Sir, I visited Nagaland when Hornbill culture festival was going on in 2018. In this festival from whole Nagaland all tribes will come n show their cultural diversity. It was really nice to see their craft n rich culture. These people are peace loving. Their language is also very soft, very less loud words. They really deserve peace ✌️. I hope this matter will get settled in peaceful manner. You have captured the whole Nagaland crisis in very good way. Keep it up n keep doing. We are ready to listen to you for an hour also. Nagaland is still a state where parallel govt runs by naga groups. If such groups are collecting money for development why is Nagaland still so backward in many human development index as pointed by R N Ravi.

The legendary footballer and doctor, Dr. Talimeren Ao was the first captain of Indian Football team, and represented India in the 1948 Summer Olympics. He was from Nagaland. Respect and salute this legend 🙏

The episode nonetheless lives up to the intended de-clutter topic i.e., Nagaland Crisis, seemingly not pulling the entire Naga historical political wagon, hard enough. The Editor, out of the sheer entangled complexities, cherry picks, skips crucial chronology in his episode of the Naga Political issue by heavily banking his baseline argument on a retired IAS officer, Khekiye K. Sema’s opinion piece over Possible fall out after settlement based on framework agreement and remain oblivious to other hundreds of articles, journals written by Nagas from Nagaland (if that his his cherry picked intention) about the genesis of the Naga People’s struggle of Independence. Shekhar Gupta, a respectable seasoned journalist of India, skips three key elements to his observation. First, he skips the germination of Naga Political ambition to become a sovereign nation state from the very point in history of WW1, when the Naga Labour Crops from Northeast frontier, well before the formation of arbitrary Northeast states primarily, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur, was followed by the Naga Club Memo to Simon Commission 1929, a historical landmark. Secondly Naga People’s declaration of Independence Day on August 14, 1947 as a free Nation. And thirdly, the Naga People’s ambition of her right to self-determination and self-govern saw the first Naga people’s Plebiscite of 16 May 1951 where 99.9% of the Nagas wanted independence from India. Any attempt to reach the crux of the complex Naga political struggle without taking into consideration these crucial 3 historic events, would only suggest oversimplification, putting the card before the horse. ThePrint Editor in all his good intention, unfortunately showed lack of research which is unlike him. Shekhar Gupta with his wealth of knowledge about the Northeast frontier, as it was called, is arguably someone who knows the political landscape of Northeast, especially the Naga complex politics, from his years of journalistic experience, which certainly isn’t impossible to de-clutter for a man of his stature. Therefore whether he speaks carelessly or accurately, whether biased or unbiased, his words commands journalistic truth and moves opinions. Therefore, Shekhar Gupta’s approach on this episode in viewing the Naga Political struggle only from the prism of “Muivah’s ambitions”, followed by “Tangkhul cadres in NSCN IM”, followed by “Ukhrul” as the powerhouse of NSCN IM, and the community he speaks of at length in relation with “Nagaland political history”, and not “Naga Political history” without even a hint about other Naga tribes of Manipur, except quoting Tamenglong in footnote, clearly is a deliberate hamartia to NAGA POLITCIAL HISTORY! The Editor’s de-cluttering of the vexed Naga Political issue in conjunction with the Framework Agreement, fails to talk about how and why Nagaland State was created in the first place. What 16 points agreement entailed for the Nagas in the larger political brinkmanship, ignoring scores of details of the 1989 fallout and massacre of NSCN IM by NSCN K. It would only have balanced his argument of 1975, Shillong Accord. Conveniently ignoring the decisive 1997 ceasefire agreement development between the Centre and NSCN IM, the fine details of the August 3, 2015 Framework Agreement and as to why the Governor cum interlocutor R N Ravi doctored the original Framwork Agreement signed in the presence of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and PM Narendra Modi, how Mr Gupta deliberately ignored the Lt. Isak Chishi Swu, Chairman of NSCN IM from the Sumi tribe of Nagaland, and how the mediators became the negotiators and so forth. But those crucial points were all skipped peevishly in this Cut The Clutter episode 555 and unlike Shakher Gupta, unfashionably picked on one Naga community as the sole villain out of his 29 odd minutes commentary, reducing Naga Political struggle of over 74 years into Nagaland state Political issue. When he precisely knows that, that isn’t exactly the underlying issue.
Agreed that Shekhar Gupta has skipped some of the information as described by you. I would still not be dismissive of this article as he has lent representation to the struggle of Naga communities. He has been in the North-East but one can easily discern that it takes few days to a week to accumulate such information even it were his team helping out with this. Also some of points will only bring Negative attention. And forgive me I know as a Proud NE brother to another you could care less but this case is as sensitive as it gets. As sad as the death of Sushant Singh Rajput was the mainstream media has dedicated hours repeating the same facts over and over with some channels being blind to major developments in the North-East regions. But I do appreciate you taking the time to point out the shortcomings of the report and shedding the much needed attention to the missed information.

