- Wow, I can't believe we're on London Vlog #8 already! I've officially survived (thrived) a month in London! Over the weekend I had so much fun exploring Shoreditch with one of my RUclips subscribers. In this vlog I also share a few updates about my gym routine, master's program AND (man you guys are persistent) my Peace Corps long distance relationship.

Hi there you went an antique shop. What you need are charity shops which what Americans call thrift shops. So need to find shops like British heart foundation, Salvation Army, Sue Ryder ,Traid etc. I am sure that there are some in Woolwich. However better to go Lewisham because Woolwich and Greeenwich are more expensive.

Loving the videos, i hope things are smoother for you soon! At least you will have some great advice for people on unexpected things that go wrong moving here in the future. I’ve been out of school since Dec 2014 and I’m really nervous about starting my Masters for the same reason! That anxiety about how long it’s been is real!! (Especially for me with a 10yr old! Getting through the first round was hard enough with a crumb snatcher 😂) Thank you for talking about what that’s like going back to school after getting your undergrad and being in the work field for some time. Definitely helps to build my confidence that I can maneuver through the madness as well!
I do wish you much success!...I went through the Masters program (here in the States)...It's a lot of work, but so rewarding when it's done...I too have anxiety when giving presentations; however I've noticed the anxiety has reduced as I've gotten older...It's also helps to be well prepared and speaking about a subject that truly interests you..

Vintage shops are always going to charge a premium. You want to go to charity shops, you can get items for a pound or two but you have to hunt through the stock - which sounds like what you enjoy, so they'll be perfect for you.

I use to be nervous giving presentations but i realized the more prepared i was an the more i praticed the less nervous im sure youll be fine..its also so cool that you are meeti g people from all over the world an making connections..you need to go yo charity shops not the vintage shops..charity shops are our versions of thrift shops
Paige I can totally relate to finding a gym that's a good fit!!! It took me a long time but now I can stay there for hours and get into a good workout flow. Loving the vlogs and that big hair!!!!😉

I feel your pain with school. I took a break for 5 years 🤦🏽♀️ went back and I barely know what I’m doing. Somehow last semester I managed to get on the dean’s list through all the stress. So I know you’ll do great 👍🏽

I hope you find that special someone. It does exist honestly it does. You think you're taking your life one way and bam next thing you know someone comes and takes you another. It's a crazy feeling but once you have it, everything will fall into place completely unplanned. And that's the best way. Just go with the flow. Love watching your posts and your positive outlook on everything.
I’m sure you’ll do well in your studies....attitude is everything. It’s been awhile since graduate school for me, but, I was always told to keep writing on the same subject, as it provides more opportunity to delve into the subject. As for your presentation anxiety, breathe through it. Wooosahhhh🙏🏽

Wow . just subbed last month so Im glad I didnt see comments about a previous relationship. Im looking at the map behind you and youre really not too far from him...but let God and you never know what may happen for you two. BTW I know what you mean about the thrift stores. Here in Chicago you know we have tons of them and I know you miss those 69 cent days at the Salvation Army. I when I went to London last year I was told to go to Shoreditch (looking at your vlog thats not the place to search) by a former Londoner and CHicagoan who is an avid thrifter by the name of youtuber and instagram fashionista @Iamdionnedean. If you are on Facebook or Instagram, sign up to your local community events pages and there they announce thrift special events where you dig in bins and then weigh the stuff you want to buy. Car boot sales are also good for really inexpensive treasures. Again your local Facebook pages /Instagram will announce car boot sales, typically they start in spring.
First of all, LOVE the big hair. It so suits you. Secondly, I would love for you to have been in a relationship if that what you wanted but I am so glad you get to experience this new journey un-tethered; and I am not sure if I am conveying that correctly. Like a little sister of mine I would want her to be able to experience all London and the UK had to offer. So while I want the WORLD to love and be in love, there are times for everything. You might have better luck going to a charity shop, they have anything and everything with a few hidden gems. I'm sure if you Google charity shops near me you'll find lots!

