Judging by the video there's doesn't seem to be much delay, and what little delay there is it's probably due to some webcam syncronization issues, so one could probably get pretty far at evo with one of those. It depends on the person of course, a pro will definitely get far with watever tools he uses.
Have finished my hitbox-shoebox-zerodelay controller and I want to tell you, guys, that it might be a bit trickier to drill those button holes for hitbox layout, as you need to place them pretty close to each other. So be patient and drill it at slow pace, otherwise there's risk of destroying the surface.
Gosh, I would consider this set up for R-Type alone. When I was in college back in the early 90's I used to play R-type on an arcade machine every lunchtime in the local fish and chip shop before buying my lunch; arcade games like this are a treasured memory from my misspent youth.
BlackDeathDragon666 I totally agree. Started to watch it but couldn't make it through whole vid because of his gum chewing. Very very very irritating! Fuk!
I built a arcade stick controller for my old school NES. Used a similar joystick and button kit as yours. Instead of the USB decoder board I used a cheap aftermarket NES controller. I put the prototype in a small pizza box. Workes amazingly well.
Nothing wrong with a cardboard box for housing a system. Back in the 90's I built a 386/486 (can't remember which) inside a VCR box. I built it for testing purposes - if I wanted to test cards, RAM, hard drives, all I had to do was lift the top flaps on the box, and the whole thing was there for me to access. I could play NES games on it too, and also the first Duke Nukem. :) I built it from scrap parts and spares, but it was a decent system for the time. :)
Started dying when he slammed the box one the table and said, "Welcome to the ghetto build, part 1." ps where the fuck do you live where a k-mart is still open? I think i could make history documentary about it.
Javier Matesanz all you have to do is buy a PCB that’s compatible with the PS4. The board is what determines what it’s compatible with. It’s like a mother board.
Yeah, i do have some plastic sheets i could use, and i also have some really hard cardboard boxes around 0.5cm thick which are almost as sturdy as wood, but i think using real wood would be the best option.
Eric Lecarde also these buttons are cheap but a good budget option. People usually reccomend sanwa buttons as there high quality but cost more. But yea wood is good and is what I'm planning on doing. Also I'm going for the cheaper sets as I'm not hardcore but I can always upgrade my buttons and joysticks if need be. Gl on your project
this would be good if there was a wooden frame on the inside of the box, watching you play its clearly not sturdy or heavy enough, and i would reccomend using a template to mount the buttons they looked quite off lol. cool nonetheless
I plan on doing a identical build to this but my main concern is how will my pc recognize the arcade stick? Will there be something I need to configure within the emulators settings?
Probably, it should work but if not there's always the option of 3rd party software such as x360ce. If that thing outputs as any kind of controller (and it should) you can map it with x360ce to a xbox controller which I'm 99% sure it works on Tekken, you just gotta drop the dll-s into the right folder.
Just got my buttons in the mail today. Noticed one pin on the joystick was bent, gently bent it back straight and connected it. Going to use an old NewEgg box and try and hook everything up tonight. Going to have to run to Kmart or somewhere and get some screws. Thank you Drew! Can't wait to start working on this.
DrewTalks I'm building one atm but with mdf but I've got a green puma box just like that which would look sweet with some yellow buttons. Might b good to reinforce the box with wood under it even. My shoebox is pretty thin. B more work though. Def like how efficient this is. Noice one!
neat. so when you plug the USB into your computer did you need to do anything to set it up? or did it register as a joy stick/gamepad with the buttons?
DrewTalks I guess I'm asking as a standard computer gamepad. I don't really want to run a Raspberry Pi or something I just want to make something and then connect it to my computer to play things like Steam games
Hey drew can you explain to me exactly how you got the shoe box stick working. I have mines all put together but at the emulation screen its recognized but not able to function amy tips did you use drivers or sudo to get it working?
i just plugged the stick with a 4 prong ribbon cable from the stick to the dragonwise usb encoder plug into pi and then configure new controller. Where are you having issues?
Love home made sticks I have been making them since 1996 and hacking hand controllers to make them. However I do hate sanwa sticks - hate all of them with a passion - happs or nothing. Great job though and good video and idea. A+
Mame UI and win 10 is very bad coz work good only win 7 8 and older but not on 10 very buged laging and crash. Try normal Mame not UI wery bad scalink on 4k monitor u can setup dpi but this is not help coz program crash on win 10 meny time. Unplayable for me i test UI meny time i like this but if u use win 10 forget UI.
pizza box masterrace
Cheapskates like me want to build me a arcade fight stick by out of a shoe box.
I wonder what people would say if he brought this to Evo lol
He would be a laughing stock, but he would have the last laugh if he could win evo with that shoe box.
So true lol
Thom Chhim Jokes on them. It is a functional joystick after all :)
Judging by the video there's doesn't seem to be much delay, and what little delay there is it's probably due to some webcam syncronization issues, so one could probably get pretty far at evo with one of those. Frutsy did bring his Xbox 360 console shell arcade stick to evo.
I only need to know one thing...
Are you wearing the shoes that came in that box?
guess we'll never know
@drewtalks
U need to answer this

