Ridge Lea - Lancaster County Lunatic Asylum - Abandoned

- #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek special.
Exploring this beautiful abandoned mental hospital we came across many echoes of the past, set amongst some of the most stunning Urban Decay we have ever seen.
Ridge Lea was built to accommodate the private patients of the notorious Victorian monster that was the Lancaster Moor County Lunatic Asylum, completed in 1883. Now renovated into private accommodation the Asylum still maintains a foreboding aesthetic and the Ridge Lea private quarters are the only evidence that remains of its former mental health use...
So join us for a feature-length adventure into the Mouth of Madness.
Oh yeah, we even get to see Adolph Hitlers Todger!

I worked here In the late 80s early 90s ... yes there was a padded cell.. I worked on the Halton unit some times the Castle unit while i worked there no children was in the unit ... age 18yrs upto around 60yrs that was on my units ... Thank-you for the video it was very interesting and brought back some memories ...
Absolute pleasure thanks for watching and sharing your history with us!
Absolutely brilliant video
Lived in Lancaster all my life my brother had a operation at the Moor hospital in the 80s and was sent to Ridge Lea because he was an alcoholic but didn’t stay long he was threatened by a looney
Good old days
I really like your videos 👏👏👏👏
Thanks very much m8 I appreciate the viewership?
The architecture of St Anne's is incredible to me I have lived near it years now and the place creeps me out glad St Kevin's is being turned into something positive going forward same should be done with St Anne's those tunnels hid some doings from years ago no doubt fab video
The trailer alone blows every single film I've seen out of it. I cant Wait for this one Clarky.
Lol, thank you very kindly Mr Prof
I had to visit a very extended family member at Ridge Lea more than a few years ago.
Amazing to see it now and another epic explore Clarky in your very own style.
Your explores are getting better and better.
So glad you think that brother thank you very much.
Thoroughly enjoyed this superb take on what was once a stunning architectural building. Just left for ruin. It kept going on and on a vast place, every seeing long corridors. So many nooks and crannies, The views outside from higher up. Stunning truly was. Did it justice. Keep up the good work once again Jason.
I’m glad you think I did m8 thank you x
Fantastic place, I have to say I've tried to watch let's say urban explorer but the video filming is all over the place like being on fair ride. Your videos are quality and your comments are brilliant , definitely the best urban explorer who makes it feel like being on the explore with you . Great work Clarky . Brilliant 👍
Aww nice one brother I trully appreciate that m8 and Il be back soon with a new season of films.
Another great video Clarky 👍you're enthusiasm for these places is second to none brother👍👍
Thanks for the upload I once worked at Ridgelea and the moor hospital.
Pleasure mate
Settling in with a glass of wine. Who needs Netflix, eh?
Respect brother!
Spent 2 months there in 91 nice one for the tour sir👍🏼
More than welcome brother thanks for watching and commenting man. I take it it’s changed quite a lot then lol. Where there kids in there hyphen pal or teenagers and up?
@@TheUrbanCollectiveWeFilmIt was a secure unit for adults then pretty mad place in every way. What a waste people could have lived there😡
Flipping loved that mate! Eye for detail is second to non
Respect brother thank you! Hail the notorious one!
I live about an hour away I've drove past once or twice. My grandmother's friends wife has an apartment there, she said to have seen a man or figure floating at the end of the bed with his arms out. I live near furness Abbey that was destroyed by Henry the 8th my mother and her friend took a picture a few year ago on a school trip and behind them stood a monk
No thanks lol.
Just been hear today it’s an amazing building to explore I really recommend visiting it if you like spooky buildings like this although it’s in a lot worse condition then it is in this video
Wow ! What more can I say except. Really cannot WAIT to see this explore Jay.
Thanks Diane I made it a long one too just to see if I could pull it off without you getting bored. The film clocks in at 1:37:16 so I just hope I’ve not over done it :0
Maybe a film made at night would raise the stakes for the nervous. I have a good venue here in Lancashire ASK
Gary still the star of the show
Lol oh yes! He’s back next week too or one after as we infiltrated Manchester’s Belle Vue stadium like ya do lol
that frontage lateron gives off a big denbigh asylum feel
I've yet to experience that m8 to be honest but deffo going to at some point!
Brilliant, thanks Clarky. I enjoy the hospital/asylum explores as I love the creepy vibes lol.... Hope you got to have a much deserved pint after that :) Much love x
Oh yes ;)
Belting, the walls are dripping with tormented soul's
,
It’s called a bullseye window not for a clock mate . Ta once again for another cracking video ❤
Makes you wonder what those poor buggers went through in those places.
Some epic paint peeling going on there, those corridor shots are stunning with that level of decay.
Your on top form lately, some really good explores you’ve been on
Cheers m8 plenty more to come I’m trying bridge the gap between RUclips video and film.
Great video mate. I worked there briefly just before it closed. One of the scariest places ive been inside of.
No way man so it was creepy even in good nick then eh.
@@TheUrbanCollectiveWeFilmIt yes mate, when I was there only one small section of it had 'patients' in(high security bit with the exercise yard) but there were still offices/admin bits still in use. One whole side of the building was out of bounds due it crumbling. Walking down those stairwells and corridors on your own was not good for your nerves.
pal ive put notifications on now , sorry got loads to catch up on your vids. gr8t explore
Cheers Rich hope your well pal.
another quality video mate .love em 🇬🇧👍
Hey
Been doing my homework
Ridge Lee did fully close until 2016...Although you were right in thinking bits of it closed much earlier
Was always a mental health assessment unit, with longer term patients moving to the bigger hospital
When it closed it was a 16 bed unit for males and females who were all sectioned (secure until)
So your instincts on the place were spot on! Xx
It apparently had a really good reputation
Oh cracking stuff nice one for looking it up Julie x
At your service! Xx
Was is always a mental health hospital? When it was first built? Any photos of it in previous years? Thanks
Used to be at Lancaster University in the mid 80's - we had an American mate who was temporarily in the Moor with a mild breakdown - it was a grim and foreboding place.
Yeah I can imagine m8 it looks terrifying and I suppose back then it was buried in the thick black soot of the industrial revolution!
You and monkey are the best by far ! What you do is far far better than you see on the box in the corner
Respect brother thank you. Programmes come from the box m8 to programme you whereas we entertain!
Its huge.... any info on it since? Was it connected to lancy farms?
Just amazing video.
A beast of a building. Get a real eerily feeling of abuse in that place.. child abuse for real..
My mates went inside of there but years ago a Yr 8 tried to go into there and fell through a floor and died
Can’t wait to see this it looks a good one
Bloody Brilliant
Can't wait, looks eerie!
Very eerie indeed my friend ;)
ps its 1:37:16 long!

