    I was very fortunate to receive this as a gift along with my iPad. I am not a student, just a working adult with an office job. So here is my experience: after using it since December 2020, I love my ipad/magic keyboard. I use it every day, more often than my phone. I really only use my phone to take calls, but everything else is done on my ipad: emails, app browsing, watching RUclips/streaming, online shopping, etc. I’ve already noticed wear and tear on the keyboard, but I’m not really too careful with it because I watch while I eat so my fingers are a bit greasy and I still type on it. That said, the MK easily gets fingerprints and smudges all over, so not I give up on keeping it smudge free. I think if you are planning on using the ipad regularly, the MK is definitely worth it. I would not enjoy using the iPad as much without the MK. I rarely use my ipad without the MK either. I’ve also purchased an iPad Air/MK for my sister’s birthday, who is a student, so to me it is definitely worth it. My SO on the other hand does not think the ipad is worth it, but he recently got the new M1 MacBook Air, so he does everything on his laptop/phone. I have a 2012 MacBook Pro that I really only use for playing Minecraft (rarely now until the new update comes out), and I do not own a TV, so the ipad fits my lifestyle the best without having to purchase a new laptop/computer. I love being able to lay down my bed and watch on my ipad sideways lol can’t do that with a TV!

    As a heavy ipad pro user (12.9 2020 version) with the Magic Keyboard, I would say the MK has been functioning tremendously for me, and no competition at all (compare to any available brands in the market). However, from price point (in consideration of its material, and single colour option) , it would reach its best value if we can get for maximum USD 200.

    Honestly the crazy thing about it is I have used this thing more than my phone. It’s my favorite accessory. I have a DBRAND skin on my case and it truly changes how you use it so you aren’t so weary of putting it down or getting it dirty!

    Many others have had the same comments on how poorly the keyboard is looking after just a few months. Not sure if I want to keep mine even though I bought it for $199 USD. I thought the same thing....what will it look like in 2+ years? I’m very picky about any of my equipment staying in good condition, so I’m leaning towards returning it. Thanks for your honest review.

    Still expensive, almost the same price as an entry level macbook air. But this absolutely changed the way I use my ipad pro. I can remember the old days just typing on the screen all the time wherein the virtual keyboard blocks off half of the screen real estate every time it pops up. The trackpad of the magic keyboard is admittedly quite small, but I’ll choose its convenience rather than carrying another bluetooth mouse. Overall, it’s not the most perfect device to justify its price. But a mere change of how I interact and use my ipad is more than enough to keep myself contented especially in terms of daily use.

    Give the ESR Rebound Magnetic Keyboard & Trackpad case for the 12.9” iPad Pro a try. It’s 1/3 the price of the Magic keyboard and gives pretty much the same functionality with some extra features that the Magic Keyboard doesn’t have. I really like it and use it full time over the Magic Keyboard which is now back in it’s box.

      Yeah, I know what you mean. I've put mine straight into a bag, but it was in the laptop/tablet compartment, so some extra protection already. I think if you just dropped this into a bag/rucksack etc, I wouldn't feel confident that the sides and corners wouldn't scratch or get dinked when travelling around. But that aside, it's excellent.

    I received mine as a gift from my Daughter for my first iPad and it works beautifully. That said, I would have probably fully explored the alternatives first. As expected it is a nice perfectly functional, albeit somewhat expensive, accessory which works perfectly. It could certainly have been made with better materials for the price. I’m sure I will not regret having it. Still…there is something in me that struggles a bit with “caving in” to the Apple’s “ecosystem”. Pretty sure I’ll get over it though!

    Good video - thank you. I have just bought one of these and it is still inside the Amazon package that arrived 30 minutes ago. I am still smarting from the cost and I will likely not open this package until the new iPad Pro arrives next week. I have been vacillating over whether to pay this price for a week now and watching videos like yours. There are positive reasons why I want this keyboard but, the clincher for me is the direct connection; those three little pins, that mean I will not be dealing with annoying blue tooth glitches that I have experienced with other keyboards and devices over the years. BTW, I believe there is good reason for the weight of the magic keyboard. It serves to counter the turning effect of the whole contraption when the iPad is attached an inclined. Any lighter and there would be no stability at all.

    • @ProperHonestTech
      @ProperHonestTech  3 года назад

      The connection via the pins on the case is flawless to be fair. I feel like it works the way that Apple devices are supposed to work - you just click it into place, and away you go. No connecting, no faffing around in menus, just click and go. It's a great bit of kit.

    No, the 12.9 inch has not replaced a TV in my bedroom. It’s replace a 2 meter by 3 meter projection screen over my bed in the bedroom. I have it mounted in am ergonomic stand that hangs it over my head when I’m laying down, and the clarity absolutely dwarfs the projection setup, and since my wife couldn’t give a rats ass, I gave up on the projector and went straight to the device. It’s perfect for me. Only thing that could be better is a way to not have to wake up and go to work on Monday morning.

