This is one of the things my grandma taught me how to make when I was a teenager, but I couldn't remember how to do it because it had been so many years! I'm absolutely making one of these for each of my adult daughters this year. Thank you!!!!

I made trees similar to that last year, and instead of using a cone, I stuffed it and closed off the bottom. I bought sparkle paper from Hobby Lobby. I downloaded a star template and cut out two for each star. Glue them together with a toothpick in between. Use that to stick in the top of your tree.

This is a really fun project. I am using an ancient skein of dark green yarn that was in my stash (like literally probably from the 80s, my mother got it at the senior center in a bag of yarn that was donated). I agree with others - stick with it until you get to the row of 18 stitches, it gets much easier then. I am planning to put a cardboard cone inside it so that I can just take the cardboard out and store it flat after the season.

Years ago I made your Christmas tree hat out of the green premier puzzle yarn. I made it for my husband, installed rice lights on the inside poking out and decorated it with Christmas picks from the dollar store like gifts, stars & mini ornaments.... Whatever little doodads I could find. I also crochet a gold star for the top. Super bright and colorful. If an ugly sweater could be a hat, that was it! He wore it every year to the annual Christmas event where they volunteer time to an elementary school downtown Detroit. Most of the kids less fortunate, victims of domestic abuse, emotional issues, etc.... They absolutely loved that hat!!! It made them SO HAPPY! My husband, other co-workers would spend the whole day doing Christmas crafts with the children. They ALWAYS wanted to sit next to him " The guy with the hat". lol

Awesome pattern. This yarn is perfect for the tree. These would make great gifts. You could find a candy jar or one to put pre measured dry cookie or brownie ingredients in, or hair ties etc for a kid in and top the jar with this tree to give as gifts. Candle jar cover, homemade hand scrubs, soaps, I can think of so many wonderful ways to use this.

Crystal, very cute tree. If I can make a suggestion? If you still want to put lights on it maybe tuck the entire string of lights inside the tree and pull the lights through the fabric from the inside out maybe using a small hook or whatever. May give you that look you were originally hoping for. Just a suggestion 🤷🏻‍♀️. It's very nice either way. ❤

Thank you so much for this tutorial!! This helps us who are learning! Especially when we see you struggling with the fiddly parts. That let's me know I'm doing it right and the struggling is real. I'm going to make one for my daughters. I love your videos ❤ Thanks again!😊

holy Smokes B.O.D, this looks like a little bit of a mastermind piece of work. How do you remember all these different stitches you teach us? hahaha, this looks like a project I might throw my crochet hook across the room. I am working on my patience =) I am going to make this... Thanks for always challenging all of us no matter what degree of a crocheter we are.

My grandma made these for all her kids, so they were (are, still have some!) a staple in my house at christmas growing up. Last year, she sent me some, one half finished, because her arthritis prevents her from doing it anymore, and said she KNEW I could reverse engineer it and finish it, make some more....so THANK YOU FOR THIS, I haven't had a chance to sit with it yet to figure it out. ❤🎉