Hey Paige, Love your videos! I think its worth looking at "The Vaults, Waterloo" They have graffiti walls and is such a nice place to take photos, I literally packed a bag with different outfits and took loads of pictures for the gram aha.

You're looking for charity shops or second hand shops some of the big ones are Oxfam, Barnardos, British Heart Foundation, Age UK etc. You want to visit the ones in posh / expensive areas to find the best stuff i.e.designer . It depends on the manager as to whether they mark up stuff extortionately. You can find designer elsewhere but there is a higher concentration in the posher areas.
I’ve been in Canada for many years now, I’m from London and love watching your videos, it’s like being home, so thank you 💕
As for charity shops (thrift stores) FARA, Sue Ryder, The Princess Alice Hospice charity shops, Barnardos, Oxfam, The British Heart Foundation (I found a pair of YSL shoes there, never worn £10!!!)
Portobello Market/Notting hill - found amazing things there!!! Camden Market is good too ... definitely a must visit but I prefer Portobello Market! (Check out Notting hill Carnival in August!!! - obviously not a good day for Market though lol
RSPCA, Age Concern UK, Cancer Research UK, Salvation Army ... There’s sooooo many more, in the UK so perhaps google ... a lot of them have social media websites. Oh and don’t forget to check out Car Boot sales!
I too love thrift stores and have found some nice things in Goodwill etc but new or nearly new best of the best (a lot of time designer) are definitely FARA, Sue Ryder, Princess Alice and again Portobello Market!

Hey Paige ! We don’t really have cheap American thrift stores here but I would check out on Facebook or online the vintage kilo sales . It’s normally a monthly event and there’s a few around London , you go and you pay by the kilo! Its a lot more like the Salvation Army kinda thing but they make it an event over here . Kinda sucks but believe me those sales are worth it :) Defo check it out .
Visit Dark Sugars on Brick Lane. It's a black owned coffee/chocolate shop😁

I was the same way when giving presentations. I would over think a lot of the time.
They probably make it more of a discount for the US market so that we can afford it, with the exchange rate and everything. If the items price-wise were equivalent to what they are in the UK the prices would be crazy High, a bit how you are finding them now since now living in England. For your vintage clothing you might want to check out Portobello Road Market for good cheap stuff.

Not sure if it’s the same in London but in birmingham, the three main charity shops are barnardos, british heart foundation and cancer research. barnardos is definitely the cheapest, most items are around £1.99, whereas BHF and CR usually start at around £4.99! 😋 also, you’ll probably have to do research methods in your masters degree, I had to buy a book called ‘Social Research Methods’ by A. Bryman from Amazon for £30 for my degree and my boyfriend who is doing his masters has found it really useful too! Maybe see if your library has a copy ❤️

Sounds like you might be looking for a charity shop! Most high streets have one and if you visit ones in slightly nicer areas I think they might have some nicers items at affordable prices.
Major tip for essay writing - listen to philosophical arguments and lectures ( I recommend the courses on Audible). They will help you formulate arguments and give wight to your conclusions, it also makes you sound well read, well spoken, and well researched. People are almost always impressed with them. Also if you're able to site the chicago/turabian method of citation you can include related thoughts and remarks in them that let your personality shine through without detracting from the professionalism of your essays. Many highly regarded published essays included footnotes along the lines of "the author of this quote/stat is proof that if you keep shouting nonsense eventually a truth will come out" or something much ruder. I know these things sound simple and like they aren't to do with your course of study but they took me from a c/b essay writer to a consistent a/a+ in multiple areas of study.

Check to see if they have writing coaches. I've used a writing coach for all of my papers I've written for grad school. I can send a coach my draft and they give me notes on how to improve it and I've always gotten A's on my papers because of it. I'm not that confident in my writing, but they've definitely helped me a lot.

The key to presentations is write out word for word what you will say and PRACTICE.
Try and make one sentence flow in the other. It'll be easier to remember that way :
The dog is red.
Red is actually a great color.
Its a great color because blah blah blah.
