  • Beim Schlafengehen (Hermann Hesse)
Nun der Tag mich müd gemacht,
    Soll mein sehnliches Verlangen
    Freundlich die gestirnte Nacht
    Wie ein müdes Kind empfangen.
    Hände, laßt von allem Tun,
    Stirn vergiß du alles Denken,
    Alle meine Sinne nun
    Wollen sich in Schlummer senken.
    Und die Seele unbewacht
    Will in freien Flügen schweben,
    Um im Zauberkreis der Nacht
    Tief und tausendfach zu leben.
-- Don't be shy to sing along classical Lied --

Wonderful to see and hear the formidably complex and rich orchestration reduced to 2 hand piano and still the harmonies are just as beautiful. I feel these songs are Strauss at his absolute best!

Exquisitely and sensitively played. But VERY difficult to collaborate as a singer, with this tempo, all the indulgences taken in the accompaniment. These are high and very sustained phrases for the soprano. Without a moving tempo, the singer loses breath at the ends of these very long, high and sustained phrases. But truly, this music is SO exquisite....I can understand a pianist wanting to play it alone as a solo piece. Thank you for sharing your artistry.

This is an intelligent, sensitive 'singer's' accompaniment. And additionally, a gorgeous sound! Thankyou so much for posting.

After having listened to this song recorded by many artists, I never realized how truly beautiful the accompaniment was. Thank you for posting.

These fall so short when just done on piano. Strauss’s orchestration are other-worldly! “Being Schlafengehen” is my most favorite art song EVER

Beautiful playing! To the singers, if you've attempted to sing with this, just understand that there are 2 additional 16th notes added (A2 and A3 played in succession) at the end of measure 20 that are not in the score extending the measure by 1 beat. If you don't observe those 2 notes in the bass as a 1 beat rest, you'll come in a beat too early to land on "wollen" which comes in on the first beat of measure 21. Have Fun!