Can't wait for this one Jay x
It’s absolutely stunning in here a proper last of us job x
Just effing brilliant in every way. What a video! well worth the wait.
Aww nice one Kenny I’m so glad you liked it m8. I tried giving it an old school 70s horror vibe but still making it feel modern.
@@TheUrbanCollectiveWeFilmIt It worked. Super creepy movie set indeed. What a location. The music was also a great choice. I like how you edit by sound interest. Very cool way to build a cohesive movie. Great. Much love Brother, Ken.
Love this amazing ..... MR CLARKY !!!!!!!
Thanks Nic
There was a childrens home but it was near the moor hospital it was called red oak house not at ridgelea

@@TheUrbanCollectiveWeFilmIt Brilliant! Ive missed the action ..toilets and all...ha ha ..glad alls good x

I'm probably going daft but if you pause it at 1:08:00 it looks like something peeping round the door, freaked me out anyway. Top video, paypal en route
Don’t tell me that Il never go again lol. Thanks so much for the tip guys we really appreciate it. It means a lot just to know you guys can sit through a flick of ours for that long never mind tipping on top of it. Much appreciated have a quality day.
Hiya Clarky. Thanks for the video' the architecture was very similar to that of St Josephs upholland just around the corner from me. Stunning building and a beautiful day in a splendid location. I had to get a message to you. I was deeply disturbed and I felt weird strange vibes as soon as you entered on the ground floor. I rarely sense anything amiss but maybe in your excitement you didn't pick up on it. I haven't read anyone else's comment's yet so nothing other than my view's are being expressed here. In the distance on the corridor of the ground floor I sensed the following scene very vividly.------- Tall thin men in pyjamas staggering closer towards me' Blood stained smears on green gloss paint from their hands I'm sure I see.----- Distanced behind them on this never ending corridor I see tiny nurses running to catch them up' their aprons pure white pristinely laundered meringue ' they wont catch them. My heart is pounding faster now' and then there's only one' it's all in my mind there's nothing there but are they really GONE?.
Well I’m not sleeping tonight... seriously though upon watching my own film back I feel differently about it than the feelings I had when I was there and the feelings are quite sinister!
Clarky and the gang, where are you all, havent seen anything for a while and missing the videos ?
Sorry m8 I’ve just been having a break from the editing I like to hit it hard for a month or two then just completely shut off from it. Keeps me sane lol. I’ve got some cracking films planned though and will be rereleasing my Belle Vue too. Hope your well m8 x
@@TheUrbanCollectiveWeFilmIt brilliant, my parents used to take me there when it was a zoo, and later the racing. Carnt wait
Oh youll love the intro then m8!
Omg I loved this so much...thank you for sharing it. It brought back some great memories of working in a psychiatric hospital and the many life long friendships
Thank you again
By the way, Stephen King is spot on. We’re all in the spectrum
Wow. Just wow ❤️❤️
Thankyou Julie I’m so glad you enjoyed it m8 and yes King is right about an awe full lot of things to be honest. Have a nice weekend m8 I’m glad we brought back some nice memories for you x