      Can only speak for my 11 inch model - the magic keyboard alone is actually a tiny bit heavier than the iPad. The iPad Pro is 471g and the magic keyboard is 601g. So combined just over 1kg. But still lighter than a MacBook Pro, so if you consider it this way, still quite light.

      @@ProperHonestTech Hi! I noticed some of your keys are different from mine. I’m in the US and got the magic keyboard for Christmas. So the backspace button, enter button, and shift button are different than yours. Mine has words for it, while yours are just the characters, so my backspace says “delete,” enter button says “return,” and shift button says “shift.” Also, your enter button has a different shape, mine is just a small rectangle, smaller than the delete/backspace button. I also noticed your tab button has the tab character while mine says “tab.” Also, my button for | \ is right next to } ], on top of the enter/return button. That is very interesting! @ProperHonestTech  3 года назад +2

      I think the price is justified, personally. It works flawlessly via the physical connection to the iPad (not Bluetooth) and feels super premium. But other items will do the same thing, almost as effectively, for less money. So I guess you have to decide if you feel the price tag is worth it.

    What has changed between iPad models that means you find screen typing more difficult on the iPad Pro ?

    • @ProperHonestTech
      @ProperHonestTech  3 года назад +1

      Nothing's changed between the models, I've always found typing directly on iPad keyboards to be tricky. I think the lack of tactile keys is what makes it more difficult, having to rely purely on muscle memory alone. I can do it, and pretty quickly, but I prefer not to.

    • @Zanton68
      @Zanton68 3 года назад

      @@ProperHonestTech Thanks for that. I want the keyboard but seems to defeat the object (benefits) of having a tablet. I suppose I could use it at my desk then take it off and put the iPad in my existing cover when I’m on the move or want to travel light.

    • @ProperHonestTech
      @ProperHonestTech  3 года назад +1

      I guess it depends how much typing you think you'll need to do with your tablet. Writing the odd email or entering web addresses, you could happily do that with the on-screen keyboard all day long. But if you're going to be using it as a computer replacement, you're definitely going to want to consider some form of external keyboard.

      I'm inclined to agree with you, certainly in it's current form. But if Apple make a mini version of the Pro form factor, do you still think they wouldn't create a scaled-down version of this?

    • @shadowios7033
      @shadowios7033 3 года назад +1

      @@ProperHonestTech I don’t think so. Mostly because the iPad mini provides a different type of appeal. It’s portable, light, and great for quickly sketching down notes. The magic keyboard would be so small, suck almost the *same* amount of battery it does from the iPad Pro with a substantially smaller battery, heavy, and thick. It wouldn’t make much sense to add it to a tablet which is advertised as thin, light, and compact.

      The magic keyboard is a good product but hardly the best peripheral money can buy, you sound like you work for Apple 🍎, many other companies have made keyboards with trackpads for the Ipad at half the price or lower that do the same functions, nothing Apple’s magic keyboard does justifies a $350.00 price tag and yes I own one.

    It seems very expensive for what it is. Samsung has done this cheaper for years, with the dex, and the galaxy book, better connectivity, micro sd, and a stylus that doesn’t need charging. I don’t know why you would use this just to watch tv. I’m sure you could get a stand much cheaper.

    • @ProperHonestTech

      I mainly use my iPads for graphic, and illustration work. It has a hard shell case, to stop bending, and textured screen protector, so wouldn’t fit this case. I use Samsung daily, with my note 20 ultra, and galaxy book at work. It’s a it more durable with metal body, and came with keyboard, and pen, also being compatible with my Bluetooth mouse. I suppose like most tools, if your going to use it in a specific way then you won’t mind the cost so much. I do wonder how much wear is needed before the hinge becomes loose, and can you use the usb c on the keyboard for input, or is it just for power?

    Its not worth for that price. I bought apple trackpad 2 and magic keyboard 2 for my ipad air 4. Coz i can even use it seperately when i buy any ipad or mac in the future. And even the trackpad is huge, amazing to use it. Both are in budget as compared to magic keyboard touch 2020. The only other con (in my opinion), is that you have to now carry a keyboard and a trackpad separately from your ipad, so you've got 3 items to pack/remember when you're moving around. Where as the keyboard case, you just fold it up and take the item with you as one.
      But... if you've found a setup that works for you, that's all that matters! Hope it continues to work well for you!

      3) cant use it while writing notes
      4) overpriced

      Thanks for watching. I can't speak for anyone's review other than my own, but the cost of this as a peripheral/extra is high, especially when compared with similar all-in-one cases. It's valid to highlight how much it costs as part of a review, and it often makes sense to get that out of the way at the beginning. But the rest of the review does also explain why I think that for many people it's worth the money.
