Robert De Niro, an iconic American actor and film producer with an estimated net worth of $500 million, has deep roots in New York City. Born and raised in the City That Never Sleeps, his impressive real estate portfolio shows De Niro's love for his hometown.
Before diving in, it's important to note that De Niro, a famously private individual, prefers a reserved lifestyle. If given a choice, he would rather spend an evening with his family than attend a wild Hollywood party. However, his homes are far from modest.
Let's start with his primary residence in Gardiner, New York. This estate is located on a colossal 98 acres of land in a quaint town with a population of less than 6,000. De Niro acquired the property in 1997 for $1.5 million. The house, originally an 18th-century wood-frame farmhouse, has been extensively renovated. Now, it boasts six bedrooms, seven bathrooms, a barn-turned-recreation center, a gym, game room, sauna, swimming pool, office, small film studio, ski slope, and basketball and tennis courts. Two guest houses and a workshop space complete the estate.
Next, we move to De Niro's former penthouse in the Tribeca neighborhood. This opulent penthouse, with panoramic views of the Hudson River and Manhattan skyline, was created by Belgian designer Axel Vervoordt and Japanese architect Tatsuro Miki. The design is based on the Japanese Wabi concept, emphasizing imperfections' beauty. The layout includes open-plan living spaces, a master suite, three bedrooms, and sprawling outdoor terraces.
De Niro also owns a stunning penthouse in the West Village. This luxurious property, acquired in 2012, features five bedrooms, 4.5 bathrooms, and 11,000 square feet of living space. The interiors boast floor-to-ceiling windows, a wood-paneled library, a media room, a formal dining room, a home office, and a living room with a wood-burning fireplace. The landscape terraces offer breathtaking views of the Hudson River and the Manhattan skyline. Despite listing the penthouse for $40 million in 2015, it was sold for $18 million.
Another notable property is De Niro's former duplex at The Brentmore, an ornate 12-story apartment building overlooking Central Park. This 15-room pad, with a 32-foot wide living room and large picture windows, was a luxurious home for the actor. Unfortunately, a dryer-induced fire in 2012 caused significant damage, leading De Niro to move to a full-floor pad on Central Park West.
Lastly, let's look at De Niro's Malibu beach house. Designed by architect Ron Goldman, this oceanfront home features four bedrooms, three bathrooms, a two-story entry, a foyer overlooking the ocean, and floor-to-ceiling glass walls. Recently listed for $21 million, the home offers unparalleled views of the Pacific Ocean and embodies De Niro's sophisticated style.
De Niro's real estate portfolio is a testament to his love for New York City and his appreciation for high-class living.
