👍 Good video. You covered everything including the overflow valve on the expansion tank (if over-filled). You are correct that there is no engine drain valve on the 2AR-FE or air bleeder. Also, I agree! DO NOT USE WATER to flush or you will dilute the 50/50 premix. ONE THING to BE CAREFUL: The cap on the expansion tank usually feels snug but requires one more quarter turn to close properly and allow the system to pressurize properly. I could be wrong, but I think near the end of the video at the 10:57 mark, it could use an extra 1/4 turn. On mine, the tab on the cap should line up with the direction of the overflow release nib on the expansion tank. I believe that the OEM cap has the pressure release feature built into it that releases to that nib. CANADIANS: Toyota OEM antifreeze is 55/45 mix for the harsher winters. Canadian Toyota Part # C0009-00120. Aftermarket premix antifreeze is usually just 50/50.
Thanks for the information! I looked everywhere for information on an engine drain valve but could find nothing. I was surprised how easy it was to fill and burp the cooling system on the RAV4! I assumed everyone knew about tightening the cap on the overflow tank because the cap is pretty loose if one doesn't tighten the cap so that the tab on the cap falls into position on the tank. Thanks for watching!
So that you don't trap any air in the system start the car and let it warm up with the cap OFF of the coolant reservoir. When the engine gets warm keep squeezing the radiator hoses to burp air out of the system. Always check the level every day for a few days to see if the level goes down from coolant replacing any air pockets.
Gracias desde Chile, me sirvió mucho, estaba buscando la tapa del radiador 😮, pero parece que solo se hace el relleno y cambio desde el depósito. GRACIAS
You better bleed the air properly one more time. Thermostat will take time to open. I did for my 2013 RAV4 today and it took 35min to open the thermostat. Leave the expansion cap open keep the engine running on idle and be patience to open the thermostat with expansion cap open. Let all the air bleed out as you want to keep the car for longer periods.

Yeah in the manual it shows the full mark right under the seam
Doing this in my wife’s 18 rav4. Thank you brother.
I've set up a play list for my RAV4 videos. Thanks for watching!
I’m going to do mine tomorrow! Thank you!!
@@mzbritt808 How did it go?
@@davidgpo I did it!!! Your video helped me so much! Now I feel like I can do anything lol. Thank you
@@mzbritt808 That's great! Thanks for keeping me up to date!
So I guess I missed how you get 5/16" hose attached. Very nicely done video.
Just slips on the port. Thanks for watching!
Excellent video. Could you please make another video for the 2018 Toyota RAV4 hybrid about how to replace the electric motor coolant?
Sorry, I don't have access to a hybrid model. It may be similar to the '07 Prius. I have a video on changing the hybrid cooler on that.
Hola, consulta:
¿Lo pusiste en marcha con el embudo puesto, sin cerrar el deposito con su tapa?

I was looking for the radiator cap too. Anything to save a Peso! Thanks for watching!

Must use OEM coolant? or zerex asian fine?
I know that the Toyota coolant is formulated for their head gaskets. I don't know enough about after market coolants to recommend a replacement.
@@davidgpo where did you read this head gasket thing?
@@sugarytv It's commonly known that dissimilar metals corrode when in contact. You have aluminum heads and block with a steel gasket.
@@davidgpo appreciate the response, it made me more relieved in paying $40 per gallon for OEM coolant
Thanks for the video. And ouchie on your thumb nail. I also had the same dead nail a year ago. 😅
I was measuring the clearance between the door and the "B" pillar and determined it to be one half thumb! ;-) Thanks for watching!
What is the inner diameter of the hose you attached to the drain cock?
5/16"
@@davidgoldberg Thanks
Coolant level adjustment procedure: let the vehicle cool down overnight. In the morning fill the expansion to the LOW mark level.
What size hose?
The drain hose?
@@davidgpo He said 5/16" I.D.
On my 2017 I used a 11/32" hose onto the rad drain. I think a 3/8" will also work.
Is it just 1 gallon that you had to use for refill ?
1-1/2 gallons. Thanks for watching.
On my 2017 the manual says it holds 6.8 Litres, 1.8 U.S. liquid gallons.
Get two gallons
Changing coolant at 22,000 miles little premature as Toyota long life pink is supposed to be good for 100,000 Mi.
You should go by mileage and by time. I never go more than 5 years.
You must not go anywhere...😊