The author is unbiased and completely blunt on writing the situation as it is and doesn't try to justify any actions of either sides rather just portrays the information. Pretty much on point with almost everything that has been articulated in this video. There is a HUGE difference between Nagas of Nagaland and Nagas of Manipur. A greater "Nagalim" is never going to happen because other states are not going to give up their territorial land. The Nagas of Nagaland accepted the Indian constitution in 63 followed by a few underground groups in 75 (Shillong Accord). The IM group is the only one who opposed this decision and called us "traitors" for wanting peace and security in the land. I don't ever want to see the day where a "Socialist" system runs the affairs of Naga people because there are plenty of examples of Communist/Socialist led countries where things have gone to hell and you add the Naga tribes into this ideology and it's going to create chaos. The IM group basically talks on behalf of Thangkul tribe and I'm just stating the facts and the Naga Hoho does not represent the tribes of the state of NAGALAND. It's a complicated situation but we uncomplicate it to come to a decision that is beneficial to all, if extortion and militant activities stop then Nagaland will start to prosper but we the people also need to elect responsible leaders who will take a strong stand against these anti social activities taking place. And there needs to be a lot of reforms on the laws because times have changed so we need to invest money in the sectors that we know the Nagas of Nagaland are exceptional at and we'll real the benefits later on in the future. For my Naga brothers and sisters, do not blindly follow the sentiments of some groups because they say "freedom" for they have their own agendas.
What exactly are Nagas gonna do with this new independent country? If its formed, they will be surrounded by enemy states of india and myanmar, with china more than eager to crush their throats.

You are exactly saying how SC Jamir betrayed the Nagas by carving the state of Nagaland for few, and discriminating the rest. So less is the merit of such politics that Nagaland have to reserve all state jobs only for domicile with the fear of competition with others. Congratulations
@@maxipamei6227 I know the labels put on by people like you, we'll be called "anti naga" or "traitor" for standing up for the people of NAGALAND. Just because I say that I am against the NSCN doesn't mean I support everything the Naga Govt does, I believe we need a strong leader to govern the state. That being said I don't want anyone from IM at the helm of government I would rather be able to vote and choose who represents Nagaland. I know Manipur has its own problems when it comes to metieis and Nagas but that's the issue of Manipur not Nagaland. All these parts of Manipur could have been a part of Nagaland if people would have just stopped fighting and choose peace but I know the situation then was different and it maybe easy for me to say now but the people of Nagaland certainly went against everything and made a Nagaland despite those obstacles. Let the Nagas of Nagaland decide for themselves as well instead of groups with agendas. And also the Nagas of NAGALAND have done so much more to put Nagas on the map than any other state I believe, not throwing shade on any other tribe but in my humble opinion the only people who want this move are the ones outside Nagaland. We have our own problems in Nagaland but things will get better soon with the right people at the helm.

Superp analysis of the Naga imbroglio by Shekherji. We Nagas, in majority, have accepted the reality that there can be no independence, and unification of contiguous Naga areas. We just hope that the Government of India is utmost sincere and ever trying to solve this prolong struggle and bring it to an honourable conclusion and relieve us from this nightmare that we have lived for the past seven decades.

Our history of fighting for sovereignty is long, nasty and bloody. We the Nagas of Nagaland have seen it all. Today we hope and pray for peace and tranquility for our land. It's time for us to be pragmatic and realistic. No one knows anything about the beautifully and tightly wrapped framework agreement, signed by GOI and NSCN IM. Therefor, let's get over it and settle with what is given to us. It's time for the Nagas of Nagaland to give a new direction to the movement. Let's not live in an utopian world. My last wish is take the deal even if it is within the parameters of the Indian constitution, after all India is not a bad country. If given a choice I will choose democracy over any other system of Government.

