I have a Gr 55 that I use with my band! I love it, but there are Latency issues with Piano etc. This unit intrigues me but I hope they fixed those issues. Does anyone know if the 800 tracks better? Thanks!

Unfortunately, you can no longer pass the guitar signal through the GK cable like you used to through the 13-pin cable. Now you have 2 cables on the guitar. This is a step backwards.
@@Rotor-Sims I used the AxonAX100 MKII until about 10 years ago. A very good synth and not as complicated as the Boss or Roland devices. Today, however, the rack design would bother me. I want everything on the board. The Fishman Tripleplay also has its pros and cons, but I think it is even faster than the Axon.

Nice to see they ditched the tragedy that is the 13pin Cable from the GK-3. I had 2 fail that Boss wouldn't replace as they were out of warranty - $100 bucks is a lot of money to charge for a low quality cable. Also - I can only speak from the GK-3 and GR55 but I found to get accurate tracking I had to play perfectly clean which was beyond my skill level and interest. Not easy to do these days but I would recommend "Try before you buy" on this especially for the price.

@@mrguitar5051 I’m a bassist so I DON’T NEED TO PLAY THROUGH A KEYBOARD! The GR-55 has more than enough patches for me to play through. I use it for Moog type and upright bass sounds. Let the guitar players do their thing and I do mine. The guitarist I play with from time to time uses his and run it thru an integra 7 and a motif XS rack and get some crazy whacky sounds out of it! Cool! That’s works for him but as a bassist NOT FOR ME! If you like it through the Fantom-08; Great! You run your gear; I run mine! And I’m happy with it! PEACE!😡👍🏾

It's certainly come a long way, I still have the GR1expanded bought it new in the early 90s, but its getting a bit slow on some tracking. The GM 800 sounds really impressive.
Very good alex ! To be honest i was expecting it to be a upgrade of GR-55 with many replicas of instruments like sax, trumpet, tbones, drums..but looks more like a mini SY1000. Since i already have the 1000 having complexity to explode my brain, will focus on the GR. However, this is a great chance to people who wants to integrate small size with many synth features
would love to see more Bass playing with this unit. One big concern is latency on the low end of E&A strings. Has latency been reduced in the new unit when playing bass?
@BOSSchanel . Are the independent string outputs 'pan-able' like with the guitar modeling sounds in the SY1000.? Or are the new tones in this machine independently 'pan-able' from each other? Very interested in an example video if this is the case and how it's accomplished via the computer editing program.
Missed opportunity Boss: you could have created a patch where you can layer bass on top of guitar, and have the bass only pick the lowest notes, similar to the OC-5, but use the GK technology to make it even crispier. I don't know why music companies are getting lazy with new releases of their latest gear these days..
Be interested to try one. I used Roland synths for years until they stopped producing good ones. Complained to Roland for years then went to a different company. I know Boss are part of Roland, but I hope they now listen to the people that use guitar synths. Love the new GK pickup, so hopefully this is a step in the right direction. No V-Guitar or Normal Guitar? That’s a pass for me. I love my SY-1000, GR-55, and SY-300. The GM-800 sounds great. Roland/Boss is the greatest company. I think that it was a mistake to have a guitar synthesizer without V-Guitar Modeling and Normal Guitar. Without any Guitar sounds! We almost had a modern GR-55! Shoot! Great performance as always!!
What engines does it use? Midi(sampled sounds), synth(oscillators) or amp modeller? Sy300 gets its sound from synth(oscillators) only. But i liked the midi or sampled sounds of gr55? So i am confused what are the sound engines that gm800 uses? Is it just upgrade to sy300 or it has midi engine too like gr55 does?

Now we need new GK-5 and two converter boxes (why isn't in one converter box, Boss?) if we want to use the GK-5 with older 13-pin units or use the older 13-pin with the new Serial GK systems. Shake that money maker Boss. One new GK-5 and both converters are gonna set you back around $700, almost the same cost as the GM-800. You're looking at close $1500 all in. Great to see Alex back at Boss; always good guitar synth videos. Maybe Boss will let him finish the several promised missing SY-1000 videos they didn't pay him to do? Guess not, the SY-1000 was the unwanted stepchild of the Boss Guitar Synth family. 😁

This thing is so cool I just wish they could somehow figure out how to do this without the need for a special pickup.....I mean all the other Boss Multieffects are digital and these are also digital sounds right. Can someone please explain why they can't do this?
boss sy-300, sy-1, sy-200 and even sy-1000 can take any guitar without a special pickup and do synth stuff with them, however you need a hex pickup system if you wanna do different stuff on each string, or guitar / bass modelling etc..
Boss Corporation hates Bass-Players! This video = 9 minutes of premium guitar and an insulting 30 seconds dedicated to bass - yet the Boss website claims that this product is "also" for Bass-Players? Boss Corporation will always do the *bare-minimum* in regards to ANYTHING bass-related. It's not like the 1970s any more when companies like Boss could consistently treat Bass-Players as an afterthought - the music & market have clearly moved on now. This is why in 2023, MOST Bass-Players stick to companies like: Line 6, Neural DSP, Axe FX, Two Notes, Kemper and Eventide when it comes to professional DIGITAL signal processing. These aforementioned companies have the respect/intelligence to make BASS-SPECIFIC video content when applicable/relevant to a new product.

I dunno. I see a more fingerstyle method of playing the demos by Alex, but I’m not what’s different from the GR 55 other than some nice little tweaks. Are the DACs higher quality? Definitely more of an electro dance demo than the previous GR rock stuff. I dunno.
Seems like Alex is playing relatively slow in this demo. Is there a fast part ? Did I miss it ? I'd like to see how fast it tracks single note playing, and what the latency is like.

To me, cheesiness is depicted by lack of the sounds being realistic. No one wants one of these if it has a sound library that sounds 10-20 years old.

Boss decided to redefine what a cool gear demo is with its latest product demos. Loving them.

The parts are panable which is easily done in the editor.
Can the GK5 be installed inside the guitar or worn on the strap?

Fishman Triple Play still has my vote. Wireless and you can import endless 3rd party sounds.

There is no guitar modeling in this unit and all the sounds he used are factory presets.

Still uses a GK-5 hex pickup but the cable is a standard TRS not a 13-pin one.
