MBV had no right to come out with something this exceptional after such a long gap since Loveless. This is as good as anything they've done and that's saying something.

I still remember the day this album came out. I had no clue, we had no clue. It sort of just... happened. I nearly died. Then I listened to it and I couldn't believe it... I still can't. This is so beautiful. There is something so very fundamental and natural about Kevin's chord choices... it's like going back to the womb. Pure love.

I love that the guitar melody here makes reappearances throughout the album. I wasn't sure about M.B.V. at first listen but a few listens later and it's mind blowing!

eckoecho I think "new you" has a similar chord progression, although I don't know if that's just me or if it was something intended.
I actually hear it more in "In Another Way" but not every time I listen to it. Like most of their work how I hear it really depends what I'm listening to it on. It does this cool thing where there are 2 layers. There is a background sound that is the melody and then this guitar in the forefront that sort of plays the rhythm. I could swear I hear a second or two of it in other places too but its gone so fast I'm never sure if it's actually there or not.
Well, Loveless sort of had a similar dynamic. Songs 3-6 sound intentionally derivative of each other in some ways.
I do love y'all. I really do. I've never felt real love for a band. There's bands that are my favorite but I don't love them like I do y'all. Your sound makes me smile and remember future things that even haven't happened yet. Shits transcending. I hope you never stop making music, Kev.

MBV is one of the best albums ever, it's another monolith from MBV. Easily my 2nd favorite album from them. If the new album ever comes out I bet it'll sound a lot like this album but maybe even expanded more. These labyrinth like chords that wander around and around and keep changing are incredible. This album is a whole nother beast then Loveless, and I can't wait to hear what he has coming next.

that subtle space in between a few of the changes is h e a v y. saw them play this once and the way Shields held back on the beat with the line that starts at 3:30 was amazing... felt like the whole song was slowly being opened into something.
If you're new here and shoegaze isn't clicking with you, think of it this way: the roles of the vocals and guitars are reversed from most genres. The vocals are intentionally in the background and support the central focus: the guitar tone, the layers, and the distortion it's all been fully baptized in.
When a guitar speaks as profoundly as any written poetry... Adore this song.
