find Her," by S&G).
I think there's a hidden factor behind questions like this - a generational one. You're in a younger generation than mine; my pop-musical "roots" are more along the lines of Pete Seeger, The Byrds, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Seekers, Simon & Garfunkel, all of whom made great use of the 12-string, as well as many other groups who didn't, so much. Basically, the 1960's, and a bit in the 70's.
Your roots appear to be more in the 80's & 90's; and please do weigh in on what you consider to be the bands in your own "zone," if you please to.
The Eagles may be on the boundary between our "home territories." Possibly also Leo Kottke.
And the generation before mine, might well call on Leadbelly or Pete Seeger for this one. BTW, I heard, back in the 60's, from a fellow amateur guitarist, that Leadbelly used a standard tuning on his 12, except with a 2-octave bass E-string pair, and I think, a unison G-string pair.
Eagerly looking forward to your video on Leo! My personal favorites of his include Louise (wr. by Paul Seibel), Vaseline Machine Gun (heavily feat. slide work), and Pamela Brown. I must confess not having got much deeper into his oeuvre than those, so I'm looking forward to getting more immersed in his recorded works.

Nicely done. I remember the song when it came out in the 60's. I was 9 or 10. But as much as I like the sound of acoustic 12's, I'm a little partial to the electric 12. My favourite pre-Beatles song with a signature electric 12 string riff is Jackie De Shannon's 'When You Walk in the Room'. I believe Glen Campbell played on that record.

Great stuff. Of course I remember the song. But I was unaware of any of the differences in guitars at that point. I was 10 or so. My first introduction to a guitar would not be for another few years. Excellent Mark. Great to hear the Mexicans getting a well deserved rap. The guitar was in Mexico for a century before it sneaked across the Rio Grande. The bajo sexto (12), and its smaller brother, the bajo quinto (10), were traditional instruments in Mexico long before the six string became popular in America, around the time of the land rushes. Wagoneers were attracted to the six for compactness, lightness, low price and portability. It initially boomed in popularity as a worship instrument, pianos and organs not being very portable.
Interesting choices in your 12 string influences, Kottke and Butler. They are at opposite ends regarding their tunings. Kottke uses a lot of D, particulary Drop D and Open D, and is handy with the slide ('Vaseline Machine Gun' is his jaw-dropping Magnum Opus, and 'Jack Fig' is a personal favorite), and Butler favors Celtic tunings, with Drop CG and Orkney Tuning appearing in his works, with a capo well up the neck. I haven't worked out 'Ocean' yet but it's also heavily influenced by Celtic. He also omits the bass G from the 3rd course and plays an 11 string, which seems to work well with his tuning choices. You're right about "famous". Their were other names that spring to mind in 12 string history, chief among them 'Blind' Willie McTell, and Leadbelly. McTell had a profound influence on Dylan, and Dylan's nasally vocal treatment is a direct reference to McTell's voice. I've heard a lot of Dylan (who hasn't), and the only song I can recall where he sang in his 'own' voice was 'Lay Lady Lay'. McTell used an oddball tuning on many songs, sometimes tuning strings individally instead of the usual octave aprt. Leadbelly's 'Hangman' was a big hit for Led Zeppelin. Leadbelly also used a strange tuning but I don't remember it offhand. (Open E variant??)
Can't mention Leadbelly without giving Lonnie Donergan a well deserved kick in the gonads. Donergan's two biggest hits 'Goodnight Irene' and 'Rock Island Line' were stolen from Leadbelly and used without credit, he claiming to have written both. Objections were raised, but Leadbelly was an impoverished black man and lacked the resources to legally challenge Donergan, an international star. Long after both men had died, the Leadbelly Foundation took the matter up, and retrospectively sued Donergan's Estate. They produced published manuscripts that pre-dated Donergans own stolen works. The Court proceedings lasted several years, but Leadbelly's Foundation won. Compensation for Royalties not paid, reputational damages, damages for outright plagiarism, and legal fees, bankrupted Donergan's Estate. They appealed but the case was thrown out.
Bruce Woodley, The Seekers guitarist, revealed in an interview that he was heavily influenced by the 'Great Folk Scare' of the early 60's and began using the 12 as a result. He, in partnership, wrote the song that I and many others hope will become our National Anthem, 'I Am Australian'. Our current Anthem is a witless dirge that expresses a lot about Australia's natural beauty, but says not a word about the people. Woodley's song is enormously popular, and features a verse in one of the many aboriginal tongues.
My latest trip to the vortex, has yielded me a 12 string 'jo. Like I really needed a 'jo! But I can use guitar chords, so it's not back to square one. I've been watching for you to bob up nursing the Pelham Blue 339. You still have it?

I think people would be shocked to realize that the actual lodging establishment which shall not be named, is in the middle of the most touristy section of Santa Monica. The pier is one block down, and there's a Del Friscos grille across the street.

Are you talking about the fauxtel that Henley is suing because they're calling themselves 'The Hotel California?" The actual picture they use for the song is the Beverly Hills Hotel which is of course in Beverly Hills. I went to one party there when I lived in L.A. At the time, I didn't know it was the hotel the Eagles used. FYI, the party was really lame. Certainly nothing like the party in 'Almost Famous'. LOL. Thanks for checking out the video. @@8MinuteAxe Yep. It's kind of a dump. I stayed in the Leows next door. Nice place. Melon water in the lobby, free bike rentals, decent buffet, care rental on site.
@@8MinuteAxe it’s annoying that Frye and Henley who guided (with an iron hand) one of the greatest bands of all time into music history were/are such asses.
I suspect though that the assishness was a big part of their success. They demanded perfection in every aspect from writing to arrangement to rehearsal to recording and performance. Although all the members contributed so much (Felder’s guitar on Hotel? He should be in HOF just for that alone) it was definitely the Don and Glenn show.

