- Changing over my stock handle bars to 12" LA Choppers Twin Peaks ape hangers. It was an easy job and I'm glad I took this on instead of paying Harley to do it. They quoted me $1500 and with me doing it and all the parts, it ended up costing me about $250. Well worth it. Special thanks to RUclips channel Ride it Wrench it...
Great work! Looks really nice. Considering the exact same bars for my 2015 SGS. Matching paint jobs so it was nice to see yours. Thanks for sharing.
I am in the process of putting the same bars on the same color bike as yours. Looking forward to the outcome. Thank you for sharing. Ride safe.
good luck man...
Did you think about 14's. It looks l they are right above the fairing. You still happy with the 12's?
Thanks man I really appreciate it it should be ready Friday this week I can't wait I'm getting the same handlebars that you have
Very cool. I’m getting ready to install 12 inch apes on my HD SGS.
Thank you, good luck. It's going to be awesome...
Awesome! Thanks man, really helps out my decision on 12 or 14s. Bars look great. Good job.
Good luck with your decision... I appreciate the comment!
Hey buddy I replace the new handlebars and I love it I can make U-turns a lot easier now and handle the bike a lot better and looks a lot better too thanks for the video man I really appreciate it keep up the good work
Hey Vivian, congrats on the new bars. It definitely feels like I have better control with the new bars... You're welcome, I'd love to see the final product of your scoot.
Bars are on and went for a test ride. It should have been the first thing I did to my bike. Love it.
Awesome... Ride Safe.
They look awesome sir come back 1/2 inch they close
Looks bad ass
Had an issue with the TBW green plug. It wouldn't turn the corner in the bars on my 2010 Roadie. Just eliminated the plug. It is a night and day difference with looks and comfort.
Thank you very much for the great instructional video I'm doing the same thing to mine I hate those standard handlebars from Harley
Absolutely... The stock bars are just awful. You'll love the ride with the new bars. Good luck with the install!
Lets try this again not posting under my daughters frigging youtube sign in. LOL Thanks for the great video. I have the same bike and finally getting bars done. Can't decide between the 10" and 12" Twin Peaks. @@RottFink
@@patton94954 LOL, That's funny... I've ridden my buddy's bike with 10" but not Twin Peaks and it really didn't feel all that different to me. I went with the 12" because I liked that they were a bit higher than the fairing. I'm sure no matter which you chose you'll be happy with them... Good luck!
Great results thanks for posting. little bit wondering if i would go with 12 or 10 LA Choppers i'm 168 CM tall i'm sick of the stock handle bar. an advise from you would be great. did you buy anything extra i mean rather than the handle bar it self a list would be great. and sorry for lots of questions
+Yazeed D Thank you... I'm 5'8" and these 12" are perfect. They sit just about shoulder height. Other than the handle bars, I chose to buy the polyurethane bushings and switch wire extenders... The wire extenders made the job easier, but you can still do the job without them.
12" LA Choppers Twin Peaks apes - J&P Cycles P/N 162-988 - $239.99
Arlen Ness Polyurethane bar bushings - J&P Cycles P/N 08-029 - $26.99
Harley switch wire extenders - Harley P/N 69200034 - $28.99
Hope this helps!
+RottFink Thabks a lot really appreciate it man
I'm hoping with my 2013 streetglide I can fit 12s. I found some 12s that are 33ins wide so with them being inches closer than yours they should work
Looks sharp what is it like to see in the mirrors? I’m installing 12” and ordered bar mirrors just in case
Thank you, It's not hard at all to see... I always turn my head just in case.
What made you decide on the 12" vs 10"? I am 6'2, skinny and have a hammock seat on my 14 SG special. Need to do something different for comfort. Great video, was sketchy about trying this myself till now. Thanks
I appreciate that. I went with the 12" because I wanted a decent change from stock and didn't have to get new extended wires or cables. Made the job very easy to do. Good luck...
Great video! Where did you get the riser bushings at? Which ones did you get online Arlen Ness has a fine or a coarse thread? Thank you!
Thanx 4 the vid. I have a 2010 Ultra w stock bars. I'm 5'4" ,stocky build. I was thinking bout getting 10" but frends telling me I wud be happier with 12" bars. I'm concerned with seeing the fairing mounted mirrors kit that I recently installed and clutch cable length. I know I will need the wire extra kit.
