@@mflowtownmost people buy 4Runners for insane reliability. Knowing they will most likely get above 300k miles easy. A new engine is gonna take some time for people to believe in it.
I agree, Toyota doesn’t make many mistakes, but they certainly did by not offering their amazing beloved 6 cylinder. If you want to see how the American buyers will respond to the 4 cylinder fine- go with it- but don’t drop the 6 cylinder- WTF Toyota? 😂
I have a 2004 4Runner Sport with the 4.7-liter V-8. It's still in great shape, but I would like to enventually get it restored. I would be willing to spend $40K on it for a quality restoration - but I can't find any place that is willing to do the job.
Only the 2nd gen basically took a dump with that 3.0L. Otherwise, good looking and performing truck. The 3rd gen was plagued with endless valve cover leaks but ran alot of miles. 4th gen wasn't as good looking, but made up for it with power and better engines. 5th gen is the most popular for many reasons. The new one probably won't get as much hype but has potential.
V8 was sick in my neighbors Lexus gx just maitnence intervals vs the v6 if ur not towing the v6 is fine the v8 is good if you had a camper. Goood luck seeing 100k out of a 4 banger towing
I love Toyotas! I’ve been driving them for 40+ years! This new 4Runner is nice. Just going to wait and see if they will eventually offer a v6 engine. Then i will get one!
They won't. Toyota, just like every other brand, is receiving tons of subsidies for getting rid of V6 and going hybrid/EV...yet price points keep going up and dealers mark up even more. The car market is a total mess. If Trump guts some of the cogs out the bureaucratic machine making this happen in the US then maybe we'll get V6 back...eventually
I’m waiting for this to come out I was hoping to get the TRD PRO before the winter since I drive a mustang convetible right now but I guess I’ll have to get something cheap for the winter to get me through til I can get the new 4runner
It's not just the price. They are now building unreliable crap. If you only want a vehicle that's going to last 100,000 miles and have 60k to piss away, Toyota has a 4 runner for you!
Omg, my o7 honda hybrid was 5k just for battery. And the way things are going I am sure they will only get cheaper.... yeah right! They are doing what phone companies do. They succeed when you buy parts. Not drive for 20 years problem free!
They're claiming its parts shortages. I'm wondering if it's not tryin to solve some issues with the current Tacoma. Maybe that's why there's a parts shortage. I really like the looks of the new Tacoma and this 4Runner but I think I'll hold on to my 16 Tacoma for another year or two.
@garettw1678 i dont understand what model isn’t pooping on the competition other than the tundra? Granted its sales are up. Plus the tacoma is the best small pickup in US for 22 consecutive years i dont see this yr being any different? Who hurt you lol

For anyone talking about the 4 cylinder please stop ✋🛑. First of all it puts out 326hp and 465 lb-ft torque, the V6 puts out 270hp and 278 lb-ft torque 🤡. If you really want to talk about the 4Runner engine that got away from us all we can then talk about the 4.7 L V8 that easily sees 500k miles with mild maintenance in the limited and SR5 V8 models from 2003 to 2008 then you might have a point. Also that V8 makes 260hp and the torque on that is 306 lb-ft. Making that little 4 cylinder more powerful than an engine twice its size 🫳🎤 Kindest Regards 🤫
You've clearly never owned a 4 cylinder, either they replaced a bunch of metal parts with plastic to make the car lighter or they greatly reduced the towing capacity
Something tells me that Toyota doesn’t care which engine to put, I believe these are new rules of the game for all manufacturers from government with CO2 emission control and etc.
love the color, love the vehicle, dont love the price
I’m a huge 4Runner fan boy. Love it!!!!
Just need $60k
