Those "ad breaks" are called eyecatches. They happen after commercial breaks. They're short little animations or sometimes just a still picture to let viewers know that the show is back on. Pretty much every anime has em.
Also those are rice buns. They can be filled with anything! :)
Steamed buns/Rice buns are available at almost every asian market/farmers markets (depending on where you live)

I don't know if I'm right or not... But reading the manga and watching the anime I noticed that these animations are placed when you reach the equivalent to the volume end in the manga. Is this right or was is it just coincidence? haha

And this is noticeable when the first years are acting up or even when Asahi’s anxiety takes hold of him. I think their relationship as captain and vice captain is so beautifully written, I just wish my captains were the same 🥺🥺
Fun fact: the director for haikyuu instructed Daichi and suga's voice actors to be more fatherly (for daichi) and motherly (for suga)

@@victoriabrowne sometimes the translations are a little bit off and that’s more often the case in the english dub than the english sub but even in the subtitles there are some things which aren’t translated to well because some japanese words are hard to translate to english
alsoo personally i’ve noticed that the translations can seem a lot more harsh than original and also japanese is a subtle language and very nuance based and english… well relatively speaking it isn’t
i hope that helps you understand haikyuu and anime in general better
The translation for the title seems all over the place. A more accurate translation seems to be a timid person's anxiety rather than coward.
I can definitely see that kind of error. It's not like Japanese and English are easy to translate straight.
I think she's watching it on netflix and their translation kinda bad.

@@jokerpaisa4ever well for dub, since a japanese sentence translated in english will have different syllables, they have to change it a little bit so the meaning of the sentence remains the same and that will also follow the animation of the mouth. So a little discrepancy between the sub and the dub will always be there

Ugh I love this series! I want you to be able to watch more than one episode at once but I also selfishly love your reactions to each episode 😭 also Haikyuu and you personally are really inspiring me to give volleyball a try, I don't know if anywhere local to me has a volleyball team/free play but like Shoyo has taught us, sometimes you have to create your own opportunities! 💪I also love hearing your insight into volleyball and mental health, I find it really helpful and reassuring. Yeah, although you can find steamed buns with other fillings as well. They are eating the ones with different pork fillings, but there are also other fillings like beef, red bean, etc. They can be dessert-y or savory.
Edit: Also, the curry buns are curry pork buns. Pork and curry in a fluffy steamed bun.

Those little animations in the middle of the episode are called "eyecatches" and usually there would be a commercial between them since this was originally aired on TV in Japan.

the food that they were eating is what they called a meat bun in the anime but for a more technical term in japanese is nikuman or in chinese a bao(pronounces bow) and it is a bread like food that can have various different meat or sweet fillings but this one in particular has meat(though idk which one as it wasn’t specified😅)

Anime is pretty much part of mainstream television in Japan so they have half time breaks for commercials and stuff.
I'm just gonna mention that if you can, you might want to watch this on Crunchyroll. There's gonna be a lot of game play in this and writing all over the screen and the Netflix sub will get confusing because they are all at the bottom. Just a heads up, but you don't have to.
The crunchyroll subtitles are also easier to read IMO - they have a nice black outline
Crunchy roll subs are also more accurate and easy to read. Sometimes the phrases are just kinda weird for the Netflix one
I agree but on the crunchyroll subtitles they don't translate words that they feel people should know what is meant... such as when they were referred to as "an Oni and his iron club" in the dub/Netflix sub they translate it so you know it means demon/monster and his iron club.

I also love that, as a volleyball player, you identify several technical things (for example, I thought it was only aesthetics to throw your arms back to jump).

Rolling Thunder
The food Hinata ate was steamed buns. It's called Nikuman in Japanese and made from flour dough and filled with meat and other vegetables. It's cheap and tasty! Also, there are a variety of steamed buns such as curry, pizza etc. In general, you can see them in a grocery/convenience store in Japan. But I believe you might find them in an Asian market in the US, too.

I imagine all of us watching these reaction videos who have already seen the anime are like the characters in the show who have already experienced the freak quick when they hear someone else's reaction when they see it for the first time. LoL
I'm not an athlete or involved in the sports world, but I've always admired the ability of athletes to play under so much pressure, I can't imagine how hard that must be sometimes. Glad there are people out there like you that give advice to those with that kind of anxiety, I know I would probably be a mess if I were in their shoes :)
I rewatched this show recently with my brother to prepare for the latest season, there's so much to look forward to, I'm glad you're having fun with it so far!
Here's some info before you go into the next ep.
Karasuno will be playing a non official practice match against Aoba Johsai aka Seijoh. Seijoh has a history of being a top 4, and one of the competitors of being the best team in the Miyagi Prefecture. Seijoh also includes some former teammates of Kageyama which you will also see.
In addition, 2 times a year there is a National Level tournament in Japan. Each prefecture (state) will have a preliminary tournament which chooses who can go to Nationals. (Usually bracket style of 8 to 16 teams depending on the population of the prefecture). The number of teams able to go to Nationals also varies from 1 to 3. In Miyagi, it's only 1. Therefore, if Karasuno wants to make it to the (summer) Inter High National Tournament or the (Spring) National Tournament they must win the preliminaries and become number 1 in the prefecture of Miyagi.

Tsukishima and Yamaguchi are also first years. They are standing together with Shoyo and Kageyama as their upperclassmen welcome them to the team.

Shoyo is eating a type of bun (filling is unknown but I think it's probably a meat bun). You can buy meat buns at some Asian supermarkets or Asian bread stores. Either that or you could look for a recipe and make it yourself.

The thing Hinata is eating is just a meat bun but their basically buns that’s why curry buns were mentioned :)
Also the commercials in between are just small animations bc when this is aired in Japan I am guessing there are actual commercials between the anime. The water bottles are there bc they are practicing their aims in serving, they use it to try aim to hit the bottle. There’s also some for their quick too.
For the thing you couldn’t read it just showed their positions for the practice match, I can’t see it clearly but it was:
Back row (left to right): WS: Tanaka, MB: Hinata, WS: Daichi
Front row (left to right): S: Kageyama, MB: Tsukishima, WS: Ennoshita
And Subs: Sugawara (Setter), Yamaguchi (MB), Kinoshita (WS), Narita (MB) I think, although it may be wrong... I went with their relative positions 😅
The little commercial break thing is used for when the episodes are out on something with ads in the between. So the first little thing will play then there would be an ad, and then the second one would play and the show would continue.
