      if you can sweep left to right on your Sim's cab section or change speaker within the same cab then you might be able to find the spot where the blobs are from when they modeled the original cabs.

      Glue is inexpensive. Just put some on your screen and aim the mics right at it.

    Interesting. I had no idea the blobs affected tone. I just always gravitated towards putting the mic on the inside part of the speaker on my Mesa 4x12. Sounded better to my ear. Now I understand why. Thanks Nolly!

    This is why he is famous for the most heareable and punchy distorted bassist that lives Because this guy knows his Sh*t and is is the reason periphery are as good as they are. Nolly knows his stuff and i'm not surprised a lot of bands seek him out to mix there albums.

    Amazing discovery! I will have to do my own testing now. Recently, I've been miking up the outer edge of the cone of a V30 in my Zilla 2x12 Something about the outer cone of a V30 has this great spongy and punchy sort of tone especially when palm muting, I like it! Great video

    Finally, there is an engineer saying that high gain tones are better for hearing sonic differences in speakers than clean tones! The more saturated frequency spectrum speaks for itself.

    Mind blown! Boooooom! So cool! I've always wondered about another aspect as well. How much of the magnetic field coming off the speaker coil interacts with the microphone's coil. Want to experiment with that perhaps? LOL

    Oddly, I never considered the wire points. However I DO know that speakers sounds different as you mic the circumference. I generally mic closer to the outer edge, & listen to the entire circumference of each speaker in the cab. If you WATCH a cranked guitar speaker, youll actually see different areas of it move differently.

    2 questions/thoughts from me..... I have a Marshall cab here with a quad of G12/50M and I notice they don't have the blobs. I wonder what the different construction type is and why. I find them quite warm/dark compared to my V30s and others, but they're old and in who knows what state of efficiency (they sound wicked though!) And 2) I wonder what potential there is for DIY blobbing!? An actual moon gel on the cone - what would that do? And has Nolly already tried it?

      This would be interesting to know. LOVE your Zilla 2X12 cab IR that was with your GGD Kemper Pack - definitely doesn't have that harsh top end and has become my favourite IR by far!

    Sheffield 1200s (1991 5150 4x12 stock cab) don't have this feature, maybe adding to the top end bite that they're known to possess.

    How about micing edge of speaker? Ty tabor used to favor that over center in early Kings x recordings. Would be interested in your view as Sonics of those albums pretty unique
