It’s no revelation that we all feel unworthy. I spent a lot of time listening to people tell me “how to stop feeling unworthy”. Gabor Maté is the first person I listened to who actually made me understand “how it happened in the first place”-that it came from childhood trauma. The human condition is essentially the result of childhood trauma. And aside from the more obvious & awful things that traumatize children, simple things do too. As children, we obediently bury our authenticity-our true selves-in many ways, in favor of love & approval. So, inevitably we grow up feeling less than, incomplete. And unless you approach your healing from that point, you could end up spinning your wheels like I did. Remember: nothing is missing in you. Whatever you think is missing, it’s right where you left it.

Yes well said. I LOVE Gabor Mate and his work. I have been on this journey of self discovery, self forgiveness , change in order to heal my body and my life. Like louise hays book. You can heal your life...its all about self love. Self love is the foundation to all.

Dr. Gabor Matè made the correlation that children left unattended, bereft of a loving environment have almost 100% propensity chances to have post trauma disorders.
Many go on to have compulsive addictive behavior. The lack of engaged contact or a sense of belonging underscored by a disregard for one's child is a recipe for that child to grow without a sense of security, lacks awareness of boundaries and does not employ a compass of relationship to inner self or outer self. This promotes a personality feeling unworthy and in fight or flight anxiety.
These parent(s) were ill equipped to raise children let alone understand that nurturing a baby during the important first few years initiates a child's self-actualization process of themself and of their world.
Your life work is changing lives by living your truth. ♡

The way Tara speaks about self, self - hatred and shame. She has the insight that all our minds are searching for. Sat through this and made me realise that I am my own worst enemy and when you're trapped in your mind, your own body often will amplify the negativity based on pre-existing notions that you're less than, often due to trauma and external factors that were never your fault, or within your control.

Being with unpleasant feelings helped me to get in touch with the part that I didn’t feel/touch for a long time cuz we kept moving on/ignoring that part……somehow when I decided not to let go that unpleasant feeling, it felt like I was hugging that “part” of me also. It is like reintegrating a part of myself into a more whole being.

Wow, yes. The answer is in the feeling of , for example , love. Spend more time experiencing the love you have , like in the example of the mom, for your child. You can say for sure you know you love your daughter . So start there, where you are certain you can trust yourself . Then try and “(re)act , make decisions, respond, from there and expand to other areas. I think we spend all our time overthink and reexperiencing the uncertain, painful, experiences and memories than the feelings we enjoy, moments of comfort. It sort of makes sense, like duh of course I’m negative etc what do o expect I spent must of my life dwelling there. I actually don’t have much experience with joyful good memories and periods of strengths and Behaviors I’m really proud of. So yes, it’s true. Whoever commented by asking” do you do esteem able acts” I really really deeply get that line now . I want to like myself more so I should try spending more time with myself in those moments as oppose to others

Thank you so much for sharing this conversation with us all. A great antidote to the all pervasive notion of 'not good enough', which is relentlessly promoted by the society we live in, and in particular by the advertisers who try to dictate how we 'should' be. You're right, Tara, if we were happy within ourselves the economy would not only crash, it would be obsolete! (incidentally, the word 'economy' means 'making the most out of the least', exactly the opposite of how it's generally being perceived!)

Recently, I've thought of the idea of praying for answers, praying to the holy spirit to come thought me, praying for healing of my stuckness. I am creativity and capable of helping others- i have run into this thought of who can i ask for help since a child. I never knew where to go. I used to read books to help. Now, i call on a higher power, something within- to guide me. I'm not my truest self- i have been covered by experience. My mother was my best friend, i helped her and she helped me. I feel unsure without her, unguided. And yet, I grew up being her guide all along.

I practiced putting my hand on my heart.... and feeling trusting self faith..at first it felt like i was lying to myself... I began to weep profusely and by the end of my private emotional outpouring, I realized I was weeping from joy... because it felt like I befriended myself that this circle within me had been unbroken and healing could now begin ...that this hatred of myself didn't have to be.

I spent years in my birth family in fact being rejected when I was being my genuine self. I often heard things like, "what is wrong with you?" "Why are you crying? Stop crying!" "You're being dramatic!" and was ridiculed for my interests and passions. It is proving very, very difficult for me to truly let go of those judgments and risk being myself, and to risk showing my true self to others (for fear of rejection). There's a level on which I can function very well, but deeper? Nope. That's still a struggle.

Love hearing this, but also wrestling with the paradox of being true to self vs. attaining and maintaining security. These needs rarely align. Achieving the latter requires energy, belief, and motivation - often only sustained by sublimation or even a kind of annihilation of the “true self.” This is especially so for those less powerful. I am watching my young adult daughters go through this now. Preserving the true inner self while establishing the public self in a competitive world is a wrenching task for the young psyche. There is no guidebook or college course. Only when we reach our senior years do we get a full view of the casualties. The accounting can be soul wrenching. I believe it would help if there were honored rituals for this reckoning. If those inevitable sacrifices of self were valued.

My life is fear based which was triggered from a long-lived trauma. I am isolated but I want to be connected. I’m 62 with RA, lived a very active life until 2012. Now what do I Do? How can I become connected with like-minded people again? I try to be consistent with exercise but going to a gym does not give me life altering experiences with people. I could be more connected with others but the opportunities I have become involved in have not manifested. What could I be seeking for? I’m kind & full of love. I want to ask her about people on the spectrum. Our sense of unworthiness comes from the perception of neurotypicals thinking we are unworthy and making us feel this way our whole lives (discriminating against us and deeming us unlovable, not giving us the same benefit of doubt or opportunities as they give others). Even when we believe in ourselves, society fights against us constantly.