Gonna use a refrigerator box for my setup.
LOL That would be epic
aguyandhiscomputer Gonna use a lunch box for mine. Have my cake and eat it too...Literally. 😃
Just a giant fridge on your lap.
@@theredcomet844 or between the legs
CREATIVE dude !!! U not only built an arcade stick from PUMA box but u also done a CHEWING ASMR too 🤣🤣🤣👍👍👍

Gum chewing making it very hard to watch
BlackDeathDragon666 I totally agree. Started to watch it but couldn't make it through whole vid because of his gum chewing. Very very very irritating! Fuk!
We can rename the channel to ChewTalks...
luzifuss2000
DrewChews
BlackDeathDragon666 lmaoooo all you hear is SMACK SMACK SMACK LOL... but nice to know
You must have never heard of Mecha Gaikotsu.
I built a arcade stick controller for my old school NES. Used a similar joystick and button kit as yours. Instead of the USB decoder board I used a cheap aftermarket NES controller. I put the prototype in a small pizza box. Workes amazingly well.
Drew, I love the guide and the idea of it, but please don't record while eating/chewing.
Sounds like he's smacking on gum. I couldn't watch the rest
Oh but that's the best part!
Not bad at all! Creative work demonstration! I would put some wood inside for additional weight! Don’t get the cardboard wet
Can you upgrade the box top to AIR JORDAN?
hahaha are you trolling because i did lol ruclips.net/video/tfo68xLRV74/видео.html
DrewTalks no I was being a clown lol dude this was the coolest thing.
DrewTalks no I was being a clown lol I just noticed you mentioned nike on the other video haha this is crazy! It’s fun to watch.
I aim to please!
This video is now giving me the inspiration to make a fight stick with a dominoes lava cake or sub box
😂🤣
This was one of the best videos on how to build one of these arcade controllers! Thanks for keeping it simple 😋
Thanks Baloo!

Now put a Raspberry Pi in there, running Retropie, or for way less cash stick an OrangePi, running Retrorangepi into it. :)
Someone better win evo with this.
So is this the new Ataribox Puma edition?
you know it ;)
The Sanwa Puma Pro
Started dying when he slammed the box one the table and said, "Welcome to the ghetto build, part 1."

Thanks man, this is gonna save me A LOT of money!
By the way, can u play like Tekken 7 on the joystick, is that possible?
Yea
Lol I did my prototype in a modem box years ago. Funny to see this become a tutorial.
What model of HORI pro fighting stick is this?!
This is awesome, i'll definitely make one
Eric Lecarde defenitly would recommend wood or plastic as cardboard won't be sturdy and the top may concave
Yeah, i do have some plastic sheets i could use, and i also have some really hard cardboard boxes around 0.5cm thick which are almost as sturdy as wood, but i think using real wood would be the best option.

Original and cool idea. I respect that, good job 😀
PROTIP: Maybe next time you could try to record without chewing gum.
THE ABSOLUTE MADMAN DID IT.
lol
I'm surprised you bothered with screws on cardboard. I likely would have hot glued the components in place then left it at that.
this would be good if there was a wooden frame on the inside of the box, watching you play its clearly not sturdy or heavy enough, and i would reccomend using a template to mount the buttons they looked quite off lol. cool nonetheless
I know that gum had to lose flavor before the first 10 minutes... did you keep adding more sticks?
no i chew through the non taste era
DrewTalks yes my B O I
In a shoe box?! This is the best
I may try this and glue some cut pieces of particle board to the corners add some stability to the underside of the box
Sir, what type and size of drill bit did you use for the buttons. I am going to attempt this on 2 old shoe boxes. Thanks in advance.
Its a shoebox...you really don't need a drill lmao
Any ideas for 4 player arrangement? In a cardboard setup.
Thanks for this demo, man!
my future project!
U're a legend
I plan on doing a identical build to this but my main concern is how will my pc recognize the arcade stick? Will there be something I need to configure within the emulators settings?
Hello, I ve got a question, It is only to pc or can be used with a tv?
What is that software that you are using? That "ARCADE" one. How can we able to get that? I really appreciate if you would reply. Thank you!
Is it okay to just let the pcb flow mid air like yours? My PCB didn't came with a pcb feet and I also don't want to pay extra for it.
Will it work with a PlayStation 2,3 or 4???
i know this is old but can the usb encoder works on ps4?
Can you tell me where to get the drill that you used to punch holes on the shoebox?
Man you made it out of an ordinary box. Great!! 😁👍🏻👍🏻
Which front end you were using in the video?
do you want to play there are additional programs on the arcade stick that you made? or directly can be played?
?
Nice getto controller. Looks like you done that before. Came out very nice.
Yes, did a similar build with different components :) Thank you.
Can the stick work on PlayStation or Xbox ?
Hey man I was wondering will it work on pc running steam I wanna play tekken 7 with my own custom made arcade stick :)
Probably, it should work but if not there's always the option of 3rd party software such as x360ce. If that thing outputs as any kind of controller (and it should) you can map it with x360ce to a xbox controller which I'm 99% sure it works on Tekken, you just gotta drop the dll-s into the right folder.
Hey do you recommend making a diy fight stick or some Chinese brand one
what software are you using to emulate those games, and where do I download it?
Retropie I have a bunch of videos on it
Just got my buttons in the mail today. Noticed one pin on the joystick was bent, gently bent it back straight and connected it. Going to use an old NewEgg box and try and hook everything up tonight. Nice, send me some pics when it is done!
Puma suede megadrive controllers!
YEAH!