This old man talks about only Nscn-im and against Nacn(isack & Muivah). But he didn't even mentioned HOW and WHY Isack, Muivah and Khaplang form the Nscn. He only talks against the Nscn and Muivah-Tankhul.
well there have been mistakes made by both sides, its upon the people there to realize this. If we keep this attitude of finding each others mistakes, we will get nowhere. Its high time people in nagaland realize that peace and prosperity lies only with India.
Tangkhuls from different villages speak in Standard Tangkhul (not Meiteilon). Meiteilon is the standard language of Manipur state. There is a lot of misinformation, biased and anti-NSCN (IM) in this episode.
Tankhuls speak meiteilon to communicate with other minor tribes in the hills as that is the common language in their state. I was also confused but it is true. No doubt they speak tankhul language with themselves.

I am from Bangalore i have visited Kohima in Nagaland and the naga people are very kind and hard-working. I don't think most of them want independence from India but they need more attentiom from central govt. Nagaland is in very bad condition compared to other northeast states.
I was born in UP, raised in Rajasthan, studied in Karnataka and Delhi, settled in Mumbai. My best friend is from Kalimpong, my roommate was from Manipur. Its a matter of "Who actually wants to consider themselves Indian vs Not wants to consider themselves Indian". Better India keep & invest fund in letter ones. Like Tamil Nadu,Jammu, Ladakh, kerala, Sikkim, Meghalaya etc. India consist of emotionally connected States would be more stable and developed. Rest should be leave & be friendly neighbors.
The ugly truth is that India being a democratic country failed to understand the meaning of democracy even though the Nagas declared her independence on 14th August 1947 one day ahead of India's independence and India did not paid any heat to plebiscite of 1951 where 99.9% voted for a separate country and sent over 1 lakhs arm forces between 1950 and 1960 to burnt down over 1000 villages, killing 1000s of Civilians even though India is very much against the Chinese occupation of Tibet and xinjiang. And the NSCN with Socialist principles forgot the true meaning of socialism where the system of production are owned by the state but the wealth are distributed equally among the citizens, instead of serving the public most of the high ranking officers started to accumulate wealth for themselves which automatically lead the public to stop supporting them. I think our Naga political issue is very complex and complicated.
Very well outlined. This is a complex issue with a lot of historical baggage. Sad that personal ambitions of an individual scuttled previous peace deals and prolonged the misery of Naga people. Also striking to me was the use of targeted assassinations by Mr. Muivah to maintain his dominance; something that Prahhakaran's LTTE was adept at. All said, Nagas are honorable people and deserve a decent life free of violence and uncertainty.

SG ...You have not done research well.There are more than 2000 cadres from POUMAI Tribe alone in NSCN & NNPG. And T.Muivah is actually a Poumai Community who had been adopted by one Tangkhul family in his childhood days according to his original Poumai village - Ngari or Reimai in Senapati District. Even the now Hebron camp was discovered-located by one Poumai Brigridar. Even the first NSCN before break up Army Chief was a Poumai, Just ask from hard core or Present officer, So you see we dont blow our own trumpet....but all practicall m logistics are done by POUMAI....do your research more not just wishful thinking blahs...blah...
Hope GOI and naga people will be satisfied with the final settlement for prolonged militancy problem. Although , i have been critical of separate flag and Constitution even if it comes with in the indian Constitution .

@Rohit Thaosen I think the situation you have in your brain is cluttered and as I believe most of you have it cluttered to :) ! It's masked by traditional Bengal Govt-ish media. Hence it deserves a cut the clutter or sort of a myth Buster episode! The perspective you are looking it from is the North East, but this is way more different and older of a claim, there is no militant claim, we've been suppressed, language has been, human right violations and what not under the Bengal regime :)
1950s- Naga insurgency starts. 1960s- Nagaland created. Efforts for permanent solution derailed by one person. 1970s- Shillong Accord signed. Efforts for permanent solution again derailed by same person. 1980s- That same person emerges as undisputed Dictator of Nagas. 1990s- Ceasefire signed between Dictator & GOI. Negotiations start. 2000s- Negotiations inconclusive as Dictator play delay tactics. 2010s- Another Framework Agreement signed between Dictator & GOI. Negotiations start. 2020- Negotiations inconclusive as Dictator play delay tactics again.

Bertil Linter's book: "Travels Through Insurgent Burma" is instructive on the way the Kachins looked down upon Swu & Muivah. Politically, the rough formulation is that the IM is aligned with the BJP and the K with the Congress. And this goes back to SC Jamir's time and ouster as the CM. The NSCN (IM) is today run by Appam Muivah, who is worthy of your attention. He is T Muivah's nephew and heir apparent. The IM leaders, ensconced in Thailand, head a multi-country narcotics and gun-running racket. Narcotics is their mainstay, mainly heroin sourced from the Golden Triangle. All the prognostications over Nagalim etc are just to keep the Peace Accord moving - rather, maintaining the status quo so as to ensure a smooth passage through of their narcotics and guns. If the Government were to crack down ruthlessly on these two aspects - drugs and guns, then the rest will fall into place. its a wonderful place and the with the exception of the Semas, who are somewhat different in attitude, all tribes display a superior sense of direct democracy - everything is voted upon, by men and women equally, mostly on Sunday after Church.

