I bought the Omega GMT Worldtimer and, honestly, the more I wear the watch, the more I like it. The details in the dial are at a whole different level. Omega has won me over with this watch. When I first saw it in my local Omega boutique, I thought the watch was going to be closer to $15k, and that is only because it is an Omega. If an identical watch was made by one of those more popular high horology brands, this could easily go for far more. We’ll done Omega.

  • @Andrew-nn4ml
    @Andrew-nn4ml 2 года назад +5

Having been lucky to acquire my "luxury" timepieces long before this madness began, I see brands like FC/Nomos etc., becoming more and more relevant. The FC Perpetual Calendar / Tourbillon, their Flyback Chronograph, and the spectacular Worldtimer are offering superb watches with previously unobtainable complications at a price where most can enjoy.
I saw the FC Worldtimer on someones wrist from afar, and was convinced I was seeing a Patek. Owner was thrilled I asked, let me have a look at it, and I was thoroughly impressed, beautiful finishing, great looking on the wrist, beautiful caseback and movement design, loved it. Clearly not directly comparing them, Patek up close is like looking at painting from one of the Masters lol.
My opinion only, but as Patek, AP, Rolex, etc., become more and more unobtainable, these brands are going to become more desirable. I wonder if in a couple of years, we're going to see prices from these "affordable luxury" brands start to rise significantly, as more people who are interested in the hobby want to own watches with interesting complications and quality watchmaking without having to decide whether to forgo children and/or a home for the sake of a watch :-)!

I will pick the FC out of the three. All of them are good but I love the rotating city ring of the FC watch. The only downside is the date mini dial at the 6 o'clock position covers some of the city names. But overall, the pros outweigh the cons for the FC in my opinion.

Nomos made a "panda style" version of the World Timer where the outer ring of the dial was black and the center was cream coloured. Just gorgeous and cool.

The Nomos looks sharp. But, I do like that Constant world timer the best. I am a Constant fan, I must say.
Here's my take on watches, you can buy decent watches that show good taste without trying to impress others with branding such as Rolex and the like. My favorite daily wearer is the Seiko 5 snkl23. It looks classy, dressy and casual. The dial face is outstanding.
I like my Bulova Lunar Pilot without the date function. I am a member of a star gazing group which David Scott showed up at to do a lecture to our small group. I asked him about that watch. I wanted to get as close to Scott's Bulova as I could. His was not a date function watch and he wore it with a NATO band. That option cost me about 150 less and it looks sharp as my (car) driver watch.
My hiking watch is an inexpensive Bertucci with a NATO band. It has a quality and simplicity, even without a sapphire crystal, but looks good. Due to the low cost entry, if it does get a bit scratched, despite the hard plastic composite case, you are not breaking the bank.
Keep in mind the very inexpensive Datsun 1600 roadster is a desirable classic that was inexpensive in the 60s, that can now break the bank.
You can buy classy without breaking the bank. My next purchase is the metal, green Casioak, which I believe will become a desirable classic. I also want to try out a bronze watch. I am looking at the Alpina diver over Tudor. That is my take on watches.

The newish Omega World Timer looks even better in person. There is a steel bracelet version and a two tone with yellow gold. The best option is the woven fabric blue strap. The Frederique Constant World Timer also looks amazing in person. I love the OMEGA and would not mind owning it. Having said that, another watch that would compete nicely with these 3 is the MONTBLANC ORBIS TERRARUM. I own one, so I am biased, but what makes the Orbis stand out, in my opinion, is its ease of use, functionality and the beauty of its design. When traveling, all you have to do is push the pusher to change your reference city, it’s as easy as that! The showing of day/ night on the map is also a neat little complication achieved via 2 sapphire discs sandwiched together. As far as the other 2, I like them as well, and money always dictates what I acquire, but would definitely add the Omega if the planets lined up!

The Omega is just a piece of art.

FC does shine among the three while Nomos somehow offers a clean minimal modern approach to world time watches

The Omega is HARD to read! I mean really hard. Set GMT first, and then dial up/down the hr and coordinate the date. Stunning on the blue basket weave rubber strap with steel deployment clasp. Lack of minute index on chapter ring is regrettable. Set the watch time at 5 min increments to fix that. Very comfy, unique, and stunning for under $10K. I love it…so will you!

Hey Teddy. Great videos. Could you do a quick video about the Master Control “sector” dial from JLC. Can’t find any…anywhere and wondering if it was a limited run or just rare. IMO, the classiest watch under $10,000 out there.

Hi Teddy and everyone. Is anyone getting a reply about a giveaway or is this likely a scam? Thanks, George

World timers are ungodly hideous to me though I admire the craftsmanship. Who wants to look at a world map on their wrist? Different strokes I guess.

My experience with FC is a bad one. bought it on a KLM flighet back in the day because it looked like a Breguet. Just didn't work....at all.

Teddy wants to sell cheap stuff. He doesn't do the right thing. Buying retail is for the already wealthy not young guys watching RUclips.

@@lachlanbrown409 To be fair, I bought the FC over 20 years ago. They may produce better quality now for what I know. Having said that,, the list of malfunctions was breathtaking: minute hand broke in half, Lug pin disappeared within weeks, water damp entered the case, buckle pin broke. it was 350USD back th
en, but I was way better off with a 10 dollar timepiece sold at your local petrol station....