Cool man, going to try this now, wow a shoe box arcade controller, bro you made this look so easy, laterz
Thanks buddy, it is easy!
What was the tool used to drill the hole
neat. so when you plug the USB into your computer did you need to do anything to set it up? or did it register as a joy stick/gamepad with the buttons?
depends on what emulator you are using
DrewTalks I guess I'm asking as a standard computer gamepad. I don't really want to run a Raspberry Pi or something I just want to make something and then connect it to my computer to play things like Steam games
I've given you your 1000th like. Welcomes
I don't have the Sanwa ribbon cable. I bet that I will have to solder it directly to the seimitsu ls32
Is this compatible to ps4 or pc?
Ameazing Arcade Stick
Thank you!
DrewTalks mined isnt usb based. I think thats where my isssue is.
get a drogonwise usb controller/encoder SUPER cheap
Does this method work for a Nintendo switch?
Do you know if I can use this with my PS4?
Thanks for the idea. Bang good no longer exists so I just have to find cheap controls elsewhere
Quite a beginner here, but do you need to know some programming to actually get all things working?
nope easy
@@drewtalks Perfect. Does the provided PCB only work for PC or does it work for PS4 too?
Hi this was an amazing and informative vid could this work with Android so I know before I get one
omg this is so great i wanna try to do one :0
it is great still have it!
can we use controller say an F710 as circuit board?
Didn't completely understand, what's this compatible with? Very nice job BTW!
anything with a usb...pc and raspberry pi most common
DrewTalks Thanks! I'll do something similar and try it on Android via otg.
how mutch dose the parts cost sir
probably around 20-30 total
I have the exact same shoe box, maybe I'll get one kit to try it
do it! Its a great box t use still running strong
think Ill build this shoebox setup....in wood though...and in ADIDAS
DAMNNNNNNNNN Competition ;)
Nice video
now thats what i call a LIDL arcade stick
Greater an idea sir j.
Can we use this in ps3 and ps2
Is this applicable on android phone?
can we connect this in to a pc and play some MAME games by emulater
it all depends on your encoder board but should work yes.
Could you put some extra buttons if you had?
12 buttons max I think
Does in work on switch?
can't wait for people to play on a banana
controller USB joystick kit con not get
Great Build!
thanks buddy and for all the great ideas
I'd do this to try different layouts before committing to a full build in a more robust form.
yeah good idea, there is a lot of different layouts you can choose with the buttons and joystick offset!
Love home made sticks I have been making them since 1996 and hacking hand controllers to make them. However I do hate sanwa sticks - hate all of them with a passion - happs or nothing. Great job though and good video and idea. A+
deckerdf have you been able to turn a ps4 pad to joystick?
My man you are POPPIN dat gum.
sorry old video never again
Cool!! 👍🏼
dose this one support windows 10 and Mameui emulater pc

Does it work on Android?
Neat way to test your system
I would think the screw buttons may work better.
But i like the way you did something original
thanks andy!
So this should work with other programs other than retropie mame etc?
yes
Does this work on xbox360?
Would this work with street fighter 5 or any other game? Basically the input would be recognised like a xbox pad or is there something else ?
Yes
Fuccboi: play me at Street Fighter V bitch...
This Chad: I'll beat yo ass using a shoebox boi
I can play any game with it right?
yup!
@@drewtalks oh ok..I thought it was only working for retro games (saw a comment)
Maybe you could of put a wood panel thin of course
yes you could
