I agree. I mean, John is completely right to try and win, but I get FNJ's frustration. He's very close to a fortress and a draw against an IM, but loses it after putting up lots of resistance. He just needed a few minutes to calm down. He did apologize later. I'm guessing John has forgiven him.
I really enjoyed the long drawn out end game actually and I completely agree with you John that just because the position is a draw based on what the engine says doesn't mean it's a human draw if that makes sense. I enjoy the fact that humans make mistakes in theoretically drawn positions because it means we always have to stay on our toes in certain position.
Interestingly enough, FreshNakaJuice-L was marked as a cheater recently, and his account has since been closed. FreshNakaJuices was also closed (didn't see whether it was marked as a cheater).
Yet again: fantastic video, John! Got an idea that might interrest you: you are a fan of Starbucks and their (I presume) ice(d) coffee(s)? This is what you do: 1. go to your local Starbucks, 2. contact manager and tell them about your channel (subs etc.), 3. tell them you can endorse Starbucks (as you're already doing) 4. Get free Starbuck Coffee for life :)
Interesting game. Back when I used the Caro as my exclusive defence to 1. e4, I always played the 3. . . c5 line against the Advance. I chose it due to the fact that there were certain lines in the regular Advance Variation that just gave a free advantage to White (namely the Bayonet Attack and the Van der Wiel). John, I don't know if you accept opening requests, but I think it would be really really interesting if you could try to get a game in the Nimzowitsch-Rubinstein variation of the Sicilian. It's a very unique line and there isn't much information about it on RUclips. I've always said the if a variation is named after both Nimzowitsch AND Rubinstein, it has to be good.
Would be nice to see may be a match(2 games; one with white and one with black) in rapid time control(15+10 for example) vs some strong opponent with futher analyses of that games from each side.
Hello, John! I really hate meet Caro, and usually I play 2. c4 in this situations. But I reach really bad positions. What do you advise: go deep and seriously into 2. c4 theory (Accelerated Panov attack) or learn something better. What kind of white's response do you don't like most?
If you don't mind accepting the IQP, then the Panov-Botvinnik is a good choice. Unfortunately virtually every try against the Caro-Kann entails extensive theory if you hope to get a good position! The Advance Variation is in the best theoretical shape for White at present.
Does stock fish offer or accept draws, or do they just play for repetition and 50 move rule? If not, it would seem even engines agree with John, you got to prove it, man.
John an idea: play old school chess computer games(chess mates, chess master) or new ones like pure chess and give your review of the programs and compare and contrast with humans and modern engines. Think those would be interesting and broaden your channel content.
when you put your rook to b4 i thought it was like the 47th move already but i found it the 19th move then i was like they think like grandmasters because you think so deep, so good game guys
People take draws for granted. Like John said, it's reasonable to expect them to prove the draw. Now, when they are in an utterly lost position and refuse to resign, that can sometimes be a bit annoying. However, they still have the right to demand you prove it. That's almost a gray area with chess etiquette it seems
John, great video as always. I was wondering if you could consider creating a vote chess game similar to what Danny is playing - www.chess.com/votechess/game/92208. It could be Fins vs #TeamScandi where we could all play against you and you could create short videos commenting on the moves you play and overall the game. Give it a thought.
First, over-the-board chess are played with bigger time controls. Second, ratings on chess sites can't really be called adequate. Third, he wastes time on talking an explaining stuff when he could've spent it on thinking.
Nice demonstration of human chess from the black side. Would be nice to see you play against human players rather than this kind of "sweetened cybog" :-) Maybe you can get in touch with en.lichess.org/@/Sparklehorse who is tired to play engines too :-)
I regularly reply to my opponents, so you're off base. If I don't reply it's because I didn't feel it was necessary, or I'm recording and therefore distracted.
This just proves how the opposition on Lichess is weak. After 15 games John basically reached his peak on the ICC 15-min pool. Please, John, get back to ICC!
You can't compare the ratings on both sites either. Rating systems can only be compared within themselves because each has a different user base. I think John's 5 minute rating (not pool) on ICC is over 3000
+ThinkingSk3ptically the point is that 1800 on Lichess isn't the same as 1800 on ICC. For one thing, the starting rating is 1500 on Lichess. The rating only shows your rating in comparison to everyone else using that particular rating system. Everyone should be higher rated on Lichess than ICC because you have a higher start point.
The draw is there as a convenience in case both players want it. No one is ever obliged to take a draw. It's kind of bad etiquette what white did.
+Colin Wood Yea offering like five draws in a row then berating your opponent for not taking the draw after you lose is just plain rude.
+Jason Rawls FNJ did end up apologizing in the chat for the draw offers; I think his frustration is understandable.
I agree. I mean, John is completely right to try and win, but I get FNJ's frustration. He's very close to a fortress and a draw against an IM, but loses it after putting up lots of resistance. He just needed a few minutes to calm down. He did apologize later. I'm guessing John has forgiven him.
Colin Wood egos, egos everywhere

