Moving BIG AQUARIUMS With These | DID IT WORK?

- I had to move two very large fish tanks around in my house, but they were too heavy to move without completely emptying the tanks. Unless... I found some mini dollies that might do the trick, but will they hold up to the nearly 1800lb tank/stand setups I would be moving as once piece? Watch as we attempt to move these aquariums without destroying the tanks or my house.
Cichlid Charmer is dedicated to sharing the joy of keeping African cichlids and American cichlids and sharing information about them. Much of my content is not cichlid fish specific, however. It also pertains to all tropical fish aquariums. I will share what I have learned about cichlids and other fish, and everyone is welcomed to comment with their own experiences and information about fish and aquarium practices in general.

What do you think of these little movers for my big tanks? Have you had any experiences moving your own tanks within your home or to a new home?
A very daunting task moving big tanks , glad it all went well, even without scratching the floors. Good job mate
Yeah Stefanos, I was worried about scratches too, even from just sliding the stands out from the wall, but nothing seems to have been scratched. I’m glad it’s over!!
Watching u pulling the stand with the tank on it is actually funny 😅😅😅 but happy u got it done ✅
It does look kinda goofy!
Very awesome you got some help from family, neighbor and of course Stella, Molly and Higgins, I can only imagine how stressful that must have been yikes. I was lucky I had 2-3 beefy sons help move my bigger tanks (125gal, 2-65 and 2-55) by a hand truck and muscle, now days it's me and myself with a hand truck and blankies. I bet the next day you were hurting, that looked brutal, OK because I'm a nerd movie buff "The man with two brains" got ta love Steve Martin. Thank you for this info next tank move I'll try those dolly moving things and gasp!
Haha thank you, Polly! Actually my muscles weren’t sore, but my skin on my arms was! I am so happy someone got the reference and it was you! That one line has stuck in my mind for decades, and it’s the only line from the movie I remember lol
A good idea and I’m happy it worked out! Hope the window doesn’t give algae but I know you got it covered! Stay happy and healthy my friend!😊❤️
Thanks! Right about the algae. The back panel is blacked out, so it shouldn’t be too bad.
I had anxiety the entire video lol. Great job that looked (relatively) painless!
lol thanks - I felt it too 😬
Really great work, buddy.
You made it look a lot easier than it actually is ha ha
Thanks man - it’s good to hear from you, Steve!
Thanks.. that was a great movie, and all of me was a great one too.
I forgot about that one!
I’ll have to try that 😊
Love your content and tanks. Keep up the good work.😊
Thank you, Alex!
Great! You did it.But the 180 blocking the window is a bummer. Idea 💡, you could move it to either side wall..but you'd need to put at least 1 4x4 from below to support the floor. I know it's in front of the window because the floor joints go that way.
You’re exactly right. I thought of adding support along the other outside wall, but I think to be completely sure doing that you’d want it done professionally with proper footings. I don’t know, I mean I might try that someday.
Thanks!
Wow thank you!!
Biggest move I have done is a 6ft. Out of someones garrage and into a van, then out and into my house. Stand was as heavy as the tank 💪I had 4 suction holders. Some water and fish remained in the tank for the 3hr road trip. Could not catch 50 bristlenose so I was extreeeeemly worried. 90% survival. Teeny tiny babies mostly didnt make it.
Just myself a 55+ girly and my 50+ hubby.
It is NOT in its final position 🤦♀️
When renovations are done its another carry job out the house, over lawn up and down stairs and through doorways. I have a year to come up with a plan and extra people to help then. I found a Peacock with a busted face at a fish store, he made me laugh and so began my psyco inmate journey a month ago. One has already escaped 😔
Enjoy your content 🙂
Oh that sounds like an adventure for sure. A stressful one but at least you are a team working on the moves. Welcome to this family of Nut Jobs - both the fish and us 😜
Nice and easy work.. but keep a eye on alage bloom since u have it at window
That would definitely be a problem, but the back panel is black, so very little light gets in from the window.
I am upgrading from a 140g to a 180g
I have set up a 65g as a stand by tank
This worked very well when I upgraded my American cichlids to a 120g 👍
This way I am not in a rush 🤔
Excellent, well-thought out plan!
No scratches on those beautiful brown wooden floors? This is a really nice way of moving it to different rooms. I will keep that in mind when my lady sends me to the guest bedroom with my tanks
lol! Yeah no scratches but these are vinyl planks
As usual great content, got to ask about the stands. Custom built? Where did you get?
They were locally built using the frame plans from Joey King of DIY. Thank you!
Steve Martin, the man with 2 brains
Excellent work. 1,000 bonus points are going straight into your account 😂
exciting video, question where do you buy your tubes from
Thanks, Gregory! Do you mean the decor pipes in Alcatraz? Those were from Petco, but they don’t make them anymore.
Did you build your stand? Really nice looking stand.
They were locally built using the frame plans from Joey King of DIY. I am building the next one. Thank you!
Those are interesting I moved my 75 gallon with sliders but I know sliders will not work with something that size. I was curious how you planned on getting the movers under the tank.
Yeah it worked out great. I was wondering the same thing, and then I thought of using a pole or beam through the stand itself. There was no backing on the stand, so right through the door to the other side it went. Really easy.
Did you keep the tank on rollers while outfitting it with committees or your sumpnsystem? It would seem to be easier to be able to move it off the wall as you work in route everything and then when you’re done slip it back into place and be finished. I would imagine anything at 2:40 up is really difficult to slide on the flooring, even with help.
No I didn’t. It was surprisingly easy to move back. So was my 435 glass tank!
Are those tanks acrylic? A move like that may be too hard on glass tanks.
They are acrylic, yes.
What canister is that?
The Fluval Fx6
Do you still have the synodontis catfish from African tank 😊
I do not. One was eaten and the other one got stuck in the filter. The strainer fell off the end of the pipe and I didn’t know it