You bet man! I'm pretty sure that the 2010's will require longer cables... Please don't hold me to that, as I've never done a 2010 Ultra before. But if it does need the longer cables, it should still be a fairly easy project. Just a little bit longer to change out the cables.
Does your bike have ABS? If so, and you have to put the longer cables on, you will need to reset your ABS light after getting it up and going. Any dealership or good motorcycle shop should be able to take care of that for you.
I'm glad I went with the 12" bars... I'm 5'8" and stocky as well. I have no issue seeing out of the stock mirrors. 10" bars may present a bit more blockage. I'd do a lot of research and talk to as many motorheads that you can who are knowledgeable with working on your particular bike.
Good luck and post a video of your outcome!
Do you think you could pull those back a little without screwing the turning radius. I have ordered these bars for my 2017 SGS. I just want them back a little and not as far forward as you have them
Nice job brother 👍🏻
thanks man...
Yup I'm getn 12s very nice
Thanks man, you'll love them...
Are the 12” bars affecting your hands in the cold weather or wind?
It hasn't been as bad as I thought.
I'm trying to order the LA CHOPPERS twin peaks for my 2014 street glide and site is telling me they won't fit on a 2014 SG
How's is your angle view from the mirrors now? Do your arms obstruct the view?
It's not as bad as I thought it was going to be. I'm 5'8" so I don't sit to high. I do have to raise my elbow a bit to see, but not compromising my grip at all...
What wires did you have to extend?? And what was the kit number?? Thinking about doing this to mine. How long did it take you?
Are your hands colder now? Looks like they in the wind a bit . Thanks.
I feel a bit more wind, but they're still close enough to the top of the fairing that most goes over.
question did you have to extend the wiring and cables I have a 16 sgs and the dealer told me I have to extend them but I've been watching video and it's all about cutting a few zip ties and move the kine a little on the clutch and brake hydrolic master cylinders also sold me a new riser Holder thing no clue they said that I had to have it because of bigger bars to orevent the bars from moving let me know please thank you
On the 14's &15's you can fit up to12" bars without extending any of the wires or cables. I added the wire extenders because I wanted it to be easier. The cables had just enough slack to not have any tension on them. It worked out perfect.
As far as 16's, I would imagine that Harley would still be adding the longer cables as they did on the two previous years. Please don't take my word on it because I haven't worked on a 16' yet. Do your research. You don't need the wire extension kit to make it work. Just makes it a bit easier and for $30 it was worth it to me.
Make sure that when you're putting the clutch and brake master cylinders on that you have the cables routed where they're not binding and you'll have about and inch of extra cable on each one.
If the riser holder thing you're talking about are the riser bushings, then yes you absolutely want to put poly bushings on them. They're much stronger than the stock bushings, and the taller bars won't have as much play... Good luck and make a video and share it with me so I can see how it comes out!!!
hey Rottfink, where did you get the wire extenders from? thanks bro, good video
Appreciate it. I got them from the Harley dealership. part # 69200034
does this require 2 extenders or just one? Great video BTW!
Thanks man, It comes in one pack.
@@RottFink Thank you for the video. I have the same bike. Finally getting bars changed. Having a hard time deciding between 10" and 12" Twin peaks.
nice job.
Thank you!
why did you add the wire extinction I did not think you had to do that
From what I heard, the extension kit wasn't necessary. But, The extension kit wasn't expensive and I wanted to make sure I had no unnecessary tension on any wires. Just precautionary I guess.
I have a 14 flhx is there a place to get a video to install I have very little experience with mechanics.... Great video BTW
Thanks Toad...
here is a link to the video I followed.

The only issue you may have a bit of time wrapped up in is getting the wires through the bars. Just take your time and don't force them and you should be good. Everything else is a piece of cake. Just follow this step by step and you're golden. His video is an extremely precise video on everything you'll need to do to accomplish this change.
This is by far the best upgrade I've done to my bike.
Good luck and keep me posted on your progress if you decide to tackle this yourself.
Ok so I have a 14 ultra if I went 12 apes I wouldn’t need new cables ?
Everything should be exactly the same as the SG, so you should be good to go...
Can u see out your mirrors with 12 inch bars? I am 5’ 11
I'm 5'9" and don't have any issues. I still find myself dropping my hands when looking though. Just habit from other bikes I've had with apes.
how long did this take?
+pyro707..... It took me about 2 hrs total to do it, but I spent about 45 of those minuets getting the wires through the bars.
