15 HI, mid-handicap player here: I was fitted to a set of these (5-P) with KBS C-Taper regular stiffness shafts. Going from my cheaper starter irons to these was night and day. The 7I consistently hit 10-20 yards further than the previous iron. All of the clubs saw roughly the same level of increased length on ideals shots. I have a natural, but very slight, fade bias in my swing and going to these you can immediately see the draw bias in these. So for me, someone who really doesn't have a slice problem, the draw bias WAS an adjustment point i had to make. They really do like to go left. Which is honestly a good thing for most people buying these clubs. I know these are marketed as being above average loft, but i really haven't seen much of a difference. Maybe a degree or two more loft, but pretty negligent in my own experience. With great quality shafts like i got, the snap off the face and the penetrating launch really help shots carry. I could consistently hit these with near ideal spin on each club. Even missed toe shots still manage to stay straight. There is a feel to the miss-hits though, so there's a level of positive feedback in the club. So even though the clubs have a significant level of forgiveness, yielding consistency, they still give that physical and audible feedback when you miss. Although there is a decent amount of bulk to these, they still feel fine and consistent on various lies. After playing a round with these, i can say that they really are consistent and for someone like myself who has a pretty handsy swing, you can manage off-balance, raised, and lowered swings from bad lies. I found that these deliver consistent distances as well. I did, as mentioned above, gain yardage on all of the clubs, but they remain consistent in hitting as far as you think they should go. Like if you think you're hitting on from 110 with your pitch, it will get consistently GO 110. I really do recommend these to others trying to improve their game. They're marketed for those mid handicap players looking for GI irons. Solid recommend from me.
I got fitted for these irons on Friday. Yes, they are loud, but not deafening. Feel off the face was fast and results were what i had sought. Duly ordered them, 5-AW and 4 hybrid which is so easy to hit.
I would love to see a video that groups the dozens of irons you have tested to understand how they compare. Would love to know really how much the difference in forgiveness compares with these sorts of irons vs something like the new 245 irons.
Hey man…Question 4 u: I was hitting the new qi10 HL irons and I had the max lite regular shaft in it. Standard length and lie. I had face tape on it also. I hit out of the middle sweet spot perfect like 10 balls in row with a 180 avg 7 iron. My clubhead speed is decent. I was like I’m sold. Hitting it right out of the center perfectly…so pure of hits. The fitter told me I needed a stiff shaft because of my swing speed. He said I would get more control. I tried the stiff and was toeing it and having mishits. Does it matter what flex it is if I am striping it? I figured the most consistent yardage and flight will be the most consistent strike. And I don’t care if it’s regular, senior, stiff/x-stiff…I care how I hit the ball. This was @ local Golf Galaxy
Hi Patrick, to answer it properly, even though you may have a faster swing speed, swing speed in itself isn't the most important thing, how you load the shaft is far more important. So if you have a fast swing speed but don't offend the shaft massively then what you see as regular flex would be fine. The best way would be to test your swing using the Mizuno Swing DNA Shaft Analyser to tell exactly what shaft bend profile you require rather than trusting anyones guess work. Initially without knowing I would absolutely say go with what clearly works, I'd only go away from such if there are massive swing changes on the horizon or that it is clear that the classic 'a broken clock is right twice a day' situation was happening... Although that's very coincidental 👍🏻👍🏻
I went for a fitting for these last Friday and even with a senior shaft fitted and 2 deg weaker(I’m 71) I really struggled to get any real playable height, I thought it was very poor for the mid to low speed player. I then tested the Callaway Smoke HL irons ( not the HL Fast) and found them to be really really good, high and far.
These are totally distance orientated irons which work well in some golfers hands at certain swing speeds but I fear that too many golfers will be for into these because of their distance properties rather than their functional control properties 👍🏻
Did you fit the Qi HL clubs or just the standard? They have a high loft version as well aimed for your general audience. And this is by no means me attempting to sway you back to TM, because I have an Ai Smoke driver in my bag right now 😂
Hi I would love to see a review comparing These and other main brand irons in this category where forgiveness and overall size are compared. Therefore allowing us to see which is the smallest but very forgiving iron.