Your view is echoed by many common people but no action is taken along these lines. The official approach of the govt is to keep talking about peace and turn a blind eye to the narcotics and arms trafficking by the ug.
In reality the peace process acts as a protective shield for some elements to run their illegal business, so the more is is prolonged the better for them
In the first place nagas never wanted to be a part of India, some places then were never covered by British India government. When nagas resisted Indian chose to use force, many nagas were killed and raped. Without the consent of nagas, we were divided into two nations and many states within India. What it started as tribal fighting for non interference and rights has emerged as mere extortionist group fighting for some sovereignty. Many were killed and tortured over decades, Indian government also has to take this responsibility for not genuinely trying to solve the naga problem. We obviously want more special provisions and autonomy even within the Indian union. Culturally and historically nagas were never Indian and Indian government has acknowledged this fact. I'm glad someone with significant influence is talking about NE brothers. The way NE and their issues are ignored by masses and mainstream media is dangerous for the unity of this land. NE brothers, it's a request to mutually respect the rest of India. The will for respect and peaceful coexistence should be mutual.
When you make an episode on such a complex matter you must use much more graphics. Show pictures of tribes, people, maps, location and most importantly charts. This same episode and same narration would have much more educational this way. Once you try this you will feel the difference. Who exactly are you referring to as "people of India " that don't accept the Nagas ... The people of Tamil Nadu ?? Or Assam ?? Or Punjab ?? Come on even in the so called "mainland India " there are 1000s of diverse cultures that all seem to get along fine despite all their differences ... Naga Movement was doomed from the start. And now it has reached a point that many Nagas are fed up with these extortionists and Gupta has perfectly concluded that muhiva will try everything to derail this peace process because this doesn't suit his political agenda.... If you believe Muhiva than then nothing can stop Nagaland from becoming the land of constant sorrow. And lastly lately and slowly nagas are joining the mainstream Indian society, best studious nagas try there best to become IAS, IPS if this continues there will be time that Nagas will be fully integrated. I am from TN and living in the US. I have never heard such a good explanation of Naga problem. Seems like there will be no solution because of so many competing tribes.
Tribes are funded to put against each other. If Indians do not do that. All tribes will join hands together for a free Naga nation with their own flag and constitution.
Common !I have met many nagas on social media. Belive me this nscn guys are not any freedom fighters especially after 1997 peace deal . Today their nscn I'm people roam everywhere in naga inhabited areas and extort people on gunpoint and loot their money. Their leader muiva has reportedly committed war crimes on kuki tribes in ,manipur . Muiva was also jailed in Thailand for few years. 2 major conclusion I can draw from Video: a. Problem of Naga is more because of in-fighting among themselves than fighting with "India" b. British have created much of the problems in India because of their concept of Frontier territory!! b. If British didn't came to India, Nagas region won't be in Indian territory as today. Nagas would be a separate country like Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, Laos. Leave apart about religion, Naga's culture, colour, food everything is very much distinct from the rest of Indian.

Most of North East India had never been part of India. It was the British that included the region into British India for the sake of convenient administration, and when they left India, they just left the region to be part of Independent India. If it wasn't for them Most of NE might not have been a part of India. @@Sam-hm5hm Well going by that logic several princely states were not part of modern nation state of India (a concept which is not more than 200-250 yrs old globally). Princely states like Jodhpur, Guna, Hyderabad, Asom, Tripura etc were united by Iron Man of India and included in the Indian Union. Remember, Sikkim was never part of the Indian Union in 1950, it became part in 1975. Given the diverse country India is, every region have a distinct culture. Indian constitution do have a provision of granting local autonomy to Tribal areas (which is not restricted to North East). British Missionaries made job of integration of North East very tough. They were not in Sikkim, not in Ladakh, not in other Tribal areas, hence not much problem in integrating those areas!!
@@apys9582 The princely states you mentioned were all more or less part of India historically or Culturally.. Most of the NE tribal areas were discovered by the British. So you can't draw comparision there. Those that still have some kind of insurgency problems in the NE are Meteis, Bodos or ULFAs who are not Christians, but mostly Hindus.
Nagaland is a part of India . It joined India on its own free will on Dec 1963. It does not want independence or freedom from India. It is rather surprising to ask this question.

