.....couldn't agree more, Tony, an absolutely brilliant song, has it really been 45 years now???..... I know that when a song's first few intro bars see the hairs on my arms rise!!...and ya know?....it still does it to this day....RIP Astro....at his stellar best here!!!
I first heard this song in 1980... It really struck a nerve back then and it does today.... The message I got was life is short. there is no afterlife and live your life the best you can. I took these words to heart and now at the age of 56 I have had an amazing life... I'm still toking, lived it to the max and have so many warm memories of a life beyond my wildest expectations....Jah Bless UB40
I was lucky enough to see the Present Arms tour in Perth Western Australia, we got a petition set up at the local record shop as they had left Perth off the tour due to its remoteness. The band were shocked at the response and fitted in a date for the fans. We met all the band and they invited us to the after party. They were superb to us. The local radio station 96fm broadcast the concert live, it was the first time they had ever done it. Astro handled himself elegantly when spat on by a local thick skinhead, imagine listening to that unfold live on the radio! I will never forget it. UB40 at their absolute best.
USED TO PLAY THIS ON THE MUSIC BOX IN THE LOCAL WHEN I WAS SOMEWHAT INEBRIATED ON A SAT. NIGHT, THIS AND "MAGIC BUS" BY THE WHO, MANY MANY YEARS AGO, AND IT'S TAKEN ME ALL THIS TIME AND SEARCHING TO FIND WHAT IS THE UB40 BAND, BUT ALL I COULD REMEMBER OF THE SONG WAS"BURNING TWO SPLIVS AND ROCKIN' TO THE MUSIC. hmm, well long search now over, at last "
Damn I wish I could have seen these guys in 1981! Saw them in 87 and it was OK but they had gone too commercial and poppy by then. The only tune they did off Present arms was one in ten.
Don't let it pass you by. The last bus to the trombonemusicallessons in the musical school downtown. I'll bet you 'll met your favorite drummer and bass guitarplayer, before you turn 16. With or without vaccin.
I want this played at my funeral. Truest lyrics ever written. Been echoing around my head for 42 years. The best.
This was played at my uncles funeral and I’ve listened to it most times every day