It's very simple: this is a game, I wanna win, if the chances of me winning is higher than me losing I'm gonna play on.
Interestingly enough, FreshNakaJuice-L was marked as a cheater recently, and his account has since been closed. FreshNakaJuices was also closed (didn't see whether it was marked as a cheater).
+Karl Wallulis I'm not surprised. The guy doesn't know proper chess etiquette nor chess coordinates. And rated 2400+...
+Karl Wallulis His 3rd account "Freshnakajuices" has been closed too...
Karl Wallulis How exactly can you cheat at online chess?
Simple. Run an engine while you are playing an online game, and play the suggested engine move.
that explains how he lost. When he got in time trouble, he didn't have enough time to use his engine anymore
Yet again: fantastic video, John!

lol. If only it were that easy... :)
John Bartholomew yeah but now you almost have 50k thats almost a given
Great video John! This guy was kind of annoying in the end... well played! Please keep doing this stuff on lichess!
Thanks, aexl!

+John Bartholomew Thank you!
Why the opponent has a different nick in the chat? It seems like he was playing with the -L nick and reading spectators chat with the other one.
+littleroff I noticed that too. He had to have been logged on with two accounts simultaneously.
+Uerdue oh, that makes sense. Thanks!
He used the other account to run an analysis board, dirty
A caution about fully trusting the lichess engine for analysis, it only goes to depth 16 I think.
I really enjoyed looking at that endgame lol, gg :)
Does stock fish offer or accept draws, or do they just play for repetition and 50 move rule? If not, it would seem even engines agree with John, you got to prove it, man.
Clearly Fakename I get this is a year old, and you probably asked it sarcastically, but engines are brutal and don't consider draw offers.
Clearly Fakename I
after declining the second draw the guy should have taken the hint
13. Bf4 is against all rules of chess, should be marked with ? and mistake by engine
outstanding dear john sir your torment your opponets in endgame that is great thankyou for this liitle great game.
Olegas would approve of this game ;) Nice grind, John.
John an idea: play old school chess computer games(chess mates, chess master) or new ones like pure chess and give your review of the programs and compare and contrast with humans and modern engines. Think those would be interesting and broaden your channel content.
Two beans nice...I've always just resigned myself to my one-bean fate. Not sure why I never thought to ask for both!
when i look at his profile on lichess it states he uses a chess cumputer
Adam lol
when you put your rook to b4 i thought it was like the 47th move already but i found it the 19th move then i was like they think like grandmasters because you think so deep, so good game guys
Interesting game, FreshNaka gave you a really good game.

Danny and I have discussed this, so I may do it! :)
YOU THA MANNNNNNNNNNNNN JONNNEHHHHHHH
It looks like the top rated player in the classical time control on lichess is "only" ~2550. I'm sure you'll be eyeing the top spot in no time. :)
The whole point of the Caro Kann is to keep your Queen's bishop free to develop, so this is very unfortunate. Still a nice game! Cheers.
+pgbluster OK, not the WHOLE point, of course - I take that back.
+pgbluster I'm a big fan of the 3..c5 and was glad to see you play it. And thanks for the very thorough analysis of that endgame
So, our chipotle order is the same... We're chipotle bros
superb just love it.but you are an im and you have also problems beating your opponents.lower rated than you or 2300.??why is that ??

Magnus would even play on if he wasn't a pawn up
I dont think i could draw this Even if i was black
Great game
lmao, your opponents name
#instructive
How come you never reply to your opponents. Or even acknowledge their existence for that matter.
+Harinath R He does, after the video. I think he doesn't like to type stuff while recording.
I regularly reply to my opponents, so you're off base. If I don't reply it's because I didn't feel it was necessary, or I'm recording and therefore distracted.
+John Bartholomew I probably am. Also, do you think 73. bxH5 would've led to a black win?
This player played very well in the beginning but when the time started ticking he was just movibg pieces, might be using engine, great game john
I'm not so sure about chicken being a healthful food. If one eats whole food, low fat vegan there is no need to count calories.
This just proves how the opposition on Lichess is weak. After 15 games John basically reached his peak on the ICC 15-min pool. Please, John, get back to ICC!
You can't compare the ratings on both sites either. Rating systems can only be compared within themselves because each has a different user base. I think John's 5 minute rating (not pool) on ICC is over 3000
I have been ≈2200 on Lichess (classical rating, of course), however a ≈1800 on the ICC 15-min pool is usually stronger than me.
+ThinkingSk3ptically the point is that 1800 on Lichess isn't the same as 1800 on ICC. For one thing, the starting rating is 1500 on Lichess. Kelli Watts No, that's not it. It is mostly due to Lichess using Glicko-2 whilst ICC uses Elo. Anyhow, these technicalities are bloody boring...
+ThinkingSk3ptically True! :) Nice win John!