Sir, you put the Tangkhul tribe in such bad light. This is unacceptable. Hundreds of our tribe hold respectable Indian Central government posts. What is the correlation with Tangkhul tribe and NSCN IM? Those cadres joined the outfit by their choice. Please issue a clarification between the two vis a vis, Tangkhul community and the Group. Nagaland was administered by the British as a separate entity which means Nagaland was not part of British India. Nagaland was kept as an "excluded area' by the British before India was given independence.

So when NSCN very conveniently claim its Naga's land and should be part of Nagaland, its cuz we are not even allowed to settle there. While, NSCN extorts transport into the valley. So, we the common ppl irrespective of which community we belong to are affected by their extortion n bullying n killing. So it doesn't matter to us if NSCN Nagas are mostly from Mabipur. Have been involved in active ckunter insurgency battle un heart is Nagaland in W9kha and Zunheboto as a young Army Officer from 1994 to 1996. Ah yes, my grandfather visited Assam back in 1921 prior to the war as emissary to her highness. I remember him recalling fond memories of the people who were savages but strangely very hospitable. The Nagas were feared and very rarely seen much less contacted. Now? I’ve had the pleasure of visiting Kohima for the Hornbill festival back in ‘08 and had an absolute bloody brilliant time. The people were warm and unbelievably friendly, drank their “single malt” lager made out of rice which was sweet, tangy and packed a punch. The roads were horrendous though the public didn’t seem to mind one bit which I found quite strange coming from activist haven of London. I was clueless about the militancy that is apparently rife in the colourful state. Sad really. The Naga people should stand against the blatant extortion imposed on them by the “Tangkhuls” who have become defacto rulers of the state.

1. It is very important that one should go into the history of the Nagas before 1947. Otherwise, the entire issue becomes biased against the Nagas. What did the Nagas want before Independence? Did the Nagas want a separate country or did they want to join India at that time? What was promised to the Nagas at the time of Independence? Was the promise made to them Nagas kept or were they cheated? Unless we understand and accept history, we cannot do justice in the present. 2. Did the government interlocutor with the Nagas, R.N. Ravi, change the Framework Agreement signed with NSCN (IM) in 2015? This is being accused by NSCN (IM) and it has released both versions of the agreement in the public domain, asking the Indian government to remove Ravi as the interlocutor. NSCN (IM) is now talking with IB officials in Delhi, bypassing Ravi. Does it mean that the agreement was actually tampered with after it was signed? If it was, it is a very serious mistake.

I visited Nagaland when Hornbill culture festival was going on in 2018. In this festival from whole Nagaland all tribes will come n show their cultural diversity. It was really nice to see their craft n rich culture. These people are peace loving. Their language is also very soft, very less loud words. They really deserve peace ✌️. I hope this matter will get settled in peaceful manner.