Awesome mate I remember this place well and setting off many alarms haha 😂
Awesome As usual clarky.....thought ya might have asked the other explorers if they knew were the padded cells were .ether way great explore mate until next time stay safe regards Frank & Lee..
Cheers Frank and yeah I never thought to be honest. Apparently that what we found was the padded type cell they were referring to. What a gaff eh brother?
Great explore love seeing the natural decay but parts of that building are in a very bad state of collapse
Over the lane opposite where you are is a convent run by sisters of mercy otherwise known as nazereth House I was there as a child I am 66yrs old now the nuns used to make us go there every Sunday as a choir to sing to them and every Christmas and Easter and so forth when going to and from school in Lancaster Town centre they used to have flashers from the asylum on the lane doing all kinds of shit terrifying for young kids who had to pass them every day comming back to nazerth house bad memories for some by the way love your stuff I am a true salford born and bred was in care at nazereth house for 5yrs in 1960 to 1966
Aww no way man I never knew about the children’s home m8 so thanks for sharing and yeah I can imagine it was quite daunting going past the place in general never mind with a. Load o flashers knocking about lol.
@@TheUrbanCollectiveWeFilmIt the penguin s across the way from the asylum are still there but it is an old folks home now back in the day was an orphanage baby section 2mths to 2yr old all for adoption3yrs to 16yrs old old people different floor very strick kids where working from age of seven in laundry from old industrial machinery and large Belfast sinks washed by hand worse than Oliver twist times to get a view in your head as to the way children were treated the asylum across the way also had a children's section just a bit of info on the kind of places people were sent to back in the 60s
Mint 👍🏻
Cheers Gareth
Stunning "GAFF" x
Another classic urbex video, a great place to explore and some minted mancunian terminology mate haha good start to my day seeing this I really like the backing tracks to these videos aswell they're very fitting and amplifies the experience as a viewer so yeah keep up the top work mate 👌👍✌
Thank you brother.
Brilliant film!
Thanks Martin
I found out that it was first built to house mentally ill ladies, seperated from the moors hospital who wanted more superior luxury. It was known as the ladies villa. Higher end care. They carried out electroconvulsive therapy there and closed in 2013.. so i reckon pregnant women, or women with small children would of beeb housed there too..
Cool thanks for history m8!
Better than a Stephen King film all day long (or night)! Well done Clarky!! Did shit myself seeing Gary in that room !

I’ve not played that but deffo looking forward to the old Castle Dracula aesthetics
Hmm I can tell you some stories about this place .
Ridge lea Lancaster Moor hospital.
Build early 1800s .
My mother worked in there as a nurse for many years ..looking after the patients there .she told me many stories about how they lived there. Some really nasty horrible people. Thatwas put in there . Some of the wards were on.lock down all the time the patients were that bad .
There was actually a patient that. Was in there that had to be locked in a cage .there finger nails were really big and they were not allowed out cos they were that crazy .
Some really wicked things happened in there nurses attacked when working on the wards . And people trying to escape .
It was a really crusome place to be locked up.in .
Thanks for your history m8!
thank you
@@TheUrbanCollectiveWeFilmIt thank you for your great you tube videos

I don’t think so m8 I just did that as a cool ending to make people wonder what happened. I think I prefer it that way. Cheers chris
Not too worry, It was a cool ending mate looking forward to the next one cya soon
i went there today and litreally everything is distroyed its covered in graffiti and people have tried to set fire to lile every room
Sad
Bro my school is litreally not even 5 min away from there (Central High)

I went there in the 80s and used to do cross country past their and get chased of patients if u didn't give em a ciggy know quite a few people been in their. b4 it closed it was a detox 4 drinkers. B4 Lancaster farms was there kirkam prison owned it and the prisoners used to come in vans to work on farm land hence Lancaster farms, also was young offenders now proper cons jail.