I'll take your word for it as you seem to be the all knowing 12 string expert. I suppose it could be debatable since everything on guitar never seems to be clear cut on who did what and when they did it. That's the wonderful thing about subjectiveness in music. Great performance by the way!

For sure the Seekers were a HUGE influence on the 12-string. I've featured them in several videos and I've covered at least 3 of their songs. I really appreciate you sharing your story. At 55, I'm late in discovering the catalog of The Seekers. I knew Georgie Girl for decades, but I'll Never Find Another You left me speechless. I have since bought that 45 for my jukebox, and several albums. What a phenomenal group.

Mark, great video. If there were no Beatles, then the musical landscape would have been vastly different. The cross pollination that arose as a result of our music being done by young English guys absolutely was responsible and paramount to the future of music as we know it. Also, seminal works such as Mayall's Blues Breakers with Eric Clapton, along with other first rate English Blues Musicians led to a resurgence of interest in Blues Music and revived the careers of many of the Blues greats such as Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, et al. Mark, I think you're on the right track, and your knowledge along with how to express it; is and will continue to pay big dividends for you; now and into the future. I'm certain that many of your viewers don't even play guitar, but watch you anyway because you make interesting and informative videos. Also, you're a hard guy not to like. Take care my friend!
Hey Michael. Thanks for another very kind and very informative comment. I'm a huge music history buff (actually my wheelhouse is colonial American History. Lol) but my weak spots are definitely blues from the 20s to 50s. I started learning a lot more when I was researching a now aborted video called, In Search of the First Hard Rock Riff. I was going to work my way back from Sabbath, to Zep, Helter Skelter, You Really Got Me, Louie Louie, and land on Smokestack Lightning. The idea being that even though the riff isnt hard or distorted, the sensibility of the song is. As you probably know, there are many tunes that could vie for that claim so I kind of put it to the side. As far as the Beatles, they're such a phenomenon and cultural anomaly it's hard to measure or put in perspective, the impact is so far reaching. I'm so glad I connected with you on this video too. I thought youd appreciate it. For years, I only had two Mayall albums. Beano and Bare Wires. Quite possibly, his best and his worst. Lol. Thanks for everything. Have an amazing day! Mark
@@8MinuteAxe Mark, Mayall's Beano album is not only his best, but is the best British Blues album of all time. There's a good reason that Clapton is God slogans started appearing all over London after it came out. Bare Wires is a monotonous mess and even Mick Taylor couldn't save it. Mark, you've been given a gift on getting through to people without alienating them. Also, you talk TO your viewers, not AT them. As I said previously, "you're a hard person not to like." Continue to stay in that lane and you're destined to continue to add followers. Your hard work and conscientious nature will, and already is, paying off. After 4 years of our bombastic, narcissistic, and contentious previous leader; your easy going nature and the way that you distribute your knowledge is a welcome respite for most of us. I'm thankful that I "stumbled" across your site. Just don't do anything to make me regret it, but I don't think that suddenly you'll become a pretentious, horses ass. First of all, it's always nice when someone you like shares your politics. 😃 its extraordinary that you used the word pretentious as no more than 4 minutes ago I texted a friend and said that this weeks video could be taken as 'you can do it too' or as being pretentious. It's called THE SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT GUITAR LESSON. Simple, play everything slowly, accurately, and in time before all else. I worked extremely hard on distilling it so there are no wasted words. I present it with a clear conscience as its basically a 5 minute presentation of what I cover to a greater degree with probably 95% of the 500+ students I've taught over the years. I believe to the point of obsession, that small adjustments to ones practice routine has an enormous impact on how far that player goes. Its amazing how many adult students (and the majority of my students are adults) simply cannot play slowly. They literally cannot slow something down to a snail's pace and get it right. It boggles the mind but it's TRUE. Anyway, I hope you enjoy it. This one has been cooking in my head since I started the channel and I believe that it will connect with a couple people and completely change their guitar destiny. I hope so. Have a great evening. Mark, you strike me as a somewhat of a perfectionist who is constantly analyzing if what they do is resulting in better or more productive outcomes. It's not how much you practice, but how well you practice. Certainly, if you practice well and put a lot of time in practicing well, too, then the odds of a person improving will go up. Look how much time and how many takes of one song The Beatles put in the studio; especially from Pepper on when they quit touring. By that time nobody doubted that they were the greatest band on the Planet, yet they stuck with a song until they got it right; sometimes taking 50 to 100 or more takes before they were satisfied. I'm looking forward to seeing you revealing your teaching technique. I'm certain that you've pared down your presentation to cover your teaching technique to the essentials and eliminating any unnecessary "fluff." I'm also certain your show will be informative and very interesting as well. I believe that the Eagles used the 12 string on Hotel California and Take it easy. Don Henley has those song where you can’t play on RUclips. I am looking for a 12 string Bolt on neck going to try building my own, I have a block of mahogany. Maybe an SG style, probably makeup a body style!