Founding Editor of ThePrint, Shekhar Gupta’s, Cut The Clutter episode 555 attempt to de-clutter Nagaland Crisis: how Muivah’s ambition at 86 runs into ethnicity, geography, demography & history falls short of comprehensive historical fact check.
The episode nonetheless lives up to the intended de-clutter topic i.e., Nagaland Crisis, seemingly not pulling the entire Naga historical political wagon, hard enough.
The Editor, out of the sheer entangled complexities, cherry picks, skips crucial chronology in his episode of the Naga Political issue by heavily banking his baseline argument on a retired IAS officer, Khekiye K. Sema’s opinion piece over Possible fall out after settlement based on framework agreement and remain oblivious to other hundreds of articles, journals written by Nagas from Nagaland (if that his his cherry picked intention) about the genesis of the Naga People’s struggle of Independence.
Shekhar Gupta, a respectable seasoned journalist of India, skips three key elements to his observation.
First, he skips the germination of Naga Political ambition to become a sovereign nation state from the very point in history of WW1, when the Naga Labour Crops from Northeast frontier, well before the formation of arbitrary Northeast states primarily, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur, was followed by the Naga Club Memo to Simon Commission 1929, a historical landmark. Secondly Naga People’s declaration of Independence Day on August 14, 1947 as a free Nation. And thirdly, the Naga People’s ambition of her right to self-determination and self-govern saw the first Naga people’s Plebiscite of 16 May 1951 where 99.9% of the Nagas wanted independence from India.
Any attempt to reach the crux of the complex Naga political struggle without taking into consideration these crucial 3 historic events, would only suggest oversimplification, putting the card before the horse.
ThePrint Editor in all his good intention, unfortunately showed lack of research which is unlike him. Shekhar Gupta with his wealth of knowledge about the Northeast frontier, as it was called, is arguably someone who knows the political landscape of Northeast, especially the Naga complex politics, from his years of journalistic experience, which certainly isn’t impossible to de-clutter for a man of his stature. Therefore whether he speaks carelessly or accurately, whether biased or unbiased, his words commands journalistic truth and moves opinions.
Therefore, Shekhar Gupta’s approach on this episode in viewing the Naga Political struggle only from the prism of “Muivah’s ambitions”, followed by “Tangkhul cadres in NSCN IM”, followed by “Ukhrul” as the powerhouse of NSCN IM, and the community he speaks of at length in relation with “Nagaland political history”, and not “Naga Political history” without even a hint about other Naga tribes of Manipur, except quoting Tamenglong in footnote, clearly is a deliberate hamartia to NAGA POLITCIAL HISTORY!
The Editor’s de-cluttering of the vexed Naga Political issue in conjunction with the Framework Agreement, fails to talk about how and why Nagaland State was created in the first place. What 16 points agreement entailed for the Nagas in the larger political brinkmanship, ignoring scores of details of the 1989 fallout and massacre of NSCN IM by NSCN K. It would only have balanced his argument of 1975, Shillong Accord. Conveniently ignoring the decisive 1997 ceasefire agreement development between the Centre and NSCN IM, the fine details of the August 3, 2015 Framework Agreement and as to why the Governor cum interlocutor R N Ravi doctored the original Framwork Agreement signed in the presence of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and PM Narendra Modi, how Mr Gupta deliberately ignored the Lt. Isak Chishi Swu, Chairman of NSCN IM from the Sumi tribe of Nagaland, and how the mediators became the negotiators and so forth.
But those crucial points were all skipped peevishly in this Cut The Clutter episode 555 and unlike Shakher Gupta, unfashionably picked on one Naga community as the sole villain out of his 29 odd minutes commentary, reducing Naga Political struggle of over 74 years into Nagaland state Political issue. When he precisely knows that, that isn’t exactly the underlying issue.
Funny how the Tangkhuls of Manipur are the only ones unhappy with this report. The people of Nagaland seem to be in agreement with it.
Agreed that Shekhar Gupta has skipped some of the information as described by you.
I would still not be dismissive of this article as he has lent representation to the struggle of Naga communities.
He has been in the North-East but one can easily discern that it takes few days to a week to accumulate such information even it were his team helping out with this.
Also some of points will only bring Negative attention. And forgive me I know as a Proud NE brother to another you could care less but this case is as sensitive as it gets.
As sad as the death of Sushant Singh Rajput was the mainstream media has dedicated hours repeating the same facts over and over with some channels being blind to major developments in the North-East regions.

The author is unbiased and completely blunt on writing the situation as it is and doesn't try to justify any actions of either sides rather just portrays the information.

Pretty much on point with almost everything that has been articulated in this video. There is a HUGE difference between Nagas of Nagaland and Nagas of Manipur. A greater "Nagalim" is never going to happen because other states are not going to give up their territorial land. The Nagas of Nagaland accepted the Indian constitution in 63 followed by a few underground groups in 75 (Shillong Accord). The IM group is the only one who opposed this decision and called us "traitors" for wanting peace and security in the land. I don't ever want to see the day where a "Socialist" system runs the affairs of Naga people because there are plenty of examples of Communist/Socialist led countries where things have gone to hell and you add the Naga tribes into this ideology and it's going to create chaos. The IM group basically talks on behalf of Thangkul tribe and I'm just stating the facts and the Naga Hoho does not represent the tribes of the state of NAGALAND. It's a complicated situation but we uncomplicate it to come to a decision that is beneficial to all, if extortion and militant activities stop then Nagaland will start to prosper but we the people also need to elect responsible leaders who will take a strong stand against these anti social activities taking place. And there needs to be a lot of reforms on the laws because times have changed so we need to invest money in the sectors that we know the Nagas of Nagaland are exceptional at and we'll real the benefits later on in the future.
For my Naga brothers and sisters, do not blindly follow the sentiments of some groups because they say "freedom" for they have their own agendas.
What exactly are Nagas gonna do with this new independent country? If its formed, they will be surrounded by enemy states of india and myanmar, with china more than eager to crush their throats.

