Was worried that this one was going to be too cheesy, but based on this demo it seems like it's just the right amount of cheese. Really impressed with how well it seems to handle tapping and slides

Nice to see they ditched the tragedy that is the 13pin Cable from the GK-3. I had 2 fail that Boss wouldn't replace as they were out of warranty - $100 bucks is a lot of money to charge for a low quality cable. Also - I can only speak from the GK-3 and GR55 but I found to get accurate tracking I had to play perfectly clean which was beyond my skill level and interest. Not easy to do these days but I would recommend "Try before you buy" on this especially for the price.

Thankfully I don't need or want this. - just kidding! Shut up and take my money!
They should have put this in the SY-1000. Now we need new GK-5 and two converter boxes (why isn't in one converter box, Boss?) if we want to use the GK-5 with older 13-pin units or use the older 13-pin with the new Serial GK systems.
Shake that money maker Boss. One new GK-5 and both converters are gonna set you back around $700, almost the same cost as the GM-800. You're looking at close $1500 all in.
Great to see Alex back at Boss; always good guitar synth videos.
Maybe Boss will let him finish the several promised missing SY-1000 videos they didn't pay him to do? Guess not, the SY-1000 was the unwanted stepchild of the Boss Guitar Synth family.

    Boss Corporation hates Bass-Players!
This video = 9 minutes of premium guitar and an insulting 30 seconds dedicated to bass - yet the Boss website claims that this product is "also" for Bass-Players?
Boss Corporation will always do the *bare-minimum* in regards to ANYTHING bass-related.
It's not like the 1970s any more when companies like Boss could consistently treat Bass-Players as an afterthought - the music & market have clearly moved on now.
This is why in 2023, MOST Bass-Players stick to companies like: Line 6, Neural DSP, Axe FX, Two Notes, Kemper and Eventide when it comes to professional DIGITAL signal processing.
These aforementioned companies have the respect/intelligence to make BASS-SPECIFIC video content when applicable/relevant to a new product.

Everything you mentioned is a GUITAR product with the word "bass" added to the description (and probably made with a perfunctory Ampeg SVT impulse response as always!).
You said Boss makes - "Dedicated multi-fx units"? ...For Bass?.. When and where?
Maybe you're talking about 10 - 20 years ago perhaps?

Does it still use a 13 pin midi cable?

Still uses a GK-5 hex pickup but the cable is a standard TRS not a 13-pin one.

I dunno. I see a more fingerstyle method of playing the demos by Alex, but I’m not what’s different from the GR 55 other than some nice little tweaks. Are the DACs higher quality? Definitely more of an electro dance demo than the previous GR rock stuff. I dunno.

Seems like Alex is playing relatively slow in this demo.
Is there a fast part ? Did I miss it ?
I'd like to see how fast it tracks single note playing, and what the latency is like.
