    When Mt. St. Helens blew its lid I was 17 years old and living south of Boston, 3000 miles away. I remember being blown away that a thin film of ash laid itself down on my car 4 or 5 days later.

      celvester allison all the documentaries I’ve seen about Mt St. Helens seem to agree more with this person’s claim rather than what you just said were the “facts”, plus it looks like your info is from a blog and blogs can’t always be reliable. From what I’ve been learning, ash stays in the atmosphere a really long time and can travel a lot further than that, so I would hesitate to make a strong claim like that. Eyewitnesses saw and heard the shock wave shake their window panes in cities in the direction of the blast for great distances and ash can be a lot more affected by wind currents and can travel over different continents and even small “invisible” particles of ash can fall in layers heavy enough to be visible. I’m not saying ur claim is wrong but there’s a lot of ways his story could be true too and we shouldn’t be so quick to dismiss it.

      I was on a Canadian Army exercise at Yakima
      When things went bang and the ground shook we thought the Ammo point had blown
      Then it started to snow
      "Pack up and bug out lads...I think the US Army is going to need these barracks for themselves"
      My personal dosimiter moved almost a full point before I got home
      I don't know what that really means....but I still have it...issued in 1977 at 2.5....Now at 8.75
      Chernobyl moved it .25 over a month or so
      Japanese reactor (don't ask me to spell it) moved it .1
      So...the life time radiation dose of that dosimiter...was 10% from the 3 days exposure to St. Helen's ash
      Like I said...I don't know what that means in terms of rads
      Just if you get up in the morning and you're at 3 and when you go to bed it's 9....
      Well...it's kind of like that erection lasting more than 4 hours....
      You should see your doctor

    Accounts all over the world state that so much ash and movement was released that you could feel the vibrations in India and the ash covered the Earth for 3 months, causing spectacular sunsets, but it also polluted the atmosphere and created a geological-winter period. Thailand and Bangladesh were heavily flooded and the tsunami reached South America. The event was so important an artist made a painting called "Scream" that shows a woman screaming and Krakatoa erupting is in the background. P.S. Nice Video Dude :)

Your calculations are brilliant, and I am absolutely fascinated by tsunamis and I can only get these kinds of videos from you. Having witnessed the course of the 1883 eruption, a prominent Dutch family told that the tsunami arrived shortly after the huge blasts in August, the woman and children almost drowned but later reunited with her husband. And they fled up into the mountain. Only then they saw the cone collapsing giving way to a enormous pyroclastic flow that raged toward them in the mountains and scorched many to death. So how can you claim the cone collapsed before the tsunami and caused the tsunami?

    • @giantnerdsnake9958
      @giantnerdsnake9958 5 месяцев назад

      simple: the tsunami wave moved faster than the pyroclastic flow. I read the same account, they couldn't "see" the cone collapsing because it was already pitch black from the amount of ash expelled in the earlier phases of the eruptions.

  • @Winterfur1
    @Winterfur1 6 лет назад +13

    Krakatoa had three peaks before the 1883 eruption and the 2 smaller peaks collapsed into the caldera and half of the larger peak which created the largest known tsunami , now if you did ancient Krakatoa which was extremely tall like Mt Rainer and blew up and only left 3 tiny islands that surrounded 1883 Krakatoa Island imagine that tsunami.

    I watched a documentary, and it says the island collapsed into a crater full of magma. Then, millions of gallons of water surged over it and caused a huge explosion.

    • @ingomar200
      @ingomar200  10 лет назад +44

      Diamond Miner AnimaniacYes, there were several phases to the eruption. In the final phase, after all the magma in the chamber below was blown to the surface, the caldera collapsed into a crater.As you say, sea water then poured in and many steam eruptions took place.It is not possible however, that the caldera collapse and water inrush could create the size of the tsunami observed.Many people have tried to simulate the tsunami from caldera collapse and have failed to make big waves.There is just not enough water moved in that process to make it so. This is why I prefer the pyroclasticflow mechanism shown in the movie. This happened just prior to the caldera collapse.Thanks for the comment.

      Nicholas Cooper I prefer no music because music will always annoy about 1/3 of the audience, no matter what style.
      Narration might be nice though. Even a little, sparse narration. The creator of this video seems very educated and might have some further insights to help put these concepts into perspective to an audience of non-geologists like myself. Still... WOW! An amazing video! So glad I missed that one! A 35 meter wave! (For us Americans, that's ~115 feet!)
