  • A major incident has been declared amid widespread flooding in the Midlands while the south faces another deluge of rain.
Storm Henk has brought deadly flooding and fierce 94mph winds to parts of the nation this week - and has left the ground saturated and more prone to flooding, according to forecasters.

Ever wondered why these ancient features either side of our rivers are called " Flood Plains " ? Why places such as the Isle of Ely and Isle of Axholme exist in the heart of East Anglia ?

I use to travel to Birmingham, half way there by the side of the motorway four or five fields were completely covered in water really high, twenty years later ever field was covered with houses, I thought how could that be allowed to happen!!!

I used to work on these building sites when I was younger as a labourer.... And you should see how they build on this flooded bog land. The pipework for drainage they fitted aswell was massive. You could probably drive a car through some of them pipes 😂

Can’t get rid of it in winter or store enough for summer, guess I should blame climate change for the state of infrastructures.

When i was a kid the council used to empty the gullys on a 13 week rota, us kids followed the 'drain man' about watching him suck up piles of leaves and rubbish. They would also dredge rivers and streams and cut back foliage once or twice a year, they also used to plant trees that drink many many gallons of water a day, but chopped them down preferring ulez and other spy cameras instead. Farmers fields were smaller, with trees and hedgerows marking the edges of the smaller fields, but they went long ago. Open spaces, with all those trees and scrubland became out of town shopping 'experiences'! Finally they never build next to rivers or on flood plains... how times have changed!

Well that’s what happens when you build on flood plains or below sea level or on sandbars that’s been drenched for land and build on like Gt Yarmouth.

Are the water companies pumping more sewerage into the flooded water to boost profits , the poor home and business people having to go through this , let alone whether they have insurance or not .

They certainly are. They wouldn't miss an opportunity like this. They even have the decency to tell us on their websites.

Imagine anyone blaming the weather for this. This is exactly what has been expected and or warned about for decades. Our leaders insist on bringing millions here, more housing and yep, more of this. Absolute idiocy and why? They all live in a bubble, an elitist, power hungry bubble.
