What does it take to prepare our motorhome for travel and is it difficult to set up when we arrive at a new campsite? This week, we're sharing our travel day routine: the steps we take to pack up and set up our Class A motorhome on a travel day.

I must say you two keep that rig and the toad looking good!
Nice video. We plug in and level first, then put the slides out with one inside and one watching outside. Then we turn the coach motor off. It seems to be less stress all around on the MH. Once in a while when our site is alot less than level, we need to hit the auto level again after the slides are out to just "'tweak" it. Our list comes out when we first start our trip, but usually not needed after a few setups. When we stow the DirecTV dish, we leave the cupboard doors open until it is stowed, then we don't drive off with it up!

My understanding was from Newmar that slides always out and inn on air (airbags) after starting and fully deployed 🤔 just was wondering. Great video 😊 Thanks
We do it both ways depending on how level the site is and if I feel like I might need to possibly move to get level. I’ve actually heard it both ways at the service center but mostly they like the slides to go out first & in last.
Thought we had this process down as newbies but thanks to your video, were still learning and not breaking stuff during travel days!

Great video. I use quick connects on all of my water lines - not just the black tank flush. It really makes set up and take down easy! While we are part-timers - we also are selective on what we set up and tend to vary it depending on weather and campsite quality. I would be interested to see how you use your bays for storage!

Just wanted you to know…we were in Moab recently and we reviewed your video from when you were in Moab a couple of years ago and visited the Moab Museum of Film & Western Heritage and had dinner at the Moab diner- both per your recommendations. Both places were awesome. My husband is a huge John Wayne fan and loves old westerns-and now that we’ve been to Moab (Arches & Canyonlands NP)-it’s fun to see the scenery in the movies. You must go back to Moab and go to Canyonlands NP. Thank you for all your hard work on your videos. We’ve checked off some great places off of our lists!

A very informative video - especially for this newbie. Newmar told us they recommend bringing the slides in and out with the airbags inflated rather than with the jacks down. Their rationale is that the slides were installed with the coach aired up so it’s better to run them in and out in the same fashion as when they were installed. Our delivery tech did say if you are on a site that that would twist the frame you should level first then take the slides out.
That is the same rationale that we use because it has had a problem if we were not level at all, and leveling first helped the big slide go out much easier! Thanks Rob!
We always used a check list especially when leaving campsight. Checking items like is the TV anntena down and is the awning hooked properly and secure. Once saw a motorhome leaving it campsight draging its power cord. Also once saw an awning come loose and open while going down the highway. After filling with air it was ripped off and nearly hit a car that was following. Thanks for the good tips and the interesting video.

I like to watch these types of videos even though we are experienced because I almost always pick up a better way to do things. I like to take off the magna shades the night before after sundown. I will try rolling the magnashades together versus individually like we do now. My water connections are a series of quick disconnects - looks like you use them too. Big time saver! We do the same night before planning - all great tips you provided. We include determining the final fuel stop for the day - as I like to fill up before stopping for the day! Safe Travels Ya’ll!!
Yes they are time savers! Good idea on the magna shades!
Use a pool noodle to roll the Magna Shade up, it is easier.

@@rvamericayall We are getting PM and repairs done now. Heading to the mother ship in Indiana next month followed by a month-long trip to Michigan, Ohio, KY, TN and more. This week we're taking a Jeep trip to the Hill Country for a week or so. Of course, we are going back to Galveston this Fall. Y'all travel safely and get back to Texas soon.

We use it for trip planning but not as a GPS.
Questions, it was nice to meet you briefly at Hearthside! Most Motorhomes do have built in surge protectors. I have thought about getting what you have. What is your opinion on that?

Good video 😊 since you how a large solar system why do you have to plug into shore power before putting out or in slides do it draw that much power safe travels
Not at all, you don’t have to be hooked to power. We do it that way because we have the power right there so why not use it!

Looks great guys! I'd be a little concerned with the hose cap on your fresh water hose sitting exposed on the ground, especially if near a sewer drain.
We always are, that’s why we stopped filming there because I was struggling trying to show it & Stacie filming it! 😊
Good meeting you guys up at Hearthside at the Newmar Event! Quick question. What PSI do you run on the tires? Based on our 4 corner weights, the chart tells us between 95-100 depending on tank levels all the way around on our New Aire, but every time we pick up the unit from NIRVC, they set it to 120 which is the max. What do you guys run?
It was great meeting you as well, based on our weight we run 110 on all our tires!
Suggest you clean the windshield before take off, and again before you put the Magna shades on.....

When you need fuel do you fill it up where the semis fill up or can you just use the pump where cars and pickup trucks pump diesel?
We almost always go through truck stops with the trucks.
Do you level the coach before bringing out the slides?
We do if we are not sure if we can get level. If we know we can get level then we put out the slides first.
Even as part timers, we don't bring everything out like we used to. And that's probably because we don't stay long enough at one place. We're hoping to get back to State Park/COE style parks that might entice us to hang out outside more and stay a little longer.
That makes a lots of sense Betty! I kind of miss that! 🫤
What do you use for your hard copy of an rv travel map?
Hey, Tom, do you not use a water pressure regulator when hooking up your water? Maybe you did and I missed it. It looks like you had just a filter.
Yes I do, it was on that part with the red knob. It is one I got that always regulates to 55 psi.

What are you using to release the pressure before the filter? Usually i just use both hands as one is covering the line so i dont get sprayed
It is a little release button that is part of my big red knob that makes it easy to screw onto the water pedestal.
My RV has a toggle switch for the water. One way the water goes through the lines and the other way goes to the fresh water tank. I turn off the spigot then flip the toggle switch to fill the water tank. That releases the pressure. Hope yours has the toggle switch.
Thanks, guys. we are new, newmar owners, and we have been told to pull in and put out our slides at ride height. We noticed you did it with your landing gear down and not at ride height. We are just wondering what your reasoning is. We had a 5th wheel for many years and would always be level before deploying the slides but Newmar told us we definitely need to put them out at ride height because that is where they manufactured the slides at. Thank you!
We have heard both ways at the factory and it seems to work better for us by leveling first. Then if I can’t get level I can move the coach without having to bring up the jacks first. When I know it will level no problem, then I usually will put the slides out first & then the jacks.

It's an off-brand that we bought at a rally several years ago. It's okay. We will buy a better one next time.
On my RV the cabinet door would have ripped my slide off

So, I watched to the very end to see how you put the outside magnet shades back up and…you didn’t. 😢
We actually didn’t put them up because we were facing south but when we do we both put up the big shade & then I put up the rest of the shades while Stacie puts on the windshield washer shades! 😊

You absolutely should have one because the one in the coach is good for one surge then you will have to take your coach in and get it replaced & that’s not cheap! The one in the coach is a great backup but I wouldn’t use it as the primary protection!