People need to learn to be kind to others so we can accept ourselves. It does take a village.

I have been doing a lot of research into entities. They take your own voice and tell you that you are awful. Basically, not all our thoughts are our own:

    • @rv6029
      @rv6029 5 лет назад +4

No. I’m not “hearing voices.” Lol. Geesh. People on RUclips can be so rude. I was referring to negative self talk. Your own thoughts that can be too harsh. Such as, “I am not good enough” or whatever. We live in a multi dimensional reality and all kinds of beings are interacting with us. Some the size of nano particles.
Our own body is made of 50 trillion living cells, with their own jobs to do. So we are not alone even in the physical sense. Not to mention how our moods are connected to our gut...having the right bacteria in our stomach can affect how we feel. Just sayin...😀 Then there are beings outside our physical light spectrum that are also a part of the picture. The in the 4th dimension etc. (we are more then just our physical body.)
The study I have been doing gives me another perspective on the mind, our body and our thoughts. I don’t think you would be interested in reading about it. Have a good day.

I had no sense of being for a very long time. Finally one day everything just clicked and I got it. Keep searching and asking that question, not that the answer is outside of you, but it will eventually be revealed to you. The key is, to add action to the search. Don’t just read a book or listen to audio, do the exercises they recommend. Everyone’s journey is different. I thought I would never find myself!

Tara Brach quote highlights from this video: “My deepest suffering, the core of it, was a sense of not enough-and when it was really bad, real self-aversion.”
“The trance of unworthiness: how much our being is trapped in a sense of falling short.”
“How do we begin to stop the war against ourselves? The wake up is usually some form of suffering.”
“Feel that loving awareness in you, and just get to know that as really the place you can trust.”
“If we want to try to trust or accept our ego self, it's not going to work because the ego self is unreliable, out of control, will cause trouble, is striving, is afraid. So, building a true sense of trust comes from contacting the deeper parts of our being.”
“Very often the pathway to acceptance comes with being able to start pausing when we feel we’re caught in ‘something's wrong with me, I'm unworthy.’”
“When you get caught in that trance of unworthiness, when you feel the suffering, pause.”
“The shift is that we actually move from the unworthy self to that kind of compassionate presence that is witnessing and with the unworthy self. That shift is the movement towards freedom.”
“In our contemporary culture, especially in the West, there are very few natural ways of belonging that help to reassure us of what you might call our ‘basic goodness’, our feeling connected and a part of something larger. And, that exacerbates the sense of I'm afraid, I'm wrong, I'm bad, I'm not okay, I'm deficient.”
“We're not invited towards contentment … We're not invited to relax and say this moment's enough. That would stop the economy in its tracks.”
“I more quickly recognize, ‘Oh okay, I'm caught in the beliefs and feelings that have to do with unworthy self.’ There's less lag time, and I don't believe it as much. It's like the feelings and the thoughts are there, but the sense of who I am beyond the self that I'm judging are much more alive and accessible. There is a beingness here-a loving heart, an awareness-that isn't so identified with the unworthy self.”
“What we're accepting is the life that's right here … We're embracing the lived experience. What actually happens as we do that is the sense of separate self actually dissolves. The freedom that we experience on the other end of truly accepting the life that's here is we discover that we're way beyond any story we had of ourselves.”
“As long as we're identified as an egoic self, as a separate self, there's always going to be a feeling of deficiency … If we're identified as a separate self, we’re identified with a fragment of what we are. And, there's some wisdom in us that actually recognizes that this isn't the truth of who I am.”
“We're all doing this project of embracing the life that's right here-its pleasantness, its unpleasantness-and the discovering that we're beyond any story we might have ever told about ourselves.”
    RAIN Technique:
“When we get caught in the trance of unworthiness, we can say, ‘Okay, just pause’ … RAIN is a process of detangling the trance, and it really comes down to a mindful awareness with kindness.”
Recognize: Recognize what's going on? Okay, all the thoughts and feelings of unworthiness right here.
Allow: We just allow it to be there. We don't try to get away from what's going on. We deepen the pause. We just let it all be there.
Investigate: Begin to investigate a bit. Investigate with an intimate attention or investigate with kindness because we just bring a gentle yet interested attention to what's going on. This is where we start loosening the grip to free us from the trance. You have to get under the thoughts, under the storyline. Investigating is connecting with what's going on in the body but with kindness.
Not Identified: It sounds like a dry term, but it's actually liberation. When I’m not identified with that unworthy self, I'm free to inhabit my wholeness. I'm free to inhabit the loving awareness that's really here but been clouded over.

Stop all your bad habits immediately and think about every word you utter to yourself and every action you do. Build a base of 'enrichenment'

What a beautiful conversation between two beautiful souls. I am sure if we would all have healthy self-love and self-worth our world would be in a completely different state. Capitalism, the exploitation of nature, hate, wars... all these things can only exist if people don't really love themselves. A capitalistic society grounds itself in the lack of self-worth. If people would have healthy self-worth, they wouldn't consume all these subsititutes which will never fill the holes.