Just because I say that I am against the NSCN doesn't mean I support everything the Naga Govt does, I believe we need a strong leader to govern the state. That being said I don't want anyone from IM at the helm of government I would rather be able to vote and choose who represents Nagaland. I know Manipur has its own problems when it comes to metieis and Nagas but that's the issue of Manipur not Nagaland. All these parts of Manipur could have been a part of Nagaland if people would have just stopped fighting and choose peace but I know the situation then was different and it maybe easy for me to say now but the people of Nagaland certainly went against everything and made a Nagaland despite those obstacles. Tangkhuls from different villages speak in Standard Tangkhul (not Meiteilon). Meiteilon is the standard language of Manipur state.
There is a lot of misinformation, biased and anti-NSCN (IM) in this episode.
Tankhuls speak meiteilon to communicate with other minor tribes in the hills as that is the common language in their state. I was also confused but it is true. No doubt they speak tankhul language with themselves.

I am from Bangalore i have visited Kohima in Nagaland and the naga people are very kind and hard-working. I don't think most of them want independence from India but they need more attentiom from central govt. Nagaland is in very bad condition compared to other northeast states.
I was born in UP, raised in Rajasthan, studied in Karnataka and Delhi, settled in Mumbai. My best friend is from Kalimpong, my roommate was from Manipur. So the title was enough to get me to this video. Now to put my brain in alert mode to appreciate this feature.

Its a matter of "Who actually wants to consider themselves Indian vs Not wants to consider themselves Indian". Better India keep & invest fund in letter ones. Like Tamil Nadu,Jammu, Ladakh, kerala, Sikkim, Meghalaya etc.

The ugly truth is that India being a democratic country failed to understand the meaning of democracy even though the Nagas declared her independence on 14th August 1947 one day ahead of India's independence and India did not paid any heat to plebiscite of 1951 where 99.9% voted for a separate country and sent over 1 lakhs arm forces between 1950 and 1960 to burnt down over 1000 villages, killing 1000s of Civilians even though India is very much against the Chinese occupation of Tibet and xinjiang. And the NSCN with Socialist principles forgot the true meaning of socialism where the system of production are owned by the state but the wealth are distributed equally among the citizens, instead of serving the public most of the high ranking officers started to accumulate wealth for themselves which automatically lead the public to stop supporting them. I think our Naga political issue is very complex and complicated.
Very well outlined. This is a complex issue with a lot of historical baggage. Sad that personal ambitions of an individual scuttled previous peace deals and prolonged the misery of Naga people. Also striking to me was the use of targeted assassinations by Mr. Muivah to maintain his dominance; something that Prahhakaran's LTTE was adept at.
All said, Nagas are honorable people and deserve a decent life free of violence and uncertainty.

SG ...You have not done research well.There are more than 2000 cadres from POUMAI Tribe alone in NSCN & NNPG. And T.Muivah is actually a Poumai Community who had been adopted by one Tangkhul family in his childhood days according to his original Poumai village - Ngari or Reimai in Senapati District. Even the now Hebron camp was discovered-located by one Poumai Brigridar. Even the first NSCN before break up Army Chief was a Poumai, Just ask from hard core or Present officer, So you see we dont blow our own trumpet....but all practicall m logistics are done by POUMAI....do your research more not just wishful thinking blahs...blah...

2000s- Negotiations inconclusive as Dictator play delay tactics.
2010s- Another Framework Agreement signed between Dictator & GOI. Negotiations start.

Bertil Linter's book: "Travels Through Insurgent Burma" is instructive on the way the Kachins looked down upon Swu & Muivah. Politically, the rough formulation is that the IM is aligned with the BJP and the K with the Congress. And this goes back to SC Jamir's time and ouster as the CM. The NSCN (IM) is today run by Appam Muivah, who is worthy of your attention. He is T Muivah's nephew and heir apparent. The IM leaders, ensconced in Thailand, head a multi-country narcotics and gun-running racket. Narcotics is their mainstay, mainly heroin sourced from the Golden Triangle. All the prognostications over Nagalim etc are just to keep the Peace Accord moving - rather, maintaining the status quo so as to ensure a smooth passage through of their narcotics and guns. If the Government were to crack down ruthlessly on these two aspects - drugs and guns, then the rest will fall into place.