Oh my gosh THANK YOU. I was urged toward these during my fitting. While I hit them pretty well I will say they were super ugly to me and the SOUND...lord it sounded like my driver. Other reviews I have seen have talked about the sound being decent and I just dont know where they are getting that from. I ended up going with the JPX 923's
Superb review the most comprehensive on uk tube. I play Steath 2 very nice but agree that the descent is an issue averaging 37 degrees where as the T 350 it was 46 degrees. Will be testing Callaway, Ping, Srixon, Cleveland and hopefully Mizuno too. The other problem in this category is the strong lofts on the long irons make things harder and I’m a decent striker of a ball although a senior 15 handicapper so might go for more loft such as 23-25 degrees on the 5 iron. Yes I have hybrids but I like long irons for certain conditions.
Try out the Cobra Forged Tec X with a KBS TGI shaft. Super forgiving, long as they are strong lofts, but they have a big chunk of tungsten low down, so I got really good height and therefore descent angles. Pretty traditional looking too.
I wouldn't worry about changing any time soon. There may be small changes and small incremental benefits but not to the extent that a Stealth user will probably visually see. If wait another model and see if the change is then big enough to justify the upgrade cost 👍🏻
I just got my set of Qi irons and noticed the hosel/neck of the 5-8 irons is different and jagged/edged. The 9 and wedges have a smooth hosel/neck. Take the 8 and 9 iron out and swing them in the air. You'll hear a very audible difference between the 2. It's almost like there's a lot more drag in the air with the 5-8 irons, than the 9 and wedges. Anyone else notice this? I noticed it immediately like something was wrong or loose...
Had the qiHL irons for a season now. I must say…they are going left a bit too much for my liking. Are there a few irons that you could mention or review in comparison with the QiHL that has very very minimal offset and is forgiving and flight is neutral to a hair fade biased ? I try to hit baby cuts with these and they go right and still draw. Mizuno HLs? Or 923 pro or something?
Hi Patrick, I'd really like to see your delivery numbers... Offset makes very minimal difference to face angle at impact, actually for most it makes no difference whatsoever. So there is something about either the make up of the irons that cause your face to be too closed relative to path at impact or its the swing dynamics that is causing it. Before you look to spend more money on clubs, if you could get your delivery dynamics at impact (measured from a GCQuad) then I'll be happy to help 👍🏻
Being honest, testing on the same day, I would be surprised if I saw a big difference, although I could be wrong and as I'm not shaft sensitive I probably won't see the gains that a usual golfer will see during a custom fitting between these, especially if there was an incorrect shaft in one of them 👍
I'd say that I prefer the Qi from being a normal Iron shape where the HD is part hybrid design. I prefer the HD from it's functionality and forgiveness point of view over the Qi, again that's due to its part hybrid design 👍
Some golfers hate hybrids so by using a 4 iron at 18 degrees it's like playing a driving iron and sometimes an option off the tee. Still I would always suggest the patience in learning how to use hybrids as they are an absolute win win for golfers that can use them 👍🏻
Especially in those who need forgiveness and loft. I would argue that the majority of those using a 4 iron are for ego boost not for good golf...in that demographic.@@AskGolfNut
Great question. Normally absolutely but I'm not shaft sensitive (done multiple videos on this topic previously) and so not affected by shaft change. This is fortunate as most media samples come in whatever shaft they are in. I'm in no way saying shaft doesn't matter, it matters massively for the vast majority of people, it's just for me and the way I don't offend the shaft in transition that I'm not affected by bend profile change 👍🏻
Lets see how loud the club is , swings , i barely hear it ,Says it needs more work on quieting down . Guess my sloppy play makes more sound than good players cause my 20 yr old rac os irons seem louder 🤷🏼♂️ lol
Mainly due to length of time to get a true understanding of how clubs work. The problem with amateur golfers testing equipment is that unless we already know in detail what their normal launch and ball dynamic characteristics are like, it's near on impossible to say how it works against an unknown. Also a review is there to show how a design works or not and with the unpatterned variance of amateur golfers, in a such a small dataset, it's extremely pot luck as to the results. An amateur will see differences in flight and consistency with a larger dataset of use where a pro can tell very quickly with the much reduced variance and patterned misses, if a golf clubs marketing claim are valid or not. Basically it's all done with the golfer and the viewer in mind so that they wouldn't either get the wrong impression of a club or so they don't have to watch a full hour video of also watching the amateur having to be custom fitted for shaft etc first to reduce the variance 👍🏻👍🏻