In the first place nagas never wanted to be a part of India, some places then were never covered by British India government. When nagas resisted Indian chose to use force, many nagas were killed and raped. Without the consent of nagas, we were divided into two nations and many states within India. What it started as tribal fighting for non interference and rights has emerged as mere extortionist group fighting for some sovereignty. Many were killed and tortured over decades, Indian government also has to take this responsibility for not genuinely trying to solve the naga problem. We obviously want more special provisions and autonomy even within the Indian union. Culturally and historically nagas were never Indian and Indian government has acknowledged this fact. I'm glad someone with significant influence is talking about NE brothers. The way NE and their issues are ignored by masses and mainstream media is dangerous for the unity of this land. I am from TN and living in the US. I have never heard such a good explanation of Naga problem. Seems like there will be no solution because of so many competing tribes.
Tribes are funded to put against each other. If Indians do not do that. All tribes will join hands together for a free Naga nation with their own flag and constitution.

a. If that man Rev Scott, would have never been in picture, the region would have been integrated long back. British have created much of the problems in India because of their concept of Frontier territory!!

Most of North East India had never been part of India. It was the British that included the region into British India for the sake of convenient administration, and when they left India, they just left the region to be part of Independent India. If it wasn't for them Most of NE might not have been a part of India. Princely states like Jodhpur, Guna, Hyderabad, Asom, Tripura etc were united by Iron Man of India and included in the Indian Union. Remember, Sikkim was never part of the Indian Union in 1950, it became part in 1975. Given the diverse country India is, every region have a distinct culture. Indian constitution do have a provision of granting local autonomy to Tribal areas (which is not restricted to North East). British Missionaries made job of integration of North East very tough. They were not in Sikkim, not in Ladakh, not in other Tribal areas, hence not much problem in integrating those areas!!
@@apys9582 The princely states you mentioned were all more or less part of India historically or Culturally.. Most of the NE tribal areas were discovered by the British. So you can't draw comparision there.
Those that still have some kind of insurgency problems in the NE are Meteis, Bodos or ULFAs who are not Christians, but mostly Hindus.
Nagaland is a part of India . It joined India on its own free will on Dec 1963. It does not want independence or freedom from India. It is rather surprising to ask this question.

Nagaland was administered by the British as a separate entity which means Nagaland was not part of British India. Nagaland was kept as an "excluded area' by the British before India was given independence.

What I learnt however from SG was that they did the same thing to the Nagas in Nagaland. We thought they extorted only Manipuris.
Also, another reason for your misinterpretation of my statement is ur lack of knowledge of manipur's geography n demography. Manipur has 90% hills which are reserved for the ST like Nagas n Kukis while only 35.45% of the population stay there. Remaining 75% of the population stay in the Imphal Valley which is only 10% of the land. Meitei community constitute 50% or so n we all are crammed in the valley cuz we are not ST. So when NSCN very conveniently claim its Naga's land and should be part of Nagaland, its cuz we are not even allowed to settle there. While, NSCN extorts transport into the valley. So, we the common ppl irrespective of which community we belong to are affected by their extortion n bullying n killing.
So it doesn't matter to us if NSCN Nagas are mostly from Mabipur. This group is anti-Manipur. Their ambition is to take away the land of Manipur.

Ah yes, my grandfather visited Assam back in 1921 prior to the war as emissary to her highness. I remember him recalling fond memories of the people who were savages but strangely very hospitable. The Nagas were feared and very rarely seen much less contacted. Now? I’ve had the pleasure of visiting Kohima for the Hornbill festival back in ‘08 and had an absolute bloody brilliant time. The people were warm and unbelievably friendly, drank their “single malt” lager made out of rice which was sweet, tangy and packed a punch. The roads were horrendous though the public didn’t seem to mind one bit which I found quite strange coming from activist haven of London. I was clueless about the militancy that is apparently rife in the colourful state. Sad really. The Naga people should stand against the blatant extortion imposed on them by the “Tangkhuls” who have become defacto rulers of the state.
Do you know Tangkhuls? Oh great! But didn't try to divide Nagas further. Nagas are one irrespective of man made artificial boundaries imposed on us.

1. It is very important that one should go into the history of the Nagas before 1947. Otherwise, the entire issue becomes biased against the Nagas. What did the Nagas want before Independence? Did the Nagas want a separate country or did they want to join India at that time? What was promised to the Nagas at the time of Independence? Was the promise made to them Nagas kept or were they cheated? Unless we understand and accept history, we cannot do justice in the present.
2. Did the government interlocutor with the Nagas, R.N. Ravi, change the Framework Agreement signed with NSCN (IM) in 2015? This is being accused by NSCN (IM) and it has released both versions of the agreement in the public domain, asking the Indian government to remove Ravi as the interlocutor. NSCN (IM) is now talking with IB officials in Delhi, bypassing Ravi. Does it mean that the agreement was actually tampered with after it was signed? If it was, it is a very serious mistake.
